Use of finite and infinite elements in static analysis of pavement

  • In recent years, study of the static response of pavements to moving vehicle and aircraft loads has received significant attention because of its relevance to the design of pavements and airport runways. The static response of beams resting on an elastic foundation and subjected to moving loads was studied by several researchers in the past. However, most of these studies were limited to steady-state analytical solutions for infinitely long beams resting on Winkler-type elastic foundations. Although the modelling of subgrade as a continuum is more accurate, such an approach can hardly be incorporated in analysis due to its complexity. In contrast, the two-parameter foundation model provides a better way for simulating the underlying soil medium and is conceptually more appealing than the one-parameter (Winkler) foundation model. The finite element method is one of the most suitable mathematical tools for analysing rigid pavements under moving loads. This paper presents an improved solution algorithm based on the finite element method for the static analysis of rigid pavements under moving vehicular or aircraft loads. The concrete pavement is discretized by finite and infinite beam elements, with the latter for modelling the infinity boundary conditions. The underlying soil medium is modelled by the Pasternak model allowing the shear interaction to exist between the spring elements. This can be accomplished by connecting the spring elements to a layer of incompressible vertical elements that can deform in transverse shear only. The deformations and forces maintaining equilibrium in the shear layer are considered by assuming the shear layer to be isotropic. A parametric study is conducted to investigate the effect of the position of moving loads on the response of pavement.

실내모형시험을 통한 연약지반의 쉴드 TBM 터널굴착 모사 (Simulation of shield TBM tunneling in soft ground by laboratory model test)

  • 본 논문에서는 연약지반에 건설되는 Shield TBM 터널의 시공기술을 제시하였다. 이 연구를 수행하기 위하여 Shield TBM 장비를 축소 제작하여 축소모형 시험을 수행하였으며, 쉴드터널 굴착을 모사하기 위하여 다양한 장비들이 적용되었다. 또한 축소모형시험 중 Shield TBM 장비로 인해 발생되는 지반의 거동을 계측하였으며, 지반의 안정성은 시뮬레이션 결과를 토대로 평가하였다. 이를 바탕으로 쉴드터널의 안전한 시공을 위한 기초자료로 활용하고자 한다. 결론적으로 Shield-TBM 구간에 대한 실내축소모형시험을 통하여 설계의 신뢰성을 확보하고, 시공 시 안전을 위한 개선사항 등과 특히, Shield TBM 추진시 쉴드터널이 통과하는 공항 활주로의 안정성을 확보하기 위한 시공방안을 제시하고자 한다.

다중 배제분석을 이용한 강원도 내 풍력발전단지 유망후보지 선정 (The Selection of Promising Wind Farm Sites in Gangwon Province using Multi Exclusion Analysis)

  • Promising onshore wind farm sites in Gangwon province of Korea were investigated in this study. Gangwon province was divided into twenty five simulation regions and a commercial program based on Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equation was used to find out wind resource maps of the regions. The national wind atlas with a period 2007-2009 developed by Korea institute of energy research was used as climatologies. The wind resource maps were combined to construct a wind resource map of Gangwon province with a horizontal spatial resolution of 100m. In addition to the wind resource, national environmental zoning map, distance from substation, residence and automobile road, Beakdudaegan mountain range, terrain slope, airport and military reservation district were considered to find out promising wind farm sites. A commercial wind farm design program was used to find out developable wind farm capacities in promising wind farm site with and without excluding environmental protection regions. The total wind farm capacities with and without excluding the protection regions were estimated to be 46MW and 598MW, respectively, when a 2MW commercial wind turbine was employed.

  • 항만 및 공장용지 확보를 위한 해안 매립 시 해저 펌프준설 등의 방법을 이용하여 준설토를 활용하고 있으며, 육상의 경우에도 조립준설토를 성토재로 활용하려는 노력이 진행되고 있다. 서해안 지역의 해저바닥에 분포하는 원지반은 실트질 모래 또는 모래질 실트가 남해안과 동해안에 비해서 많이 분포하고 있고, 다른 연안에 비해 입자 또한 크다. 이러한 특성을 지닌 준설토는 침강과 압밀의 과정도 준설점토와 다른 거동 특성을 보인다. 본 연구에서는 서해안 지역의 비소성준설토를 매립재료로 활용하기 위한 연구의 일환으로 서해안(새만금)지역의 준설매립지반에 대해 모형실험을 실시하여 동다짐 에너지 변화에 따른 원지반의 상대밀도 및 N값의 변화를 예측할 수 있는 예측식을 제안하고, 효율적인 지반설계를 위한 동다짐 에너지를 산정하였다.

