산업체 근로자의 직무스트레스와 카페인 섭취의 상관성 (Relationships between job stress and caffeine intake in industrial workers)

  • 본 연구는 산업체근로자들의 직무스트레스와 카페인 섭취량을 알아보고, 직무스트레스에 따른 카페인 섭취량과의 관련성에 대해 살펴보고자 실시하였다. 연구 대상자의 직무스트레스 총합은 100점 환산 기준으로 $72.7{\pm}6.8$점으로 나타났으며, 연구 대상자들의 직무스트레스 정도에 따라 스트레스를 가장 적게 받는 그룹은 Q1, 스트레스를 적게 받는 그룹은 Q2, 스트레스를 많이 받는 그룹은 Q3, 스트레스를 가장 많이 받는 그룹은 Q4로 구분 하였다. 이들이 느끼는 스트레스는 조직적 관리체계에 대한 스트레스가 $21.9{\pm}3.3$점으로 직무요구도 $19.9{\pm}5.1$점, 보상 부적절 $16.1{\pm}2.5$점, 직무자율성 결여 $14.7{\pm}2.1$점에 비해 가장 높았다. 카페인에 대한 인지도 조사결과 카페인이 건강에 미칠 영향에 대해 스트레스가 가장 높은 군 (Q4)에서 '적당히 마시면 도움이 되고 해롭지 않다' 57.1%, '적게 마실수록 좋다'고 응답한 사람들이 17.3%로 스트레스가 많을수록 카페인은 적당히 섭취하면 도움이 되고 해롭지 않으나 적게 마실수록 좋다고 하였다. 스트레스 정도에 따른 카페인 섭취량을 보면 커피믹스 (1봉 47.51 mg)는 Q3에서 $86.1{\pm}56.4mg$ (p < 0.01), 자판기 커피 (1잔 47.51 mg)는 Q2에서 $62.3{\pm}60.9mg$ (p < 0.05), 커피전문점 커피 (1잔 158.43 mg)는 Q4에서 $40.7{\pm}88.7mg$ (p < 0.001), 녹차 (1티백: 28 mg)는 Q4에서 $18.4{\pm}32.4mg$ (p < 0.01)으로 가장 높게 나타났다. 이에 따른 카페인 일일섭취량은 Q1에서 $172.0{\pm}85.3mg$, Q2에서 $179.0{\pm}83.7mg$, Q3에서 $187.9{\pm}81.4mg$, Q4에서 $214.2{\pm}147.3mg$ 으로 Q4그룹이 유의하게 높았다 (p < 0.05). 본 연구 결과 카페인 최대 일일 섭취권고량 대비 실제 카페인 섭취량 비율은 Q1에서 $43.0{\pm}21.3%$, Q2에서 $44.8{\pm}20.9%$, Q3에서 $47.1{\pm}20.4%$, Q4에서 $53.6{\pm}36.8%$로 일일섭취량과 같이 Q4그룹이 유의하게 높았다 (p < 0.05). 카페인 섭취에 따른 부작용으로는 속이 메슥거리거나 구토와 같은 부작용이 Q4에서 $2.7{\pm}0.8$로 유의하게 높았다 (p < 0.05). 대상자들의 카페인 섭취량은 직무스트레스는 유의한 양의 상관관계를 (r = 0.137, p = 0.009), 평균 근무시간과도 유의한 양의 상관성을 보였으며 (r = 0.122 p = 0.001), 수면시간 역시 유의한 양의 상관성을 보였다 (r = 0.169, p = 0.001). 반면 카페인 섭취량과 근무기간은 유의한 음의 상관관계를 나타냈다 (r = -0.114. p = 0.031). 본 연구의 결과, K 제조공장 근로자들은 스트레스 정도가 높아질수록 섭취하는 카페인 섭취량이 많았고, 스트레스를 많이 받는 군에서는 최대 일일 섭취권고량 대비 실제 카페인 섭취량 비율이 50% 정도로 나타나 한국 20세 성인남자보다 2배 이상 섭취하는 것으로 조사되었다.

