차세대 터보프롭 항공기용 최신 프로펠러 블레이드 연구 -Part II. 정적 구조 설계 및 시험 (The Study of Advanced Propeller Blade for Next Generation Turboprop Aircraft -Part II. Static Structural Design and Test)

  • 깃끝단 후퇴각을 가지는 현대 터보프롭 항공기의 최신 프로펠러는 고속으로 비행할 수 있는 추력을 얻기 위해 구조적으로 높은 강도가 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 프로펠러 구조 설계 시 고강도 및 고강성의 특성을 지닌 카본/에폭시 복합재료가 적용되었으며, 경량화를 위하여 스킨-스파-폼 샌드위치 구조 형태를 채택하였다. 구조 설계를 위한 구조 하중은 블레이드에 작용하는 공력하중을 분석하여 결정하였으며, 스파 플렌지는 굽힘 하중을 담당하고 스킨은 전단 하중을 담당하도록 복합재료 설계 개념을 반영하였다. 구조 안전성을 평가하기 위하여 상용 유한 요소 해석 코드인 나스트란을 활용하여 구조 해석을 수행하였다. 시제품 블레이드의 구조 시험을 통하여 적용된 구조설계 방법론이 적절함을 확인하였다.

  • High Altitude and Long Endurance (HALE) aircraft are capable of providing intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities over vast geographic areas when equipped with advanced sensor packages. As their use becomes more widespread, the demand for additional range, endurance and payload capability will increase and designers are exploring non-conventional configurations to meet the increasing demands. One such configuration is the joined-wing concept. A joined-wing aircraft is one that typically connects a front and aft wings in a diamond shaped planform. One such example is the Boeing SensorCraft configuration. While the joined-wing configuration offers potential benefits regarding aerodynamic efficiency, structural weight, and sensing capabilities, structural design requires careful consideration of elastic buckling resulting from the aft wing supporting, in compression, part of the forward wing structural loading. It has been shown already that this is a nonlinear phenomenon, involving geometric nonlinearities and follower forces that tend to flatten the entire configuration, leading to structural overload due to the loss of the aft wing's ability to support the forward wing load. Severe gusts are likely to be the critical design condition, with flight control system interaction in the form of Gust Load Alleviation (GLA) playing a key role in minimizing the structural loads. The University of Victoria Center for Aerospace Research (UVic-CfAR) has built a 3-meter span scaled and flexible wing UAV based on the Boeing SensorCraft design. The goal is to validate the nonlinear structural behavior in flight. The main objective of this research work is to perform Ground Vibration Tests (GVT) to characterize the dynamic properties of the scaled flight vehicle. Results from the experimental tests are used to characterize the modal dynamics of the aircraft, and to validate the numerical models. The GVT results are an important step towards a safe flight test program.

Stability Characteristics of Supercritical High-Pressure Turbines Depending on the Designs of Tilting Pad Journal Bearings

  • In this study, for a high-pressure turbine (HPT) of 800 MW class supercritical thermal-power plant, considering aerodynamic cross-coupling, we performed a rotordynamic logarithmic decrement (LogDec) stability analysis with various tilting pad journal bearing (TPJB) designs, which several steam turbine OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) currently apply in their supercritical and ultra-supercritical HPTs. We considered the following TPJB designs: 6-Pad load on pad (LOP)/load between pad (LBP), 5-Pad LOP/LBP, Hybrid 3-Pad LOP (lower 3-Pad tilting and upper 1-Pad fixed), and 5-Pad LBPs with the design variables of offset and preload. We used the API Level-I method for a LogDec stability analysis. Following results are summarized only in a standpoint of LogDec stability. The Hybrid 3-Pad LOP TPJBs most excellently outperform all the other TPJBs over nearly a full range of cross-coupled stiffness. In a high range of cross-coupled stiffness, both the 6-Pad LOP and 5-Pad LOP TPJBs may be recommended as a practical conservative bearing design approach for enhancing a rotordynamic stability of the HPT. As expected, in a high range of cross-coupled stiffness, the 6-Pad LBP TPJBs exhibit a better performance than the 5-Pad LBP TPJBs. However, contrary to one's expectation, notably, the 5-Pad LOP TPJBs exhibit a slightly better performance than the 6-Pad LOP TPJBs. Furthermore, we do not recommend any TPJB design efforts of either increasing a pad offset from 0.5 or a pad preload from 0 for the HPT in a standpoint of stability.

  • Endwall losses contribute significantly to the overall losses in modern turbomachinery, especially when aerodynamic airfoil load and pressure ratio are increased. Hence, reducing the extend and intensity of the secondary flow structures helps to enhance overall efficiency. From the large range of viable approaches, a promising combination positioning and height of endwall contouring was chosen. The objective of this study is to document the three-dimensional flow in a turbine cascade in terms of streamwise vorticity, total pressure loss distribution and static pressure distribution on the endwall and blade surface and to propose an appropriate positioning and height of the endwall contouring which show best secondary, overall loss reduction among the simulated endwall. The flow through the gas turbine were numerically analyzed using three dimensional Navier-Stroke equations with a commercial CFD code ANSYS CFX-10. The result shows that the overall loss is reduced near the flat endwall rather than contoured endwall, and the case of contoured endwall installed at 30% from leading edge with height of 25% for span showed best performance.

