  • The patch antennas with an array of pins with excellent radiation characteristics are investigated for several substrate thicknesses. The patch length of a pin array patch antenna for the maximum suppression of radiation in the horizontal plane decreases as the substrate thickness increases. The radiation in the horizontal plane of a pin array patch antenna is very small compared to that of a conventional patch antenna. The increase of forward radiation and the decrease of backward radiation of a pin array patch are obtained compared to those of a conventional patch antenna. The half-power beamwidth of E-plane radiation pattern of a pin array patch antenna is narrow compared to that of a conventional patch antenna so that the directivity is improved.

  • We propose a design method of a Rotman lens for curved array antenna applicable to conformal array. In this paper, design equations are derived to obtain an array curve, transmission line lengths of a Rotman lens in conjunction with a curved array antenna, and the phase error of a Rotman lens based on these design equations is minimized through the beam curve optimization procedure and the refocusing procedure. Rotman lenses designed by the proposed design equations and design procedures still maintain 3 focal points, can feed a convex or concave array antenna with circular curve, parabolic curve, V-shaped curve, etc as well as a straight line array antenna, and have minimal phase error.

  • A wide-band E-plane notch phased array antenna having bandwidths of 3:1 and a scan volume of $\pm$ 45 is designed considering the active element pattern (AEP) with analysis of the full structure of E-plane notch phased array antenna. Using the numerical E-plane waveguide simulator as an infinite linear array in the broadside angle, the active reflection coefficient (ARC) of the unit element is optimized in the design frequency range. To evaluate the convergence of the AEP, the simulation of full array as changing the number array is investigated, and the minimum numbers of array that have characteristics similar to the AEP of an infinite array are determined.

  • This paper proposes an optimum array configuration to improve null steering time for mobile controlled reception pattern antenna (CRPA) systems. The proposed array consists of a single reference element at the center and nine auxiliary elements arranged in a circular array. The array radius and the vertical positions of the center element are optimized using a genetic algorithm in conjunction with a constrained least-mean-square algorithm. The results demonstrate that the proposed array is suitable for mobile CRPA systems without significant side nulls in satellite directions.

  • As a countermeasure against the threat of jamming which can disrupt operation of the Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers, various kinds of technique to estimate the Direction-Of-Arrivals (DOAs) of incoming jamming signals have been widely studied, and among them, the MUltiple SIgnal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm is known to provide very high resolution. However, since the previous studies regarding the MUSIC algorithm does not consider the orientation of each antenna element of antenna arrays, there is a possibility that DOA estimation performance degrades in the case of a misaligned antenna array whose antenna elements are not oriented along the same direction. As an effort to solve this problem, there exists a previous work which presents an MUSIC-based method for DOA estimation. However, the error between the real and measured values of each antenna orientation is not taken into consideration. Therefore, in this paper, the effect of the aforementioned error on the DOA estimation performance in the case of a misaligned antenna array is analyzed by simulations.

  • In this paper, an antenna has been proposed for the operation of mobile devices such as Zigbee. The presented rectenna operates at ISM (Industrial Scientific Medical) band of 2.45 GHz and consists of $2{\times}2$ array patch antenna and Villard voltage double rectifier circuit for high conversion efficiency. $2{\times}2$ array patch antenna is fabricated in FR4 substrate having thickness of 1.6mm and dielectric constant of 4.7. The proposed $2{\times}2$ array patch antenna resonates at 2.56GHz with return loss of 38.36dB, VSWR of 1.0244, and its impedance is matched to $50{\Omega}$. The fabricated rectenna has maximum conversion efficiency of 59.8% at an input power lever of 15dBm and load resistance of $500{\Omega}$.

  • GNSS receiver which uses the weak satellite signal is very vulnerable to the intentional jamming or non-intentional electromagnetic interference. One of the best method to overcome this disadvantage is to use an adaptive array antenna which has the capability of beamforming or nulling to the certain direction. In this paper, the performance of spatial adaptive null pattern control algorithm of 5 element array antenna is analyzed. A control algorithm which is designed in the 5 element array antenna is OPM(Output Power Minimization) which is eliminating the correlation characteristics between a reference antenna and the others. This algorithm can be applied effectively to the satellite navigation's CRPA because the satellite direction is not considered and GNSS signal power is below the thermal noise. The feature of the OPM algorithm is analyzed and the performance is compared with other null pattern control algorithm.

  • A beam steering system of X-band 2-D phased array antenna for radar application is developed. The beam steering system consists of real-time command generator, beam steering unit, control PCB of array module and power supply. It plays a role of beam steering and on-line check of phased array antenna. The performance of beam steering system is verified with pulse timing of current control in phase shifters and measurement of far-field of phased array antenna. The developed beam steering system offers basic technology to develop full-scale beam steering system of multi-function radar.
