  • The bone material is a composite material consisted of collagen and mineral crystals. Also it shows transversely isotropic symmetry. So far none has shown that the components of the elasticity tensor satisfy the Voigt and Reuss bounds. To determine the effective elastic constant of bone material, the Voigt and Reuss bounds are employed and we show that the components of the elasticity tensor satisfy the Voigt and Reuss bounds. Mathematically this bounds are satisfied on two conditions only out of four conditions.

  • The elasticity of a model is considered most important. Without showing the proper elasticity any model cannot provide useful information for decision making. This paper demonstrates a macro model which can generate dynamic transport informations every 15 minutes. Without the Wardrop principles and the monotonicity assumptions for the link travel time and link volume relationship, the basic elements of this new modeling approache are composed of link density simulation, stochastic incremental route choice, departure time choice, destination choice and mode choice. The elasticity of the proposed model is examined based on elasticity equations and simulation results. Also the transferability from a mega city like Seoul to a big city like Daejon is demonstrated for the choice model. The issues centering around the dynamic relations among density(k), speed(u), and flow rate(v) are also discussed for the modeling of highly congested situations.

  • An exponentially accurate nonconforming spectral element method for elasticity systems with discontinuities in the coefficients and the flux across the interface is proposed in this paper. The method is least-squares spectral element method. The jump in the flux across the interface is incorporated (in appropriate Sobolev norm) in the functional to be minimized. The interface is resolved exactly using blending elements. The solution is obtained by the preconditioned conjugate gradient method. The numerical solution for different examples with discontinuous coefficients and non-homogeneous jump in the flux across the interface are presented to show the efficiency of the proposed method.

  • Numerical approximations to the linear elasticity are traditionally based on the finite element method. In this paper we propose a new formulation based on the cubic spline collocation method for linear elastic problem on the unit square. We present several numerical results for the eigenvalues of the matrix represented by cubic collocation method and preconditioner matrix which is preconditioned by FEM and FDM. Finally we present the numerical solution for some example equation.

  • Recently, active research has been going on to measure the elastic modulus of human soft tissue with medical ultrasound imaging systems for the purpose of diagnosing cancers or tumors which have been difficult to detect with conventional B-mode imaging techniques. In this paper, a real-time ultrasonic elasticity imaging system is implemented in software on a Pentium processor-based ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system. Soft tissue is subjected to external vibration, and the resulting tissue displacements change the phase of received echoes, which is in turn used to estimate tissue elasticity. It was confirmed from experiment with a phantom that the implemented elasticity imaging system could differentiate between soft and hard regions, where the latter is twice harder than the former, while operating at an adequate frame rate of 20 frames/s.

  • A new model of generalized thermoelasticity equations for isotropic media with temperature-dependent mechanical properties is established. The modulus of elasticity is taken as a linear function of reference temperature. The present model is described both generalizations, Lord Shulman (L-S) theory with one relaxation time and Green-Lindsay (G-L) with two relaxation times, as well as the coupled theory, instantaneously. The method of the matrix exponential, which constitutes the basis of the state space approach of modern control theory, applied to two-dimensional equations. Laplace and Fourier integral transforms are used. The resulting formulation is applied to a problem of a thick plate subject to heating on parts of the upper and lower surfaces of the plate that varies exponentially with time. Numerical results are given and illustrated graphically for the problem considered. A comparison was made with the results obtained in case of temperature-independent modulus of elasticity in each theory.

  • In this paper, Bishop theory performs longitudinal vibration analysis of Nano-beams. Its governing equation, due to integrated displacement field and more considered primarily effects compared with other theories, enjoys fully completed status, and more reliable results as well. This article aims to find how Bishop theory and Two-phase elasticity work together. In other words, whether Bishop theory will be compatible with Two-phase local/nonlocal elasticity. Hamilton's principle is employed to derive governing equation of motion, and then the 6th order of Generalized Differential Quadrature Method (GDQM) as a constructive numerical method is utilized to attain the discretized two-phase formulation. To acquire a proper verification procedure, exact solution is prepared to be compared with current results. Furthermore, the effects of key parameters on the objective are investigated.

  • This paper estimates the output and price elasticities of disaggregated industrial water in order to afford some information for improving the efficiency of government water policy. This paper uses the marginal productivity method for estimating the output and price elasticities of industrial water. The estimated output elasticity shows that the value of industrial water is much higher than the average price of industrial water and the estimated price elasticity shows that the water pricing policy is effective for controlling the demand of industrial water.

  • Using methods for the analysis of non-stationary series and error correction models, this study estimates the elasticity of employment with regard to growth rate and its variability. The authors could not find any significant evidence that elasticity has reduced during the last 25 years, which implies that the slow-down of the employment growth did not result from a reduction of the elasticity but from the GDP growth slow-down. Therefore, policy efforts to enhance the capacity of job creation should be made in a manner that can extend the long-term growth potential.

  • The grinding force generated during the grinding process causes an elastic deformation of the workpiece, grinding wheel, and machine system. Thus, the true depth of cut is always smaller than the apparent depth of cut. This is known as machining elasticity phenomenon. The machining elasticity parameter is defined as a ratio between the true depth of cut and the apparent depth of cut. It is an important factor to understand the material removal mechanism of the grinding process. To increase productivity, the value of this machining elasticity parameter must be large. Therefore, it is essential to know the characteristics of this parameter. The objective of this research is to study the effect of the major grinding conditions, such as table speed and depth of cut, on this parameter experimentally. Through this research, it is found that this parameter value is increasing when the table speed is decreasing or the depth of cut is increasing. Also, this parameter value depends on the grinding mode (up grinding, down grinding).