Analysis of Korean Import and Export in the Semiconductor Industry: A Global Supply Chain Perspective

  • Purpose - Semiconductors are a significant export item for Korea that is expected to continue to contribute significantly to the Korean economy in the future. Thus, the semiconductor industry is a critical component in the 4th Industrial Revolution and is expected to continue growing as the non-face-to-face economy expands as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, this paper aims to empirically investigate how semiconductors are imported and exported in Korea from a global supply chain perspective by analysing import and export data at the micro-level. Design/methodology - This study conducts a multifaceted analysis of the global supply chain for semiconductors and related equipment in Korea by examining semiconductor imports and exports by semiconductor type, year, target country, mode of transportation, airport/port, and domestic region, using import/export micro-data. The visualisation, flow analysis, and Bayesian Network methodologies were used to compensate for the limitations of each method. Findings - Korea is a major exporter of semiconductor memory and has the world's highest competitiveness but is relatively weak in the field of system semiconductors. The trade deficit in 'semiconductor equipment and parts' is clearly growing. As a result, continued investment in 'system semiconductors' and 'semiconductor equipment and parts' technology development is necessary to boost exports and ensure a stable supply chain. Originality/value - Few papers on semiconductor trade in Korea have been published from the perspective of the global supply chain or value chain. This study contributes to the literature in this area by focusing on import and export data for the global supply chain of the Korean semiconductor industry using a variety of approaches. It is our hope that the insights gained from this study will aid in the advancement of SCM research.

토목섬유-정규압밀점토의 접촉면 동적 전단거동 평가 (Dynamic Shear Behaviors on the Normally Consolidation Clay-Geosynthetic Interface)

  • 본 연구에서는 토목섬유-점토의 접촉면 압밀 전단거동 평가를 위하여 상재하중 및 해수와 담수를 이용해 토목섬유-점토의 경계면에 대한 중요 특성인자를 규명하였다. 또한 폐기물 매립으로 바다에 매립공간을 확보하고 폐기물 처리 및 향후 토지이용 등 새롭게 필요 공간으로 변모가 가능하다. 토목섬유-점토의 접촉면에 거동특성을 분석한 결과 표준 압밀시험기를 이용하여 분석한 경우 해수보다 담수에서 압밀응력이 크게 증가하는 경향을 보였고, 동적 접촉면 전단 시험기를 이용하여 분석한 경우 해수와 담수 두 개의 조건에서 모두 동일하게 하부모듈에 가까운 와이어게이지일수록 변위값이 증가하고, 담수보다 해수의 조건에서 전단파괴가 급격히 일어나는 경향을 볼 수 있다. 따라서 토목섬유-점토의 접촉면에 작용하는 해수와 담수, 차수시설 설치여부(토목섬유)는 차수 시설 동적설계인자에 반드시 필요한 중요 변수로써 고려하여야 한다.

실대형 하중재하 시험 및 현장계측을 통한 쉴드터널 세그먼트 안정성 분석 (Stability analysis of shield tunnel segment lining by field measurement and full scale bending test)

  • 쉴드터널은 직경 3~4 m 규모의 전력구 등에 주로 적용되었으나, 최근 직경 7~8 m 규모의 쉴드터널이 인천국제공항 활주로 하부에 시공되었으며, 한강 하저구간 도로 및 철도터널 시공완료 및 계획중에 있다. 쉴드터널 단면이 증가함에 따라 세그먼트 또한 대형화되고 있으며, 이로 인하여 세그먼트의 설계, 시공 및 성능평가 시 여러 문제점이 야기되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 직경 약 8 m 규모의 쉴드터널에 대한 현장계측 및 실대형 하중재하 시험을 통하여 쉴드터널 세그먼트 라이닝 구조적 안정성 분석, 축력을 고려한 세그먼트 사용성 검토방안의 적합성 및 품질관리 방안에 대하여 검토하였다.

