  • Bordetella bronchiseptica, the agent of swine atrophic rhinitis and kennel cough in dogs, is a mucosal pathogen and produces the hydroxamate type alcaligin siderophore under iron-limited conditions. Genes involved in alcaligin siderophore biosynthesis are contained in an alcABCDE operon. In order to provide direct evidence for the role of AlcA in alcaligin biosynthesis, we needed a B. bronchiseptica mutant carrying alcA gene deletion. A 0.6 kb alcA 5'-flanking and 0.7kb 3'-flanking DNA fragments were PCR amplified with the use of pCP1.11 as a template DNA. The 5'-and 3'-flanking DNA fragments were joined in a suicide plasmid, resulting in a recombinant suicide plasmid pDM1. After introduction of pDM1 into B. bronchiseptica by conjugation, the allelic exchange technique was performed and a B. bronchiseptica alcA deletion mutant, named B. bronchiseptica H1, was obtained. The mutant strain produced reduced amount of siderophore as expected. When a plasmid containing complete alcA gene was transformed back into the mutant, the complemented mutant recovered ability of siderophore production. These results indicated that AlcA is one of essential components for the alcaligin siderophore biosynthesis. The mutant strains obtained in this study will be used in the further studies for the biochemical function of AlcA.

  • For Analysis and evaluation of ALC carbonation, ALC with various specific gravity was fabricated and silicate and siloxane were used for spraying on ALC surface. Silicon oil of water repellent was added to ALC slurry. ALC carbonation related with specific gravity and carbonation degree was decreased with specific gravity. It was guessed that permeation of $CO_2$ gas reduced depend on compact structure of ALC. ALC which sprayed silicate and siloxane represented more excellent carbonation resistance than Ref. ALC. ALC added silicon oil represented most excellent carbonation resistance.

  • ALC(Autoclaved Lightweight Concrete) is produced using quartz sand, lime and cement and water. And aluminum powder is used for blowing agent. ALC is manufactured by autoclave chamber under high-temperature and high-pressure. Generally, ALC is 1/4 levels lighter than concrete and mortar, because it has a lot of pores. So density of ALC is about 0.45~0.65 g/$cm^3$. But, ALC has a weakness, typically low strength, with its porous structure. So, it is necessary to excellent strength properties for extensive apply of ALC materials in high porosity. In this study, melamine resin was used to improve the strength characteristics of ALC materials. We performed compressive and bending strength measurements. Compressive strength of ALC with 2% melamine resin increased 26.88% than 'melamine-free' ALC. Also we performed functionality evaluation such as thermal conductivity, sound absorption, and flame-resistance.

  • Acetyl-L-camitine (ALC), a naturally occurring endogenous compound, has been shown to improve the cognitive performance of patients with senile dementia Alzheimer's type, and to be involved in cholinergic neurotransmission. Because ALC is an endogenous compound, valida-tion of the analytical methods of ALC in the biological fluids is very important and difficult. This study was presented validation and correction for plasma ALC concentrations and pharmacok-inetics after oral administration of ALC to human volunteers. ALC concentrations in human plasma were corrected by subtracting the concentration of blank plasma from each sample. Precision and accuracy (bias %) for uncorrected ALC concentrations were below 2.6 and 6.5% for intra-days, and 4.0 and 9.4% for inter-days, respectively. Precision and accuracy (bias %)for corrected ALC concentrations were below 10.9 and 6.0% for intra-days, and 10.5 and 16.9% for inter-days, respectively. Quantitation limit was $0.1{\;}\mu\textrm{g}/mL$. After oral administration of a 500 mg ALC tablet to 8 healthy volunteers, the principle pharmacokinetic parameters were 4.2 h of the half-life$ (t_{1/2},{\beta})$, the area under the curve $(AUC_{0{\rightarrow}8){\;}of{\;}9.88{\;}\mu\textrm{g}{\cdot}h/mL$, and 3.1 h of the time ($T_{max}$) to reach $C_{max}$. This study first describes the pharmacokinetic study after oral admin-istration of a single dose of ALC in human volunteers.

  • A field assay was conducted to study whether the by-product of Autoclaved Lightweight Concrete(ALC) could be used as a silicate fertilizer for Korean Zoysiagrass. ALC application rates (0, 2.0, 4.0, 6.0 and $8.0Mg\;ha^{-1}$) were investigated for their effects on growth status, mineral nutrient concentrations, yield of fresh and dry matter of lawn grass and soil properties after experiments. The number of stolon and length of stolon at 180 day after Zoysiagrass transplanting were increased in the treatemnt of $2.0{\sim}6.0Mg\;ha^{-1}$ of ALC application, but those of $8.0Mg\;ha^{-1}$ of ALC plot were deceased with excess of ALC. The fresh weight and dry matter at harvesting time of lawn grass treated with $6.0Mg\;ha^{-1}$ of ALC was heavier than those of other ALC plots. There were statistically significant between the number of stolon and length of stolon remarkably. Mineral nutrient contents such as Si and Ca in Zoysiagrass were increased by higher ALC application, while T-N, available P and K were no difference with application lavel of ALC. Soil pH and Si contents in soil after experiment were increased by ALC application remarkably.

