The modified QuEChERS method was evaluated for rapid determination of pesticide residues in spinach by gas chromatography-nitrogen phosphorous detector (NPD) and electron capture detector (ECD). Fifty GC-amenable pesticides which were most frequently detected in monitoring were selected in the current study. Matrix-matched calibration was performed. The detector response for all pesticides was linear with determination coefficients higher than 0.995. LODs for most compounds ranged between 0.001 and 0.1 ug/g, and about 90% of the compounds had LODs of less than 0.05 ug/g. LOQs ranged from 0.001 to 0.32 ug/g, which were well below the MRLs permitted for most of pesticides. In the majority of cases, the recoveries (80-120%) and relative standard deviations (RSDs) (less than 20%) were within acceptable levels except for dichlorvos, propamocarb, chlorothalonil, dichlofluanid, cyhalothrin and fenvalerate. Also, this method which is applied to routine samples showed good results when comparing with traditional multi-residue method.
The study aimed to evaluate the potential effects of feeding with phytase transgenic corn (PTC) on organ weight, serum biochemical parameters and nutrient digestibility, and to determine the fate of the transgenic DNA in laying hens. A total of 144 50-week-old laying hens were grouped randomly into 2 treatments, with 8 replicates per treatment and 9 hens per replicate. Each treatment group of hens was fed with diets containing 62.4% non-transgenic conventional corn (CC) or PTC for 16 weeks. The phytase activity for CC was 37 FTU/kg of DM, whereas the phytase activity for PTC was 8,980 FTU/kg of DM. We observed that feeding PTC to laying hens had no adverse effect on organ weight or serum biochemical parameters (p>0.05). A fragment of a poultry-specific ovalbumin gene (ov) was amplified from all tissues of hens showing that the DNA preparations were amenable to PCR amplification. Neither the corn-specific invertase gene (ivr) nor the transgenic phyA2 gene was detected in the breast muscle, leg muscle, ovary, oviduct and eggs. The digestibility data revealed no significant differences between the hens that received the CC- and PTC-based diets in the digestibility of DM, energy, nitrogen and calcium (p>0.05). Phosphorus digestibility of hens fed the PTC-based diet was greater than that of hens fed the CC-based diet (58.03% vs 47.42%, p<0.01). Based on these results, it was concluded that the PTC had no deleterious effects on the organ weight or serum biochemical parameters of the laying hens. No recombinant phyA2 gene was detected in muscle tissues and reproductive organs of laying hens. The novel plant phytase was efficacious in improving the phosphorus digestibility of laying hens.

The aim of this study is to analyze tthe pattern of compacted area and the distribution characteristics in one-person household. Through ArcGis, we collect the basic data and classify the compact area in accordance with the pattern employing Ward method out of cluster analysis. The main results are found as follows; First, the station sphere type is located around Seomyun and Nampo-dong, which are the main CBD( Central Business District) This type must be essentially considered in residential plan for one-person household location. Second, the district oriented type is located around the subway and it has relatively better residential facilities and environments. Third, it is found that the younger worker including students resided in one room and villa in the type around university. Forth, the foreign workers and domestic workers in small and medium factory resided in the factory centered type which is far from the station sphere. Lastly, it is dormitory type which is isolated from the CBD, and insteadly amenable and well natural environment area, but students and workers in this area where there are lacking life-related facilities and aside from accessibilities feel uncomfortable.
Gerber (Gerbera hybrida) is a valuable ornamental species grown as a potted plant and cut flowers. However, genetic variability within the gerbera genus is very limited. So it is absolutely needed to introduce and widen genetic resources into gerbera lines by genetic transformation. For the purpose, 18 Korean gerbera lines were screened to establish Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation procedure. In an experiment to select Korean gerbera lines which are amenable to Agrobacterium-inoculation, 12 lines turned out to be positive in Agrobacterium-inoculation. More callus were produced from BA 2ppm, Zeatin 2ppm, IAA 0.2ppm in pre-culture and regeneration medium (2X media) but there was no difference in the frequency of GUS expression rate. In another experiment to find out optimal condition for highly efficient Agrobacterium-inoculation, petiole and leaf explants have been treated with four different pre-culture periods, two different co-culture periods and two different Agrobacterium strains. As a result, high GUS expression has been showed from petiole and leaf explants treated no pre-culture period with LBA4404 Agrobacterium tumerfaciens, 5 day co-culture period and dipping treatment.
Soil pollution by heavy metals has become a significant environmental concern due to a variety of human activities. Specially toxicity caused by excessive mercury exposure is now being recognized as a widespread environmental problem and is continuing to attract a great deal of public concerns. The earthworms are very important animals that aerate the soil with their burrowing action and enrich the soil by decomposing organic matters. Especially the earthworm Eisenia fetida is routinely used in ecotoxicological studies. The levels of DNA damage in earthworms treated with HgCl2 and ionizing radiation were investigated in this study. Genotoxic effects were evaluated in the earthworm's coelomocytes using the comet assay (Single Cell Gel Electrophoresis; SCGE). The results showed that the mercury chloride and radiation were responsible for the genotoxic effects on earthworms. The level of DNA damage significantly increased after the treatment of mercury chloride combined with ionizing radiation. The combined treatment of $HgCl_2$ and ionizing radiation had a greater genotoxicity. This study is amenable to further study such as enzyme activation assay.
Purpose: Anatomical repair of massive rotator cuff tear has been technically challenging because of medial retraction, muscle atrophy and fatty degeneration. Among several treatment options for massive rotator cuff tear, we reviewed rotator cuff repairs and investigated modalities for improvement of clinical outcomes, decreasing the re-tear rate, and increasing healing. Materials and Methods: Patient-related factors and rotator cuff-related factors were the two major groups of factors we considered when choosing a treatment plan. Results: Mobilization of a massive rotator cuff tear was increased by soft tissue release and by the interval slide technique. After meticulous soft tissue release, anatomical repair could be achieved. If the injury was not amenable to anatomical repair, alternative treatment options such as partial repair, the margin convergence technique and augmentation with a tenotomized biceps tendon were considered. Many reports of massive rotator cuff repair demonstrated satisfactory clinical outcomes, decreased pain, recovery of shoulder functions, and increases in muscle strength. However, the re-tear rate had been reported to be relatively high in long-term follow-up. Conclusion: Despite a high re-tear rate after massive rotator cuff repair, a better understanding of the pathogenesis, progression and clinical symptoms of massive rotator cuff tear and improved surgical materials and techniques will lead to satisfactory clinical outcomes.

