  • This paper presents the critical speed analysis of geogrid-reinforced rail roadbeds on soft soil. A rail roadbed on soft ground must be designed to avoid intolerable stress in the underlying soil and to give sufficient support for the rail system. At high speeds, the deformation of rail systems will gain dynamic amplification, and reach excessive values as a certain speed, here termed critical speed is approached. The elastic Winkler foundation model was used to predict the critical speed of geogrid-reinforced rail roadbeds on soft soil and the model properties were determined by the in-situ cyclic plate load test. Based on the parametric study of elastic beam on Winkler foundation model, the critical speed increase with the increase of the flexural risidity of subgrade EI and the stiffness coefficient of Winkler foundation k. From the in-situ cyclic load tests and analysis of elastic beam on Winkler foundation model, the critical speed increase with increase in number of reinforced layer and non-dimensional value for depth of first geogrid layers and the thickness of reinforced rail roadbed u/d.

  • The c-erbB2/neu oncogene (alias HER2, NEU) encoding a tyrosine kinase receptor protein, the overexpression of which correlates with a more rapid progression and a worse prognosis in human breast cancer [1]. Otherwise, this gene is still poorly investigated in veterinary oncology [2,3]. To gain insight into the patterns of c-erbB2/neu status in canine mammary tumor, we constructed one such mammary tumor tissue microarray (TMA) from 60 tumors from our lab. This enabled the amplification of c-erbB2/neu oncogene of all 60 tumors to be simultaneously analyzed by chromogenic in situ hybridization (CISH). The aim of this study was to evaluate status of c-erbB2/neu oncogene in canine mammary tumors and to correlate this status with the differentiation grade of neoplasm. (omitted)

  • One of the stable thin film transistor fabricated by cadmium suifide with the anodized aluminium oxide as gate material. The principle of the operation for the device is based on the control mechanism of injected majority carricrs to the wide band gap semiconductor, that is cadmium sulfide, by means of the function of the gate control. The fabricated device constructed by evaporating CdS layer in the form of microcrystalline on the oxided thin film characterized by ea, 80 as voltage amplification factor, 1/100 mho as transconductance, 8 kohm as dynamic output resistance, furthermore gain band width products is about 15 MHz.

  • A CMOS power amplifier for IMT-2000 is designed with 0.25-${\mu}m$ CMOS technology. This amplifier circuits consist of two cascode stages. Used cascode structure has good reverse isolation. These amplifier circuits consist of two stages which are driver stage and power amplification stage. The designed power amplifier is simulated with ADS using 0.25-${\mu}m$ CMOS library at 3.3 V power supply. Simulation results indicate that the amplifier has a PAE of 39 % and power gain of 24 dBm at 1.95 GHz.

Molecular Detection of Catabolic Genes for Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in the Reed Rhizosphere of Sunchon Bay

  • This study focused on detecting catabolic genes for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) distributed in the reed rhizosphere of Sunchon Bay, Korea. These marsh and mud environments were severely affected by human activities, including agriculture and fisheries. Our previous study on microbial roles in natural decontamination displayed the possibility that PAH-degrading bacteria, such as Achromobacter sp., Alcaligenes sp., Burkholderia sp. and Pseudomonas sp. play an important decontamination role in a reed rhizosphere. In order to gain further fundamental knowledge on the natural decontamination process, catabolic genes for PAH metabolism were investigated through PCR amplification of dioxygenase genes using soil genomic DNA and sequencing. Comparative analysis of predicted amino acid sequences from 50 randomly selected dioxygenase clones capable of hydroxylating inactivated aromatic nuclei indicated that these were divided into three groups, two of which might be originated from PAH-degrading bacteria. Amino acid sequences of each dioxygenase clone were a part of the genes encoding enzymes for initial catabolism of naphthalene, phenanthrene, or pyrene that might be originated from bacteria in the reed rhizosphere of Sunchon Bay.

The Design of a 0.15 ps High Resolution Time-to-Digital Converter

  • This research outlines the design of a HR-TDC (High Resolution Time-to-Digital Converter) for high data rate communication systems using a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. The coarse-fine architecture has been adopted to improve the resolution of the TDC. A two-stage vernier time amplifier (2S-VTA) was used to amplify the time residue, and the gain of the 2S-VTA was larger than 64. The error during time amplification was compensated using two FTDCs (Fine-TDC) with their outputs. The resolution of the HR-TDC was 0.15 ps with a 12-bit output and the power consumption was 4.32 mW with a 1.8-V supply voltage.