백합 Oriental-Asiatic 종간잡종의 임성 회복을 위한 카페인과 변온처리 (Overcoming sterility by Caffeine and Temperature in Oriental-Asiatic Interspecific Lily Hybrid)

  • 불임인 종간잡종 OA-1 $F_1$ hybrid(Oriental hybrid 'Mero Star' ${\times}$ Asiatic hybrid 'Connecticut King')의 임성을 회복하기 위해 카페인을 0.1, 0.3, 0.5%의 농도로 화뢰 내부에 직접 주입하였고 카페인 처리 후 OA-1 $F_1$ hybrid의 임성을 개화시 확인하였다. 임성을 회복한 $F_1$에 Asiatic hybrid 'Lanzarote'의 화분을 수분시켜 그 후대를 얻었다. 그 결과 0.3% caffeine 처리구는 16개의 자방 중 7개의 배를 치상하여 5개의 식물체를 획득할 수 있었다. 0.5% 처리구에서는 1개의 식물체만 얻었고 0.1% 처리구에서는 식물체를 얻을 수 없어 적정 카페인 처리 농도는 0.3%임을 확인할 수 있었고 이로부터 2n gametes로 예상되는 화분이 51%나 생성되었다. 교잡종 OA-2 ('Romero Star' ${\times}$ 'Lady Rosa')와 OA-3('Expression' ${\times}$ 'Lady Rosa')에 온도 단독 또는 caffeine과 온도를 병행하여 재식 후 8주-13주 동안 $13^{\circ}C$$28^{\circ}C$로 변온처리하여 발아율을 측정한 결과, 온도만 처리한 경우나 온도와 caffeine을 동시에 처리한 경우 간에는 큰 차이가 없었다. 적정 caffeine(0.3%)을 처리한 OA-1에 Asiatic hybrid 'Lanzarote'와 Oriental hybrid 'Sorbonne'을 각각 주두수분법으로 정역교배한 결과, A('Lanzarote') ${\times}$ OA-1 또는 OA-1 ${\times}$ A간 교배조합은 O('Sorbonne') ${\times}$ OA-1 또는 OA-1 ${\times}$ O 교배조합보다 식물체 획득률이 양호하였다. A ${\times}$ OA-1 또는 OA-1 ${\times}$ A로부터 획득된 후대는 GISH 분석에 의해 모두 3배체로 확인되었다.

Rhabdomyolysis and Acute Renal Failure Following an Intentional Overdose of Stacker 3 (A Caffeine-Containing Weight-Reduction Supplement)

  • "Stacker 3" is one of the most popular caffeine-containing weight-reduction supplements and it has ephedra-free properties as "Stacker 2 Ephedra-Free" in many countries, including Korea. We describe here a 26-year-old woman who took an acute intentional overdose of "Stacker 3"(approximately 50 capsules, total amount: 25 grams, as caffeine 250 mg/kg) and who had delirium, rhabdomyolysis and acute renal failure. She had to be treated by forced diuresis and urine alkalinization, and she subsequently recovered. This is the first such case report in the medical literature.

Ag-NORs 염색법과 [3H]thymidine incorporation법에 의한 caffeine의 NIH3T3 세포증식 억제효과 비교측정 (Comparison of Ag-NORs stain and [3H]thymidine incorporation in antiproliferative effect of caffeine on NIH3T3 cells)

  • Inhibitory effect of caffeine on NIH3T3 cell proliferation was studied by using [$^3H$]thymidine incorporation and a modified one-step silver staining technique. The latter technique shows argyrophilic nucleolar organizer region-associated proteins (Ag-NORs), which are seen in nuclei as black dots. The result was compared with the counts of [$^3H$] thymidine incorporation. The results were summarized as follows; 1. The Ag-NORs numbers of NIH3T3 cells were $6.81{\pm}1.38$ at 24 hrs, $7.13{\pm}1.26$ at 48 hrs, $8.50{\pm}2.04$ at 72 hrs after incubation. 2. The numbers of Ag-NORs were significantly decrease in caffeine treated groups (p<0.01). 3. The counts of [$^3H$] thymidine incorporation were similar to the result of using Ag-NORs staining technique. It is concluded that Ag-NOR is a rapid, simple and compatible method to quantitate cell proliferation as compared with [$^3H$]thymidine incorporation.

