Parameters affecting the seismic response of buildings under bi-directional excitation

  • The present paper investigates the influence of the orientation of the ground-motion reference axes, the seismic incident angle and the seismic intensity level on the inelastic response of asymmetric reinforced concrete buildings. A single storey asymmetric building is analyzed by nonlinear dynamic analyses under twenty bi-directional ground motions. The analyses are performed for many angles of incidence and four seismic intensity levels. Moreover three different pairs of the horizontal accelerograms corresponding to the input seismic motion are considered: a) the recorded accelerograms, b) the corresponding uncorrelated accelerograms, and c) the completely correlated accelerograms. The nonlinear response is evaluated by the overall structural damage index. The results of this study demonstrate that the inelastic seismic response depends on the orientation of the ground-motion reference axes, since the three individual pairs of accelerograms corresponding to the same ground motion (recorded, uncorrelated and completely correlated) can cause different structural damage level for the same incident angle. Furthermore, the use of the recorded accelerograms as seismic input does not always lead to the critical case of study. It is also shown that there is not a particular seismic incident angle or range of angles that leads to the maximum values of damage index regardless of the seismic intensity level or the ground-motion reference axes.

소구경 탄자 연발사격 시 콘크리트 관입깊이 오차 상쇄 실험 연구 (Experimental Study of Error Canceling on the Piercing Depth of Concrete by Single Shot and Barrage of Small Caliber Bullets)

  • Major influence factors for piercing depth of concrete against small caliber bullet are target's property such as compression strength of concrete and bullet's property such as the velocity and weight of it. In particular about the bullet's property, velocity and incidence angle could be controlled by specific position or distance between targets and shooter, but the angle of yaw of bullet dose not. Because the the angle of yaw of bullet causes lower piercing force of bullet, some errors on piercing depth of concrete could be appeared by live fire test for the evaluation of protective performance. Therefore, we have checked the error canceling effect on the piercing depth of concrete by single shot and barrage of small caiber bullets. As a result, we identified that the error of piercing depth by the angle of yaw of bullet could be cancelled by barrage.

Mean wind loads on T-shaped angle transmission towers

  • Compared with traditional transmission towers, T-shaped angle towers have long cross-arms and are specially used for ultrahigh-voltage direct-current (UHVDC) transmission. Nevertheless, the wind loads of T-shaped towers have not received much attention in previous studies. Consequently, a series of wind tunnel tests on the T-shaped towers featuring cross-arms of varying lengths were conducted using the high-frequency force balance (HFFB) technique. The test results reveal that the T-shaped tower's drag coefficients nearly remain constant at different testing velocities, demonstrating that Reynolds number effects are negligible in the test range of 1.26 × 104-2.30 × 104. The maximum values of the longitudinal base shear and torsion of the T-shaped tower are reached at 15° and 25° of wind incidence, respectively. In the yaw angle, the crosswind coefficients of the tower body are quite small, whereas those of the cross-arms are significant, and as a result, the assumption in some load codes (such as ASCE 74-2020, IEC 60826-2017 and EN 50341-1:2012) that the resultant force direction is the same as the wind direction may be inappropriate for the cross-arm situation. The fitting formulas for the wind load-distribution factors of the tower body and cross-arms are developed, respectively, which would greatly facilitate the determination of the wind loads on T-shaped angle towers.

Wind load characteristics and effects of 1000kV UHV substation frame based on HFFB

  • This study presents a comprehensive investigation of wind load characteristics and wind-induced responses associated with different wind incidence angles and terrains of the 1000kV UHV substation frame. High-frequency force balance (HFFB) force measurement wind tunnel tests are conducted on the overall and segment models to characterize wind loads characteristics such as the aerodynamic force coefficients and the shape factors. The most unfavorable wind incidence angles and terrains for aerodynamic characteristics are obtained. A finite element model of the substation frame is built to determine the wind-induced response characters based on the aerodynamic force coefficients and bottom forces of the segment models. The mean and root mean square (RMS) values of displacement responses at different heights of the frame structure are compared and analyzed. The influence of wind incidence angle and terrains on wind-induced responses is also examined. The displacement responses in terms of the crest factor method are subsequently transformed into dynamic response factors. The recommended values of dynamic response factors at four typical heights have been proposed to provide a reference for the wind resistance design of such structures.

현수교 PWS 및 CFRC 행어로프의 내풍안정성 실험 평가 (Aerodynamic Stability Assessment of PWS and CFRC Hanger Ropes for Suspension Bridge by Experiments)

  • 이 연구에서는 현수교 PWS 및 CFRC 행어로프의 바람에 의한 내풍안정성 평가을 위한 풍동실험을 수행하였다. 풍동실험결과, PE관으로 피복된 PWS 케이블은 단일 케이블에서 와류진동이 발생하고 복수 케이블에서는 중심간격이 $3\sim6D$일때 웨이크갤로핑이 발생하였다. 진동이 발생하지 않는 복수 케이블에서도 풍향각이 달라지면 웨이크갤로핑이나 웨이크플러터가 발생함을 알 수 있었다. CFRC 케이블은 케이블 중심간격 및 풍향각에 관계없이 PWS 케이블에 비해 안정된 내풍성능을 보였다.

