Nanodispersion-Strengthened Metallic Materials

  • Dispersions of non-soluble ceramic particles in a metallic matrix can enhance the strength and heat resistance of materials. With the advent of mechanical alloying it became possible to put the theoretical concept into practice by incorporating very fine particles in a flirty uniform distribution into often oxidation- and corrosion- resistant metal matrices. e.g. superalloys. The present paper will give an overview about the mechanical alloying technique as a dry, high energy ball milling process for producing composite metal powders with a fine controlled microstructure. The common way is milling of a mixture of metallic and nonmetallic powders (e.g. oxides. carbides, nitrides, borides) in a high energy ball mill. The heavy mechanical deformation during milling causes also fracture of the ceramic particles to be distributed homogeneously by further milling. The mechanisms of the process are described. To obtain a homogeneous distribution of nano-sized dispersoids in a more ductile matrix (e.g. aluminium-or copper based alloys) a reaction milling is suitable. Dispersoid can be formed in a solid state reaction by introducing materials that react with the matrix either during milling or during a subsequent heat treatment. The pre-conditions for obtaining high quality materials, which require a homogeneous distribution of small dis-persoids, are: milling behaviour of the ductile phase (Al, Cu) will be improved by the additives (e.g. graphite), homogeneous introduction of the additives into the granules is possible and the additive reacts with the matrix or an alloying element to form hard particles that are inert with respect to the matrix also at elevated temperatures. The mechanism of the in-situ formation of dispersoids is described using copper-based alloys as an example. A comparison between the in-situ formation of dispersoids (TiC) in the copper matrix and the milling of Cu-TiC mixtures is given with respect to the microstructure and properties, obtained.

  • 나노 크기의 배향성을 갖는 구조물의 제작은 자연에 존재하는 여러 가지 형상의 모방을 가능하게 한다. 고분자는 가격이 매우 저렴하며 합성과 가공 그리고 그 구조가 잘 알려져 있는 장점을 갖고 있어 필름(film)의 표면에 이러한 나노 구조물을 제작하고 나노 구조의 특성을 발현하는데 손쉽게 활용할 수 있는 재료이다. 나노 구조물을 제작하는 방법 중 양극산화를 통하여 제작한 다공성 알루미나 템플레이트(porous alumina template)는 매우 규칙적으로 정렬되어 있고 제어하는 공정이 비교적 쉽고 경제적이기 때문에 이를 이용한 연구가 매우 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 본 총설에서는 양극산화 알루미나 템플레이트의 제작과 이를 이용한 나노 구조 고분자 필름의 제작을 설명하고 이러한 나노 구조 필름의 응용범위 및 응용에 필요한 특성에 대하여 기술하였다.

  • The radiopacity of glass ionomer cements is quite variable. The use of a poorly radiopaque material as a base under other restorative materials can mislead the dentist to a diagnosis of recurrent decay. This study investigates the radiopacity of these materials and proposes a minimal radiopacity under which a material should not be used as a base or liner. It is important to determine the radiopacity of glass ionomer dental materials so that the clinician can appreciate the type of restorative materials used when radiographically evaluation the possibility of recurrent dental caries. In this study, radiopacity of Vitrement and Chemfil was compared with that of Cavalite, Miracle mix and polycarboxylate cement. Tooth model of artificial cavity preparation for diagnosis of recurrent caries was omitted. Radiopacity of each material was measured using relatives between thickness and radiopacity of Aluminium step wedge. The results were as follows : 1. Radiopacity of Vitrement was some higher than enamel. 2. Chemfil, restorative glass ionomer, was less radiopaque than enamel. 3. In order of higher radiopacity than enamel, Miracle mix was highest and was followed by polycarboxylate cement, Cavalite and Vitremer. 4. Vitremer, the Glass Ionomer Cement, is useful to detection of recurrent caries, because it is slightly higher radiopaque than enamel. So, it is suitable for restorative material and luting cement.

