Some of the pressurized reactor pressure vessels used in many chemical plants are made of low alloy carbon steel plates internally clad with an austenitic stainless steel for improved anti-corrosion properties. In this study, metallurgic structure of the weld interface of A 387 Grade12Class1 low alloy carbon steel claded with A182-F321 austenitic stainless steel after thermal exposure simulation heat treatment was investigated to display a characteristic behavior of dissimilar metal weld interface with thermal exposure during service at high temperature and pressure. EPMA, STEM, vickers-hardness test were performed and the results were correlated with the microstructure. To estimate the depth of the carburized/decarburized bands quantitatively, a model for carbon diffusion was proposed. The validity of the proposed theoretical relationships was confirmed by the directly measured data from the welded parts failed during service.
Alloy 600 and Alloy 82/182 materials have been used widely in PWR plants. But these materials are known to be susceptible to PWSCC(Primary Water Stress Corrosion Cracking). Recently, there have been several PWSCC events in major components due to repair welding, because repair welding in the dissimilar metal welds during the construction increases residual stress significantly on the inner surface of welds. In this paper, various residual stress analyses for repair welding were performed using FEM to check the effect of repair welding on residual stress distributions in PZR safety/relief nozzle. The results indicate that for inside surface repair welding, high tensile residual stress is developed on the inside surface of the nozzles.

The objective of this thesis is to investigate the influence of welding residual stresses on the fatigue growth behavior of welding residual stresses on the fatigue growth behavior of cracks located transverse to the weld bead. For this purpose, G.T.A. (Gas Tungsten Arc) welding was performed on the Al. Alloy 1100-0 plate and the same initial crack is made on HAZ(Heat Affected Zone), weld metal and base metal respectively. C.T.(Compact Tension) specimens were used as experimental material. Initial welding residual stresses were measured by using strain gage sectioning method. All specimens were tested under constant amplitude load with stress ratio R=0.1
The steady state cyclic mechanism, and the behaviour of Nicoseal(Fe-29Ni-17Co) have been examined under the condition of square wave stress cyclic tension creep test at the temperature, stress and frequency range of $430{\sim}470^{\circ}C$($0.41{\sim}0.43T_m$), 353~383 MPa, and 3 cpm, respectively. Also, the relationship between cyclic creep and static creep have been examined. The stress exponents(n) for the static creep deformation of this alloy were 11.6, 10.0, 8.4 and 7.9 at the temperature of 430, 445, 460 and $470^{\circ}C$, respectively. The apparent activation energies (Q) for the static creep deformation were 54.2, 51.8, 49.7 and 46.8 kcal/mole for the stress of 353, 363, 373 and 383 MPa, From the above results, it could be considered that the cyclic creep accelaration phenomena was obtained and that the cyclic deformation for Nicoseal seemed to be controlled by dislocation climb over the range of experimental conditions. Nicoseal alloy under the cyclic creep conditions was obtained as P=(T+460)(logt+17). The failure plane observed by SEM showed up transgranular fracture at all range.

