Objective : Peripheral nerve injuries occur mostly as a result of mechanical trauma. Due to the microvascular deterioration in peripheral nerve damage, it becomes challenging to remove free oxygen radicals. Gallic acid is a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory effects and a free radical scavenger. The purpose of the study is to show that gallic acid contributes to the restorative effect in mechanical nerve damage, considering its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Methods : Thirty male Sprague Dawley albino mature rats were included in the study. Ten of them constituted the control group, 10 out of 20 rats for which sciatic nerve damage was caused, constituted the saline group, and 10 formed the gallic acid group. Post-treatment motor functions, histological, immunohistochemical, and biochemical parameters of the rats were evaluated. Results : Compared to the surgery+saline group, lower compound muscle action potential (CMAP) latency, higher CMAP amplitude, and higher inclined plane test values were found in the surgery+gallic acid group. Similarly, a higher nerve growth factor (NGF) percentage, a higher number of axons, and a lower percentage of fibrosis scores were observed in the surgery+gallic acid group. Finally, lower tissue malondialdehyde (MDA) and higher heat shock protein-70 (HSP-70) values were determined in the surgery+gallic acid group. Conclusion : Gallic acid positively affects peripheral nerve injury healing due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. It has been thought that gallic acid can be used as a supportive treatment in peripheral nerve damage.

The fully digital active array radar uses a wide beam for effective mission performance within a limited time. This paper presents a convex optimization algorithm that adjusts only the phase of an array element. First, the algorithm applies a semidefinite relaxation technique to relax the constraint and convert it to a convex set. Then, the constraint is set so that the amplitude is fixed to some extent and the phase is variable. Finally, the optimization is performed to minimize the sum of the eigenvalues obtained through eigenvalue decomposition. Compared to the application results of the existing genetic algorithm, the proposed algorithm is more effective in wide beam design for a fully digital active array radar.

Experimental studies have been conducted to verify that the positive coupling between pressure oscillation (p') and combustion oscillation (q') of high frequency range is a prerequisite for the initiation of low frequency instability in hybrid rocket combustion. The post-chamber length and combustion equivalence ratio were selected as critical parameters to control the phase difference between p' and q', and p' amplitude in relation to the suppression of LFI. In the results, even if the post-chamber length increases, the phase difference between p' and q' maintains below pi/2, which is a necessary condition for the LFI development, but the amplification of RI (Rayleigh index) was substantially decreased leading to a stable combustion. In addition, results confirmed that combustion stability is achieved by changing the momentary equivalence ratio and/or by suppressing the positive coupling status of p' and q'. Thus, the periodic amplification of RI was identified as the middle path of the mechanism of occurrence of LFI.

The power quality of Single Phase Grid-Connected Inverters (GCIs) has received much attention with the increasing number of Distributed Generation (DG) systems. However, the performance of single phase GCIs get degraded due to several factors such as the grid voltage harmonics, the dead time effect, and the turn ON/OFF of the switches, which causes the harmonics at the output of GCIs. Therefore, it is not easy to satisfy the harmonic standards such as IEEE 519 and P1547 without the help of harmonic compensator. To meet the harmonic standards a certain kind of harmonic controller needs to be added to the current control loop to effectively mitigate the low order harmonics. In this paper, the harmonic compensation is performed using a novel robust harmonic compensation method based on Digital Lock-in Amplifier (DLA). In the proposed technique, DLAs are used to extract the amplitude and phase information of the harmonics from the output current and compensate it by using a simple PI controller in the feedforward manner. In order to show the superior performance of the proposed harmonic compensation technique, it is compared with those of conventional harmonic compensation methods in terms of the effectiveness of harmonic elimination, complexity, and implementation. The validity of the proposed harmonic compensation techniques for the single phase GCIs is verified through the experimental results with a 5kW single phase GCI. Index Terms -Single Phase Grid Connected Inverter (SPGCI), Harmonic Compensation Method, Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and Harmonic Standard.