Analysis of surface settlement troughs induced by twin shield tunnels in soil: A case study

  • This paper analyzes the ground surface settlements induced by side-by-side twin shield tunnels bored in sedimentary soils, which primarily consist of sand with clay strata above the tunnel crown. The measurements were obtained during the construction of twin tunnels underneath the Incheon International Airport (IIA) located in Korea. The measured surface settlement troughs are approximated with Gaussian functions. The trough width parameters i and K of the settlement troughs produced by the first and second tunnel passings are determined, along with those for the total settlement trough. The surface settlement troughs produced by the first shield passing are reasonably represented by a symmetric Gaussian curve. The surface settlement troughs induced by the second shield tunnel display marginal asymmetric shapes at selected sections. The total settlement troughs are fitted both with a shifted symmetric Gaussian function and the superposition method utilizing an asymmetric function for the incremental trough produced by the second tunnel. It is revealed that the superposition method does not always produce better fits with the total settlement. Instead, the shifted symmetric Gaussian function is overall demonstrated to provide more favorable agreements with the recordings. Therefore, the shifted symmetric Gaussian function is recommended to be used in the design for the prediction of the settlement in clays caused by twin tunneling considering the simplicity of the procedure compared with the superposition method. The amount of increase in the width parameter K for the twin tunnel relative to that for the single tunnel is quantified, which can be used for a preliminary estimate of the surface settlement in clay induced by twin shield tunnels.

교통 소음과 정신건강 지표 간의 상관성: 생태학적 연구 (Correlation between Traffic Noise and Mental Health Indices in Cities: An Ecological Study)

  • Background: Noise has been linked to an increased risk of various health issues, including stress, anxiety, insomnia, and cardiovascular disorders. However, research on the relationship between residential traffic noise and mental health in South Korea is limited. Objectives: This study aims to examine the correlation between regional traffic noise levels and mental health using an ecological study design. Methods: In this ecological study, all data were collected from the Korean Statistical Information Service. Traffic noise data in residential areas and the prevalence of mental health indices in 44 cities with noise monitoring stations were obtained. Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated to assess the relationship between regional traffic noise levels and mental health indices. Results: Daytime traffic noise levels were found to have a positive correlation with stress perception (r=0.428, p=0.004) and showed a borderline positive correlation with depressive symptom prevalence (r=0.273, p=0.073). In cities with airports, significant correlations was observed between 24-hour average noise levels and depressive symptoms (r=0.604, p=0.010), whereas this relationship was not observed in cities without airports (r=0.048, p=0.813). Multiple regression analysis, which adjusted for factors such as age, gender ratio, smoking, obesity, unemployment, urban size, and the presence of an airport, confirmed the relationship between 24-hour average noise levels and stress perception (beta=0.287, p=0.024). Conclusions: This study identified correlations between regional traffic noise levels and depressive symptoms or stress perception in adults, with a more pronounced effect in areas with airports. These findings suggest a potential impact of residential traffic noise on mental health, highlighting the importance of preventive measures like noise management in urban planning to promote mental well-being.

교통 연계 환승 시스템의 보행자 위치정보 수집을 위한 POI 기반 위치 보정 기술 연구 (A Study of Correcting Technology based POI for Pedestrian Location-information Detecting in Traffic Connective Transferring System)

  • 교통연계 환승센터를 이용하는 보행자에게 다양한 정보의 수집 및 가공을 통한 실시간 맞춤형 정보를 제공하기 위해 테스트베드(김포공항)의 통신환경 설계 및 효율적인 보행자 위치측위의 보정기술을 연구하였다. 통신환경 구축을 위한 설계는 환승 센터 구역에서 이용자에게 신뢰성이 보장된 데이터 전송이 가능하여야 한다. 또한, 위치 측위를 위해 고려 되어야 할 사항도 병행하여 검토해야 한다. 따라서 우리는 데이터 통신과 위치 측위 효율을 동시에 만족하는 통신환경 설계를 수행하였다. 그리고 효율적인 위치 측위 기술 적용을 위해 상용기술 기반의 실시간 위치 인식에 관련한 문제를 판단하고 문제를 해결하고자 새로운 접근 방법을 고안하여 테스트베드에 적용 및 분석하였다. 본 논문에서 전자지도상에 실제 건물이 가지고 있는 특성(구조물)을 인가하여 실제 환경과 최대한 흡사한 상황에서 무선접속점(AP: Access Point)을 위치시켰으며, 각각의 위치에서 특정한 조건을 만족하도록 통신환경 구축 설계를 수행하였다. 또한, 교통연계 환승 서비스에서 보행자 위치측위를 필요로 하는 주요지점(POI:Point Of Interest)을 기준점으로 설정하고 해당 지점을 표출할 수 있도록 하는 방법을 고안하였다. 그 설정방법과 알고리즘에 대해서 테스트베드에서의 실험을 통해 얻어진 원시데이터를 바탕으로 시뮬레이션 수행하고 그 결과에 대해서 소개하고자 한다.
