  • Reproductive and life history patterns of marine amphipods are influenced by a variety of biotic and abiotic factors. Those factors may vary on local scales or along geographic patterns and result local or geographic variations in reproduction and life history. Although many studies in life history of amphipods were carried out at various habitats, limited information on the life history and reproduction at a shallow sandy shore 〈 1 m depth is available (Bear and Moore, 1996). 통영 장평리 잘피밭에 출현하는 복섬(Takifugu niphobles)의 위내용물 조성 (Diet composition of grass puffer, Takifugu niphobles in the eelgrass bed of Jangpyeong-ri, Tongyeong)

  • The diet composition of Takifugu niphobles was studied with 587 specimens collected in the eelgrass bed of Jangpyeong-ri, Tongyeong, Korea, using a seine net, monthly from May 2016 to April 2017. The standard length (SL) of the specimens ranged from 0.7 to 9.0 cm. The stomach contents analysis indicated that T. niphobles consumed mainly amphipods (%IRI: 91.0 %). In addition, T. niphobles fed on small quantities of copepods, polychaetes, insects, bivalves and crabs. T. niphobles consumed mainly amphipods over all size class. Smaller individuals (less than 4 cm SL) fed mainly on amphipods and copepods. The proportion of copepods decreased, as body size increased, whereas the consumption of polychaetes increased gradually. The seasonal variation in the diet composition of T. niphobles was significant. Amphipods were most common prey in all seasons. Copepods decreased from summer to spring gradually whereas the consumption of polychaetes increased in autumn.

  • 본 연구는 여름철 낙동강 하구역 해빈 쇄파대에서 누치 유어의 출현양상, 위내용물 조성, 체장과 주야간 위내용물 조성의 차이를 조사하였다. 시료는 2014년 주야간에 낙동강 하구역 해빈 쇄파대의 2개 정점에서 지인망으로 8월에 채집된 67개체를 이용하였다. 여기서 채집된 개체의 체장은 5.1에서 9.7 cm의 범위를 보였다. 누치는 단각류를 주로 섭식하는 육식성으로 어류였으며, 그 외 어류와 갯지렁이류 그리고 새우류 등을 부가적으로 섭식하였다. 누치는 크기에 따라 식성변화를 보여, 가장 작은 크기군(< 6.4 cm SL)의 개체들은 단각류를 주로 섭식하였던 반면, 체장이 증가할수록 단각류 대신 어류의 비중이 증가하였다. 주야에 따라서는 주간에는 단각류와 갯지렁이류를 주로 섭식하였고, 야간에는 어류를 주로 섭식하였다

서해연안 조간대에 서식하는 비늘흰발망둑, Acanthogobius luridus의 식성 (Feeding Habits of Acanthogobius luridus Inhabiting the Intertidal Zone of the Western Coast of Korea)

  • 조간대에서 서식하는 비늘흰발망둑의 섭식 생태를 파악하여 연안 생물 군집의 먹이 사슬에 관한 기초 지식을 얻고자, 1996년 7월부터 1997년 6월까지 충남 서천군 서면 도둔리에서 매월 1회씩 비늘흰발망둑을 채집하여 위 내용물 분석을 통해 섭식 생태를 조사하였다. 위 만복도는 하루 중 오전과 오후에 각각 한 차례식 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 비늘흰발망둑(1.2~5.9cm SL)의 주요 먹이생물은 십각류(유영류 유생, 젓새우, 보리새우 및 보행류 유생), 단각류(카프렐라류, 옆새우류 및 하이페리아류), 요각류(Acartia sp., Calanus sinicus, Corycaeus affinis 및 Microsetella sp.) 등으로 식성이 육식성이었다. 그 외 등각류, 만각류 유생, 다모류 유생 및 구각류 등이 소량씩 위 내용물 중에서 발견되었다. 비늘흰발망둑이 성장함에 따라 먹이생물의 조성비가 점차 변하였다. 체장이 작은 비늘흰발망둑은 요각류, 십각류 및 단각류 순으로 먹었으나, 체장이 증가하면서 요각류의 비율은 점차 낮아진 반면, 십각류와 단각류가 위 내용물 중 차지하는 비율은 점차 증가하였다.

Feeding ecology of three tonguefishes, genus Cynoglossus (Cynoglossidae) in the Seto Inland Sea, Japan

  • Feeding ecology was compared among the three tonguefishes Cynoglossus abbreviatus, C. joyneri and C. robustus, collected from Seto Inland Sea, Japan, from June 2000 to May 2001. They are benthivores, consuming mainly gammarid amphipods, shrimps, crabs, gastropods, bivalves and ophiuroids. C. abbreviatus consumed greater proportions of ophiuroids whereas C. joyneri and C. robustus ate more amphipods and shrimps. While C. abbreviatus consumed mostly ophiuroids in all size classes, the diets of C. joyneri and C. robustus showed ontogenetic changes in feeding habits; smaller individuals of C. joyneri and C. robustus consumed gammarid amphipods, whereas larger C. joyneri ate shrimps and gastropods, and larger C. robustus fed mainly on gastropods, crabs, bivalves and polychaetes. Cluster analysis based on diet similarities emphasized that the three Cynoglossus species could be categorized on a size-related basis into three feeding groups: smaller C. joyneri and C. rubustus (<25 cm TL) could be classified as group A, and the larger of them (>25 cm TL) as group B, whereas C. abbreviatus was categorized as group C. This means that some degree of resource partitioning can occur among the three Cynoglossus species. The seasonal changes in the diets were also significant for the three Cynoglossus species.

