Recently, there have been many researches and developments in optical disc drive by high density of track and high access speed. Therefore, the optical pick-up should guarantee highly accurate dynamic characteristics for the wide bandwidth in order to cope with this trend. These demands for optical pick-up actuator can be solved by improvements of lens-holder through the following methods. The first way is the analysis of the sensitivity matrix of design variables for vibration modes after appropriate design parameters are selected like shapes and local dimensions of a lens-holder. The second way is the optimization of design variables by calculating sequential linear programming after the problem of extending bandwidth are converted to problem of minimizing adequate objective function. In the result, modified FE model is obtained through several iterations by finite difference scheme(FDS). While results of the first way show better convergence of the target frequency, the second result shows better reduction of mass increase.
Lysosome organelle extract (LOE) was derived from egg whites. The lysosome is an intracellular organelle that contains several hydrolysis enzymes. Previous studies have reported that LOE performs important functions, such as melanin de-colorization and anti-melanin production in B16F10 melanoma cells. However, its principal molecular and cellular mechanisms have not been elucidated till date. In non-cytotoxic conditions, LOE significantly inhibited α-MSH induced melanin synthesis of murine B16F10 cells. The anti-melanogenic activity of LOE was mediated by suppressing the mRNA expression of tyrosinase enzyme, tyrosinase related protein-1/2 (TRP-1/2), and microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF) genes. By performing western blot analysis, we found that LOE significantly attenuated melanogenesis. In this case, LOE helped in increasing extracellular receptor kinase (ERK) phosphorylation in α-MSH induced B16F10 cells. Furthermore, MITF is found to be a key regulatory transcription factor in melanin synthesis; it was down-regulated by LOE through ERK phosphorylation. In this experiment, PD98059 (MEK inhibitor) was used to check whether LOE directly regulated the activity of ERK. Although LOE exerted inhibitory effect on melanin synthesis, we could not observe this effect in PD98059-treated α-MSH induced B16F10. These results strongly indicate that LOE is related to ERK activation and MITF degradation in anti-skin pigmentation. Hence, LOE should be utilized as a whitening agent of skin in the near future.

In the present study, a yeast species isolated from CETP, Vellore, Tamilnadu was identified as Cryptococcus sp. VITGBN2 based on molecular techniques and was found to be a potent producer of acidic diacetate sophorolipid in mineral salt media containing vegetable oil as additional carbon source. The chemical structure of the purified biosurfactant was identified as acidic diacetate sophorolipid through GC-MS analysis. This sophorolipid was used as a stabilizer for synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZON). The formation of biofunctionalized ZON was characterized using UV-visible spectroscopy, XRD, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The antimicrobial activities of naked ZON and sophorolipid functionalized ZON were tested based on the diameter of inhibition zone in agar well diffusion assay, microbial growth rate determination, protein leakage analysis, and lactate dehydrogenase assay. Bacterial pathogen Salmonella enterica and fungal pathogen Candida albicans showed more sensitivity to sophorolipid biofunctionalized ZON compared with naked ZON. Among the two pathogens, S. enterica showed higher sensitivity towards sophorolipid biofunctionalized ZON. SEM analysis showed that cell damage occurred through cell elongation in the case of S. enterica, whereas cell rupture was found to occur predominantly in the case of C. albicans. This is the first report on the dual role of yeast-mediated sophorolipid used as a biostabilizer for ZON synthesis as well as a novel functionalizing agent showing antimicrobial property.
In general, texture images with regular patterns can be described by using the standard texture model regularity vectors for their shape analysis. Early methods not only take much time but also have computational complexity in obtaining regularity vectors. The proposed some improved preprocessing algorithms for texture analysis. Finally, we showed the utility of the proposed method through texture synthesis by making use of the results of texture analysis.
Research on vibration of a vehicle with a transversely mounted 4-cylinder engine was performed using a vector synthesis method, Data of the engine vibration for the vector synthesis method was obtained experimentally and the data was ODS-fitted to calculate vibration level on any engine location assuming that the engine is rigid body in the frequency range of interest. In order to derive the excitation force on the vehicle body, the displacements were converted from the acceleration of engine. The transfer functions from engine mounts to toe pan on the floor were obtained experimentally. The vibration level on the toe pan was predicted by multiplying the excitation force by the transfer function. The predicted vibration level was compared with experimental data and the result was reasonable. Using the developed method, analysis was made for the effect of body fixture conditions of the vehicle when testing the engine vibration and for the effect of the transfer functions when the engine is installed or when the engine is removed. Finally the degree of contribution for 12 transfer paths was calculated.
We report the facile synthesis of graphene-$CdLa_2S_4$ composite through a facile solvothermal method at low temperature. The as-prepared products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis and BET analysis, revealing the uniform covering of the graphene nanosheet with $CdLa_2S_4$ nanocrystals. The as-prepared samples show a higher efficiency for the photocatalytic degradation of typical MB dye compared with P25 and $CdLa_2S_4$ bulk nanoparticles. The enhancement of visible-light-responsive photocatalytic properties by decolorization of Rh.B dye may be attributed to the following causes. Firstly, graphene nanosheet is capable of accepting, transporting and storing electrons, and thus retarding or hindering the recombination of the electrons with the holes remaining on the excited $CdLa_2S_4$ nanoparticles. Secondly, graphene nanosheet can increase the adsorption of pollutants. The final cause is that their extended light absorption range. This work not only offers a simple way to synthesize graphene-based composites via a one-step process at low temperature but also a path to obtain efficient functional materials for environmental purification and other applications.
The design of injection molded polymeric parts has been done empirically, since it requires profound knowledge about the moldability and causal effects on the properties of the part, which are not available to designers through current CAD systems. An interactive computer-based design system is developed in order to realize the concept of rational design for the productivity and quality of mold making. The knowledge-based CAD system is constructed by adding the knowledge-base module for mold feature synthesis and appropriate CAE programs for mold design analysis in order to provide designers, at the initial design stage, with comprehensive process knowledge for feature synthesis performance analysis and feature-based geometric modeling. A knowledge-based CAD system is a new tool which enables the concurrent design with integrated and balanced design decisions at the initial design stage of injection molding.
This paper addresses on the model synthesis and performance analysis of an engine mount featuring electro-rheological(ER) fluids which undergo a phase change when subjected to electric fields. A novel type of ER fluid-filled engine mount is devised and its hydraulic model is constructed. An equivalent mechanical model is subsequently obtained from the governing equation of the hydraulic model. The model parameters associated with the ER fluids are distilled from experimental investigations on the Bingham properties of the fluids. The distilled data are then incorporated into the governing model to undertake feasible work through computer simulations,. It is shown that the proposed engine mount has an inherent capability of controlling both the damping force and the resonance frequency. Other superior performance characteristics accrued from the proposed methodology are also evaluated.
