Harmony Matters in Alarm Design: Investigating the Impact of Consonance on Alarm System

  • Alarm system performance is a critical aspect of safety. While existing research has extensively examined the influence of acoustic attributes on alarm performance, consonance's impact remains largely uncharted territory. This study bridges this research gap by investigating the effect of consonance on alarm systems. We extend our investigation to encompass not only the sound characteristics of the alarm but also the acoustic qualities of the surrounding environment, recognizing their potential impact on alarm efficacy. Prior studies consistently link consonance to annoyance levels, resulting in a negative user experience. Thus, we explore the relationship between consonance and alarm system performance, with a particular focus on modulating annoyance as an explanatory factor. Utilizing an oddball paradigm, we categorized standard and oddball sounds into consonant and dissonant types, creating four sound combinations. Participants were asked to respond to the irregularly presented oddball sounds while ignoring the constantly presented standard sounds. Our results reveal significant differences between groups, with the Standard Consonant/Oddball Dissonant (SC/OD) group displaying notably slower response times than the Standard Dissonant/Oddball Consonant (SD/OC) group. This reaction time variation aligns with differences in annoyance levels, as the SC/OD group reports higher annoyance, suggesting that reaction time discrepancies may be linked to increased arousal due to heightened annoyance.

  • There are many alarms in Substation Automation System because of data types and quantities increasing, so it is very difficult for operators to know the actual situations. In order to help operators easily make decision, some unnecessary alarms should be removed or combined as one. In this paper, alarm processing is using the structure of substation system and the relation of measured data and events to make some rules. Conventional alarm processing just gives data, but proposed alarm processing gives the whole information. In a simulation model system, the data such as voltage, current and CB status are collected by HyperSim and saved in DB, then proposed alarm processing has been testified using those data based on real-time simulation.

에지 컴퓨팅 환경에서 비콘을 활용한 특수건물 화재 경보 시스템 개선 방안 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Fire Alarm System in Special Buildings Using Beacons in Edge Computing Environment)

  • 오늘날 기술과 산업의 발전으로 특수건물이 늘어남에 따라 특수건물 내 화재 사고가 증가하고 있다. 그러나 정보통신기술의 빠른 발전에도 불구하고 낙후되고 실효성을 갖추지 못한 실내 화재 경보 시스템을 사용함으로 인해 인명 피해가 꾸준히 발생하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 음향경보를 이용하는 기존 실내 화재 경보 시스템이 건물 내 인원들에게 충분한 경보를 전달하지 못하는 '경보의 사각지대 문제'를 개선하고자 에지 컴퓨팅과 비콘을 활용한 화재 경보 시스템을 설계하고 구현하였다. 제안하는 개선된 화재 경보 시스템은 말단 센서 노드와 에지 노드, 사용자 애플리케이션, 서버로 구성된다. 말단 센서 노드는 실내 환경 데이터를 수집하여 에지 노드로 전송하고, 에지 노드는 전송받은 정보를 기반으로 화재 발생 여부를 모니터링 한다. 또한 에지 노드는 비콘 신호를 지속적으로 발생시켜 신호 범위 내의 사용자 애플리케이션이 설치된 스마트기기의 정보를 수집하여 서버 데이터베이스에 저장하고, 화재 발생 시 수집한 기기들의 정보를 바탕으로 모든 재실 인원에게 애플리케이션 푸시 형태로 화재 경보를 전송한다. 구현한 화재 경보 시스템의 적용 가능성을 검증하기 위해 강의실이 밀집한 대학교의 한 건물에서 신호 유효 범위 측정 실험을 진행한 결과, 에지 노드의 비콘 신호 범위 내에서 정상적으로 기기 정보를 수집하고, 수집한 정보를 바탕으로 특정 사용자들에게 신속하게 화재 경보를 전송함을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 수시로 변하는 출입자들의 정보를 유동적으로 수집하고, 이를 바탕으로 사용자와 매우 인접한 스마트기기로 경보를 전송함으로써 '경보의 사각지대 문제'를 해결하는데 적용할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 실험 결과 분석을 통해 제안하는 화재 경보 시스템을 실내 공간의 특징에 따라 효과적으로 적용하는 방안을 제시하였다.

기계경비의 오경보 관리방안 (A Study on the False Alarm Management of Alarm Monitoring Service)

  • 본 연구는 문헌연구를 기초로 기계경비서비스의 공급자인 기계경비업체의 서비스 담당자와 인터뷰를 실시하여 그 결과를 분석하여 오경보 관리방안을 제시하였다. 고객의 실수로 인한 오경보를 줄이기 위해 고객 시설의 특성에 맞는 교육도구의 제공이 필요하며, 고객의 실수에 의해 불필요한 출동이 이루어 졌을 경우 일정한 금액의 출동수수료를 고객에게 부과할 수 있는 제도적 합의를 도출할 필요가 있다. 기기의 결함 및 설치 등으로 인해 발생하는 오경보 문제를 개선하기 위하여 기기의 기술기준과 설치기준을 표준화 하는 것이 필요하며, 오경보에 영향을 많이 주는 열선감지기의 성능을 개선하기 위한 새로운 형태의 감지기 개발이 필요하다. 오경보에 대한 용어의 정의와 사용자에 대한 오경보 방지 교육내용을 보다 전문적이고 세부적인 가이드라인 형태로 규정화 하는 것이 필요하다.

  • Emergency lantern is an escape equipment of fire fighting. This equipment of obligation installation in buildings. But, We cast doubt on this equipment's reliability. Therefor we have need to study of this equipment's reliability. This paper research general emergency lantern for up grade reliability. For connection to fire alarm system, alarm for get lost general emergency lantern, and pilot lamp for interruption of electric power, and charge to rechargeable battery in general emergency lantern from fire alarm system. Then view very good result in reliability.

