In order to improve efficiency, an outdoor unit using a refrigerant cooling method is designed into many air conditioner systems. The heat exchanger is composed of a Cu tube and an plate. The optimal design for the cold plate is very important because the efficiency of the heat transfer depends on the contact area between the Cu tube and the cold plate. The current study focused on the design of the cold plate to obtain a uniform contact between the Cu tube and the cold plate. Both FE(finite element) analysis and optimization were used in the design. The contact area between the tube and plate was predicted and improved by 16% through the press forming simulations. The springback after press forming was also reduced when the optimized design parameters were used. To verify the validity of the optimal cold plate design, a verification test was conducted. As a result, the performance of the heat exchanger improved by 34% when compared to benchmarked products.
The objective of the present study is to develope a propultion unit cooling system for the next-generation High-speed EMU. The propulsion power control unit consists of some IGBT semiconductors. In general, those power semiconductors are very sensitive to temperatures and need a cooling system to keep them at a proper operational conditions in the range of $50{\sim}100^{\circ}C$. In this first year of study, we tried to focuss on the understanding of fundamental technologies for each of the two different cooling systems and collecting basic data for design and manufacturing for both cases. For the water cooling system, a heat sink with multi channels of liquid flow was considered and a model unit was designed and performance test was conducted. For the heat pipe cooling system, a Loop Heat Pipe(LHP) was considered as an element to transport heat from IGBT to environment air flow and a model unit was designed and performance test was conducted. The analysis using SINDA/FLUINT showed that those design parameters are good enough for the LHP to properly operate under a heat load up to around 360W.
This paper treats TEGS(Thermo-Electric Generation System) by using two different metals which have N and P types of thermo-electric characteristics respectively. Heat source is the thermal energy from the oxidative reaction of methanol and catalyst. Heat sink is an air cooling system (fan and heat sink). 4 TEMS of $40{\times}40mm$ of TEGS with 500ml methanol produce the electric power of maximum 6W and average 5W for 9 hours.

Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) systems utilize geothermal energy as a thermal source or sink, for heating, cooling and domestic hot water. It is well known that GSHP is environmentally friendly, and saves energy dramatically. For this reason, many investigative researches have been conducted on commercial and governmental buildings. However, studies on residential GSHP are few, because of the small capacity and cost. In this study, we experimented with the characteristic performance of heating, cooling and seasonal performance factor for a residential GSHP system, which consisted of two 180 m deep u-tube ground heat exchangers, a heat pump and measurement instruments. The installed capacity of the heat pump was 5RT, and the conditioning area was $62.23m^2$. From the experimental results, the cooling COP of the heat pump was 4.13, and the system COP was 3.51, while the CSPF was 3.32. On the other hand, the heating COP of the heat pump was 3.87, and the system COP was 3.39, while the HSPF was 3.39. Also, in-situ cooling COP and capacity were 93.7% and 96.4% compared with the EWT certification data, respectively, and that of heating were 98.3% and 95.7%, respectively.
The steady three-dimensional numerical analysis on the thermal flow using standard k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model was carried out to investigate the air cooling effect of a cooler on the cabin for a commercial vehicle. Here, the heat exchanging method of this cabin cooler uses the cooling effect of a thermoelectric module. In consequence, the air system resistance of a cooler within the cabin is about 12.1 Pa as a static pressure, and then the operating point of a virtual cross-flow fan considering in this study is formed in the comparatively low flowrate region. The discharging air temperature of a cooler is about $14{\sim}15^{\circ}C$. Moreover, the air cooling temperature difference obtained under the outdoor cabin temperature of $40^{\circ}C$ shows about $7{\sim}9^{\circ}C$ in a driver resting space and about $9{\sim}14^{\circ}C$ in the front of a driver's seat including the space of a driver's foot.

Geothermal heat pump system has been spotlighted as an efficient building energy system, because it has great potentials for reducing energy in building air conditioning and reducing $CO_2$ emissions. However, higher initial cost is a barrier to the promotion of its use. Energy-pile and energy-slab are known as low cost ground heat exchangers comparing with conventional ground heat exchangers, because they utilize building structures as ground heat exchangers. This paper presents the daily cooling performance of a geothermal heat pump system with energy-pile and energy-slab. The energy-piles and the energy-slabs are connected to heat pump units in parallel. The cooling capacity of the system was nearly constant due to the stability of the ground heat exchangers. The stability of the energy-pile was a little higher than that of the energy-stab as a heat sink.

A study on convective cooling characteristics has been done in the channels with heat pipes and associated Plane fins Analysis with FLUENT V5.0 lies its Purpose on the possible enhancement of heat transfer capability between an existing three in-line arrayed heatpipes and an extending four in-line arrayed heatpipes with increasing channel width. Numerical analysis is limited to the laminar flow in an isolated flow channel by employing cyclic boundary conditions for calculation purposes. Friction factors for three and four in-line arrayed heatpipes are compared with experimental results. In addition, temperature behavior at the plate fin for the three in-line arrayed heatpipes is compared with experiment. Friction factors and overall channel heat transfer coefficients (and/or Nusselt numbers) are presented as a function of Reynolds number. An increase of number of heatpipes and channel width reults in a decrease of the friction factor and doesn't not result in an increase of heat transfer performance. However. considering the 25$\%$ increase of heat load accompanies with maximum 8$^{\circ}C$ rise of average temperature of heat pipes, the four in-line array with the increase of channel width of heat pipe heat sink can be considered appropriate.
Air-cooling method is adopted on the basis of the requirements for the thermal stability and convenient field use of an electrical source transmitter. The power losses of the transmitter are determined after calculating the losses of the alternating current (AC)-direct current (DC) power supply, the constant-current circuit, and the output circuit. According to the analysis of the characteristics of a heat sink with striped fins and a fan, the engineering calculation expression of the Nusselt number and the design process for air-cooled dissipation are proposed. Experimental results verify that the error between calculated and measured values of the transmitter losses is 12.2%, which meets the error design requirements of less than 25%. Steady-state average temperature rise of the heat sink of the AC-DC power supply is $22^{\circ}C$, which meets the design requirements of a temperature rise between $20^{\circ}C$ and $40^{\circ}C$. The transmitter has favorable thermal stability with 40 kW output power.
