  • The influence of waves on the dynamic properties of bending moments at the root of blades of tidal stream vertical axis rotors is reported. Blade theory for wind turbine is combined with linear wave theory and used to analyse this influence. Experiments were carried out to validate the simulation and the comparison shows the usefulness of the theory in predicting the bending moments. The mathematical model is then used to study the importance of waves for the fatigue design of the blade-hub connection.

  • Objectives : In this article, an analysis of the changing theory(從化理論) of Sameumsamyang(三陰三陽) and Pyobonjung(標本中) in some important medical books, and the historical contexts of those is investigated. Methods : Primary literatures about the changing theory were searched by key words of Sameumsamyang and Pyobonjung in main medical texts, and then analyses and selecting of significant documents have followed. Results : The application of the changing theory to clinical treatment has been mainly done in the process of comprehension and practice about "Sanghanron(傷寒論)". Getting out of simple explanation about meaning of paragraphs in "Sanghanron", the clinical application has been expended to detail drug instruction and prescription managements. Conclusions : The changing theory of Sameumsamyang and Pyobonjung has been actively applied to supporting clinical treatment historically, not recognized merely as a ideal theory.

  • The telegrapher's theory was used to develop a new formulation for the neutron noise equation. Telegrapher's equation is supposed to demonstrate a more realistic approximation for neutron transport phenomena, especially in comparison to the diffusion theory. The physics behind such equation implies that the signal propagation speed is finite, instead of the infinite as in the case of ordinary diffusion. This paper presents the theory and results of the development of a new method for calculation of the neutron noise using the telegrapher's equation as its basis. In order to investigate the differences and strengths of the new method against the diffusion based neutron noise, a comparison was done between the behaviors of two methods. The neutron noise based on SN transport considered as a precision measuring point. The Green's function technique was used to calculate the neutron noise based on telegrapher's and diffusion methods as well as the transport. The amplitude and phase of Green's function associated with the properties of the medium and frequency of the noise source were obtained and their behavior was compared to the results of the transport. It was observed, the differences in some cases might be considerable. The effective speed of propagation for the noise perturbations were evaluated accordingly, resulting in considerable deviations in some cases.

  • This paper describes the torque calculation of Flux Switching Motor using Winding Function Theory. First of all, the optimized new Flux Switching Motor was proposed to minimize the torque ripple. The simulation results by the Winding Function Theory were compared with those from Finite Element Analysis. The revised Flux Switching Motor and experimental setup were manufactured. The simulation result by the Winding Function Theory was compared with that of the experiment. The comparison validated the analysis method of the Flux Switching Motor by Winding Function Theory.

  • An original quasi-3D hyperbolic shear deformation theory for simply supported functionally graded plates is proposed in this work. The theory considers both shear deformation and thickness-stretching influences by a hyperbolic distribution of all displacements within the thickness, and respects the stress-free boundary conditions on the upper and lower surfaces of the plate without using any shear correction coefficient. By expressing the shear parts of the in-plane displacements with the integral term, the number of unknowns and equations of motion of the proposed theory is reduced to four as against five in the first shear deformation theory (FSDT) and common quasi-3D theories. Equations of motion are obtained from the Hamilton principle. Analytical solutions for dynamic problems are determined for simply supported plates. Numerical results are presented to check the accuracy of the proposed theory.

  • Objectives : In this article, the application of the theory of Sameumsamyang Gaehapchu to clinical treatment in some important medical books of traditional medicine, for example Jienuelunshu(?虐論疏) etc, is investigated. Methods : The literatures containing the application were searched in the Sikuquanshu(四庫全書) database by key words of Sameumsamyang and Gaehapchu, and then analysis and investigation of significant documents has followed. Results : The application of the theory of Sameumsamyang Gaehapchu to clinical treatment has been mainly done with some characteristics that are expansion to the theory of visceral organs, suggestion of various medicines, and definite explanation of the relationship between Gaehapchu. These characteristics made it easy to predict prognosis of diseases and to determine order of treatment. Conclusions : After the age of Huangdineijing, the theory of Sameumsamyang Gaehapchu to clinical treatment has been developed and realized through application of the theory to clinical treatment.

  • The purpose of this research is to understand users' information protection behavior on personal information security from health psychology theory perspectives. Empirical results indicate that users' information protection behavior on personal information is predicted by perceived threat and perceived responsiveness. Perceived threat is determined by perceived susceptibility and perceived severity. Perceived responsiveness is determined by response efficacy and self-efficacy, but response cost is not significant. These findings provide an enriched understanding about users' information protection behavior on personal information security.

  • Yosimasu Nangai (吉益南涯) is son of Yoshimasu Todo (吉益東洞), an eminent figure of traditional Japanese medicine. He wrote many medical books including Ihan(醫範) and Kigetusuiyakucho(氣血水藥徵), which contain core thoughts of Nangai. This study analyzed Ihan(醫範) and Kigetusuiyakucho(氣血水藥徵) to figure out Nangai's explanation in depth. Conclusion is as follows. He was influenced by his father's theory that all diseases come from one toxin but there were many differences in his theory. Also influences of qi-blood-phlegm stasis theory(氣血痰鬱論) established by Zhudanxi(朱丹溪) are apparent in several aspects. Consequently he established his own body fluid pathology called qi-blood-fluid theory(氣血水論).

  • This paper presents a nonlocal shear deformation beam theory for bending, buckling, and vibration of functionally graded (FG) nanobeams using the nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen. The developed theory account for higher-order variation of transverse shear strain through the depth of the nanobeam, and satisfy the stress-free boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the nanobeam. A shear correction factor, therefore, is not required. In addition, this nonlocal nanobeam model incorporates the length scale parameter which can capture the small scale effect and it has strong similarities with Euler-Bernoulli beam model in some aspects such as equations of motion, boundary conditions, and stress resultant expressions. The material properties of the FG nanobeam are assumed to vary in the thickness direction. The equations of motion are derived from Hamilton's principle. Analytical solutions are presented for a simply supported FG nanobeam, and the obtained results compare well with those predicted by the nonlocal Timoshenko beam theory.