Acridine orange-β-cyclodextrin 내포 착물을 이용한 카페인의 분광형광법 정량 (Spectrofluorometric determination of caffeine using acridine orange-β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex)

  • A method on the determination of caffeine in beverage with acridiene orange-${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (CD) inclusion complex was developed. The conditions such as pH of the sample solution and concentration of acridine orange and ${\beta}$-CD were optimized to 12.0(${\pm}0.5$), $1.9{\times}10^{-6}M$ and $1.25{\times}10^{-3}M$, respectively. Under these optimum conditions, the calibration curve of caffeine was obtained over concentration range of $5{\times}10^{-5}{\sim}1.1{\times}10^{-3}M$. The detection limit was $1.0{\times}10^{-5}M$. The relative errors(%) in beverage samples were less than 5.0%.

  • PPCP (pharmaceuticals and personal care products) is known as micropollutant that is released from wastewater treatment plant. Research represents that these contaminants have increased in the last 10 years. This study tries to make four different trickling filter systems using plastic fiber media to remove PPCP such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, caffeine. The results of the experiment that compares the process efficiencies of four different systems (A, B, C and D) using HBC media show that almost all the reactor has around 95% removal efficiency. Slope type HBC reactor has twice higher efficiency rather than submerged type reactor to remove PPCP in water system. In 8 hours, 89% of acetaminophen, ibuprofen, caffeine are removed in slope type reactor while 39% of them in submerged type.

소의 항정자항체가 정자의 수정능획득 및 첨체반응에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Antisperm Antibodies on Capacitation and Acrosome Reaction of Bovine Spermatozoa)

  • The present study was performed to investigate the effects of caffeine and heparin on capacitation and acrosome reaction of bovine spermatozoa, effects of antisperm antibodies on acrosome reaction of bovine spermatozoa. The rates of acrosome reaction in control group, caffeine treated group, heparin treated group, caffeine-heparin complex treated group were 40.3, 54.3, 63.3, 72.3%, respectively and there were significant differences among the groups(p<0.01), especially higher in caffeine-heparin complex treated group than the others. The rates of acrosome reaction of antisperm antibodies serum supplemented groups(5, 10 and 20%) were 60.4, 48.9 and 37.1%, respectively and there were significant differences among the groups(p<0.0l), and the more increases in serum concentrations, the more decreases in acrosome reaction, but this phenomenon was not seen in fetal calf serum supplemented group and heifer serum group. When the serum concentration was 5%, the rates of acrosome reactions were significantly lower in fetal calf serum supplemented group than heifer serum group and in antisperm antibodies serum group(p<0.01), and there were no significant differences between heifer serum group and antisperm antibodies serum group(p<0.01). When the serum conecntrations were 10%, 20%, the rates of acrosome reactions were significantly lower in antisperm antibodies serum supplemented group than in fetal calf serum group and in geifer serum group(p<0.01), and there were no significant differences between fetal calf serum group and heifer serum group(p<0.01). These results indicate that caffeine-heparin complex treatment is very effective for inducing acrosome reaction of bovine spermatozoa and that antisperm antibodies block acrosome reaction.

Effects of Omeprazole and Caffeine Alone and in Combination with Gentamicin and Ciprofloxacin Against Antibiotic Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus and Escherichia Coli Strains

