In this study, we fabricated and characterized a nanostructured surface based on a plastic injection molding with a local mold heating (LMH) system. A metal mold core with a closed packed nano convex array (CVA) was achieved by integrated engineering procedures: (1) master template fabrication by anodic aluminum oxidation (AAO), (2) nickel electroforming (NE) process, and (3) post-processing by precision machining. The nickel mold core was utilized to replicate a surface with a closed packed nano concave-array (CCA) based on injection molding using cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) as a plastic material. In particular, an LMH system was introduced to enhance transcription quality of the nano structures by delaying solidification of molten polymer near the surface of the mold core.

Au/oxide/n-InP Schottky diodes were fabricated from heteroepitaxial InP layers grown on GaAs substrates by the metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) method from a new combination of source materials: ethyldimethylindium (EDMIn) and tertiarybutylphosphine (TBP). Anodic oxidation technique by using a solution of 10 g of ammonium pentaborate in 100 cc of ethylene glycole as the electrolyte was used to deposit a thin oxide layer. The barrier heights determined from three different techniques, current-voltage (I-V) measurements at room temperature and in the temperature range of 273 K - 373 K, and room temperature capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements are in good agreement, 0.7 - 0.9 eV which is considerably high as compared to the 0.45 - 0.55 eV in Au/n-InP Schottky diode without a Passivation layer. The ideality factors of 1.1 - 1.3 of the Schottky diodes were also determined from the I-Y characteristics. Deep level transient spectroscopy (DLTS) studies revealed only one shallow electron state at 92.6 meV below the bottom of the conduction band and no deep state in the heteroepitaxial InP layers grown from EDMIn and TBP.

This article reports for the first time on the lateral growth of PEO (plasma electrolytic oxidation) films on Al1050 alloy by the application of anodic pulse current in an alkaline electrolyte. Generation of microarcs was observed at the edges initially and then moved towards the central region with PEO treatment time. Disc type PEO film islands with about $20{\mu}m$ diameter were formed first and they grew laterally by the formation of new disc type PEO films at the edge of pre-formed PEO islands. The PEO film islands were found to be interconnected completely and form a continuous PEO film when generation of small size microarcs are terminated at the central part of the specimen, resulting in very smooth surface with low surface roughness less than $1{\mu}m$ of $R_a$. Further PEO treatment after the complete interconnection of PEO films islands showed local thickening of PEO films by vertical growth. It is concluded that very smooth PEO film surface can be obtained by lateral growth mechanism rather than vertical growth of them.

Electrocatalytic activity of palladium for hydrogen oxidation and reduction was studied using AC impedance method. The system under study was arranged in electrolytic mode consisting of Pd electrode under study, Pt counter electrode and Nafion electrolyte between them. Two types of Pd electrodes were used - carbon-supported Pd (Pd/C) and Pd foil electrode. Pd/C anode contacting pure hydrogen showed a steady decrease of charge transfer resistance with the increase of anodic overpotential, which is an opposite trend to that found with Pd foil anode. But Pd foil cathode also exhibited a decrease of the resistance with the increase of cathodic overpotential. The relationship between imposition of overpotential and subsequent change of the charge transfer resistance is determined by the ratio of the rate of faradaic process to the rate of mass transportation; if mass transfer limitation holds, increase of overpotential accompanies the increase of charge transfer resistance. Regardless of the physical type of Pd electrode, the anode contacting hydrogen/oxygen gas mixture did not reveal any independent arc originated from local anodic oxygen reduction.
Porous Ti implant samples were fabricated by the sintering of spherical Ti powders in a high vacuum furnace. To increase their surface area and biocompatibility, anodic oxidation and a hydrothermal treatment were then applied. Electrolytes in a mixture of glycerophosphate and calcium acetate were used for the anodizing treatment. The resulting oxide layer was found to have precipitated in the phase form of anatase $TiO_2$ and nano-scaled hydroxyapatite on the porous Ti implant surface. The porous Ti implant can be modified via an anodic oxidation method and a hydrothermal treatment for the enhancement of the bioactivity, and current multi-surface treatments can be applied for use in a dental implant system.
This paper addresses effects of nanoscale structures on structural colors of micropatterned transparent substrate by light diffraction. Structural colors is widely investigated because they present colors without any chemical pigments. Typically structural colors is presented by diffraction of light on a micropatterned surface or by multiple interference of light on a surface containing a periodic or quasi-periodic nano-structures. In this paper, each structural colors induced by quasi-periodic nano-structures, periodic micro-structures, and nano/micro dual structures is measured in order to investigate effects of nanoscale and microscale structures on structural colors in the transparent substrate. Using pre-fabricated pattern mold and hot-embossing process, nanoscale and microscale structures are replicated on the transparent PMMA(Poly methyl methacrylate) substrate. Nanoscale and microscale pattern molds are prepared by anodic oxidation process of aluminum sheet and by reactive ion etching process of silicon wafer, respectively. Structural colors are captured by digital camera, and their optical transmittance spectrum are measured by UV/visible spectrometer. From experimental results, we found that nano-structures provide monotonic colors by multiple interference, and micro-structures induce iridescent colors by diffraction of light. Structural colors is permanent and unchangeable, thus it can be used in various application field such as security, color filter and so on.

