  • We propose nonlinear processing schemes for robust acquisition of direct-sequence spread spectrum (DS/SS) signals in wideband pulse jamming. To mitigate the interference effect due to impulse-like wideband jamming signals, the received signal is preprocessed by using the median filter, a simple order statistic filter Since only parts of the PN sequence are used for rapid acquisition, it is indispensable for analytic design of an acquisition scheme to have an appropriate model of the partial PN signal. The partial correlation of the median filtered PN signal is approximated by a two-piecewise linear model using an approximate upper bound. The acquisition performance of the proposed schemes is compared to that of other schemes. Finally, the analytic design is verified by computer simulation.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relative weight of infectious disease vulnerability indicators that affect the occurrence and spread of infectious diseases in local communities. For this, the infectious disease vulnerability indicators were classified as facilities vulnerable to spread, vulnerable groups of infections, social vulnerable conditions, and response capabilities based on literature and case review, and the relative weights among indicators were determined using Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) by 22 experts. As a result of the analysis, the weight of each sector was found to be the highest in the facilities vulnerable to spread, and the overall weight was highest in the following order: sickbed securing rate(1st), density of religious facilities(2nd), medical personnel rate(3rd), elderly person ratio(4th), and entertainment establishment density(5th). These results can be used to prepare the supporting data necessary for the establishment of infectious disease response policies of local governments.

  • Due to its capability to resist jamming signals, chirp spread spectrum (CSS) technique has attracted much attention in the field of wireless communications. However, there has been little rigorous analysis for the performance of CSS systems in the presence of jamming signals. In this paper, thus, we present analytic results on the performance of a CSS system: specifically, symbol error rate (SER) expressions are derived for a CSS M-ary phase shift keying (MPSK) system in the presence of broadband and tone jamming signals, respectively. The numerical results show that the empirical SER closely agree with the analytic result.

  • A reliable analytic model that predicts the surface profile of the exit cross section of workpiece in round-oval (or oval-round) pass sequence is established. The presented model does not require any plasticity theory but needs the only geometric information on workpiece and roll groove. Formulation is based on the linear interpolation of the radius of curvature of an incoming workpiece and that of roll groove in the roll axis direction when the maximum spread of workpiece is known beforehand. The validity of the analytic model is examined by hot rod rolling experiment with the roll gap, specimen size, design parameter of oval groove and steel grade changed. Results revealed that the cross sectional shapes predicted by the model were in good agreement with those obtained experimentally. We found that the analytic model not only has simplicity and accuracy for practical usage but also saves a large amount of computational time in comparison with finite element method.

  • Recently school food service operations are confronted with the wide spread pressures for accountability and the need to increase productivity. This paper is concerned with the make-or-buy decision framework for school food service systems considering the multi-attributes in the decision making. For the purpose of considering the multi-attributes analysis method in decision making for the school foodservice, we developed a make-or-buy decision framework using the multi-attribute analysis method, analytic hierarchy process, AHP method for school food service system. Finally, we developed a systematic and practical solution builder for a three-step decision support system in the view of 1) brainstorming for the idea generation, 2) analytic hierarchy process, AHP as a multi-attribute structure ed analysis method, and 3) aggregation logic model to integrate the results of reviewers. We developed web based program and applied it to a school foodservice problem.

  • The objective of this paper is to develop a computational model for the prediction of the pollutant spread from a mass source over a complex terrain. The model comprises a two-dimensional, steady state flow model and a concentration model which employs the results of the computed flow field. The computational model is applied to predict the spread of pollutants for Sanbon city, and the two cases have been compard with the results of SF/sub 6/ trace experiments.

  • The chirp spread spectrum (CSS) technique spreads the data signal over a frequency bandwidth wider than minimum required bandwidth. By using time overlapping, the bit rate in CSS can be increased. However, for reliable transmission of data signal, the intersymbol interference (ISI) due to overlap should be analyzed. In this paper, the relation between the degree of overlap and ISI is analyzed in direct modulation binary phase shift keying CSS systems. In some cases, the overlap does not incur ISI at all and the ISI fluctuates or monotonically increases as the number of overlaps changes. It is also shown that the simulation results closely agree with the analytic results.

  • A method of estimating the fluid drag of a fishing gear and otter board spread in a midwater trawl on full scale was described by implementing a three-dimensional semi-analytic treatment of the towing cable (warp) of a trawl system with the field experiments obtained with the SCANMAR system. The shape of hand rope, bridle and float(or ground) rope attached behind otter boards in a horizontal plane was assumed to be of form $y_r=Ax_r^B$. The distance between otter boards (otter board spread) obtained by the three dimensional analysis of a towing cable must be equal to that obtained by the functional equation of the shape of ropes behind otter boards, The angle of attack of ropes which can be obtained from the functional equation enables one to estimate the fluid drag of trawl net (net drag) by subtracting the fluid drag of the hand rope and bridles from the drag component of the tension of hand rope attached just behind the otter boards.