반디호 수출형 시제기에 대한 플러터 매커니즘 분석 (Flutter Mechanism Analysis for Firefly Export Model)

  • 본 연구에서는 선미익을 채용한 경항공기인 반디호의 수출형 시제기에 대한 플러터 해석을 수행하였다. 내부 하중 생성용 유한요소모델을 기초로 강성 모델을 작성하였고, 중량 통제를 위한 중량 DB에 근거하여 중량 모델을 작성하였다. 공력모델은 DLM을 이용하였다. 작성된 모델을 이용하여 1차 플러터 해석을 수행하였다. 이를 토대로 주요 진동 모드를 구분해 내고, 지상진동시험을 수행하여 진동 특성을 획득하였다. 획득된 고유진동수를 근거로 유한요소모델의 수정이 이루어졌고 2차 해석이 수행되었다. 해석 결과 주요 플러터 근의 특성을 정리하였다. 가장 중요한 플러터 근은 롤 운동을 갖는 강체 모드와 반대칭 주익 피칭 모드의 연계 모드로 판명되었다.

단일 휘트스톤 브리지 플렉셔를 이용한 풍동시험에서의 힌지모멘트 측정 연구 (The Study of Hinge Moment Measurement in Wind Tunnel Test Using Single Wheatstone Bridge Flexure)

  • In this study, a method using single Wheatstone bridge flexure has been presented to measure hinge moment acting on control surfaces of wind tunnel models. The structural simplicity of the flexure reduces difficulty regarding gauging and wire-routing, and also makes it feasible to install flexures even inside thin wings. Some flexures were designed and fabricated under typical aerodynamic loads in wind tunnel test, and the strains on the flexure according to applied loads were compared with the result of the analysis by finite element method. The relation between applied loads and output signals showed good linearity, and the standard deviation on the residual errors from linear equation obtained by least square method was within 1.0 % of the maximum design moments. In addition, the FEM analysis on the thickness of load-connecting part of the flexure showed that the sensitivity was improved as the thickness became thin as much as desired to avoid buckling.

Computational evaluation of wind loads on a standard tall building using LES

  • In this paper, wind induced aerodynamic loads on a standard tall building have been evaluated through large-eddy simulation (LES) technique. The flow parameters of an open terrain were recorded from the downstream of an empty boundary layer wind tunnel (BLWT) and used to prescribe the transient inlet boundary of the LES simulations. Three different numerically generated inflow boundary conditions have been investigated to assess their suitability for LES. A high frequency pressure integration (HFPI) approach has been employed to obtain the wind load. A total of 280 pressure monitoring points have been systematically distributed on the surfaces of the LES model building. Similar BLWT experiments were also done to validate the numerical results. In addition, the effects of adjacent buildings were studied. Among the three wind field generation methods (synthetic, Simirnov's, and Lund's recycling method), LES with perturbation from the synthetic random flow approach showed better agreement with the BLWT data. In general, LES predicted peak wind loads comparable with the BLWT data, with a maximum difference of 15% and an average difference of 5%, for an isolated building case and however higher estimation errors were observed for cases where adjacent buildings were placed in the vicinity of the study building.

  • 고층건물의 진동응답을 저감시키기 위한 다양한 방법들이 연구되고 있다. 이들 진동응답의 저감 연구는 건물의 외관을 병화 시키는 방법과 건물에 부가감쇠장치를 설치하는 방법들이 있는데 본 논문에서는 고층 건물의 형태의 변화에 다른 진동변위응답의 특성을 파악하고자 한다. 고층건물의 형태변화 중에서도 외관에 테이퍼를 수는 방법을 사용하였다. 기류의 특성은 도심 및 교외지역을 중심으로 풍동실험을 실시하였다.

Flutter Characteristics ofAircraft Wing Considering Control Surface and Actuator Dynamics with Friction Nonlinearity

  • Whenever the hinge axis of aircraft wing rotates, its stiffness varies. Also, there are nonlinearities in the connection of the actuator and the hinge axis, and it is necessary to inspect the coupled effects between the actuator dynamics and the hinge nonlinearity. Nonlinear aeroelastic characteristics are investigated by using the iterative V-g method. Time domain analyses are also performed by using Karpel's minimum state approximation technique. The doublet hybrid method(DHM) is used to calculate the unsteady aerodynamic forces in subsonic regions. Structural nonlinearity located in the load links of the actuator is assumed to be friction. The friction nonlinearity of an actuator is identified by using the describing function technique. The nonlinear flutter analyses have shown that the flutter characteristics significantly depends on the structural nonlinearity as well as the dynamic stiffness of an actuator. Therefore, the dynamic stiffness of an actuator as well as the nonlinear effect of hinge axis are important factors to determine the flutter stability.

Effect of structure configurations and wind characteristics on the design of solar concentrator support structure under dynamic wind action

  • Concentrated Solar Photovoltaic (CPV) is a promising alternative to conventional solar structures. These solar tracking structures need to be optimized to be competitive against other types of energy production. In particular, the selection of the structural parameters needs to be optimized with regards to the dynamic wind response. This study aims to evaluate the effect of the main structural parameters, as selected in the preliminary design phase, on the wind response and then on the weight of the steel support structure. A parametric study has been performed where parameters influencing dynamic wind response are varied. The study is performed using a semi-deterministic time-domain wind analysis method. Unsteady aerodynamic model is applied for the shape of the CPV structure collector at different configurations in conjunction with a consistent mass-spring-damper model with the corresponding degrees of freedom to describe the dynamic response of the system. It is shown that, unlike the static response analysis, the variation of the peak wind response with many structural parameters is highly nonlinear because of the dynamic wind action. A steel structural optimization process reveals that close attention to structural and site wind parameters could lead to optimal design of CPV steel support structure.
