Evolution of the Tropical Response to Periodic Extratropical Thermal Forcing

  • This study examines the temporal evolution of the extratropically forced tropical response in an idealized aquaplanet model under equinox condition. We apply a surface thermal forcing in the northern extratropics that oscillates periodically in time. It is shown that tropical precipitation is unaltered by sufficiently high-frequency extratropical forcing. This sensitivity to the extratropical forcing periodicity arises from the critical time required for sea surface temperature (SST) adjustment. Low-frequency extratropical forcing grants sufficient time for atmospheric transient eddies to diffuse moist static energy to perturb the midlatitude SSTs outside the forcing region, as demonstrated by a one-dimensional energy balance model with a fixed diffusivity. As the transient eddies weaken in the subtropics, a further equatorward advection is accomplished by the Hadley circulation. The essential role of Hadley cell advection in connecting the subtropical signal to the equatorial region is supported by an idealized thermodynamical-advective model. Associated with the SST changes in the tropics is a meridional shift of the intertropical convergence zone. Since the time needed for SST adjustment increases with increasing mixed layer depth, the critical forcing period at which the extratropical forcing can affect the tropics scales linearly with the mixed layer depth. Our results highlight the important role of decadal-and-longer extratropical climate variability in shaping the tropical climate system. We also raise the possibility that the transient behavior of a tropical response forced by extratropical variability may be strongly dependent on cloud radiative effects.

전통보자기 기법을 응용한 배자 디자인 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on Developing Women's Vest Designs through the Application of Traditional Bojaki Technique)

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop waist coat designs that can be worn in the present day by researching design techniques and traditional waist coat forms shown on Korean patchworks called 'Jokakbo', which was commonly used in our traditional culture. By selecting patchwork as the primary motive in particular. The Bojaki, also known as deungguhli or baeguhli(背巨里), gives off a natural and vibrant color sensation. A new design that could be practically worn with modern clothing was developed by sufficiently reflecting this color sensation as well as the aesthetic quality of its geometric shape. On the basis of theoretical consideration of traditional cloth and vest, total of 7 points were designed and produced. These works contain diverse application of the traditional Bojaki and vest. The design of the Bojaki grants rhythmic sense to the side where diverse colors and formative patterns shown on the cloth can be seen as monotonous. The entire side opening of the traditional waistcoat can cover multiple sizes. Depending on the movement, the front and back naturally spreads. The vest can also be worn in layers or used as a cotton quilt depending on the season. And after minimal design alterations, it will be possible to wear the vest with diverse modern clothing due to its straight line and form.

  • A party to a contract is bound to perform its contractual duties. But outside events may make performance impossible, physically or legally. In such a situation a party may wish to plead "force majeure" as an excuse for failure to perform. The laws of most countries have provisions which dealt with force majeure. These provisions, however, vary from country to country and may not meet the parties' requirement in international contracts. Therefore, parties to international contracts are frequently in need of contract clauses on force majeure. There are many force majeure clauses in standard forms or individually negotiated. The ICC has drawn up provisions which aim at providing assistance for parties when they are making contracts. The force majeure clause grants relief from contractual sanctions and includes provisions for suspension and termination of contract. The purpose of this study is to examine "ICC Force Majeure Clause 2003" in the international sales contract. For this purpose, firstly this study deals with the major contents of the ICC Force Majeure Clause 1985 and 2003. Secondly this study considers the related provisions under CISG, PICC, PECL and the force majeure clause in Model International Sale Contract. Thirdly this study compares ICC Force Majeure Clause 2003 with the relative provisions under CISG, PICC, PECL and the force majeure clause in Model International Sale Contract. It should be noted that the parties often need to adapt the content of this clause so as to take account of the particular circumstances of the individual contract. This paper contributes to help the parties to a contract to draft the meaningful "Force Majeure Clause" containing more precise and elaborate provisions.

  • 사물인터넷 기술의 빠른 발전과 코로나19 팬데믹 이후 가정 내 활동의 증가로 인해 사용자들의 스마트 홈에 대한 수요가 크게 증가하였다. 스마트 홈 시장의 규모가 매해 빠르게 증가하고 사용자의 수가 늘어남에 따라 개인정보보호 및 각종 보안 문제에 대한 중요성도 함께 커지고 있다. 현재는 필요에 따라 한시적으로 다른 사용자들에게 스마트 홈 소유자 권한을 부여하고 시스템에 접근하도록 한다. 그러나 부여된 권한에 대한 관리가 제대로 이뤄지지 않을 경우 쉽게 악의적인 공격자의 접근을 허용할 수 있다. 또한, 스마트 홈 디바이스 및 센서를 통해 수집된 개인정보를 이용한 2차 피해의 발생 가능성에 대한 예방도 필요하다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 사용자의 편의성을 감소시키지 않으면서 스마트 홈 시스템에 대한 무분별한 접근을 방지하기 위해 접근 권한을 스마트 홈 디바이스의 기능 및 종류에 따라 세분화하여 설계하고 사용자 개인 디바이스를 활용한 토큰 기반 사용자 접근제어 기법을 제안한다.

