  • This study discusses special aspects of severe accident related recriticality modeling and analysis in the Advanced Neutron Source (ANS) reactor.$^{1, 2)}$ The analytical comparison of three elements core to former two elements case is conducted including evaluation of suitable nuclear cross-section sets to account for the effects of system configulation, fuel and moderator mixture temperature, material dispersion and the other thermal-hydraulics. Three elements core ANS reactor is the alternative core design which was proposed as a modified core design, with three fuel elements instead of two, that would allow operation with only 50% enriched uranium (former uranium fuel is the baseline design value of 93%) A comprehensive test matrix of calculations to evaluate the threat of a criticality event in the ANS is described. Strong dependencies still on geometry, material constituents, and thermal-hydraulic conditions are verified. Therefore, the concepts of mitigative design features are qualified.d.

  • This study was contrived Hierarchical Information Search (HIS) model. HIS model is based on a “cognitive process” in which model, comprising basic human information processing mechanize and information interaction. Its process include 3 semantic cognitive processes: Schema-Association LTM, Form Domain, and Alternative Selection. Design methodology consists to elicitate memory, thinking and cognitive response variables. In case study, menu structure of mobile phone was applied. In result, a correlation between predictive error rate and real error rate was .892. and a correlation between selective and real reaction time was .697. This present to suggest a model of how the methodology could be applied to real system design effectively when this was used. HIS model could become one of the most important factors for success of product design. In the perspective, the systemic methodology would contribute to design a quantitative and predictive system.

  • We investigate a design methodology for master arm which is employed in remote-site control. Though counter-balancing has been employed for the purpose of lessening the actuator loads, it results in the increase of dynamic load at the task position. Therefore, there exists a trade-off between counter-balancing and dynamic performance. The concept of a composite index is introduced to simultaneously consider those two effects in the design of master arms. Several alternative designs of master arms are suggested.

  • This study aims to propose design directions for the eco-friendly, sustainable underground campus in terms of integrated design. For this purpose, theoretical investigation, design methodology and quality investigation, analytical case studies on the domestic and foreign underground campus, and user survey for POE(Post Occupancy Evaluation) and analysis on the recently built domestic underground campus plans were conducted. As a conclusion, design direction and improvement areas for the synthesized sustainable underground campus plan were proposed. Underground campus plan will be a great alternative for a 21st century sustainable campus if well-developed plans with organized design guidelines are established.

  • Filter design for harmonic reduction suggests that measurement from IEEE std-519 and IEEE-61000 standards for 1 year designs filter about the worst case, filter design about method applied probability from IEEE std-519 standard suggests the basic alternative. At filter design method applied to temporary occurred harmonic maximum, analyzed into closely harmonic that applied to probability develops that ignorable harmonic that lowers temporary occurred probability is rational and economic filter design in detailed method.

  • Robust design is an approach to reducing performance variation of response values in products and processes. In the Taguchl parameter design, the product-array approach using orthogonal arrays is mainly used. However, it often requires an excessive number of experiments. An alternative approach, which is called the combined-array approach, was suggested by Welch et. al. (1990) and studied by others. In these studies, only single response variable was considered. We propose how to simultaneously optimize multiple responses when there are correlations among responses, and when we use the combined-array approach to assign control and noise factors. An example is illustrated to show the difference between the Taguchi's product-array approach and the combined-array approach.

  • Nowadays, global warming and high oil prices were a threat to the survival of the whole human race. One of a solution to respond to these problems is to reduce energy consumption of building. By adopting energy-saving design, the dissemination of low energy building is required. Therefore, to improve energy efficiency while reducing the usage of the design method is necessary to study actively. BIM-based systems applied to buildings, scheduled to be built by reducing the amount of energy reduction technologies can be analyzed. Depending on various design and equipment to set energy savings goals, you can select an alternative. If it is possible to predict the energy efficiency from the initial stage of design and support designing low energy building, we would be able to expect improvement in the economics of housing due to the reduction of energy consumption.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the facade design of the modern multistory-housing in europe and to try to find the significant factor of them. For analysing, the facade design factors are divided by three criterion, which consists of external expression, visual expression and Housing Shape. And those three criterion are schematized by subdivision. By integrating those data, this study aims at deriving the significant factor of facade designs and categorizing them. Conclusively, I suggest the alternative method to improve the facade design of multistory-housing in Korea based on results of this study.

  • Recycle fashion is suggested to the suitable alternative of the environmental problem and the exhaustion of natural resources. The purpose of this study is focused on trying to comprehend between design characteristics and aesthetic values of recycle fashion design and those from fashion brands, fashion designers, and the public. For such purpose, 1553 photos of recycle fashion design which appeared in web-site, newspaper, fashion magazines between 2002 and 2007 were analyzed. Method of analysis did content analysis. The results of the research can be summarized as follows. First, design characteristics of recycle fashion were expressed by Junk Recycle Look, Vintage Recycle Look, Contemporary Recycle Look, Artisanal Recycle Look. Second, the expression methods of recycle fashion were presented reuse, reform, and regeneration. Third, aesthetic values of recycle fashion can be explained by the promotion of environment, the variableness, and the deconstruction.

  • In this study, ultimate strength characteristics of clamped sandwich panels with metal faces and an elastic isotropic core under combined in-plane compression and lateral pressure loads are investigated to verify the applicability of the ultimate strength design formula for ship structures. Alternative elastomer-cored steel sandwich panels are selected instead of the conventional bottom stiffened panels for a Suezmax-class tanker and then the ultimate strength characteristics of the selected sandwich panels are examined by using nonlinear finite element analysis. The change in the ultimate strength characteristics due to the change in the thickness of the face plate and core as well as the amplitude of lateral pressure are summarized and compared with the results obtained by using the ultimate strength design formula and nonlinear finite element analysis. The insights and conclusions developed in the present study will be useful for the design and development of applications for sandwich panels in double hull tanker structures.