During welding, the dissimilar metal butt welds of nuclear piping are typically subjected to repair welding in order to eliminate defects that are found during post-weld inspection. It has been found that the repair weld can significantly increase the tensile residual stress in the weldment, and therefore, accurate estimation of the weld residual stress due to repair weld, especially for dissimilar metal welds using Ni-based alloy 82/182 in nuclear components, is of great importance in order to assess susceptibility to primary water stress corrosion cracking. In the present study, the stress distributions of dissimilar metal butt welds in nuclear reactor piping subjected to repair weld were investigated based on detailed nonlinear finite element analyses. Particular emphasis was placed on the variation of the stress distribution in the dissimilar metal butt weld according to the finite element welding analysis sequence for the repair welding process.
Crash box is one of the most important automotive parts for crash energy absorption and is equipped at the front end of the front side member. The specific characteristics of aluminum alloys offer the possibility to design cost-effective lightweight structures with high stiffness and excellent crash energy absorption potential. This study deals with crashworthiness of aluminum crash box for an auto-body with the various types of cross section. For aluminum alloys, A17003-T7 and A17003-T5, the dynamic tensile test was carried out to apply for crash analysis at the range of strain from 0.003/sec to 200/sec. The crash analysis and the crash test were carried out for three cross sections of rectangle, hexagon and octagon. The analysis results show that the octagon cross section shape with A17003-T5 has higher crashworthiness than other cross section shapes. The effect of rib shapes in the cross section is important factor in crash analysis. Finally, new configuration of crash box with high crash energy absorption was suggested.
Primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) is a major safety concern in the nuclear power industry worldwide. PWSCC is known to initiate only in the condition in which sufficiently high tensile stress is applied to alloy 600 tube material or alloy 82/182 weld material in pressurized water reactor operating environments. However, it is still uncertain how much tensile stress is re-quired to generate PWSCC or what causes such high tensile stress. This study was performed to pre-dict the magnitude of weld residual stress and operating stress and compare it with previous experi-mental results for PWSCC initiation. For the study, a pressurizer safety nozzle was selected because it is reported to be vulnerable to PWSCC in overseas plants. The assessment was conducted by nu-merical analysis. Before performing stress analysis for plant conditions, a preliminary mock-up ana-lysis was done. The result of the preliminary analysis was validated by residual stress measurement in the mock-up. After verification of the analysis methodology, an analysis under plant conditions was conducted. The analysis results show that the stress level is not high enough to initiate PWSCC. If a plant is properly welded and operated, PWSCC is not likely to occur in the pressurizer safety nozzle.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of hot forging ratio on the microstructure and mechanical properties of incoloy 825 alloy. Hot forging was carried out at the forging ratio of 0%, 60% and 90% respectively in a range of $900^{\circ}C{\sim}1,140^{\circ}C$ and followed solution treatment was conducted at $1,000^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr. In all the specimens of hot forged of 0%, 60% and 90%, precipitates were not observed. The average grain size of 0% specimen is $82{\mu}m$ and that of 60% and 90% is $56{\mu}m$ and $31{\mu}m$, respectively. The range of grain size in the 0% specimen is uneven in $182{\mu}m$ to $31{\mu}m$, but the grain size of 90% specimen is uniform. With increasing hot forging ratio, the mechanical properties such as tensile strength, elongation, hardness increased and impact toughness increased by grain refinement.

An experiment is carried out to investigate the characteristics of blanking for copper alloy C194 (t=0.254mm), a kind of IC lead frame material. By varying clearance between die and punch, the shapes of shear profile are examined. Finite element analysis with element deletion algorithm for ductile fracture mode is also carried out to study the effect of clearance theoretically and to compare with experimental results. The rectangular shape specimen with four different corner radius is used to study the characteristics of blanking for straight side and corner region simultaneously. As the result, the ratios measured from the experiment of roll over, burnish, and fracture zone based on intial blank thickness are compared with those of FE analysis. Both experiment and FE analysis show that the amount of roll over and fracture is increased as the clearance increases. It has been found that larger clearance is required than that of straight region when the radius of corner is less than thickness of blank, in order to maintain same quality of shear profile at the corner region.

In recent years, the dissimilar metal, Alloy 82/182 welds used to connect stainless steel piping and low alloy steel or carbon steel components in nuclear reactor piping system have experienced cracking due to primary water stress corrosion(PWSCC). It is well known that one reason of the cracking is the residual stress by the weld. But, it is difficult to estimate exactly weld residual stress due to many parameters of welding. In this paper, the analysis of 3 FEM models made by ABAQUS Code is performed to estimate exactly the weld residual stress on the dissimilar metal weld. 3 FEM models are Butt model, Repair model and Overlay model and are the plane.strain 2D model. The thermal analysis and the stress analysis are performed on each model and the residual stresses on each model were calculated and compared respectively. Also, the specimen of Butt model was made and the residual stresses were measured by X-Ray method and Hole Drilling Technique. These results were compared with the FEM result of Butt model.
