  • How has the use of academic journals changed since the academic library purchase policy changed from selective journals based on core journals to package purchases by big deal? The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of supply and size of academic journals in university libraries on the use of journals. For this purpose, this study used the actual usage statistics of e-journals of K Academic Libraries during 2013-2015. The analysis shows that there is a so-called long-tail shape in which demand shifts to niche products that are effective in online platforms. Analysis of the use of academic journals by year for three years showed that the use of electronic journals in K Academic Libraries appeared to be a perfect Pareto shape, which is concentrated in the top 20% of journals. In particular, in 2015, the top 5% of journals accounted for nearly 80% of the total usage. Despite the changes in the supply method and size of academic journals, users' use of journals was still concentrated in core journals.

  • In the field of science and technology, influential international journals can easily be found in SCIE. A total number of journals published by societies or institutes in Korea are only 82 of the 8,300 SCIE titles. In this study, in light of the SCI criteria the detailed analysis, of these journals was performed for Korean SCIE journals. The results show that in general domestic journals were not actively cited, had a low level of internationality, and user services through the website was insufficient. Korean SCIE journals should continue to complement these points and elevate its reputation. Candidate journals should concentrate on recruiting more excellent papers, promoting communication with foreign researchers, enhancing domestic and international public relations, and the like. To actively support the domestic publication of excellent journals, long-term and short-term measures should be established and consistently practiced at the national level.

  • There have been little comprehensive research for studying impact of foreign journals on Korean scientists. The main reason for this is because there was no extensive citation index database of domestic journals for analysis. Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) built the Korea Science Citation Database (KSCD), and have provided Korea Science Citation Index (KSCI) and Korea Journal Citation Reports (KJCR) services. In this article, citing behavior of Korean scientists on foreign journals was examined by using KSCD that covers Korean core journals. This research covers (1) analysis of foreign document types cited, (2) analysis of citation counts of foreign journals by subject and the ratio of citing different disciplines, (3) analysis of language and country of foreign documents cited, (4) analysis of publishers of journals and whether or not journals are listed on global citation index services and (5) analysis for current situation of subscribing to foreign electronic journals in Korea. The results of this research would be useful for establishing strategies for licensing foreign electronic journals and for information services. From this research, immediacy citation rate (average 1.46%), peak-time (average 3.9 years) and half-life (average 8 years) of cited foreign journals were identified. It was also found that Korean scientistis tend to cite journals covered in SCI(E) or SCOPUS, and 90% of cited foreign journals have been licensed by institutions in Korea.

  • In this study, the researcher aimed to increase productive reflection of pre-service elementary teachers through meta-analysis of their own reflective journals. The meta-analysis activities are expected to enhance their learning effectively as a kind of self-assesment. During 8 week simulation teaching, 26 pre-service teachers kept individual journal writing and the meta-analysis activities were implemented twice (after the 3rd and 8th week). Right after the first meta-analysis, the pre-service teachers' productive reflection increased clearly. However this would not guarantee the effect would last long time period. By analyzing 8 week reflective journals, reports on meta-analysis activities and small group interview, this study shed light on practical ways of enhancing reflective teacher education.

  • This study aims to describe the general patterns of Korean research in Arts and Kinesiology, particularly from the perspective of authorship. Among the 12 sub-areas of Arts and Kinesiology indexed in the Korean Citation Index (KCI), journals in three sub-areas, "Arts," "Design," and "Kinesiology" have the longest publishing histories and produced the largest volume of articles. 68 journals in the "Arts," "Design," and "Kinesiology" sub-areas were accredited in the KCI between 2001 and 2019; 40,955 articles which were published in the journals between the years of accreditation and the end of 2019 serve as the context of this article. Authorship, affiliated institutions and countries, openness to new authors, top researchers, topological properties of authorship networks, overall research performance by authors, and co-authorship patterns were analyzed and compared among three sub-subjects.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine Korean journals related to science education in order to analyze research trends into Nature of science in Korea. The subject of the study is the level of Korean Citation Index (KCI-listed, KCI listing candidates), that can be searched by the key phrase, "Nature of science" in Korean language through the RISS service. In this study, the Descriptive Statistical Analysis Method is utilized to discover the number of research articles, classifying them by year and by journal. Also, the Sementic Network Analysis was conducted to Word Cloud Analysis the frequency of key words, Centrality Analysis, co-occurrence and Cluster Dendrogram Analysis throughout a variety of research articles. The results show that 91 research papers were published in 25 journals from 1991 to 2015. Specifically, the 2 major journals published more than 50% of the total papers. In relation to research fields., In addition, key phrases, such as 'Analysis', 'recognition', 'lessons', 'science textbook', 'History of Science' and 'influence' are the most frequently used among the research studies. Finally, there are small language networks that appear concurrently as below: [Nature of science - high school student - recognize], [Explicit - lesson - effect], [elementary school - science textbook - analysis]. Research topic have been gradually diversified. However, many studies still put their focus on analysis and research aspects, and there have been little research on the Teaching and learning methods.

  • The rapid development of science and technology has brought about a quantitative expansion and a decrease of practical life span of information. Food science, a kind of life science and practical science, can not be an exception. Analysis of food components is the fundamental basis of the Food Science. So I would like this to be of some help to the following researches through the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the contents of the food analysis research papers in food science related Korean journals. Five hundred seventy four research papers published from 1984 to 1993 in the three journals, that is, Korean Journal of Food Science & Technology. The Korean Journal of Nutrition, The Korean Journal of Home Economics, which is three major journals read by people in Home Economics area are analyzed in this study. The method applied in this study is content analysis. Followings are the results of the content analysis : 1) When categorize the material foods into food groups, cereal group is analyzed most often(15.8%), followed by fish and shellfish group(12.4%), oil and fat group(11.8%). The least often analyzed food group is egg group. Among the food soybean is most often analyzed(6.0%), followed by polished rice(3.7%), glutinous rice(2.2%), cabbage(2.1%) and human milk(1.8%). 2) About the analyzed food components, the general components such as moisture, crude protein, crude fat, carbohydrate and ash has been analyzed very often but the trace nutrients such as vitamins and minerals has scarcely been analyzed. 3) The method used in the food components analysis is usually AOAC(Association of Official Analytical Chemist, USA). HPLC was applied to the analysis of many food components like amino acids, fatty acids, vitamin A, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin C and vitamin E.

  • This study analyzed humanities and social science (HSS) journals of KCI to examine the multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity in the general and miscellaneous fields (hereinafter referred to as 'GM fields'), The multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity identified in this study will be a foundation to improve classification of KCI journals in GM fields. Each journal's multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity were measured by journal-level entropy and document-level entropy, respectively, in the citation relationships. According to the analysis, GM field journals have wide ranges of multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity. To improve classification quality of journals in GM fields, the general humanities should be considered as a new classification class for the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary journals in the humanities. Furthermore, this study proposes a strategy to reclassify GM field journals of HSS according to their multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity.
