The direct-current electroetching of high purity aluminum in hot aqueous-chloride solution produces a high density of micrometer-wide tunnels whose walls are made up of the {100} planes and penetrate aluminum in the <100> directions at rates of micrometer per second. In the process of the alternating-current pitting of aluminum, cathodic polarization plays an important role in the nucleation and growth of the pits during the subsequent polarization. The direct-current tunnel etching and alternating-current etching of aluminum are basically related to the formation of poorly crystallized or amorphous passive films. If the passive film forms on the wall, a natural misfit exists between the film and the aluminum substrate, which in turn gives rise to stress in both the film and the substrate. Even though the amorphous films do not have directed properties, their stresses are influenced by the substrate orientation. The films on elastically soft substrate are likely to be less stressed and more stable than those on elastically hard substrate. The hardest and softest planes of aluminum are the {111} and {100} planes, respectively. Therefore, the films on the {111} substrates are most likely to be attacked, and those on the {100} substrates are least likely to be attacked. For the tunnel etching, it follows that the tunnel walls tend to consist of the {100} planes. Meanwhile, the tunnel tip, where active corrosion takes place, tend to be made of four closely packed {111} planes in order to minimize the surface energy, which gives rise to the <100> tunnel etching.
To operate organic light emitting device (OLED) with alternating current (AC) power source without AC/DC(direct current) converter, we fabricated the fluorescent OLED and measured the emission characteristics with AC and DC. The OLED operated by AC showed higher maximum current efficiency of 8.2 cd/A and maximum power efficiency of 8.3 lm/W. But current efficiency and power efficiency of AC driven OLED showed worse than DC driven OLED at high voltage above 10 V. This result can be explained by the peak voltage of AC was $\sqrt{2}$ times than DC, In case of low driving voltage the emission characteristics were improved by the peak voltage of AC, but in case of high driving voltage the emission efficiencies were decreased by the roll off phenomena. Finally, serial OLED arrays using twelve OLEDs driven by AC 110 V showed average voltage of 9.17 V, voltage uniformity of 99.0%, average luminance of $1,175cd/m^2$, luminance uniformity of 94.4%.
In this paper, the nature of iron loss in electrical steel during alternating field excitation is investigated more precisely. The exact definition of AC iron loss is cleared by accurately measuring the iron loss for conditions of both the sinusoidal magnetic field and sinusoidal magnetic flux density. The results of this approach to iron loss calculations in electrical steel are compared to experimentally-measured losses. In addition, an inverse hysteresis model considering eddy current loss was developed to analyze the iron loss when the input is the voltage source. With this model, the inrush current in the inductor or transformer as well as the iron loss can be calculated.
A DC current sensor is disclosed in which two pairs of saturable cores are provided so as enclose a conductor carrying a direct current to be measured. On each of the saturable cores, a bias winding, a feedback winding and an output winding are wound. Circuit for detection of an asymmetry in the magnetization current, generated by a reference alternating voltage, in a signal-conditioner. The reference alternating voltage is fed to the respective series circuits such that no resultant induction current is induced in the modulating current. The voltages over the resistor form input signals for two peak value detectors, the strength of the output signal of which represents the degree of asymmetry of magnetization current. This paper describes the development a DC current sensor and its signal-conditioner.
This paper describes characteristics of the developed current sensor by means of two identically wound magnetic cores forming a clamp like for measurement of a low DC, or AC current. This sensor consists of peak value detectors, a sensor of an electrically compensated current transformer type, a reference alternating voltage, Precision measuring circuits to measure the output signals of sensor with harmonics, and can be measured up to 2 A at DC, or AC current. The current sensor shows a measurement accuracy of less than 0.3% in the frequency range 40 Hz - 10 HBz. The resolution and sensitivity of the sensor were evaluated 0.1 mA and 10 mV/mA, respectively.
The performance of inductively coupled plasma (ICP) is enhanced by axial magnetic field driven by alternating current Helmholtz coils in this work. Langmuir pobe is used to characterize the plasma, and the etching performance is demonstrated with phororesist stripping process. It is shown that its density and uniformity depends on the frequency of driving current to the magnetic field.

The color shifting from yellow to green of electroluminescent emission from ZnS: Cu alternating current thick film electroluminescent (ACTFEL) devices has been achieved by changing the Mg composition in the phosphor layers. The commission international de l'Eclairge (CIE) color co-ordinates of the ACTFEL devices prepared from these phosphor layers show a shifting from yellow (x=0.45, y=0.52) towards green (x=0.36, y=0.58). The various parameters influencing the emission intensity were also investigated.
An experimental study was conducted using the tracking wheel test (IEC 62217) method for evaluating the performance of insulator materials, in particular ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) and silicone rubber. In addition, we studied the tracking characteristics resulting from applying the same method for the shape of the insulator housing, that is, the performance of regular and alternating sheds. The evaluation parameters were leakage current, surface characteristics, SEM, EDX, hydrophobicity, and temperature distribution; likewise, we applied the commercial frequency dry (and wet) flashover voltage test. We found that the regular shed had a greater leakage current than the alternating shed and that the recovery of the hydrophobicity in terms of rest time was greater than that of the EPDM in terms of leakage current. All of the regular-shed insulators of silicone rubber had tracking traces and choking on the sheath parting line, while the alternating shed showed only choking at the interface but no tracking traces. Therefore, it can be concluded that the commercial frequency wet flashover voltage of the silicone rubber with regular shed before and after the tracking wheel test is higher than that of the alternating shed.
An alternating current (AC) corrosion on buried pipeline has been studied using coupon and ER probe. Coupons and ER probes were applied to the sites from high value of AC voltage to low value based on the survey of AC voltages on buried gas transmission pipeline over the country. Parameters such as AC current density of coupon, AC voltage, cathodic protection potential, soil resistivity and frequency were monitored continually. Corrosion induced by AC was observed even under cathodically protected condition that met cathodic protection criterion (; below -850 mV vs. CSE). Corrosion rate was affected mainly not by AC voltage but by both of frequency and AC current density. An experimental corrosion rate relation could be obtained according to effective AC current density, in which AC corrosion rate increased linearly with effective AC current density, and its slope was 0.619 in coupon method and 0.885 in ER probes.
Although it was recently observed that severe fatigue damage was formed in Al or Cu interconnects due to the cyclic temperatures generated by Joule heating of the metal lines by the passage of alternating currents (AC), AC loading frequency effect on the damage evolution characteristics are not known so far. This work focused on the effect of AC loading frequency (100 Hz vs. 10 kHz) on the thermo-mechanical fatigue characteristics by using polycrystalline sputtered Cu lines with temperature cycles with amplitudes from 100 to $300^{\circ}C$. It was consistently observed that higher loading frequency accelerated damaged grain growth and led to earlier failure irrespective of Cu grain sizes. The frequency effect is believed to result from differences in the concentration of defects created by the deformation-induced motion of dislocations to the grain boundaries.
