An experimental work was conducted to investigate a feasibility of simultaneous measurement of gas-liquid two-phase flowrates with double orifice plates using air and water. The tests were carried out under the atmospheric pressure and at the ambient temperature using two different tube sizes. Qualities of an air-water flow in the present study have values less than 0.1 and thus the mixed flow showed bubbly, plug, slug flow regimes. The probability density function (PDF) and the power spectral density function (PSDF) of the instantaneous pressure drop traces for the flow regimes were obtained. It is found that some distinctive features exist in the distribution of these functions, depending upon the two-phase flow pattern. The time-averaged value of the instantaneous pressure drop increases with increasing gas and liquid flowrates, showing a single-valued function for the total mass flowrate and the quality. It is also found that the two-phase discharge coefficient exhibits a consistent trend for variation of dimensionless parameters such as the superficial velocity ratio and the gas Reynolds number. The results indicate that simultaneous measurement of two-phase flowrate may be possible based upon a statistical analysis of the instantaneous pressure drop curves monitored using double orifice plates.

A thermal mass air flow sensor, which consists of a micro-heater and thermal sensors on the silicon-nitride thin membrane structure, is micro-fabricated by MEMS processes. Three thermo-resistive sensors, one for the measurement of microheater temperature, the others for the measurement of membrane temperature upstream and downstream of the micro-heater respectively, are used. The micro-heater is operated under the constant temperature difference mode via a real time controller, based on inlet air temperature. Two design models for microfabricated flow sensor are compared with experimental results and confirmed their applicabilities and limitations. The thermal characteristics are measured to find the best flow indicator. It is found that two normalized temperature indicators can be adopted with some advantages in practice. The flow sensor with this control mode can be adopted for wide capability of high speed and sensitivity in the very low and medium velocity ranges.

Experiment and numerical calculation have been peformed to investigate mixed convection heat transfer between inclined parallel plates. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) with thermo-sensitive liquid crystal (TLC) tracers is used for visualizing and analysis. This method allows simultaneous measurement of velocity and temperature fields at a given instant of time. Quantitative data of the temperature and velocity are obtained by applying the color-image processing to a visualized image, and neural network is applied to the color-to-temperature calibration. The governing equations are discretized using the finite volume method. The results are presented for the Reynolds number ranges from 0.004 to 0.062, the angle of inclination, ${\Theta}$, from 0 to 45 degree and Prandtl number of the high viscosity fluid is 909. The results show velocity, temperature and mean Nusselt numbers distributions. It is found that the periodic flow of mixed convection between inclined parallel plates is shown at $0^{\circ}{\leq}{\Theta}<30^{\circ}$, Re<0.062, and the flow pattern can be classified into three patterns which depend on Reynolds number and the angle of inclination. The minimum Nusselt numbers occur at Re=0.05 regardless of the angle of inclination.

The spray characteristics and drop size measurements have been experimentally studied in liquid jets injected into subsonic crossflow. With water as fuel injection velocity, injection angle and atomize. internal flows were varied to provide of jet operation conditions. The injector internal flow was classified as three modes such as a non-cavitation flow, cavitation, and hydraulic flip flows. Pulsed Shadowgraph Photography measurement was used to determine the spatial distribution of the spray droplet diameter in a subsonic crossflow of air. And this study also obtains the SMD (Sauter Mean Diameters) distribution by using Planar Liquid Laser Induced Fluorescence technique. The objectives of this research are get a droplet distributions and drop size measurements of each condition and compare with the other flow effects. As the result, This research has been showned that droplet size were spatially dependent on air-stream velocity, fuel injection velocity, injection angle effects, and normalized distance from the injector exit length(x/d, y/d). There are also different droplet size characteristics between cavitation, hydraulic flip and the non-cavitation flows.

In the present study, the flow characteristics of developing turbulent flows are investigated at the exit region of a square cross-sectional 180" curved duct with dimensions of 40mm$\times$40mm$\times$4000mm (height $\times$ width $\times$length). Smoke particles produced from mosquito coils were used as seed particles for the LDV measurement. Experiments were carried out to measure axial velocity profiles, shear stress distributions and entrance lengths by using an LDV system and Rotating Machinery Resolver RMR with PHASE software. Experimental results clearly show that the time-averaged Reynolds number does not affect oscillatory flow characteristics because the turbulent components tend to balance the oscillatory components in the fully developed flow region. Also, the velocity profiles are in good agreement with 1/7power law such as the results of steady turbulent flows. The turbulent intensity linearly increases along the walls and is slightly higher, especially in the period of deceleration. On the other hand, the LDV measurements show that shear stress values in slightly higher in the period of deceleration due to the flow characteristics in the exit region. The entrance length where flows become stable appears at the point that is 40 times the length of hydraulic diameter.eter.

