In order to analyze the heat transfer phenomena in the plasma flames, a mathematical model describing heat and fluid flow in an electric arc has been developed and used to predict heat transfer from the arc to the steel bath in a DC Electric Arc Furnace. The arc model takes the separate contributions to the heat transfer from each involved mechanism onto account, that is radiation, convection and energy transported by electrons. The finite volume method and a SIMPLE algorithm are used for solving the governing MHD equations, that are conservation equations of mass, momentum and energy together with the equations describing a standard k-${\varepsilon}$ model for turbulence. The model predicts heat transfer for different currents and arc lengths. Finally these calculation results can be used as a useful insight into plasma phenomena of the industrial-scale electric arc furnace. From these results, it can be concluded that higher arc current and longer arc length give high heat transfer
The Conventional time-domain simulation of transient stability requires iterative calculation procedures to consider the saliency of generator. Recently, a non-iterative algorithm has successfully developed to take into account the generator saliency exactly with the use of $E_q'$-model. This study proposes an extended non-iterative algorithm by adopting the two-axis generator model. Given internal voltages and rotor angles of the generators, network voltages and generator currents can be directly calculated by solving a linear algebraic equation, which enables us to reduce the computation time remarkably.
Droplet size and distribution are important parameters determining venturi scrubber performance. In this paper, we proposed physical models for a maximum stable droplet size prediction and upper limit log-normal (ULLN) distribution parameters. For the proposed maximum stable droplet size prediction model, a Eulerian-Lagrangian framework and a Reitz-Diwakar breakup model are solved simultaneously using CFD calculations to reflect the effect of multistage breakup and droplet acceleration. Then, two ULLN distribution parameters are suggested through best fitting the previously published experimental data. Results show that the proposed approach provides better predictions of maximum stable droplet diameter and Sauter mean diameter compared to existing simple empirical correlations including Boll, Nukiyama and Tanasawa. For more practical purpose, we developed the simple, one dimensional (1-D) calculation of Sauter mean diameter.

High temperature flow behaviors of AISI 4340 steel were investigated using isothermal compression tests under the temperature range from 850 to $1100^{\circ}C$ and a strain rate from 0.01 to $10s^{-1}$. The flow stress decreased with increasing compression temperature and decreasing strain rate. The dynamic softening related to the dynamic recrystallization was observed during hot deformation. The constitutive model based on Arrheniustyped equation with the Zener-Hollomon parameter was used to simulate the hot deformation behavior of AISI 4340 steel. The modification of the Zener-Hollomon parameter and lnA parameter resulted in the improvement of the calculation accuracy of the proposed constitutive model compared with the experimental flow curves. In addition, the process map of AISI 4340 steel was proposed. The instable process condition for hot deformation was predicted and its reliability was verified with the experimental observation.
This paper presents a finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) strategy for the AC/DC matrix converter used in grid-connected battery energy storage system (BESS). First, to control the grid current properly, the DC current is also included in the cost function because of input and output direct coupling. The DC current reference is generated based on the dynamic relationship of the two currents, so the grid current gains improved transient state performance. Furthermore, the steady state error is reduced by adding a closed-loop. Second, a Luenberger observer is adopted to detect the AC input voltage instead of sensors, so the cost is reduced and the reliability can be enhanced. Third, a switching state pre-selection method that only needs to evaluate half of the active switching states is presented, with the advantages of shorter calculation time, no high dv/dt at the DC terminal, and less switching loss. The robustness under grid voltage distortion and parameter sensibility are discussed as well. Simulation and experimental results confirm the good performance of the proposed scheme for battery charging and discharging control.
The global economy has been very difficult due to the recent impact of COVID-19. Korea is also pushing for strong quarantine policies such as K- quarantine and social distancing, but the economy is hardly recovering. In particular, the economic situation began to change rapidly depending on the export and domestic market, the public's interest in the economy increased, and companies became more sensitive. In order to estimate this rapidly changing economic situation, major advanced countries have also developed models that can periodically monitor the economy at the government level. Through this, by periodically reporting the economic trends, the public and companies can be aware of the economic trends to some extent. This study analyzed the cases of weekly business trends in advanced countries and developed a model of weekly economic activity suitable for Korea. To verify this, indices closely related to the economy such as mobility, industrial activity, face-to-face consumption, and psychology were discovered and estimated. As a result of the study, the weekly economic activity index was judged to be very useful in capturing short-term real economic activity. In the future, in order to secure the robustness and stability of the index and to increase the reflection of reality, model improvement and parameter estimation should be performed regularly.
The calculation of earthwork plays a major role in plan or design of many civil engineering projects, and thus it has become very important to advanced the accuracy of earthwork calculation. Current method used for estimating the volume of pit excavation assumes that the ground profile between the grid points is linear(trapezoidal rule), or nonlinear(simpson's formulas). In this paper the spot height method, least square method, and chamber formulas, Chen and Lin method are compared with the volumes of the pits in these examples. As a result of this study, algorithm of chen and Lin me쇙 by spline method should provide a better accuracy than the spot height method, least square method, chamber formulas. The Chen and Lin formulas can be used for estimating the excavation volume of a pit divide into a grid with unequal intervals. From the characteristics of the cubic spline polynomial, the modeling curve of the Chen and Lin method is smooth and matches the ground profile well. Generally speaking, the nonlinear profile formulas provide better accuracy than the linear profile formulas. The mathematical model mentioned make an offer maximum accuracy in estimating the volume of a pit excavation.

This study is on the development of the computer program that calculates a 3-D hull temperadistribution and analyzes BOR(Boil off rate) to be important to the heat design of a membrane type LNG carrier. The quarter of a tank is taken as an calculation model. And the thermal conductivity of insulation is assumed to be the function of a temperature. In the present steady state calculation, the temperature of LNG in a cargo tank is assumed to be -$162^{\circ}C$ and the air temperature of a cofferdam, to be +$5^{\circ}C$. The lowest air temperature in compartments is calculated as $21.39^{\circ}C$ under the USCG condition ($T_{air}=-18^{\circ}C,\;T_{sw}=O^{\circ}C)$ and B.O.R value is O.0977%/day under the maximum boil-off condition, IMO IGC ($T_{air}=45^{\circ}C,\;T_{sw}=32^{\circ}C$), which satisfies the requirement by KOGAS. The calculated temperature distribution over tank panels at each condition is maximum 3% less than GTT's results. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the present design of LNG cargo tank satisfies the requirement by KOGAS.
Advanced nuclear reactors, especially the newly developed small and micro-reactors have complex neutron spectrum, which makes the deterministic reactor core calculations sensitive to the energy group structure of few-group cross-sections. To avoid significantly increasing the cost of energy discretization in the core calculation, two energy group structures with 31 groups and 33 groups were adopted for typical thermal and fast reactor cores, respectively. Then, an adaptive scheme of group division for reactor cores with a medium neutron spectrum was proposed. The works were based on the full spectrum nuclear reactor analysis code SARAX/TULIP. An equivalent one-dimensional model of the core was proposed to capture the key neutron spectrum features of the reactor core. Such features were used to adaptively determine a few-group structure for the following reactor core calculations. Then, the neutron spectrum in different zones with more details was calculated. With this spectrum, the cross-sections were condensed into the determined energy groups. Three tests based on different neutron spectrum were calculated to verify the schemes. The results show that using the adaptive energy group division scheme, the following core calculation can meet the accuracy requirement of different reactors with different neutron spectra.