군소 추출색소를 이용한 견직물의 염색성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Dyeing of Silk Fabrics Treated with Aplysia kurodai Extract)

  • This study intends to identify applicability of natural dye extracted from Aplysia kurodai, aiming to standardization of Aplysia kurodai natural dyeing through scientific validation by analyzing characteristics of pigment elements to review dyeability, colorfastness and antibacterial activity. Such material as silk fabrics that is animal fiber were used for this purpose, and derived following summarized results. UV/VIS spectrum analysis on the pigment of Aplysia kurodai that was extracted from purple gland showed that maximum absorbtion was near 540 nm. The silk fabric optimal dyeing can be achieved at a temperature of $55^{\circ}C$ with a colorant concentration of 5%. Dyed at $55^{\circ}C$ with interval of 10~90 minutes for identifying dye uptake over time to observed slow increase of dye uptake over time, and equilibrium occurred at 50 minutes. For dye uptake according to pH, while dye uptake was superior in acidity, it decreased rapidly in a base after pH 7. For color changes according to pH variation, it was reddish purple in acidity and was purplish red in a base. For color changes according to mordanting method, more clear color change had been obtained when process with aluminium pre-mordanting than non-mordanting and post-mordanting. The colorfastness to light, perspiration and washing was 1, 4~5, and 3~4 ratings respectively. The silk fabric dyed with Aplysia kurodai demonstrated excellent antimicrobial activity to Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The Aplysia kurodai can be used as a new colorant for the natural dyeing of silk.

Influence of Carbon and Nitrogen Sources in Solubilization of Hardly Soluble Mineral Phosphates by Penicillium Oxalicum CBPS-Tsa

  • Phosphorus is one of the major plant growth limiting nutrients, despite being abundant in soils in both inorganic and organic forms. Phosphobioinoculants in the form of microorganisms can help in increasing the availability of accumulated phosphates for plant growth by solubilization. Penicillium oxalicum CBPSTsa, isolated from paddy rhizosphere, was studied for its phosphate solubilization. The influence of various carbon sources like glucose, sucrose, mannitol and sorbitol and nitrogen sources like arginine, sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate, ammonium chloride and ammonium sulphate were evaluated using liquid media with tricalcium phosphate (Ca-P), ferric phosphate (Fe-P) and aluminium phosphate (Al-P). Maximum soluble phosphate of 824 mg/L was found in the amendment of sucrose-sodium nitrate from 5 g/L of Ca-P. Mannitol, sorbitol, and ariginine were poor in phosphate solubilization. While sucrose was better carbon source in solubilization of Ca-P and Al-P, glucose fared better in solubilization of Fe-P. Though all the nitrogen sources enhanced P solubilization, nitrates were better than ammonium In the amendments of ammonium chloride and ammonium sulphate, higher uptake of available phosphates by the fungus was found, and this resulted in depletion of available P in Fe-P amendment Phosphate solubilization was accompanied by acidification of the media, and the highest pH decrease was observed in glucose amendment Among the nitrogen sources, ammonium chloride favored greater pH decrease.

  • 이 연구의 목적은 진동대를 사용한 지진모의 기술의 현상황을 살펴보고 그의 신뢰성을 검토하는 것이다. 1자유도 및 3자유도 알루미늄 전단구조 모델이 사용되었으며, $4m{\times}4m$ 6자유도 진동대가 1940 El centro 지진 가속도 기록(NS요소)를 재현하기 위해 수평 1방향으로 흔들어졌다. 진동대의 실제 가속도 이력과 목표 가속도 이력을 비교할 때, 전반적인 이력은 매우 흡사했으나 실제 진동의 저 주파수 영역은 목표치보다 후리에 변환 강도에서 낮은 값을 대체로 나타내고 있었다. 자유진동 및 백색파 실험은 고유주파수에 대해서는 거의 일치하는 값을 나타내고 있으나 감쇠계수에 대해서는 자유진동실험의 경우 1.4%, 백색파실험의 경우 14.8%를 나타내어 큰 차이를 보여주고 있다. 층 전단력 대 층간변위의 이력곡선으로부터 전제적으로 선형탄성거동을 나타내고 있으나 이 이력곡선의 모습이 층 강성을 한축으로 하는 타원형을 나타내어 점성감쇠의 영향을 암시하고 있다.

