산업환기공학에 대한 전산유체역학의 응용가능성 (Applicability of Computational Fluid Dynamics on Industrial Ventilation Engineering)

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) was applied to predict air flow around the hoods : circular hoods, square hoods, and push-pull hoods. A commercially available CFD software, CFD-ACE(Ver. 4.0), was tested, which is based on the finite volume method using the ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. Numerical results were compared with the experimental, analytical and numerical results from other studies. CFD solutions showed an excellent agreement with the previous experimental and numerical results. It is promising that CFD techniques could be applied on the variety of complex problems in the industrial ventilation engineering.

  • Research being undertaken at the University of Auckland has enabled Vortec Energy to improve the performance of the Vortec 7 Diffuser Augmented Wind Turbine. Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) modelling of the Vortec 7 was used to ascertain the effectiveness of geometric modifications to the Vortec 7. The CFD work was then developed to look at new geometries, and refinement of these led to greater power augmentation for a given diffuser exit area ratio. Both full scale analysis of the Vortec 7 and a wind tunnel investigation of the development design have been used for comparison with the CFD model.

  • An approach to CFD code validation is developed that gives proper consideration to experimental and simulation uncertainties. The comparison errors include the difference between the data, simulation values and represents the combination of all errors. The uncertainties of modeling and numerical analysis in the CFD prediction were estimated by a Coleman's theory. In this paper, the numerical solutions are calculated by A-type standard uncertainty and Richardson extrapolation Method.

  • A CFD analysis of helicopter flowfield in forward flight is considered as non-trivial issue because of the complexity of vorticity-dominated flowfield. In this work, a study on the selection of the proper location for the installation of the Pitot probe is conducted using a CFD code which can deal with the interaction of rotor blade vortex and body. To describe the flow patterns for rotating rotor blades and body, the sliding mesh scheme is utilized. Pressure distributions and flow patterns are also analyzed to identify regions free from the interaction of body and wake induced from rotor blades.

  • Various types of hydraulic shock absorbers are widely used in many fields because of its numerous advantages. However, in order to design adequate damping characteristics, accurate flow data near the orifices are required essentially. In this paper, a commercial computational fluid dynamics(CFD) code, FLUENT is adopted to investigate the flow characteristics near orifices of a shock absorber. Static pressure and velocity vector distributions, fluid path lines are presented for compression/tension strokes and various piston speeds. In order to validate the result of analysis, the numerically obtained damping forces are compared with those of analytical estimations obtained by modified Bernoulli equation. The results reported herein will provide better understanding of the detailed flow fields within shock absorber, and the CFD analysis method proposed in this paper can be used in the design of other types of hydraulic shock absorber.

  • In this paper, a correlation analysis of wake distribution between model test and CFD was described. CFD calculation was performed by 'WAVIS' which is utilized in hullform development. By using the correlation between model test and CFD, we have estimated M/T wake distribution To control M/T and CFD wake distribution effectively. we have developed the program that it is possible to export to TECPLOT and visualize wake distribution.

  • The present study has been conducted to improve temperature distribution in the motor housing of vacuum cleaner and reduce the development period by CFD analysis. CFD analysis is performed to investigate the thermal flow pattern in the motor housing and validated by experiments. The validation of CFD analysis is conducted by comparing the temperature distribution on motor housing cover. Through the present study the CFD analysis procedure in the motor housing of vacuum cleaner is established and various experimental materials are obtained. These analysis results can be used effectively as design factors of vacuum cleaner.

  • In this study, in order to investigate the effects of wall roughness on the hydraulic characteristics of chlorine contactor, CFD simulation and tracer tests were conducted for both of reactors whose walls are made of concrete and lined with PE(Poly Ethylene). In the case of walls contacted with water being lined with PE (relatively lower roughness), the flow within reactor is closer to plug flow than that in the case of concrete walls (relatively higher roughness). Especially, the longer tail of C-curve from the results of transient CFD simulation can tell that Morill index in the case concrete walls is much higher than that in the case of walls be lined with lower roughness material.