화재감지기의 오보 감소를 위한 구조 신뢰도 분석 (Structural Reliability Analysis of Automatic Fire Detectors for Reduction of False Alarms)

  • Now it is reported that there are many companies and factories which confront to the problem of false alarm in Automatic Fire Detecting System (AFDS). Though an AFDS is a high-priced and very important device in detecting a fire. the problem degrades the reliability and utility, eventually faith. of the system. This is a research concerned about the problem of false alarm of fire detectors in an AFDS. Structure of detectors was modeled up as a general K out-of n system. and reliability characteristics including false alarm rate and missed alarm rate, are derived from it. For decision of an optimal structure of detectors. preliminary analysis on various criteria is accomplished. It is concluded that appropriate modification of a detector with plural sensors may increase the system reliability and decrease the false alarm rate.

  • Automatic fire alarm system is set up to automatically detect fire on buildings. Because of economic reasons, P-type receiver and a conventional type fire detector is normally used for automatic fire alarm system in Korea. Because early detection of fire is regarded as important, the need of finding technique of fire location increases. This paper is studied a method to improve a reliability and add a function of fire location detection on a conventional type fire detector and P-type receiver. Fire location is detected by a method that controller attached on the receiver and the detector is read with a time lag. A reliability of fire detection alarm system is improved with a method that false fire alarm is able to decrease using two different principle detector together. This paper is studied for basic data of improvement of low-cost addressable automatic fire alarm system.

Development of a foaling alarm system using an accelerometer

  • Horse breeders suffer massive economic losses due to dystocia, abortion, and stillbirths. In Thoroughbred mares, breeders often miss the foaling process because approximately 86% of the foaling events occur from 19:00 to 7:00; consequently, breeders cannot assist mares experiencing dystocia. To solve this problem, various foaling alarm systems have been developed. However, there is a need to develop a new system to overcome the shortcomings of the existing devices and improve their accuracy. To this end, the present study aimed to (1) develop a novel foaling alarm system and (2) compare its accuracy with that of the existing FoalertTM system. Specifically, eighteen Thoroughbred mares (11.9 ± 4.0 years old) were included. An accelerometer was used to analyze specific foaling behaviors. Behavioral data were transmitted to a data server every second. Depending on the acceleration value, behaviors were automatically classified by the server as categorized behaviors 1 (behaviors without change in body rotation), 2 (behaviors with sudden change in body rotation, such as rolling over), and 3 (behaviors with long-term change in body rotation, such as lying down laterally). The system was designed to alarm when the duration of categorized behaviors 2 and 3 was 12.9% and that of categorized behavior 3 was 1% during 10 min. The system measured the duration of each categorized behavior every 10 min and transmitted an alarm to the breeders when foaling was detected. To confirm its accuracy, the foaling detection time of the novel system was compared with that of FoalertTM. The novel foaling alarm system and FoalertTM alarmed foaling onset respectively 32.6 ± 17.9 and 8.6 ± 1.0 min prior to foal discharge, and the foaling detection rate of both systems was 94.4%. Therefore, the novel foaling alarm system equipped with an accelerometer can precisely detect and alert foaling onset.

공동주택 화재경보 발생음 특성에 관한 실험연구 (Experimental study on the sound attenuation of the fire alarm sounder system in apartment buildings)

  • In many fire emergencies, the audible fire alarm signals are very important to save the occupant's life. But as the sound insulation of building elements has been improved, it is more difficult for occupant to recognize the fire alarm signals when the fire alarm worked. This is the study to show the sound attenuation of the fire alarm sounder system in apartment buildings. We measured and analyzed the sound attenuation level in 17 units, and the results were compared with the minimum sound level at sleeping area by NFPA(National Fire Protection Association) 72. When only the fire alarm worked in stair hall, the sound levels in bedroom were in the range of $30.6{\sim}42.8dB(A)$ and the differences between sound level and ambient sound level in bedrooms were in the range of $7.1{\sim}13.8dB(A)$. And when the emergency broadcasting device in the livingroom and the fire alarm worked simultaneously, the sound levels in bedrooms were in the range of $54.2{\sim}63.0dBA$. Finally, it was showed that the fire alarm sounder system didn't give a sufficient sound level in bedroom to awake out of sleep.

기계경비시스템 오경보 이벤트 분석을 위한 데이터마이닝 기법 연구 (A Study of Data Mining Methodology for Effective Analysis of False Alarm Event on Mechanical Security System)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 효율적인 기계경비시스템 오경보 이벤트 분석을 위해 가장 적합한 데이터마이닝 기법을 도출하는데 있다. 이를 위해 기계경비시스템 오경보의 발생원인을 살펴보고, 오경보 시의 출동건수, 오경보율 그리고 오경보원인의 통계자료를 토대로한 데이터를 데이터마이닝 프로그램인 WEKA에 맞게 변환시켜 여러 알고리즘에 적용 및 분석하였다. 본 논문에서는 적합한 데이터마이닝 기법을 찾기 위해 Decision Tree, Naive Bayes, BayesNet Apriori, J48Tree 알고리즘을 활용하였고, 분석을 통해 생성된 가장 높은 값을 도출하여 해당 알고리즘의 적용 가능성을 확인하였다. 이와 같은 연구를 통해 효율적으로 기계경비시스템의 오경보를 예측하고, 오경보에 대한 보다 효율적인 대처방안을 모색할 수 있음을 보여주었다.
