A Study of Electromagnetic Noise Characteristics of Alternator (차량용 교류발전기의 전자기소음 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In general, the noise of alternator is generated by structure of attachment and structural characteristics of alternator itself. In this paper, general phenomena and causes of alternator noise have been considered. Especially, electromagnetic noise source of alternator has been discussed by consideration about the vibration of stator teeth. Also experimental method and simulation method have been used for the proof.

  • 차량용 Alternator는 기계적인 에너지인 엔진의 회전력을 이용하여 발전을 하여 차량의 전기장치를 작동시키는 데 필요한 전원을 공급하며, Battery에 전원을 충전하는 장치이다. 따라서 Alternator의 고장이 발생하면 초기에는 Battery 전원에 의해서 차량의 제어 및 동작이 가능하나 Battery가 방전되면 차량의 제어는 물론 장비의 작동 자체가 불가능해진다. 차량용 Alternator는 농기계 및 승용차용으로 사용하는 12V Alternator와 상용차 및 특수차량용으로 사용하는 24V Alternator로 나누어진다. 특히 굴삭기는 험지에서의 굴착작업, Breaker 작업 등 진동, 내열, 먼지 등 환경조건이 기존의 차량과는 대조가 되지 않을 정도로 열악하여 일반차량용에서 보다 부품수명도 짧고, 고장발생 모드도 다양하다. 본 장에서는 굴삭기에 사용되는 24V Alternator의 고장모드를 분석하고 Field에서 발생하는 고장을 개선함으로써 MTTF를 향상시키는 방법에 대하여 고찰하고자 한다.

  • Based on classical Berotti discrete iron loss calculation model, the iron loss analysis mathematical model of alternator was proposed in this paper. Considering characteristics of high speed and changing frequency of the alternator, Maxwell 3-D model was built to analyze iron loss corresponding to each running speed in alternator. Based on iron loss model of alternator at rated speed, the rotor claw pole size was made an optimization design. The optimization results showed that alternator's output performance had been improved. A new idea was explored in size optimization design of claw pole alternator.

  • The die casting process was used to manufacture a alternator housing for automobile. Specially automobile parts were required light and hight strength. Therefore simulation have been carried out die casting process of the alternator housing. In this paper, we investigated about characteristics of the die casted alternator housing the HPDC(High Pressure Die Casting) process. Also we designed the die casting die with the simulation results of the alternator housing. The MAGMAsoft and Auto-CAD was used as computer simulation and design code and used material was ADC12(Aluminum Die Casting Alloy). We present the results of filling behavior and design of die process of the alternator housing cast. The result obtained about filling behavior and design of die of the cast showed good agreement with test result.

  • Engine noise consists of the noise radiated from an engine structure and noises from engine ancillaries such as a turbocharger fuel injection system, and alternator. The noise of these ancillaries might be incorrectly evaluated in the aspect of the noise contribution to engine noise because the noise reflection effect of their neighbor engine structure is easily ignored. Consequently, noise source identification should be misled. This study investigates the fact that the engine structure located around an alternator reflects alternator noise, and the reflected noise acts as another alternator noise source in a heavy-duty diesel engine. The result shows that the alternator noise can be correctly estimated in engine noise by properly including the noise reflection effect.

  • Until now, method of equivalent circuit is generally used in analyzing the characteristic of the synchronous alternator. But this method can't apply when loads are connected to alternator. In this paper, we analyzed the load characteristic of the synchronous alternator with permanant magnet using 2-dimensional finite element method having voltage source. The loads of a alternator are battary and diodes which are used to rectify. also, we used half periodic boundary condition in the F.E.M calculation

Efficiency Improvement of an Automotive Alternator by Heat Treatment

  • Recently, $CO_2$ emission standards and fuel efficiency legislation has been tightened globally. Therefore automotive alternator performance becomes increasingly important to meet the requirements. Many proposed methods have suggested adding magnets or regulation control to increase alternator efficiency and output. However, this creates a significant additional cost. During the stator lamination process, the magnetic property of the stator deteriorates mainly due to stamping and slinky process for an alternator. To maximize the alternator performance, heat treatment of the stator core was performed and magnetic properties were compared to find the optimal condition. Finally, alternator output and efficiency test were performed resulting in significant output and efficiency improvement up to 6.8% and 0.6% respectively.

  • For many years there has been a trend to increased electrical energy consumption in cars caused by the replacement of mechanical parts by electronic or mechanical devices as well as the introduction of new electronic features. Whereas the number of electrical consumers continues to increase, the battery is still the only passive power source available. Because of this reason, needs for driving power of the engine accessories such as alternator system have increased. Usually, conventional alternator system is directly driven by the crankshaft of engine with belt. Since this increase bring about additional fuel economy. To improve this system automobile makers develops new controled alternator system. This paper focuses on fuel economy improvement according to control of alternator. In this paper, researches are performed on effect of type of Alternator system on fuel economy by experiment. And it is also calculated the effect on vehicle fuel economy using computer simulation with AVL cruise software. As a result, 0.64% of vehicle fuel economy improvement can be achieved in a vehicle with controled Alternator system compared to a vehicle with conventional Alternator system in NEDC mode.

  • This paper is a research for removing the alternators hunting which came about during the par-allel running. The four-pole six-phase alternator is equipped with the converter made out of twelve diodes to rectify all the waves. The hunting came about during the battery charging due to the hunting inducing point existed in r. p. m band 1575[rpm-1690[rpm] To remove the hunting inducing point We modified the four-pole six-phase alternator into the four-pole twevel-phase and increased the short-circuit ratio by decreasing the field coil pitch and increasing the field coil turns. But this method has two defects the first the alternator structure becomes complicating and the second the second the alternator equipped with the converter used in general purpose lately such as the car alternator can not be run in parallel wlthout modifying. To remove the defects the equalizing line was connected between the same phase of the alterna-tor to flow the synchronizing current which syncronize the phases of generator electromotive forces by which the alternator can be run in parallel without reference to the hunting inducing point and without modifying.

  • An alternator which converts mechanical rotating energy into electric energy is an important component of a vehicle. It operates in broad range from 3000 RPM to 18000 RPM. So, sufficient flow rate and low noise are needed in such broad operating range for a cooling fan of this alternator. In current study, the cooling fan of an alternator is developed through DFSS process and numerical analysis. In order to calculate flow rate and noise level, SC/Tetra and FlowNoise S/W are used respectively, for a new developed fan, compared with original model, numerical result shows 3 dBA reduction and measured value shows 4 dBA reduction.
