항공기 배출량 산정 방법에 따른 공항주변 대기오염 영향분석연구 (Impact of Air Pollutant Emissions from Aircraft on the Air Pollution around Airport)

  • Emissions from aircraft have impacts on the air pollution of airport and the surrounding area. There are methods of emissions calculated as Tier 1, Tier2, Tier 3A and Tier 3B. Thus, this study investigated emissions from aircraft at the Gimhae International Airport using EDMS(Emissions & Dispersion Modeling System) program. Results of estimation from aviation emissions, Tier 3B considering all parts which can occur at the airport has the largest amount emissions. In order to understand the relation between aviation emissions and distribution of ozone concentration over airport area, numerical evaluation were carried out. Although the difference of surface ozone distribution between numerical assessment with and without aviation emissions was little, effects of air pollution at airport area from aviation emissions of NOx and VOCs.

공항 여객터미널 여객동선체계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Passenger Circulation system of the Airport Passenger Terminal)

  • At a passenger terminal which is a core facility of a large-scale airport, users are not easy to recognize its space and to approach each facility by composition of large-scale space not recognized at a glance and arrangement of complicated functional space. Such a passenger terminal should be designed by putting a focus on functionality, safety and convenience since diverse passengers use it. At a passenger terminal, a lot of passengers' circulation followed by diverse purpose appear. Therefore, it needs a lot of functional space and space to satisfy passengers' demands. When circulation is planed, it should be designed by a systematic standard. The study was carried out on the basis of international airports, considering features and functions of airport circulation system. In kind of circulation in passenger terminal of an airport, there are user's circulation (passenger's circulation, employee's circulation and service circulation) and baggage circulation. The study examined passenger's circulation which was a major circulation of passenger terminal out of user's circulation. The study examined elements which had an effect on circulation system at a large-scale airport passenger terminal and basic data for an efficient circulation system standard of passenger terminal through case analysis of passenger terminal circulation systems at international airports.

제주국제공항의 지연과 Turnaround Time 간의 상관관계 분석 (Correlation Analysis between Delay and Turnaround Time at Jeju International Airport)

  • The capacity of Jeju International Airport has reached its limit due to a surge in air traffic demand such as passengers and cargo and the continuous expansion of Low Cost Carriers (LCC). Despite COVID-19 that has began in November 2019, Jeju International Airport still has continuous demand in terms of passenger and cargo transportation. As a result, it is undeniable that the delay rate also unexpectedly increased as the air traffic volume at Jeju International Airport continued to increase. In this study, the correlation between Turnaround Time and delay rates of national airlines is analyzed based on past flight data at Jeju International Airport, and the cumulative delay time trend for sampled airlines is compared with Turnaround Time. Through this study, it is expected to contribute to securing aircraft operation efficiency and on-time by analyzing delays related to Turnaround Time at Jeju International Airport.

실시간 공항정보 제공에 대한 이용자 지속사용 의도에 관한 실증연구 (An Empirical Study on the User's Continuous Use Intention to Provide Real-Time Airport Information)

  • Recently, the airport operator provides information such as real-time airport processing status, which allows users to determine the time to arrive at the airport at their own judgment. It is provided through their website and mobile Apps in order to resolve the customer's failure to board the aircraft and the inconvenience caused by waiting for the airport, etc. However, there was a lack of research cases on the intention of users to continue using such real-time airport information. Therefore, research on the field was studied by applying flow and trust theory based on human emotions. The research method verified reliability, validity, correlation between variables, and hypotheses using structural equations. As a result of the study, it was found that flow and trust had a significant effect on the intention to continue using. In other words, passengers were intended to continue to use the behavior they were searching for when they felt wise, enjoyable, and reliable etc.

  • The global economy and the air transport business have been affected since the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. As countries tighten restrictions on international movements, the growing emphasis on air cargo puts pressure on airports to maintain and upgrade their cargo policies, facilities, and operations. Hence, ensuring the competitiveness of cargo airports becomes pivotal for airports survival under the volatile global demand. The study aims to evaluate the importance of the competitiveness factors for cargo airports and identify areas for further improvement. The study applies the Best-Worst Method (BWM) to assess the cargo airports' competitiveness factors: 'Transport Capacity,' 'Airport Operations and Facility Capacity,' 'Economic Growth,' 'Financial Performance,' and 'Airport Brand Value.' The selected airports include Heathrow Airport, Aéroport de Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Hong Kong International Airport, and Incheon International Airport. The results identify 'Transport Capacity' as the most significant competitiveness factor, and Hong Kong International Airport the best performing cargo airport. This research forms a reference framework for evaluating cargo airports' competitive position, which may help identify airports' relative strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, this framework can also serve as a tool facilitating the strategic design of airports that may accommodate both air cargo and passenger demand flexibly under the demand uncertainty.