조선 태종대 관복제정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Settlement of Official Uniform under the Reign of King Taejong in the Early Joseon)

  • In the early Joseon when royal authority was not still firmly established, King Taejong, or Lee Bang Won tried to make their political position guaranteed through relationships with Ming, making efforts to develop relations with the Chinese nation positively. This political orientation towards Ming by of the king Taejong was also clearly reflected in the settlement of official uniform in the early Joseon, which can be described as follows. Gaoming(誥命), Yinxin(印信) and Mianfu(冕服) granted by Ming for the first time since the foundation of Joseon suggested that the Chinese nation recognized the formal settlement of Joseon dynasty and the inauguration of King Taejong. presumedly, the grants played a critical role in the firm establishment by King Taejong of his royal authority under unstable political conditions. Under the reign of King Taejong, Joseon tried to abolish ancient regime and, instead, accept systems and institutions of Ming as it maintained smooth relations with the Chinese nation. King Taejong whose royal authority was locally deemed lack in legitimacy and morality wanted to receive the moral recognition of his reign. So the monarch tried to not only strengthen his authority, but also take in advanced culture and civilization through submissive diplomatic relations with Ming. This was a practical diplomatic strategy that was clearly discriminated from toadyism. It was a policy towards Ming, pursuing substantial national benefit. Therefore, official uniform system under the reign of King Taejong should be understood accordingly.

Melatonin Rescues Mesenchymal Stem Cells from Senescence Induced by the Uremic Toxin p-Cresol via Inhibiting mTOR-Dependent Autophagy

  • p-Cresol, found at high concentrations in the serum of chronic kidney failure patients, is known to cause cell senescence and other complications in different parts of the body. p-Cresol is thought to mediate cytotoxic effects through the induction of autophagy response. However, toxic effects of p-cresol on mesenchymal stem cells have not been elucidated. Thus, we aimed to investigate whether p-cresol induces senescence of mesenchymal stem cells, and whether melatonin can ameliorate abnormal autophagy response caused by p-cresol. We found that p-cresol concentration-dependently reduced proliferation of mesenchymal stem cells. Pretreatment with melatonin prevented pro-senescence effects of p-cresol on mesenchymal stem cells. We found that by inducing phosphorylation of Akt and activating the Akt signaling pathway, melatonin enhanced catalase activity and thereby inhibited the accumulation of reactive oxygen species induced by p-cresol in mesenchymal stem cells, ultimately preventing abnormal activation of autophagy. Furthermore, preincubation with melatonin counteracted other pro-senescence changes caused by p-cresol, such as the increase in total 5'-AMP-activated protein kinase expression and decrease in the level of phosphorylated mechanistic target of rapamycin. Ultimately, we discovered that melatonin restored the expression of senescence marker protein 30, which is normally suppressed because of the induction of the autophagy pathway in chronic kidney failure patients by p-cresol. Our findings suggest that stem cell senescence in patients with chronic kidney failure could be potentially rescued by the administration of melatonin, which grants this hormone a novel therapeutic role.

정부연구개발사업의 성과창출요인에 관한 연구: IT와 CT산업을 중심으로 (A Study on the Factors Influencing Project Performance of Government R&D Program: Focusing on IT and CT Industry)

  • 막대한 예산이 투입된 정부연구개발사업에 대한 성과창출과 관리 등에 대해서 근래에 관심이 집중되고 있다. 이 연구에서는 정부연구개발사업의 혁신 및 사업화 성과 창출 경로를 추정할 수 있는 연립방정식 모형을 설계하여 산업에 따른 성과창출의 특성을 분석하였다. 이를 위해서 KEIT 산업기술혁신사업의 성과활용현황조사 데이터를 활용하였으며, 정보통신(IT) 산업과 화학(CT) 산업을 대상으로 하였다. 이 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 모든 기업들은 정부지원금을 통해 개발된 기술을 특허를 통해 보호하고 혁신을 파급시키는 역할을 하고 있었으나, 특허를 사업화하는 것은 IT 산업에서는 중소기업, CT 산업에서는 대기업으로 나타났다. 복합산업 성격인 IT 산업의 중소기업은 기업의 자체적인 혁신노력이 추가적으로 필요한 반면에 CT 산업의 중소기업은 기술개발과 사업화 성과 향상에 있어서 협력연구 등의 지원이 효과적이었다. 이러한 결과는 정부연구 개발사업으로 창출된 성과를 향상시키기 위해서 정부 정책 및 과제 기획 시 산업별 기업별 특성에 따라 주안점을 달리 해야 한다는 것을 시사한다.

