Indoor environments are usually less than optimal for the growth of ferns, especially in regards to the water condition. These studies were performed to investigate responses involved in causing growth of ferns and presume management plan against the water deficit under indoor conditions. The effect of air humidity and soil moisture on the ferns was examined in Adiantume raddianum and Selaginella kraussiana. Results of experiments are as follows; 1. Under a low humidity condition, having a 25-50% RH. ornamental value of ferns decreased much more than under a 90% RH. Under a low soil moisture, such as sand treatment, ornamental value of ferns also decreased. 2. Leaf chlorophyll content, water content and stomata situations increased as air humidity and soil moisture went up. 3. Even if air humidity and soil water were not enough for ferns growth, the extending of irrigation cycle was helpful. 4. Under extremely low air humidity conditions, some water management, namely, using water holding soil or extending of irrigation cycle was desirable. Other methods of increasing air humidity, including water instruments such as ornamental pools, waterfalls, or fountains, grouping plants together were also helpful. But spraying water on leaves increased injury to ferns growth because of excess evaporation from the leaves. Though these studies, we learn that ferns are susceptible to water condition such as air humidity, soil water and water management. If other environmental factos are maintained with optimal conditions, water condition plays an important role in ferns growth in indoor environments.

The objective of this research is to analyze the ventilation effectiveness in the non-isothermal air supply using mixing and displacement ventilation systems for indoor air quality control and management. In this study, a ventilation effectiveness is evaluated in a simplified model chamber using a tracer gas technique of $CO^2$ gas injected into a supply duct as a function of ventilation rates, supply/extract sites and cooling/heating air supply. The ventilation effectiveness decreased with increasing ventilation rate on the cooling and heating conditions. And the ventilation effectiveness of case 3 (down supply and upper extract) was better thant that of case 1(upper supply and upper extract) and case 2(upper supply and down extract) with the cooling supply conditions. but for the heating supply air conditions, the ventilation effectiveness of case 2 was better than that of case 3 and case 1.
The heating and cooling performances of system multi-air conditioner for various refrigerant flow rates with high-head and long-line conditions are experimentally investigated. The maximum head and tube length were 110 m and 1000 m, and the two different adjustments of refrigerant flow rates were +20 % and -20 %, respectively. The experimental system was composed of 4 outdoor units with module systems, and 13 indoor units which were joined with the mode change unit by single-tube circuit. Field tests without indoor and outdoor temperature control were performed in a general office building with two different refrigerant flow rates. Especially, the oil level in the compressor was normally maintained at the safety zone. Experimental results were prepared on the p-h diagram.

The objectives of this paper are to study the effects of thermal and geometric conditions on the performance of indoor heat exchangers with R-410A for Gas Engine Driven Heat Pump (GHP) application and to find the optimum design conditions of indoor heat exchangers by parametric analysis for the key parameters. The key parameters are number of tube row, number of tube pipe, fin pitch and transverse tube pitch. In the air side, moisture out of the humid air condenses on the fin surface while the refrigerant (R-410A) boils inside the smooth tube. Therefore this study uses Log Mean Enthalpy Difference (LMHD) method to analyze the heat transfer from the humid air to the refrigerant. This study determines the heat exchanger size, air side/refrigerant side pressure drop and overall heat transfer coefficient. Optimum design conditions for the key parameters are also determined by the parametric analysis. The results show that number of rows and pipes, fin pitch have significant effect on the heat exchanger size. It is also found that the tube length of the louver fin is $17{\sim}30%$ shorter than that of the plate fin.
A comprehensive, nonsteady state, computer simulation program for the environmental conditions in advancing tunnels (the HEADSIM simulation program) is constructed and successfully validated with heat balance amongst all heat sources, and with mass conservation amongst various airflows including the leakage air from ducts, under timedependent variations of inlet air conditions. which include sudden, diurnal and seasonal changes. Heat conduction in the wall strata and face strata is simulated with most complicated boundary conditions using the finite difference method, and the climatic conditions in roadway sections which contain air ducts, booster fan, spray cooler, compressed air pipes, cold water pipes, return water pipes, machinery and broken rock are simulated taking into account the variations of face operation and the heat storage mechanism in the strata. The limitations of simulation time steps and roadway section lengths are defined according to the stability criteria satisfying the principles of thermodynamics. Variations of heat transfer coefficients, which are newly set, and those of wetness factors are taken into account according to the variations of other parameters and the stepwise advance of the face. Newly-derived formulae are used for computing the air duct leakage and the pressure inside of the duct. A new concept of an 'imaginary duct' is introduced to simulate the climatic conditions in tunnels during holiday periods, which directly affect conditions on subsequent working days under the consideration of natural convection. A subsidiary program (the WALLSIM simulation program) is made to compute the dimensionless tunnel surface temperatures and to compare the results with those from analytical approaches, and to demonstrate the stability, convergence and accuracy of the strata heat conduction simulation, adopting the finite difference method. The WALLSIM also has wide applications, including those for the computation of age coefficients.