Developing Airport Safety Performance Indicators and Index - The Case of Incheon Airport Airside -

  • An indicator system is an effective way to monitor ongoing safety status. Current aviation safety measurements account for many qualitative technical and lagging indicators. Conversely, quantitative and leading indicators have only a tiny proportion. This research added more quantitative leading indicators and reviewed them to harmonize lagging and leading indicators to measure airport safety and provide an index. The South Korean national gate, Incheon International Airport's indicators, were applied as primary data to verify this research practically. Then, examples from International and national authorities were reviewed and extracted for use. Fifty-five safety specialists participated in the focus group discussion and three rounds of the Delphi survey. Finally, 51 sub-indicators were newly chosen. After this process, weights for each indicator could be assigned using the AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) to provide an integrated index. The result of the simulation with newly added indicators in the past five years (2020-2022) reliable trend showed in indicators and integrated index. Moreover, this allows monitoring the status of the details of indicators and holistic insight. This study considered that it is more suitable for a single company or service provider to use it according to the exact situation than in a macro- and general-purpose at the country or regional level.

  • In response to the continuously increasing demand for air travel, various studies are being conducted. This research focuses on the design of a simulation model for improving airport slot allocation in the strategic phase. It addresses three aspects of model design, introducing considerations such as the objective function. Additionally, it explains the conceptual procedures for the overall simulation operation and detailed processes within the model including input and output data. Emphasizing the SAL, this study excludes policy and qualitative judgments from its scope. The target airport for application will be confirmed in future research. This study marks a crucial first step toward optimizing air traffic flow, with expectations of contributing to the enhancement of operational efficiency at airports.

항공화물 활성화를 위한 정책분석과 지방공항 발전방안 연구: 청주국제공항을 중심으로 (A Study on the Growth of Air Cargo Volume and the Development Plan for Regional Airport Focusing on Cheonng-Ju Int'l Airport)

  • Responding to rapid changes of global supply chain and fast increasing air cargo volume and demand for e-commerce market, this paper researched the development plans for regional airport specially focused on air cargo logostics through policy research. According to this research, political implications and development plans for Cheong Ju airport (CJJ) to become a part of global supply chain, a regional air cargo hub. Firstly, it is necessary to increase the length of the existing runway from 2,744m to 3,200m or to develop 3rd runway only for a civil aircraft use. Secondly, it is inevitable to develop new air cargo terminal to handle and export such high value-added products as semi-conductor or rechargeable battery through airport. In addition, facing re-shoring trends among global supply chain, CJJ can increase its air cargo volume and also provide feeder service to Incheon airport, inducing global distribution center near airport site.

  • In domestic airport planning, capacity assessment traditionally focuses on comparing demand forecasts with runway capacity to identify saturation periods, which overlooks operational characteristics. Even when demand does not exceed capacity, prolonged near-capacity utilization can cause significant operational issues. Therefore, it is crucial to consider operational characteristics in capacity assessments to ensure stable airport operations and efficient development planning. This study uses the Capacity Coverage Chart to analyze the operational characteristics of Incheon Airport and major international airports. Based on the analysis, it suggests improving airspace and air traffic control procedures and utilizing off-peak hours to enhance operational efficiency at Incheon Airport. However, due to geopolitical constraints, increasing operational capacity at Incheon Airport is challenging. Thus, continuous efforts to expand infrastructure are necessary to meet future demand and prevent facility saturation.

복수 활주로 운영 공항의 활주로 길이 산정에 관한 연구 (The Study on the Process of Runway Length Determination for Airport with Multiple Runways )

  • The determination of runway length is critical for ensuring adequate airport size and stable operating conditions. This study aims to present a methodology for calculating the optimal length of the fifth runway at Incheon International Airport, considering the operating characteristics of the aircraft, airport conditions, and environmental factors. Domestic guidelines currently lack specificity in selecting design aircraft and applying aircraft weight standards, especially for large airports with multiple runways, posing a challenge for additional runway construction. This research conducts a case study on the length determination of Incheon International Airport's fifth runway, suggesting a procedure for large airports that takes into account various factors such as design aircraft selection, weight, and airfield characteristics. Our findings recommend an optimal runway length that accommodates all aircraft operating at the airport, ensuring efficient and economic expansion tailored to the future aviation landscape.