소기업의 R&D역량이 조직역량 및 R&D사업화에 미치는 영향 (The Impacts of R&D Capabilities of Small Companies on Organizational Competences and R&D Commercializing Performances)

  • 소기업의 성장과 경쟁력 강화를 위한 연구개발(R&D) 활동이 점점 중요해지고 있으며, 정부의 R&D 지원금도 증가하고 있다. 본 연구는 소기업의 R&D 성과를 제고하기 위해, 자원기반론적 관점에서 소기업의 R&D 성과에 영향을 미치는 요인과 필요한 역량을 파악하였다. 정부 R&D 지원사업에 참여하여 R&D 프로젝트를 완료한 소기업 3,636개사를 대상으로 설문 조사를 수행하였으며, 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 소기업의 기술혁신역량과 기술사업화역량은 조직 역량에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치며, 그 관계를 기업가정신이 조절하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 소기업의 R&D 역량은 R&D 사업화 성과에 직접 유의한 영향을 미치는 것이 아니라, 조직역량을 매개로 R&D성과에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구는 소기업 R&D의 성과 분석을 위한 중간 단계의 변수인 조직역량의 중요성을 포함해, 소기업 R&D 성과 측정 및 지원 정책에 대한 시사점을 제시한다.

단수 계정에 다중 권한 부여가 가능한 다중 해시값 기반의 안전한 패스워드 인증 기법 설계 (The Secure Password Authentication Method based on Multiple Hash Values that can Grant Multi-Permission to a Single Account)

  • 개인별 서비스를 위한 ID 기반 인증으로 ID가 식별정보로 활용되고, 패스워드가 사용자 인증에 사용된다. 안전한 사용자 인증을 위해 패스워드는 클라이언트에서 해시값으로 생성하여 서버에 전달되고 서버에 저장된 정보와 해시값을 비교하며 인증을 수행한다. 하지만 패스워드의 해시값은 패스워드에서 한 개라도 틀리면 전혀 다른 해시값이 생성되어 사용자 인증에 실패하여 패스워드에 의한 다양한 기능을 적용할 수 없다. 본 연구에서는 입력된 패스워드의 해시값을 허수를 포함하여 여러 개 생성하고 서버에 전송해서 인증을 수행한다. 또한 제안 기법에서는 여러 권한을 가진 사용자가 하나의 계정으로 다양한 권한을 부여받을 수 있도록 패스워드에 따라 권한을 차등적으로 부여할 수 있다. 제안 기법을 통해 허수 패스워드를 생성함으로써 엿보기 공격을 차단하고, 패스워드 기반으로 권한을 부여하므로 다양한 권한을 가진 사용자에게 편리성을 제공할 수 있다.

DEVELOPMENT OF ANIMAL CELL EXPRESSION SYSTEM WHICH CONFERS POSITION-INDEPENDENT AND ENHANCED FOREIGN GENE EXPRESSION

  • In order to develop the novel gene expression system, we introduced new control elements which could influence the foreign gene expression in animal cells. When the foreign genes are introduced into the genome of higher eukaryotic cells, the expressions from these integrated genes are often low and can vary greatly depending on the positions of the integration sites due to the complex nature of the chromatin structures (1). First we screened the various DNA sequence elements which can function as an insulator of gene expression from these position effects and can cooperate with the SV40 enhancer/promoter. Among the several DNA elements from the various sources, we identified the particular DNA element which confers the increased frequency of the positive colonies, assayed by the reporter gene from stable selections indicating significantly reduced position effects. This element also showed the several fold-increased expression level as well as the copy-number dependent expression with host cell specificity. Second we modified the transcription termination element where we introduced the specific terminator in combination with SV40 polyA signal. This modified terminator showed the increased efficiency and the level of the gene expression. By combining these two elements, we made the animal cell expression system and tested successfully for the recombinant protein productions of TGF ${\beta}$-soluble receptor, Antithrombin III, and single chain Pro-Urokinase.