  • Objective: Antibiotic resistance is a global health problem and threatens health of societies. These problems have led to a search for alternative approaches such as combination therapy. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of caffeine and omeprazole in combination with gentamicin or ciprofloxacin against standard and clinically resistant isolates of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Methods: The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values of different agents against bacterial strains were determined. The interaction of non- antibiotic drugs with gentamicin and ciprofloxacin was studied in vitro using a checkerboard method and calculating fraction inhibitory concentration index (FICI). Verapamil as efflux pump inhibitor was used to evaluate the possible mechanism of bacterial resistance to antibiotics. Results: The MIC and MBC values of gentamicin against bacterial strains were in the range of $20-80{\mu}g/ml$ and $40-200{\mu}g/ml$, respectively. Caffeine and omeprazole had no intrinsic inhibitory activity against tested microorganisms. However, upon combination of caffeine with antibiotics, the synergistic effects were observed. Verapamil was able to reduce the MIC values of gentamicin (4 folds) only in some bacterial strains. Conclusion: These findings indicated that caffeine was effective in removing bacterial infection caused by S. aureus and E. coli. The relevant mechanisms of antibiotic resistance were not related to the drug efflux.

한우에 있어서 난포란의 체외수정에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구 (Study on Factors Affecting in vitro Fertilization of Follicular Oocytes in Korean Native Cattle)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the factors affecting fertilization in vitro of follicular oocytes with frozen-thawed spermatozoa in Korean Native Cattle. The bovine ovaries were obtained at a slaughter house and the follicular oocytes were recovered by aspirating the follicular fluid from the visible follicles of 3~6mm. The bovine oocytes were matured in vitro for 20~24 hours in TCM-199 containing FCS and hormones. The matured oocytes were fertilized in vitro using Percoll-separated frozen-thawed spermatozoa in BO solution. The effects of dilution and fertilization media, capacitating method, concentration of inseminated sperm and time after insemination of fertilization, were observed. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. The fertilization rate of frozen-thawed sperm inseminated in BO solution with caffeine and heparin together(56.4%) was higher than that of sperm inseminated in BO solution with either caffeine(10.5%) or heparin(8.9%) and without both caffeine and heparin(0%)(P<0.05). 2. The fertilization rate(56.3%) of frozen-thawed sperm inseminated in BO solution with both caffeine and heparin without preincubation was higher than that of sperm preincubated(2.9%)(P<0.05). 3. The fertilization with high concentration of frozen-thawed sperm(1.4~1.8$\times$107cells/ml) in BO solution containing caffeine and heparin resulted in higher fertilization rate, 76.7%, than the low concentration of sperm(0.8~1.0$\times$107cells/ml), 32.7%(P<0.01). 4. When the oocytes were inseminated with frozen-thawed sperm in BO solution containing caffeine and heparin without preincubation, fertilization rate increased by time and the rates were 5.9, 46.0 and 59.4% at 8, 16 and 24 hours, respectively.

청소년의 범불안장애와 카페인섭취에 따른 식습관과 정신건강: 제18차(2022년) 청소년건강행태조사자료를 이용하여 (Dietary Habits and Mental Health According to Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Caffeine Consumption in Adolescents: Using data from the 18th (2022) Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey)

  • This study examined dietary habits and mental health according to generalized anxiety disorders (GAD) and caffeine consumption in adolescents. The data were collected from the 18th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey with a sample of 51,850 students. The proportion of students in the GAD High-Risk·Caffeine consumption group (GHRCC) who consumed sweet drinks (p< .001), fast food (p< .001), and midnight meals (p< .001) every day was 15.6, 21.9, and 22.4%, respectively. These proportions were higher than those of students who consumed sweet drinks, fast food, and midnight meals 1-2 times a week, 3-4 times a week, or not at all. In addition, the proportions of GHRCC among students who responded "yes" to experiencing sadness and despair (p< .001), suicidal thoughts (p< .001), suicide plans (p< .001), suicide attempts (p< .001), and loneliness (p< .001) were higher than students who responded "no." The GAD High-Risk group (GHR) had higher odds with the consumption of midnight meals (OR: 2.51, 95% CI: 2.10-2.99), caffeine consumption (OR: 2.46, 95% CI: 2.21-2.74), and fast food (OR: 2.11, 95% CI: 1.75-2.55) than GAD Low-Risk group. Based on the above results, the risk of GHR was higher among students who consumed midnight meals, caffeine, and fast food daily than those who did not.
