Development of Evaluation Method for Environmental Friendly Property in National Highway (일반국도의 환경친화성 평가방법론 개발)

  • As the Concept "how environmental friendly" becomes more and more important in road construction. However, so far there is no estimation method. Environmental friendly concept can be incorporated at the plan level in order to influence decision making, and support policies that affect environment. The overall goal of this study was to develop environmental friendly concept measures for the national highway and to develop a methodology to implement a more environmental friendly concept. The research identified 8 performance measures through a project analysis that could address environmental impact assessment system's ten strategic goals - Topography, Wildlife, hydrology, landuse, air quality, water quality, soil, waste, noise, landscape. The qualitatively and quantitatively evaluation approach was selected as the decision support framework and performance measure were investigated using the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) and pilot corridor for a 10 section and calculate the index values. The methodology was applied to a pilot corridor comprised of a 120km section of national highway in korea. The methodology made it possible to identify the specific performance measures that need improvement to enhance the overall environmental friendly concept. It is fairly intuitive, based on readily available data, and is easy to apply. It provides a powerful tool for government to assess the relative environmental friendly conceptof their transportation corridors now and in the future. It allows for comparisons within a corridor and with other corridors and identifies the improvements needed to enhance the environmental friendly concept.

A Study on the Optimization of Active Material and Preparation of Granular Adsorbent of Metal Oxide-based Adsorbent for Adsorption of Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) (황화수소(H2S) 흡착을 위한 금속산화물 기반 흡착제의 활성물질 최적화 및 입상형 흡착제 제조에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, the optimization of active materials and the preparation of particulate adsorbents for the application of metal oxide-based adsorbents for the treatment of $H_2S$, an air pollutant and odorant, occurred in various industrial facilities were investigated. The adsorbents were prepared by using $TiO_2$, which has a high physicochemical stability and relatively high specific surface area among metal oxides and also by different kinds and contents of active materials. The correlation between the physicochemical property and adsorption performance of the adsorbents confirmed that the adsorbent containing KI, which is a typical alkali metal among the active metals, showed the highest adsorption performance. The relationship between the contents and the adsorption performance was non-proportional, but a volcano plot. From XRD, SEM and BET analyses, it was confirmed that the active material was exposed to the surface above a certain amount and also the adsorption performance was the best when the specific surface area and pore volume were $40{\sim}100m^2/g$ and $0.1{\sim}0.3cm^3/g$, respectively. For practical application, the adsorbent was granulated or coated on a ceramic support. It was also confirmed that the adsorbent showed high adsorption performance when the adsorbent was coated on the ceramic rather than that of the granulated support.

Utilization of Work-Family Balance Support Policy and Factors Associated with Retention Intention among Married Female Officers with Preschool Children (미취학 자녀를 둔 기혼 여군 장교의 일·가정 양립 지원제도 활용 정도와 재직의도 영향요인)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify utilization of the work-family support policy (WFSP) and factors affecting retention intention among Korean female military officers. Methods: This cross-sectional survey recruited 103 married female officers from the Korean Army, Navy, and Air force with preschool-aged children through convenience and snowball sampling. Via online surveys from June to November, 2018, the participants self-reported retention intention, work-family conflict, job satisfaction, and utilization of the WFSP. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression. Results: Retention intention ($22.29{\pm}5.98$) was reported at the mid-level, lower than scores reported in the literature for female workers. Work-family conflict ($32.51{\pm}5.29$) and job satisfaction ($63.10{\pm}7.45$) were above the midpoint levels. Use of maternity leave (100.0%) and parental leave (92.2%) was high, especially compared to the rates of child-care day off (20.4%) and parenting time (20.4%). 'Noticeable increases in childcare services within the army' (22.8%) was reported as the supportive measure needed the most by female military officers. Job satisfaction (${\beta}=.43$, $p{\leq}.001$), the use of parenting time (${\beta}=-0.29$, p=.002), living type (${\beta}=-.18$, p=.043), and service type (${\beta}=-.16$, p=.035) significantly influenced retention intention. Conclusions: The findings highlight the priority areas of importance within the WFSP and suggest that a family-friendly culture can improve female officers' retention intention. Accordingly, policy changes at the Ministry of National Defense improving the system to enhance a family-friendly culture in the military is expected to strengthen the retention intention of female officers and contribute to excellence in the military workforce.