Anodic titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotubes are very attractive materials for gas sensors due to its large surface to volume ratios. The most widely known method for fabrication of TiO2 nanotubes is anodic oxidation of metallic Ti foil. Since the remaining Ti substrate is a metallic conductor, TiO2 nanotube arrays on Ti are not appropriate for gas sensor applications. Detachment of the TiO2 nanotube arrays from the Ti Substrate or the formation of electrodes onto the TiO2 nanotube arrays have been used to demonstrate gas sensors based on TiO2 nanotubes. But the sensitivity was much lower than those of TiO2 gas sensors based on conventional TiO2 nanoparticle films. In this study, Ti thin films were deposited onto a SiO2/Si substrate by electron beam evaporation. Samples were anodized in ethylene glycol solution and ammonium fluoride (NH4F) with 0.1wt%, 0.2wt%, 0.3wt% and potentials ranging from 30 to 60V respectively. After anodization, the samples were annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ in air for 1 hours, leading to porous TiO2 films with TiO2 nanotubes. With changing temperature and CO concentration, gas sensor performance of the TiO2 nanotube gas sensors were measured, demonstrating the potential advantages of the porous TiO2 films for gas sensor applications. The details on the fabrication and gas sensing performance of TiO2 nanotube sensors will be presented.
Statement of problem. Nano-scale calcium-phosphate coating on the anodizing titanium surface using ion beam-assisted deposition (IBAD) has been recently introduced to improve the early osseointegration. However, not much is known about their surface characteristics that have influence on tissue-implant interaction. Purpose. This study was aimed to investigate microtopography, surface roughness, surface composition, and wettability of the titanium surface modified by the anodic oxidation and calcium phosphate coating using IBAD. Material and methods. Commercially pure titanium disks were used as substrates. The experiment was composed of four groups. Group MA surfaces represented machined surface. Group AN was anodized surface. Group CaP/AN was anodic oxidized and calcium phosphate coated surfaces. Group SLA surfaces were sandblasted and acid etched surfaces. The prepared titanium discs were examined as follows. The surface morphology of the discs was examined using SEM. The surface roughness was measured by a confocal laser scanning microscope. Phase components were analyzed using thin-film x-ray diffraction. Wettability analyses were performed by contact angle measurement with distilled water, formamide, bromonaphtalene and surface free energy calculation. Results. (1) The four groups showed specific microtopography respectively. Anodized and calcium phosphate coated specimens showed multiple micropores and tiny homogeneously distributed crystalline particles. (2) The order of surface roughness values were, from the lowest to the highest, machined group, anodized group, anodized and calcium phosphate deposited group, and sandblasted and acid etched group. (3) Anodized and calcium phosphate deposited group was found to have titanium and titanium anatase oxides and exhibited calcium phosphorous crystalline structures. (4) Surface wettability was increased in the order of calcium phosphate deposited group, machined group, anodized group, sandblasted and acid etched group. Conclusion. After ion beam-assisted deposition on anodized titanium, the microporous structure remained on the surface and many small calcium phosphorous crystals were formed on the porous surface. Nanoscale calcium phosphorous deposition induced roughness on the microporous surface but hydrophobicity was increased.
A study was carried out on the elelctrochemical characteristics of chemically modified electrodes (CMEs) by cyclic voltammetry. Fabrication of CMEs was made by coating with mixed valence (mv) inorganic-metal polymeric films on the glassy carbon electrode surface by potential cycling. Anodic oxidation behavior of methanol and L-ascorbic acid was studied by using CMEs working electrode. Deposition of films such as mv ruthenium oxo/ruthenium cyanide film (mv Ru-O/CN-Ru), mv ruthenium oxo/ferrocyanide film (mv Ru-O/$Fe(CN)_6$), and mv ruthenium oxo/ruthenium cyanide/Rhodium film (mv Ru-O/CN-Ru/Rh) was obtained to coat by scan rate of 50 mV/sec within the specified potential range (-0.5V ~ +1.2V). Film thickness was controlled by the repeat of the potential cycling. Anodic oxidation behavior of methanol was as follow. Calibration graph by using mv Ru-O/CN-Ru film showed linearly from 10 mM to 80 mM MeOH with slope factor of $-7.552{\mu}A/cm^2$. Although slope factor by using mv Ru-O/$Fe(CN)_6$ film was $-5.13{\mu}A/cm^2$, yet linear range of calibration graph could be extended from 10 mM to 100 mM MeOH. Anodic oxidation behavior of L-ascorbic acid was studied by mv Ru-O/CN-Ru film on the glassy carbon electrode and the glassy carbon electrode with Rh film, Glassy carbon electrode modified with Ru polymeric film was showed better sensitivity than the Rh-glassy carbon modified electrode (mv Ru-O/CN-Ru/Rh). Calibration graph was linear from 0.1 mM to 5 mM L-ascorbic acid by using glassy carbon electrode modified with Ru polymeric film. Solpe factor and relative coefficient are $-84.78{\mu}A/mM$ and 0.998, respectively.
In this study we investigated the electrocatalytic oxidation of saccharose on conductive polymer- Nickel oxide modified graphite electrodes based on the ability of anionic surfactants to form micelles in aqueous media. This NiO modified electrode showed higher electrocatalytic activity than Ni rode electrode in electrocatalytic oxidation of saccharose. The anodic peak currents show linear dependency with the square root of scan rate. This behavior is the characteristic of a diffusion controlled process. Under the CA regime the reaction followed a Cottrellian behavior and the diffusion coefficient of saccharose was found in agreement with the values obtained from CV measurements.