  • Excessive motion of the ship in rough sea would affect body's fatigue, cognitive ability, motion sickness, and the proficiency of activity. Among them symptoms of motion sickness are similar to fatigue and nausea. Motion sickness causes sudden degradations of ability to perform tasks in physical and psychological aspects, and causes delays or failure in mental activity, and also takes a significant amount of time recovering. In this study, questionnaire for MSI(Motion Sickness Incidence) survey was taken for the students aboard the training ship of Kaya to the open sea far from land. Motion sickness analysis was performed as comparing the results of questionnaire based on sea state, incident angle, economical speed, and location in the ship.

원추형 입사에서 다층 유전체 격자구조의 공진 산란특성 (Resonance Scattering Characteristics of Multi-layered Dielectric Gratings under Conical Incidence)

  • 정확한 모드전송선로 이론 (MTLT)을 적용하여 원추형 광 입사에서 공진 회절격자의 특성을 조사하였다. 원추형 구성에서 공진 회절과 관련된 모드 벡터가 전형적이 구조의 회절격자와 관련된 것보다 입사각에 따라 작게 변한다는 것을 보여주었다. 더욱이, 소멸하는 회절파가 공진 효과를 담당하는 누설 모드를 구동함에 따라, 원추형 장착은 기존 회절격자보다 더 큰 각도 허용 오차를 회절격자에 부여함을 보였다. 이에 기초하여, 수치 계산을 통하여 원추형 입사에서 발견된 스펙트럼을 사용하여, 원추형 및 클래식 구성에서 공진 회절격자의 각도-스펙트럼과 파장-스펙트럼 성능을 정량화하였다. 이러한 결과는 효율적이고 물리적으로 희소한 공진 회절격자를 요구하는 다양한 응용 분야에서 유용할 것이다.

입사각에 따른 흡음재의 반사 계수 측정 방법론 및 오차에 대한 고찰 (Measurement of Reflection Coefficient of Sound Absorbent Material with Respect to Angle of Incidence and Its Associated Errors)

  • The reflection coefficient of a material at oblique incidence is measured in a free field. The sound pressure distributions are measured at discrete points on two measurement lines and then decomposed into plane wave components by using spatial Fourier transform. The inciedent and reflected plane wave components are obtained from a set of "decomposition equations" of which uses the plane wave propagation theory. Numerical simulations and experiments have been performed to see the effect of finite size of measurement area. To reduce this effect, a window fuction has been performed to see the effects of finite size of mesurement area. To reduce this effect, a window function has been proposed and its effect on the measurement of sound absorbing material property has been studied as well. The reflection coefficient obtained by this method is compared with those obtained from other methods; 2-microphone method in a duct and an expirical equation of which determines the characteristic impedance .rho.c and propagation constant k of a material from flow resistance information.formation.

Reflection of plane waves from the boundary of a thermo-magneto-electroelastic solid half space

  • The theory of generalized thermo-magneto-electroelasticity is employed to obtain the plane wave solutions in an unbounded, homogeneous and transversely isotropic medium. Reflection phenomena of plane waves is considered at a stress free and thermally insulated surface. For incidence of a plane wave, the expressions of reflection coefficients and energy ratios for reflected waves are derived. To explore the characteristics of reflection coefficients and energy ratios, a quantitative example is set up. The half-space of the thermo-magneto-electroelastic medium is assumed to be made out of lithium niobate. The dependence of reflection coefficients and energy ratios on the angle of incidence is illustrated graphically for different values of electric, magnetic and thermal parameters.

스마트 무인기 TR-E2S1 형상 풍동시험 결과 (Wind Tunnel Test of Smart Un-manned Aerial Vehicle(SUAV) for TR-E2S1 Configuration)

  • To improve the aerodynamic effciency of TR-E2, a new configuration so called TR-E2Sl was introduced. TR-2251 is composed of different wing airfoil section and T-tail shape compared with TR-E2. Wind tunnel test for TR-EBS1 had been performed by changing the incidence angles of wing and deflection angles of control surfaces such as elevator and rudder. Also the on/off effect of ventral fin attached underneath of AFT fuselage was tested. Test result showed that variations of wing incidence angle did not cause any severe differences in aerodynamic characteristics. Longitudinal and directional characteristics of TR-E2S1 show stable for the pitch and yaw motions. However, the lateral stability of TR-E2S1 is not stable for a certain control surface deflection.