  • The demand for information related to 3D spatial objects model in metaverse, smart cities, digital twins, autonomous vehicles, urban air mobility will be increased. 3D model construction for spatial objects is possible with various equipments such as satellite-, aerial-, ground platforms and technologies such as modeling, artificial intelligence, image matching. However, it is not easy to quickly detect and convert spatial objects that need updating. In this study, based on spatial information (features) and attributes, using matching elements such as address code, number of floors, building name, and area, the converged building DB and the detected building DB are constructed. Both to support above and to verify the suitability of object selection that needs to be updated, one system prototype was developed. When constructing the converged building DB, the convergence of spatial information and attributes was impossible or failed in some buildings, and the matching rate was low at about 80%. It is believed that this is due to omitting of attributes about many building objects, especially in the pilot test area. This system prototype will support the establishment of an efficient drone shooting plan for the rapid update of 3D spatial objects, thereby preventing duplication and unnecessary construction of spatial objects, thereby greatly contributing to object improvement and cost reduction.

  • The regional infrastructure industries of Gwangyang City, the subject of this study, are Gwangyang Port and Gwangyang Steel Mill. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the regional economic ripple effects of the port logistics industry in Gwangyang City. In this study, a multi-stage approach using the RW and the LQ methodology using the national input-output tables in 2015 and 2019 is used to prepare the regional interindustry analysis chart in Gwangyang City, and an exogenous demand induction model that reclassified the port logistics industry was applied. Through this, the purpose of this study was to provide policy implications by figuring out the regional economic ripple effects of the port logistics industry quantitatively in Gwangyang City. As a result of the analysis, the industries with high production inducement effect and forward/backward linkage effect of the port logistics industry in Gwangyang City were analyzed as manufacturing, transportation, land and air logistics sectors. And the industries in which the added value inducement effect and the employment inducement effect were analyzed as an industry related to the service industry. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare support measures to foster the port logistics industry as a way to promote these industries and revitalize the local economy of Gwangyang City. To this end, it is desirable to improve policies and systems for the vitalization of the Gwangyang port maritime cluster and provide various policy support for the port logistics industry in Gwangyang City. This study is meaningful in suggesting policy implications for the regional economy of Gwangyang City based on the results of exogenous analysis of the port logistics industry in small and medium-sized cities. However, It seems that further studies related to this will be needed in the future.

  • After participating in the Second Boer War in 1899, the Australian Army participated in world wars such as World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. To overcome the decline in the social recognition of soldiers and the continuous shortage of troops caused by the protracted war, the status and role of female personnel were expanded. The use of female manpower, which started as medical support during the Second Boer War, expanded to combat support missions such as communications, maintenance, driving, secret document management, and radar surveillance during World War II. After the Vietnam War, the Chiefs of Staff of the Australian Army, Navy and Air Force established a committee to expand women's participation in the military, improved service conditions for female personnel and supplemented regulations so that they were treated as soldiers, not women, and reached a turning point in expanding the role of female personnel in the Australian military. As a result, all combat positions, including special forces, were opened to women in 2014, and a plan was established to increase the proportion of women in each service by 2030. Like the Australian military, South Korea is also experiencing a demographic cliff and shortage of troops due to the continuing low birthrate problem.   • A multi-disciplinary geophysical study including gravity, magnetic, and seismic reflection profiling was carried out in the area between the Clarion fracture zone and the Clippertone fracture zone o the northeastern equatorial Pacific basin. There are small free-air gravity anomalies of less than 20 mgal over seamounts and the east-west trending abyssal hills. The negative residual gravity anomalies over seamounts may indicate the existence of low density seamount roots compared to surrounding oceanic crust. Non-existence of magnetic lineations and the magnetic anomalies of small smplitude with no polarity change in the east-west direction support that the study area belongs to the Cretaceous magnetic quite zone. Positive magnetic anomalies over seamounts offset 100 km in the east-west direction in the southern part of the study area suggest a possibility of left-lateral movement of those seamounts along unknown fractures. The sedimentary section in the study area can be divided into three units (Unit I, unit IIA, and Unit IIB) n the basis of reflection characteristics. the total thickness of sedimentary section varies from 200 to 400 meters and the sedimentary section is thicker in the southern area of rough topography near the seamount belt than in the northern flat area. Manganese nodules are abundant in the southern part of the study area where the ridges are developed and the Unit I layer is thicker than 100 meters.

