  • Good plant-growth conditions can be achieved by means of using greenhouses. One of the main issues in greenhouse cultivation is energy savings through the development of high efficient heating and cooling system. GSHPs are one of the recommended systems to cope with this pending need. The aim of this study is to investigate the heating performance of ground source multi-heat pump system installed in a greenhouse under part load conditions. Daily average heating COP of the heat pump unit was very high by at least 7.4, because of relatively large condenser, evaporator, and mass flow rate through ground loop heat exchanger. However, the system COP, overall heating coefficient of the performance of the system with heat pump unit and GLHX, decreased drastically due to relatively large power consumption of circulating pump under part load condition. It is suggested that the technology to enhance the performance of the ground source multi-heat pump system for a greenhouse under part load conditions should be developed.

  • Through the 2014 Donbas conflict and the 2022 Ukraine-Russia war, we are experiencing that the command of the air is no longer only secured by the Air Force. Long-range surveillance reconnaissance and strikes carried out by the Air Force could be replaced by drones and missiles, and the enemy's aerial attacks could be controlled by air defense systems such as Panchir and portable anti-aircraft missiles, allowing ground forces to carry out maneuvers freely. In other words, it is much more advantageous for the air force and the navy to take control of the air through long-distance operations, and the ground forces should support them. Therefore, this study aims to consider the cost-effectiveness aspect of the delivery command of the air; it provides implications for quickly responding to enemy air attacks by developing the air defense weapon system, drones, missiles, precision-guided munitions, etc rather than focusing on expensive fighter jets.

  • The main objective of the present study is to investigate the performance characteristics of a ground-source heat pump(GSHP) system with a 130 m vertical and 62 mm nominal diameter U-tube ground heat exchanger. In order to evaluate the performance analysis, the ground-source heat pump connected to a test room with $90\;m^2$ floor area in the Korea Institute of Construction $Technology(37^{\circ}39'N,\;126^{\circ}48'E)$ was designed and constructed. This ground-source heat pump system mainly consisted of ground heat exchanger, indoor heat pumps and measuring devices. The cooling and heating loads of the test room were 5.5 and 7.2 kW at design conditions, respectively. The experimental results were obtained from July 2, 2003 to July 1, 2004. The cooling and heating performance coefficients of the system were determined from the measured data. The average cooling and heating COPs for the system were obtained to be 4.90 and 3.96, respectively. The temperature variations in ground and the ground heat exchanger pipe surface at different depths were also measured.

  • In this paper, the liquid air was selected as the refrigerant in artificial ground freezing to be used for rapid ground freezing and to reduce the risk of suffocation and the applicability of liquid air was verified. In order to evaluate the stability of the liquid air, the oxygen concentration of mixtures with liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen was experimentally examined to meet the oxygen concentration criteria in the Occupational Safety and Health Act. In addition, the effects of the mixture ratio of liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen, pressure and flow rate change in the storage vessel on the oxygen concentration in the liquid air were investigated. As a result, the ratio of liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen 8: 2 was shown to meet the oxygen concentration standards. Pressure and flow rate change in the storage vessel did not have significant effects on the oxygen concentration in the liquid air.

  • A ground source heat pump system should be equipped with devices to measure the generated heating or cooling heat amount in Korea. Generally, the heat measuring devices have been developed to estimate consumed heat amount in residential or commercial buildings from a central air-conditioning system or a district heating system. In this study, two representive heat measuring devices used for buildings were selected, and the accuracy of them were experimentally estimated at the ground source heat pump operating conditions. The obtained heat amounts from the heat measuring devices were deviated within 4.3% comparing with the precise values calculated from an accredited test facility. Even though the accumulated heat amount values of the heat measuring devices had a small difference comparing with the precise values, the temperatures of heat measuring devices showed greatly different values comparing with the precise temperature. Therefore, it is highly recommended to develop the heat measuring devices which is appropriate for the ground source heat pump systems.

  • Recently, ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems have attracted much attention, according to the enhanced social demand of renewable energy. GSHP systems can achieve higher coefficient of performance than the conventional air-source heat pump systems by utilizing stable underground temperature. However, the initial cost of GSHP system is higher than that of the conventional systems, especially, in the small-size buildings. Therefore, it is necessary to develop small-size ground heat exchanger with low cost and quick installation. In this study, a unit-type ground heat exchanger was developed and heat exchange rate was calculated by the numerical simulation. As a result, 27.45 W/m of heat exchange rate was acquired in the condition of $0.5m{\times}0.2m{\times}2m$ unit.

  • Ground source heat pump systems (GSHP) can achieve higher performance of the system, by supplying more efficient heat source to the heat pump, than the conventional air-source heat pump system. But building clients and designers have hesitated to use GSHP systems, due to expensive initial cost, and uncertain economic feasibility. In order to reduce the initial cost, many researches have focused on the energy-pile system, using the structure of the building as a heat exchanger. Even though several experimental studies for the energy-pile system have been conducted, there was not enough data of quantitative evaluation with economic analysis and comprehensive analysis for the energy-pile. In this study, a prediction method has been developed for the energy pile system with barrette pile, using the ground heat transfer model and ground heat exchanger model. Moreover, a feasibility study for the energy pile system with barrette pile was conducted, by performance analysis and LCC assessment. As a result, it was found that the heat exchange rate of a barrette pile was 2.55 kW, and the payback period using LCC analysis was 8.8 years.

  • As CAS, X-ATK, and INT models considered as the most typical Air-to-Ground operation models in ROKAF are mainly designed as the voice-centered system between aircraft and ground control facilities, it is critical to newly develop the Link-16 based model for the ROK-US combined operation between F-15K, AWACS, M-SAM, and KDX-III equipped with Link-16. Former studies had been limited to the CAS operation, and they had mainly focused on reducing the voice transmission time to exchange the information between each mission step with maintaining existing operation steps. Therefore, this paper makes up the weak point in former studies, thereby designing new Air-to-Ground operation model for CAS, X-ATK, INT mission using Enterprise Architecture OV6c, which enables both aircraft and ground control facilities or between aircraft to obtain the real-time information on the location, identification, armament and the real-time image data through the broadcasting function. Based on the analysis of new operation model, we come to a conclusion that by simultaneously exchanging the information on mission between nodes concerned through the broadcasting function of Link-16. It is possible to cut down superfluous steps among the mission steps, and to reduce the mission time. It is clear that it gives rise to improve the battle efficiency and the decision-making tempo as well as the battlefield situational awareness.

  • An air-burst munition is limited in space, so there is a limit on the size of the fuze and the amount of ammunition. In order to increase a firepower to a target with limited ammunition, it is necessary to concentrate the firepower on the ground instead of the omnidirectional explosion after flying to the target. This paper explores the design and verification of a ground-detection sensor that detects the direction of the ground and determines the flight-distance of an air-burst munition using a single axis geomagnetic sensor. Prior to the design of the ground detection sensor, a geomagnetic sensor model mounted on the spinning air-burst munition is analyzed and a ground-detection algorithm by simplifying this model is designed. A high speed rotating device to simulate a rotation environment is designed and a geomagnetic sensor and a remote-recording system are fabricated to obtain geomagnetic data. The ground detection algorithm is verified by post-processing the acquired geomagnetic data. Taking miniaturization and low-power into consideration, the ground detection sensor is implemented with analog devices and the processor. The output signal of the ground detection sensor rotating at an arbitrary rotation speed of 200 Hz is connected to the LED (Light Emitting Diode) in the high speed rotating device and the ground detection sensor is verified using a high-speed camera.