In the present study, the heating and cooling characteristics of system air-conditioner using a PWM compressor or a BLDC inverter compressor are investigated by the psychometric calorimeter using air enthalpy method. Cooling and heating capacities, power inputs and COPs are measured at the low, moderate, high loads under the cooling and heating standard conditions. At cooling conditions, the capacity of the PWM system is larger than that of the inverter case. Due to large power input, however, low COPs are measured under total load ranges. At heating conditions, the capacity of the PWM method is a little larger than that of the inverter case, except high load range. Since power input is low, large COPs are measured at moderate and high load ranges, which are different from cooling data. This shows that the PW system compared with the inverter case has good energy consumption efficiency at moderate and high load ranges except low load range. And when the system A/C is operated under the cooling and heating standard conditions, COPs are nearly uniform at total load ranges.

Objectives: The purpose of this case study is to assess the current airflow and find the ideal ventilation conditions in tank reactors for minimizing the possibility of exposure respiratory dusts(size of $2.5{\mu}m$, $10{\mu}m$) when workers exchange catalysts in the tank reactors. Methods: A Numerical study was performed to determine ideal ventilation conditions, We considered two sizes of airborne respiratory particles($2.5{\mu}m$, $10{\mu}m$) at 12points from the bottom of tank reactor. We changed input & output ventilation conditions and analyzed the particle motion in the tank reactor. The star-ccm+, computational fluid dynamics tool was used to predict air & particle flow patterns in the tank reactor and a numerical simulation was achieved by applying the realized ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and the Lagrangian particle tracking method. Results: From the results, the increase of recirculation air had a significant impact on removing dusts because they are removed by HEPA filter. To the contrary, Increasing the clean air quantity or changing the input position of clean air is not good for workers because it causes the exit of respiratory dusts through workers' entrance or cause it to remail suspended in the air in the workplace tank.
This study was performed to investigate the influence of curing conditions on the composition of essential oil during curing process of burley tobacco leaves. The curing conditions were the primed curing in vinyl house (house-curing), air-curing barn (air-curing) and stalk-curing in conventional curing house (stalk-curing). Total 90 compounds are identified from the steam volatile oils of harvest and cured tobacco leaves by GC and GC-MS, respectively. The major components were neophytadiene, hexadecanoic acid, 3,8,13-duvatriene-1,5-diols, oxide-9-methylene-3,13-duvadienols, solanone, megastigma-4,6,8-trien-3-ones, phenylacetaldehyde, $\beta$-phenylethyl alcohol, indole, dihydroactinidiolide and phytol. The amount of alcoholic compounds was decreased more than approximately 50% in cured leaves without regard to the curing conditions. $\beta$-Phenylethyl alcohol and 3,8,13-duvatriene-1,5-diols were decreased more in air curing and stalk curing than in house curing. The amounts of phenylacetaldehyde, solanone, $\beta$-damascone, $\beta$ -damascenone, oxysolanone and megastigma-4,6,8-trien-3-ones as ketonic compounds, dihydroactinidiolide and indole as miscellaneous compounds in air-cured and stalk-cured tobacco leaves were 2 times higher than those in house-cured leaves, while esteric and acidic compounds were not changed largely in content by curing conditions.

Objectives: This study aims to identify whether ventilation conditions and their effectiveness can be significantly improved in an experimental chamber by increasing the mixing factor (K-Factor). Methods: In a chamber with a volume of $1m^3$, air velocity was measured at six different points with four roof fans in the upper part of the chamber being operated in order. The impact of the ventilation conditions was analyzed when the flow rates were increasing and the first inlet of the chamber was either open or closed. Smoke patterns were also observed at four corner points where ventilation was limited. Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests were performed to compare air velocities measured in the chamber. Results: The air velocities measured at only the third point increased significantly from $0.03{\pm}0.03m/s$ (door open) and $0.05{\pm}0.06m/s$ (door closed) with two fans, $0.08{\pm}0.08m/s$ with three fans, and $0.09{\pm}0.09m/s$ with four fans operating (p<0.05). However, air velocities at the four corner points did not significantly increase. Smoke patters also showed that the open inlet of the chamber had no effect on improvement of ventilation conditions and effectiveness. Conclusions: In this study, the air velocities at six points in the chamber did not significantly increase despite the increase in the mixing factor and flow rates of ventilation in the controlled environment. Therefore, the inflow of outdoor air throughout an open inlet and installation of a forced ventilation system can potentially increase the indoor air velocity and improve ventilation condition without an increase in the mixing factor.