  • ALC was fabricated using cement, lime, quartzite and a foaming agent via a hydrothermal reaction. ALC has various hydrothermal reaction products and many pores. The properties and colors of ALC surfaces were changed by various factors during ALC fabrication process. This study tested various staying times to analyze these phenomena. It was found that the staying time of green body influenced the properties of hydrothermal products and color of ALC surface. The longer staying time of green body, the lower tobermorite content and cumulative loss weight. An increase in holding time changed color and decreased whiteness of ALC surface. The relationship between whiteness and cumulative loss weight was very high (Coefficient, r = 0.95). It was surmised that tobermorite content was an important factor for enhancement of whiteness However, ettringite and quartzite did not contribute to whiteness.

  • Recently, the use of ALC has became increasingly popular. ALC is a unique building material. Because of its cellular nature, it is lightweight, self-insulating, sound and fireproof, as well as insect and mold resistant. Furthermore, ALC is free of VOCs and various fibers associated with wood and glass wool construction. However, ALC have high water absorption, low compressive strength and popout the origin of the low surface strength in its properties. These properties make troubles under construction such as cracking and popout. Thus, this study is to improve the fundamental strength by controls of increasing of admixtures, and grain size. Admixtures make use of metakaolin, silica fume, sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide. From the test result, the ALC using admixture have a good fundamental properties compared with plain specimen. Compressive strength, specific strength and abrasion's ratio were improved depending on increasing admixtures ratio's, and grain size.

  • The objective of this study is to develop a high-performance foamed concrete made with a new mixture proportioning as an alternative of autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC) block. For the early-strength gain of the foamed concrete under an atmospheric curing condition, the binders and chemical agents were specially contrived as follows: 3% anhydrous gypsum was added to ordinary portland cement (OPC) in which $3CaO{\cdot}SiO_2$ content was controlled to be above 60%; and the content of polyethylene glycol alkylether in a polycarboxylate-based water-reducing agent was modified to be 28%. Using these binders and chemical agents, 11 mixes were prepared with the parameters of W/B ratio (30% to 20% in a interval of 2.5%) and unit binder content ($400kg/m^3$ to $650kg/m^3$ in a interval of $50kg/m^3$). The quality and availability of the mixed foamed concrete were examined according to the minimum requirements specified in the KS for ALC block and existed conventional foamed concrete. The measured properties satisfied the minimum requirement of KS for ALC block and proved that the developed high-performance foamed concrete had considerable potential for practical application.

  • Autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC), also known as autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC), is a lightweight, precast building material that simultaneously provides structure, insulation. ALC is a unique building material. Because of its cellular nature, it is lightweight, self-insulating, as well as sound and fireproof. ALC products include blocks, wall panels, floor and roof panels, and lintels. Recently, the use of ALC has became increasingly popular. However, ALC have high water absorption, low compressive strength and popout the origin of the low surface strength in its properties. Thus, this study is to improve the fundamental strength by controls of increasing of admixtures and chemical reactants. Admixtures make use of meta kaolin and silica fume, chemical reactants make use of sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide. From the test result, the ALC using admixtures and chemical reactants have a good fundamental properties compared with plain ALC. These good fundamental properties is caused by the admixtures and chemical reactants of ALC by the reason of the micro filling effect and chemical binding of C-S-H gel, tobermolite and quartz.

  • The effect of particle size of Al powder, water repellent agent and finishing agent on frost resistance, absorption ratio and structure of micropore was examined to improve the physical properties and durability of ALC. According as the amount added of water repellent agent was increased, frost resistance was improved and absorption ratio was decreased. From one side freezing /thaw test, finishing agent which has a low vapor permeation located the crack at close indoor point of ALC specimen. ALC produced from fine Al powder has a low volume reduction by scalling and a sound appearance after freezing/thawing test and top surface freezing test, The crystal of tobermorite in ALC matrix was converted to calcium carbonate by carbonation which was accelerated with the decreasing of water content. Since the micropore of ALC was filled up by calcium carbonate, void ratio was reduced and crack was detected after complete carbonation.