It was noted by the several researchers that the voltage outputs in response to a single yawed hot-wire sensor in a flow perpendicular to the axis deviate from the theoretical voltage output by King's law and Jorgensen's relation. This study noticed that the calibration coefficients of original Grande's method are not constant and fairly sensitive to the radial angle (${\alpha}_{R}$). For more accuracy, this study interpolated the parameters of the Grande relation as a function of radial angle and compared velocity components with ones by Jorgensen and original Grande relation in the calibration jet flow. Finally, as a test case, 3-dimensional turbulent flows of the inlet plane of 180 degree bend are measured and compared the velocity components by above three methods and showed the characteristics of the flows.
Aerodynamic property is the most important factor in designing the pneumatic separator and handling equipment for grains and seeds. Particularly the correct information about the terminal velocities of the corresponding grains and seeds is indispensible. However, a few studies with relation to the terminal velocities of grains and seeds were conducted in this country, even though the terminal velocities of the domestic grains and seeds are required to design those equiments which can be used for the domestic grains and seeds having specific aerodynamic properties. In this study, the terminal velocities for four varieties of varley and six varieties of paddy were investigated by means of two different methods, the suspension method and the drop method in an upward current of air. For measuring the terminal velocities, the vertical wind tunnel which had been examined about the uniform air flow in the previous study was used. In addition, the effect of the size of grains and the moisture content of grain kernel on the terminal velocity was examined. The following conclusions were derived from the study : 1. The different terminal velocities of grains are resulted from the different measuring methods. The terminal velocity measured by the drop method is smaller than that by the suspension method. It is considered that the difference in the terminal velocities is caused by the difference in the projection area of grain which is faced to the air stream. 2. The terminal velocity of grain increases as the size and the moisture content of the kernel increase. 3. The linear regression equations for the terminal velocities of grains were derived in terms of the moisture content of grains by the variety of grains and the measuring method. Also, the linear regression equations for the terminal velocity, based on the weighted size of grains, were derived in terms of the moisture contents of granis.
Nowadays the weapon systems are employed air bursting munition (ABM) as smart programmable 40 mm shells which have been developed in order to hit the target with programmed munition that can be air burst after a set distance in the battlefield. In order to improve the accuracy of such a bursting time, by measuring the speed of the munition from the barrel, weapon systems calculate the exact time of flight to the target and then the time information must be inputted to the munition. In this study, we introduce a device capable of detecting a shot at K4 40 mm automatic grenade. The shot is composed of a rotating copper band to convert linear motion into rotary motion when it passes through the barrel, the steel section is exert the effect of fragment and aluminum section to give fuze information. The aluminum section was used to detect munition using eddy current method. To measure muzzle velocity by means of non-contact method, two eddy current probes separated 10 cm was employed. Time interval between two eddy current probe detection times was used as muzzle velocity. The eddy current probe was fabricated U-shape Mn-Zn ferrite core with enamelled copper wire, and 200 kHz alternating current was used to detect inductance change. Measured muzzle velocity using the developed sensor was compared to the Doppler radar system. The difference was smaller than 1%.

The purpose of this study is to perform modelings and experiments to measure air flow rate using hot-wires and a CTA(Constant Temperature Anemometer). The flow rate can be obtained by measuring the heat loss of the hot-wire due to the variations of flow velocity when the hot-wire is maintained at uniform temperature. But the defect of this method is that the output signal changes not only by the flow rate but also by the ambient temperature. Thus, in the present study, a method which compensates the variations of the ambient temperature has been introduced to measure exact flow rate. To be more specific, the bridge circuit of the usual hot-wire anemometer system has been modified in such a way that a temperature resistance sensor and a variable resistance are placed in one of the legs to compensate the different temperature coefficients of both the hot-wire and the temperature compensating resistance for flow velocity or for flow mass up to the flow temperature of 50 .deg.C. Comparing the modeling and experimental results, it has been shown that the compensating point differs as the flow rate varies. Therefore, optimum compensation points are sought to construct the circuit. The present modeling and experimental results may be applied to the design of actual air flow meters for automobiles.

In a closed square cavity filled with a liquid, a cooled the upper horizontal wail and a heated the lower horizontal wall, the flow isn't generated under the ground-based condition when Rayleigh number is lower than 1700. In such case the flow phenomena near an air bubble under a cooled horizontal wall were investigated. The temperature and the flow fields were studied by using the Thermo-sensitive Liquid-Crystal and the image processing. The qualitative analysis for the temperature and the flow fields were carried out by applying the image processing technique to the original data. Injecting bubble at the center point of upper cooled wall, the symmetry shape of two vortexes near an air bubble was observed. The bubble size increased, the size of velocity and the magnitude of velocity increased. In spite of elapsed time, a pair of two vortexes was the unique and steady-state flow in a square cavity and wasn't induce to the other flow in the surround region.