진해만 잠도 주변해역에서 서식하는 방류산 볼락 (Sebastes inermis)의 식성 (Feeding Habits of Released Black Rockfish, Sebastes inermis, in Coastal Waters off Jam Island, Jinhae Bay, Korea)

  • Feeding habits of released Sebastes inermis obtained in daily and monthly collections from August 2007 to December 2007 in coastal waters off Jam Island in Jinhae Bay, Korea were assessed. A total 151 individuals of S. inermis (6.3-9.7 cm TL) were recaptured during the study period. Initial food intake of released S. inermis occurred within three days of released. Stomach content index increased with time, however, the percentage of stomachs devoid of contents decreased. Sebastes inermis mainly consumed gammarid and caprellid amphipods, gastropods and mysids. Diet also included small quantities of bivalves, shrimps, copepods and ostracods. Amphipods were mainly consumed at all size groups and consumption of gastropods, bivalves and shrimps increased with increasing fish size.

  • The feeding habits of the redbanded searobin Lepidotrigla guentheri were studied using 186 specimens collected from September to November, 2006, in the coastal waters off Gori, Korea. The sizes of L. guentheri ranged from 7.1 to 16.7 cm total length(TL). L. guentheri is a bottom-feeding carnivore that consumes mainly shrimp, especially Leptochela sydniensis, amphipods, and crabs. Its diet also includes small quantities of stomatopods, mysids, cumaceans, euphausiids, polychaetes, and copepods. Our feeding-strategy graphical method reveled that L. guentheri is a specialized feeder, with a narrow niche width. L. guentheri mainly consumed shrimp of all size classes and did not show significant ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. Smaller individuals(7-11 cm TL) secondly consumed amphipods, with the portion of amphipods in the total diet decreasing as body size increased. Prey size increased significantly as the fish grew in size.

  • 오스트레일리아의 Queensland에 위치한 Cockle Bay의 해초지에서 채집된 Sillago maculata의 식성을 조사하였다. S. maculata (0.5~9.5 cm SL)의 주요 먹이생물은 단각류에 속하는 옆새우류, 게류 및 요각류였으며, 그 외 갯지렁이류, 새우류, 어류, 등각류, 쿠마류 등이 소량씩 위내용물 중에서 발견되었다. S. maculata은 성장함에 따라 먹이생물의 조성이 점차 변하였다. 체장이 작은 개체는 요각류, 게의 유생, 옆새우류를 주로 먹었으나, 체장이 증가하면서 요각류 및 게 유생의 비율은 점차 낮아진 반면, 갯지렁이류 및 어류가 차지하는 비율은 증가하였다. 한편 옆새우류는 조사된 모든 크기에서 가장 선호하는 먹이생물이었다.

태안 주변해역에 출현하는 날돛양태(Callionymus beniteguri)의 식성 (Feeding Habits of Whitespotted Dragonet Callionymus beniteguri in the Coastal Waters off Taean, Korea)

  • Specimens of Callionymus beniteguri (n=89) were collected from the waters off the coast of Taean, Korea, between April 2008 and January 2009, and their feeding behavior was observed. C. beniteguri (4.0-15.5 cm SL) was found to be a bottom-feeding carnivore that primarily preyed on gammarid amphipods, and secondarily consumed polychaetes but also ingested bivalves, shrimps, cumaceans, and sea urchins. Six additional minor prey groups also contributed to its diet, but the index of relative importance (IRI) for these groups was relatively low (<1.0). C. beniteguri exhibited size-related dietary changes. Small individuals (<10 cm SL) mainly consumed amphipods. As fish size increased, amphipods tended to decline in IRI, while the contributions of bivalves, sea urchins, and polychaetes became more important.

남해안 동대만 잘피밭에서 서식하는 해마(Hippocampus coronatus)의 출현량 및 먹이습성 (Abundances and feeding habits of Hippocampus coronatus in an eelgrass (Zostera marina) bed of Dongdae Bay, Korea)

  • A total of 164 individuals of Hippocampus coronatus were collected from an eelgrass bed in Dongdae Bay, Korea from September 2006 to August 2007. The number of individuals of H. coronatus was higher in September 2006. The size of H. coronatus ranged from 2.4 to 9.3cm in height (Ht), and most of individuals were small size below 5cm (Ht). H. coronatus was a carnivore which consumed mainly gammarid amphipods and copepods. Its diets also included a small amount ofmysids, ostracods, brachiopods, caprellid amphipods, bathynellaceas, isopods, tanaids, and ascothoracids. The diets of H. coronatus underwent size-related changes; smaller individuals consumed copepods, while larger individuals ate gammarid amphipods and mysids. The dietary breadth index of H. coronatus was increased with increasing of their size.
