  • The emergence of the new audiences floating across multimedia platforms and engaging in TV production and distribution have forced producers and broadcasters to think of not only the fragmented distribution of their content but also the development of a new format beyond the frame of traditional TV production. A Korean entertainment TV show My Little Television combining the form of live webcasting and traditional TV show reflects such a trend. Because of the distinct format, My Little Television carries out a unique strategy in managing the two screens - Internet and TV. The dualistic production requires all players to understand not only online subculture and communication styles and methods, but also implicit and explicit rules of traditional TV production. Through text and visual image analysis on the show, this study discusses how MLT negotiates with the original Internet text, the producers' paratext, and the supertext of the national TV network in the context of the transitory screen culture.

  • Smart TV manufacturers have constructed automatic Smart TV execution environment for reducing cost of Smart TV testing. However, the conventional test methods still require high cost because of manual test script written by testers. Test scripts manully written have less reusability, and then less reusable scripts cannot be used for new TV models. In this paper, we propose constructing reusable test models for Smart TV and present a model-based Smart TV test script generation method using the modes. And we apply the method to NetCast Smart TV to confirm the effectiveness of enhancing reusability.

  • With the emergence of digital TV broadcasting, various channels are provided to a TV audience. But it is getting hard for the audience to find his or her preferred TV programs due to the huge number of TV channels. In order to mitigate the difficulty, TV broadcasting companies provide an electronic program guide (EPG), which is a digital guide to scheduled broadcast TV programs. However, it results in the information overload problem and the time-consuming problem since the number of TV channels and programs is gradually on the increase. In this paper, we design and develop a channel filtering system, which recommends a small number of channels by filtering TV channels based on the watching pattern of the TV audience. The channel filtering system does not require the replacement or upgrade of existing TV or set-top box. In addition, it increases usability by skipping the channels that broadcast the audience's non-preferred TV programs while the TV audience presses the channel up/down button.