Post-transcriptional regulation underlies the circadian control of gene expression and animal behaviors. However, the role of mRNA surveillance via the nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) pathway in circadian rhythms remains elusive. Here, we report that Drosophila NMD pathway acts in a subset of circadian pacemaker neurons to maintain robust 24 h rhythms of free-running locomotor activity. RNA interference-mediated depletion of key NMD factors in timeless-expressing clock cells decreased the amplitude of circadian locomotor behaviors. Transgenic manipulation of the NMD pathway in clock neurons expressing a neuropeptide PIGMENT-DISPERSING FACTOR (PDF) was sufficient to dampen or lengthen free-running locomotor rhythms. Confocal imaging of a transgenic NMD reporter revealed that arrhythmic Clock mutants exhibited stronger NMD activity in PDF-expressing neurons than wild-type. We further found that hypomorphic mutations in Suppressor with morphogenetic effect on genitalia 5 (Smg5) or Smg6 impaired circadian behaviors. These NMD mutants normally developed PDF-expressing clock neurons and displayed daily oscillations in the transcript levels of core clock genes. By contrast, the loss of Smg5 or Smg6 function affected the relative transcript levels of cAMP response element-binding protein B (CrebB) in an isoform-specific manner. Moreover, the overexpression of a transcriptional repressor form of CrebB rescued free-running locomotor rhythms in Smg5-depleted flies. These data demonstrate that CrebB is a rate-limiting substrate of the genetic NMD pathway important for the behavioral output of circadian clocks in Drosophila.
When generating spectrum-compatible artificial ground motion in engineering practices, the effect of the variation in fitting parameters on the distribution of the peak ground displacement (PGD) has not yet drawn enough attention. In this study, a method for simulating ground motion matching for multiple targets is developed. In this method, a frequency-dependent amplitude envelope function with statistical parameters is introduced to simulate the nonstationarity of the frequency in earthquake ground motion. Then, several groups of time-history acceleration with different temporal and spectral nonstationarities were generated to analyze the effect of nonstationary parameter variations on the distribution of PGD. The following conclusions are drawn from the results: (1) In the simulation of spectrum-compatible artificial ground motion, if the acceleration time-history is generated with random initial phases, the corresponding PGD distribution is quite discrete and an uncertain number of PGD values lower than the limit value are observed. Nevertheless, the mean values of PGD always meet the requirement in every group. (2) If the nonstationary frequencies of the ground motion are taken into account when fitting the target spectrum, the corresponding PGD values will increase. A correlation analysis shows that the change in the mean and the dispersion values, from before the frequencies are controlled to after, correlates with the modal parameters of the predominant frequencies. (3) Extending the maximum period of the target spectrum will increase the corresponding PGD value and, simultaneously, decrease the PGD dispersion. Finally, in order to control the PGD effectively, the ground motion simulation method suggested in this study was revised to target a specified PGD. This novel method can generate ground motion that satisfies not only the required precision of the target spectrum, peak ground acceleration (PGA), and nonstationarity characteristics of the ground motion but also meets the required limit of the PGD, improving engineering practices.
Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effects of consecutive whole body vibration through heel raise posture on the center of pressure and electromyography of anterior tibial muscle, lateral gastrocnemius and soleus muscles during single-leg stance. Method: The subjects of this study included 30 healthy males in their 20's, with the following inclusion criteria: no history of orthopaedic medical history, no participation in regular exercises, no history of whole body vibration exercise, and right leg being the dominant leg. The experimental procedure involved pretreatment measurement of eye open single-leg stance, application of whole body vibration for 30 seconds, post-treatment measurement (3 measurements in total). Static and dynamic movements have been measured over 2 separate experiments, with 72 hours gap between the experiments. Static movement involved maintaining single-leg heel raise posture for 30 seconds while applying whole body vibration, and dynamic movement involved heel raise (15 repetitions over 30 seconds) while applying whole body vibration. The strength of applied whole body vibration was 35 Hz frequency and 2~4 mm amplitude. Results: As the single-leg posture after static heel raise posture, mediolateral velocity of the center of pressure at post 2 and post 3 were significantly reduced compared to the pre-treatment measurement. In addition, the percentage for reference voluntary contraction in anterior tibial muscle and soleus and median frequency at anterior tibial muscle and lateral gastrocnemius muscle at post 3 were significantly decreased compared to the pre-treatment value. As the single-leg posture after dynamic heel raise posture, the mediolateral 95% edge frequency of the center of pressure and median frequency at anterior tibial muscle, lateral gastrocnemius muscle, and soleus muscle at post 3 were significantly reduced compared to the pre-treatment value. Conclusion: Acute whole body vibration via static and dynamic heel raise posture have positive effect on mediolateral posture control during single-leg stance.

In this study, the effect of Symmetry Breaking was compared according to the equivalent ratio condition and the number of nozzles where combustion instability occurs in an annular combustor. Generally, due to the relatively short combustor length, a longitudinal instability was less likely to occur in the annular combustor, but the combustion instability sometimes happens when ducts such as transition piece in gas turbine power station are present. In this case, due to the duct, only the longitudinal instability mode is observed. The characteristics of Symmetry Breaking were investigated according to the number of five lean nozzles and the equivalent ratio combination, and as the equivalent ratio decreased, the effect of Symmetry Breaking rapidly occurred, and the instability was dramatically disappeared and the amplitude was greatly reduced. In addition, it was confirmed that as the number of lean nozzles increased, a phenomenon such as a reduction in the equivalent ratio appeared.

In this paper, we propose a packet loss concealment (PLC) algorithm using pitch harmonic motion prediction and adaptive signal amplitude prediction and. The spectral motion prediction method divides the spectral motion of the previous usable frame into predetermined sub-bands to predict and restore the motion of the lost signal. In the proposed algorithm, the speech signal is classified into voiced and unvoiced sounds. In the case of voiced sounds, it is further divided into pitch harmonics using the pitch frequency to predict and restore the pitch harmonic motion of the lost frame, and for the unvoiced sound, the lost frame is restored using the spectral motion prediction method. When the continuous loss of speech frames occurs, a method of adjusting the gain using the least mean square (LMS) predictor is proposed. The performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated through the objective evaluation method, PESQ (Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality) and was showed MOS 0.1 improvement over the conventional method.
This paper proposes the detection algorithm for switch open fault of asymmetric 6-phase PMSM based on stationary reference frame dq-axis currents. In this paper, target motor has an asymmetric structure in which two upper three windings have an electrical phase difference of 30° and a neutral point is separated. As a result, dual 3-phase PWM inverters and the detection techniques due to open failures of switch are definitely required. In this paper, the dual dq-axis current control method is used for driving the asymmetric 6-phase PMSM and the open fault switch should be detected by using variable all pass filter and low pass filter in order to detect the current amplitude. The effectiveness and usefulness of the proposed method is verified by several experiments.