흑연과 탄소나노튜브 함유 아크릴 복합체 박막의 방열 특성 (Thermal Dissipation Property of Acrylic Composite Films Containing Graphite and Carbon Nanotube)

  • Thermal dissipation was investigated for poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) composite films containing graphite and multi wall carbon nanotube(CNT) powders as filler materials. After mixing PMMA with fillers, solvent, and dispersant, the pastes were prepared by passing through a three roll mill for three times. The prepared pastes were coated $15{\sim}40{\mu}m$ thick on a side of 0.4 mm thick aluminium alloy plate and dried for 30 min at $150^{\circ}C$ in an oven. The content of fillers in dried films was varied as 1, 2, and 5 weight % maintaining the ratio of graphite and CNT as 1:1. Raman spectra from three different samples exhibited D, G and 2D peaks, as commonly observed in graphite and multi wall CNT. Among those peaks, D peak was prominent, which manifested the presence of defects in carbon materials. Thermal emissivity values of three samples were measured as 0.916, 0.934, and 0.930 with increasing filler content, which were the highest ever reported for the similar composite films. The thermal conductivities of three films were measured as 0.461, 0.523, and $0.852W/m{\cdot}K$, respectively. After placing bare Al plate and film coated samples over an opening of a polystyrene box maintained for 1 h at $92^{\circ}C$, the temperatures inside and outside of the box were measured. Outside temperatures were lower by $5.4^{\circ}C$ in the case of film coated plates than the bare one, and inside temperatures of the former were lower by $3.6^{\circ}C$ than the latter. It can be interpreted that the PMMA composite film coated Al plates dissipate heat quicker than the bare Al plate.

종굽힘강도시험방법을 이용한 폴리에틸렌 보트 선체의 구조 설계 (Structural Design of Polyethylene Boat Hull by using Longitudinal Bending Strength Test Method)

  • 레저 보트 선체의 구조설계규격과 재료는 ISO 12215-5에 규정되어 있으며 선체 전장이 2.5m이상 24m미만이면서 선체재료가 강, 알루미늄, FRP등에 대해서만 적용할 수 있다. 따라서 선체 전장이 2.5m이하이거나 선체 재료가 ISO 12215-5의 규정 재료이외인 레저 보트인 경우 ISO 12215-5의 구조설계규격을 적용시킬 수 없고 ISO 12215-5의 부속서에 규정된 낙하시험만으로 구조 신뢰성을 확보할 수 있다. 그러나 선체낙하시험은 제작된 선체에 대하여 적용하는 것은 가능하나 선체를 구조설계단계에서 적용하는 것은 상당한 설계 및 시험 비용등을 초래하므로 현장 적용성이 떨어진다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제점을 극복하기 위하여 일본 소형 선박 검사 사무 규정 세칙에서 제안하고 있는 선체의 종굽힘강도시험규격을 폴리에틸렌 보트 선체의 구조 설계에 응용하여 ISO 12215-5의 비선급표준재료로 제작된 폴리에틸렌 보트의 종굽힘강도시험규격의 허용 설계 변위 기준을 제안하였다.

  • 열전소자를 이용한 냉각 장치에 있어서 열전소자발열부측의 제거 열량은 제품의 성능 및 적용범위를 결정하는 주요변수가 되므로 히트싱크의 열저항을 최소화 할 수 있는 최적 조건의 히트싱크 설계를 필요로 한다. 발열부가 작고 상대적으로 히트싱크 면적이 커서 히트싱크 전체면으로 열확산이 필요한 경우 히트싱크의 방열 성능을 향상시키기 위하여 작동유체 R-22의 진동형 히트파이프를 이용하여 열전소자의 발열부측의 발열량(30W, 60W, 80W, 100W)과 공기 유속(1~4 m/s)에 따른 히트싱크의 열저항 실험 및 수치해석 결과와 비교 분석을 통해 히트싱크의 냉각 성능을 향상 시킬 수 있는 방법을 연구하였다.

함정용 LED 투광등 설계 및 제작 (Design and Fabrication of a LED Floodlight for Naval Vessels)

  • This paper dealt with the development of a LED floodlight for naval vessels to replace the conventional floodlight using an incandescent and a halogen lamp. We found a technical solution for current problems of conventional lights and also improved optical characteristics by developing a LED floodlight which has a typical long-lived light source with high efficiency. To satisfy the requirements specified in Korea Standard Vessels (KS V), the optical structure was designed with selected LED package and lens. A LED module was composed of 10 LEDs in series for stable luminous output, and an aluminium heat sink was adopted for effective heat-radiation design. The LED floodlight was fabricated as a module type so that it can easily replace the conventional light source. The power consumption of the prototype floodlight was only a tenth of a conventional one with the same optical performance. Also, a test showed the floodlight satisfied the electrical, optical and environmental requirements of the standards.