The Estimation of PM2.5 Emissions and Their Contribution Analysis by Source Categories in Korea (국내 배출원별 PM2.5 배출량 산정 및 배출 기여도 분석)

  • The Ministry of Environment will enforce air quality standards for $PM_{2.5}$ in 2015 because it affects human health as well as climate change and brings about other adverse effects. Until recently, even though a number of researches have reported $PM_{2.5}$ emissions according to sources, they have not precisely considered the emission factors correspondent to each source for emission estimation. For the sake of establishing $PM_{2.5}$ emission inventories, this study was undertaken using activity data of each source taken from CAPSS (Clean Air Policy Support System) multiplied by each emission factor of U.S. EPA Speciate or EEA CORINAIR. The 2008's total annual $PM_{2.5}$ emission (73.971 ton/yr) can be apportioned into five sources, such as fuel combustion facilities (62.2%), mobiles (33.8%), production processes (3.2%), fires (0.4%), and waste treatments (0.3%). The results show that fuel combustion facilities and mobiles are the predominant sources of $PM_{2.5}$, and they should be taken into great account in establishing $PM_{2.5}$ standards. In addition, it is necessary and urgent to develop effective measures for reduction of $PM_{2.5}$ emissions from those two main sources as well.

Effects of the COVID-19 spread on the Northeast Asia Airport Network Centrality: Using Social Network Analysis (코로나19 확산이 동북아 공항 네트워크 중심성 지수에 미친 영향: 소셜 네트워크 분석을 중심으로)

  • The purposes of this paper were: 1) to identify the structural changes of the northeast Asia airport network caused by the pandemic of COVID-19 using social network analysis (SNA) and 2) to suggest proposals for improving airport competitiveness. In this respect, the entire international air routes in northeast Asia airport collected data of 4-10 March 2019 and 9-15 March 2020 through schedules analyzer database of OAG. We found that both the density and centrality have decreased since the spread of COVID-19. The government and airport authorities need active support such as a reduction of various fees and a moratorium on transportation rights to overcome the crisis in the air transport industry. When the COVID-19 situation calms down in the future, we hope that further research will be conducted to identify the structural changes in the SNA aspects through the vast data establishment in countries such as the EU and America.

Study on the energy-saving constant temperature and humidity machine operating characteristics (에너지 절감형 항온항습기 운전 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The heat recovery system that was applied in this study, is the energy-saving type that can produce the maximum cooling capacity less power in use. In order to have a more precise control function the temperature and humidity of the constant temperature and humidity machine, control algorithm is applied to designed a fuzzy PID controller, and the outside air compensation device (air-cooled) demonstrated excellent ability to dehumidify the moisture, $-20^{\circ}C$ in winter. High efficiency and the low-noise type sirocco fan operate quitely and designed to fit the bottom-up and top-down in accordance with the characteristics of equipment. as a result of experiment data, the conversion efficiency is 95% or more, power recovery time is within 5sec, stop delay time is within 30sec, pump down time is 10sec, pump delay time is 5sec, heating delay time is 5sec, temperature deviation is ${\pm}2^{\circ}C$ (cooling deviation: $2^{\circ}C$, Heating deviation : $2^{\circ}C$), humidity deviation is a ${\pm}5%$ (humidification deviation 3.0%, dehumidification deviation 3.0%). Recently, ubiquitous technology is important. so, the constant temperature and humidity machine designed to be able to remotely control to via the mobile phone, and more scalable to support MMI software and automatic interface. Further, the life of the parts and equipment is extended by the failure.