In recent years two reflection methods, i.e. GPR and seismic Impact-Echo, are usually performed to obtain the information about tunnel lining structures composed of concrete lining, shotcrete, water barrier, and voids at the back of lining. However, they do not lead to a desirable resolution sufficient for the inspection of tunnel safety, due to many problems of interest including primarily (1) inner thin layers of lining structure itself in comparison with the wavelength of source wavelets, (2) dominant unwanted surface wave arrivals, (3) inadequate measuring strategy. In this sense, seismic physical modeling is a useful tool, with the use of the full information about the known physical model, to handle such problems, especially to study problems of wave propagation in such fine structures that are not amenable to theory and field works as well. Thus, this paper deals with various results of seismic physical modeling to enable to show a possibility of detecting the inner layer boundaries of tunnel lining structures. To this end, a physical model analogous to a lining structure was built up, measured and processed in the same way as performed in regular reflection surveys. The evaluated seismic section gives a clear picture of the lining structure, that will open up more consistent direction of research into the development of an efficient measuring and processing technology.

In the present work, the sequencing batch reactor process of two-sludge type was optimized. The effects of solid retention time, hydraulic retention time, length of biosorption phase and temperature variation were investigated, respectively. In the T-N removal, the long solid retention time was favored. It was speculated that SCOD biosorption efficiency was higher in long solid retention time than in short solid retention time. In the comparison of hydraulic retention time, the removal efficiency of $NH_4^+-N$ and T-N were almost same in all applied hydraulic retention times which were 8 hr, 10 hr and 15 hr. It was observed that there was no need to have the hydraulic retention time more than 20 min in biosorption phase for enhancement of T-N removal efficiency. An experimental comparison of removal efficiencies with different temperature conditions was carried out. Decrease of temperature didn't affect the performance of the process, however, phosphorus removal efficiency was a little higher at low temperature than high temperature. Consequently, the process developed in this study was much amenable to wastewater treatment which was conducted in the low temperature and high loading rate.

Objective : Metastatic brain tumors (MBTs) often present with intracerebral hemorrhage. Although Gamma Knife surgery (GKS) is a valid treatment option for hemorrhagic MBTs, its efficacy is unclear. To achieve oncologic control and reduce radiation toxicity, we used a radiosurgical targeting technique that confines the tumor core within the hematoma when performing GKS in patients with such tumors. We reviewed our experience in this endeavor, focusing on local tumor control and treatment-associated morbidities. Methods : From 2007 to 2014, 13 patients with hemorrhagic MBTs were treated via GKS using our targeting technique. The median marginal dose prescribed was 23 Gy (range, 20-25). GKS was performed approximately 2 weeks after tumor bleeding to allow the patient's condition to stabilize. Results : The primary sites of the MBTs included the liver (n=7), lung (n=2), kidney (n=1), and stomach (n=1); in two cases, the primary tumor was a melanoma. The mean tumor volume was $4.00cm^3$ (range, 0.74-11.0). The mean overall survival duration after GKS was 12.5 months (range, 3-29), and three patients are still alive at the time of the review. The local tumor control rate was 92% (tumor disappearance 23%, tumor regression 46%, and stable disease 23%). There was one (8%) instance of local recurrence, which occurred 11 months after GKS in the solid portion of the tumor. No GKS-related complications were observed. Conclusion : Our experience shows that GKS performed in conjunction with our targeting technique safely and effectively treats hemorrhagic MBTs. The success of this technique may reflect the presence of scattered metastatic tumor cells in the hematoma that do not proliferate owing to the inadequate microenvironment of the hematoma. We suggest that GKS can be a useful treatment option for patients with hemorrhagic MBTs that are not amenable to surgery.
Consolidation and permeability are major engineering properties of soil. In clay, coefficient of permeability and consolidation can be calculated by incremental loading consolidation test. However, it is known that the incremental loading test has several deficiencies including long testing time, non-uniform stress state, very soft clay and problem of back pressure saturation. Specially, it is not performed with horizontal consolidation test. Several methods have been proposed for obtaining reliable values of $C_v$. Among these, the square root of time-fitting method proposed by Taylor(1948) and logarithm of time-fitting method, also called Casagrande's method, are used extensively in soil engineering practice. But these methods are not amenable for the absence of initial linear portion and have the difficulties involved in distinguishing secondary compression from primary compression. Rowecell consolidation tests were carried out in this study with different trimming axis and sample size. The results were compared with those of other methods; Casagrande,$Taylor,\; Casagrande,\; Hyperbolic,\; \delta/t-logt$. From the results, we explained a relationship between horizontal coefficient of permeability and void ratio was obtained. Finally, the directly measured horizontal coefficient of permeability obtained by using the Rowecell was compared with the permeability derived indirectly from the consolidation test result.