  • This paper is to propose a concept and performance of the gravity engine which could extract energy from sea or river as a clean and renewable and sustainable power, the tidal or hydro-power. The vertical motion of the buoyancy cylinder of the present gravity engine is converted to the mechanical work directly without any hydraulic loss. The increased gravity potential during high tide is harnessed proportional to the length of the buoyancy cylinder times tidal height which is greater than the conventional tidal power using water mill. This energy amplification results from the net energy gain between the resource energy and the imposed energy to extract water out of the buoyancy cylinder. Its efficiency is higher than the conventional water mill due to its direct mechanical conversion.

  • 광음향 변조기를 사용하여 전방산란 이중광속 LDV를 구성하고 유리관 속을 흐르는 물의 방향을 조사하였다. 하나의 레이저 빔을 40MHz로 변조시킬 때 회절된 빔의 차수 및 유체의 방향에 따라서 이동된 Doppler 신호의 주파수를 측정함으로써 유체의 방향을 결정하였다. 또한 LDV 장치의 검출기에서 검출된 고주파 신호를 증폭하기 위하여 대역폭이 0-300MHz이고 이득이 38dB인 증폭회로를 설계 제작하였다.

좁은 선폭을 갖는 파장가변 연속파 레이저의 펄스형 증폭을 위한 사중경로 색소 레이저 증폭기 (Four-pass dye laser amplifier for the direct pulsed amplification of a tunable narrow-bandwidth continuous-wave laser)

  • 본 연구에서는 개념적으로 기생 발진을 비롯한 증폭기의 오동작 가능성을 최소화하고 좁은 선폭의 연속파 레이저를 펄스 증폭하기 위한 목적으로 새로운 구조를 갖는 사중경로 색소 레이저 증폭기를 제안하고 실험적으로 구현하였다. 펌핑 레이저의 펄스 에너지가 5.6 mJ이고 연속파 레이저의 입력 강도 100 mW일 때, 사중경로 증폭기는 약 130 MHz(FWHM)의 선폭과 1.5 mJ의 에너지를 갖는 레이저 펄스를 출력하였으며, 이는 약 2$\times$106 이상의 높은 증폭 이득과 27%의 에너지 효율에 해당하는 것이다. 사중경로 증폭기 내에 회절격자를 사용하면, 파장 선택 소자가 없는 보통의 증폭기와 비교할 때 총 출력 에너지가 4% 정도 증가됨과 동시에 ASE가 차지하는 비율이 10배 이상 감소하여, 총 출력 빔에 대해 ASE 에너지가 1.5% 이하로 억제된다.

Deup1 Expression Interferes with Multiciliated Differentiation

  • A recent study revealed that the loss of Deup1 expression does not affect either centriole amplification or multicilia formation. Therefore, the deuterosome per se is not a platform for amplification of centrioles. In this study, we examine whether gain-of-function of Deup1 affects the development of multiciliated ependymal cells. Our time-lapse study reveals that deuterosomes with an average diameter of 300 nm have two different fates during ependymal differentiation. In the first instance, deuterosomes are scattered and gradually disappear as cells become multiciliated. In the second instance, deuterosomes self-organize into a larger aggregate, called a deuterosome cluster (DC). Unlike scattered deuterosomes, DCs possess centriole components primarily within their large structure. A characteristic of DC-containing cells is that they tend to become primary ciliated rather than multiciliated. Our in utero electroporation study shows that DCs in ependymal tissue are mostly observed at early postnatal stages, but are scarce at late postnatal stages, suggesting the presence of DC antagonists within the differentiating cells. Importantly, from our bead flow assay, ectopic expression of Deup1 significantly impairs cerebrospinal fluid flow. Furthermore, we show that expression of mouse Deup1 in Xenopus embryos has an inhibitory effect on differentiation of multiciliated cells in the epidermis. Taken together, we conclude that the DC formation of Deup1 in multiciliated cells inhibits production of multiple centrioles.
