  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of life-sustaining treatment and attitudes towards advance directives among geriatric patients. Methods: The elderly participants (N=146) were recruited from a university hospital from October 30, 2012 to March 31, 2013. A questionnaire for collecting data of participants' characteristics, their experiences related to life-sustaining treatment, and attitudes towards advance directives was used. The data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 17. Results: Most participants (84.9%) were in favor of advance directives. Although most of participants wanted to receive CPR for sudden cardiac arrest (78.8%) and pain control medication (74.0%), most preferred to refuse life-sustaining treatments such as tracheostomy (96.6%) or ventilator (87.0%). Participants who had a family or acquaintances with CPR experiences (U=852.00 p=.038), had discussed with their family and acquaintances regarding end-of-life sustaining treatment (t=2.91, p=.004), or made decisions about refusing the life sustaining treatments (t=3.19, p=.002) preferred to have advance directives than those who did not. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggested the potential benefits of educational programs about advance directives for the end-of-life for geriatric patients to make decisions for life-sustaining treatments in advance.

  • The present study numerically investigated the effect of the advance ratio on the wake characteristics of the marine propeller in the propeller open water test. Therefore, a wide range of the advance ratio(0.2${\kappa}-{\omega}$SST Model are considered. The three-dimensional vortical structures of tip vortices are visualized by the swirl strength, resulting in fast decay of the tip vortices with increasing the advance ratio. Furthermore, to better understanding of the wake evolution, the contraction ratio of the slip stream for different advance ratios is extracted from the velocity fields. Consequently, the slip stream contraction ratio decreases with increasing the advance ratio and successively the difference of the slip stream contraction ratio between J=0.2 and J=0.8 is about 0.1R.

  • This study was a descriptive study to investigate the effects of healthcare workers' consciousness of biomedical ethics, recognition of good death, and self-esteem on attitude toward advance directive. Participants in this study were 292 healthcare workers in the three general hospitals located Y city. The data were collected from April 2 to April 23, 2019 and analyzed descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using the SPSS Win. 22.0 program. The result of the multiple regression indicates the intention to awareness regarding advance directives, intention to execute advance directives, time to complete advance directives and recognition of good death predict 23.5% (F=12.39, P=.000) of attitudes toward advance directives. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a program to establish attitudes toward advance directives by providing education on recognition of good death of healthcare workers.

  • Advance rate significantly affects both the construction period and cost in tunnel blasting. As such, there has been persistent research dedicated to the development of innovative blasting technique aimed at enhancing the advance rate. This paper aims to provide fundamental insights into the differences in advance rate and the powder factor between two- and three-free-face blasting, laying the groundwork for the advancement of tunnel blasting techniques. Large-scale cement mortar specimens were fabricated, and blasting tests were conducted for both two- and three-free-face blasting. Experimental findings were then compared with those from numerical simulation. Notably, an increase in the number of free faces, under uniform conditions, significantly improved the advance rate while reducing the powder factor. The outcomes of this study serve as crucial groundwork for devising blasting patterns employing three-free-face blasting, characterized by improved advance rates and minimized powder factors. Consequently, the anticipated outcomes include an overall improvement in tunnel advance rates and a reduction in the number of drilling holes and the amounts of explosives.

  • Variable valve timing(VVT) mechanisms are used widely for improving fuel consumption and reducing emissions. Most of application, however, are limited in the DOHC engine. Dual equal retard/advance strategy is relatively simple one and can be applied to both SOHC and DOHC engines. In this study, effects of dual equal valve timing retard/advance are investigated to observe the feasibility of VVT system on an SOHC SI engine. The result shows that fuel economy and emissions are improved in the dual retard condition due to increased internal EGR. Some amount of increase in volumetric efficiency can be achieved by advancing valve timing at low speed and by retarding at high speed. In this case, however, full load power is not so much improved as the volumetric efficiency increases because of severe knock. In the dual advance condition, there is no merit in the fuel economy and emission.

  • Graphene is a single atomic layer of carbon atoms, and has exceptional electrical, mechanical, and optical characteristics. It has been broadly utilized in the fields of material science, physics, chemistry, device fabrication, information, and biology. In this review paper, we briefly investigate the ideas, structure, characteristics, and fabrication techniques for graphene applications in lithium ion batteries (LIBs). In LIBs, a constant three-dimensional (3D) conductive system can adequately enhance the transportation of electrons and ions of the electrode material. The use of 3D graphene and graphene-expansion electrode materials can significantly upgrade LIBs characteristics to give higher electric conductivity, greater capacity, and good stability. This review demonstrates several recent advances in graphene-containing LIB electrode materials, and addresses probable trends into the future.

Phase-Response-Curve(PRC)는 Circadian Time에서 delay-advance로 전환되는 mid-subjective night에 점진적으로 변화되는 weak phase curve로 형성되었다. 이 PRC에서 Li이 빛에 대한 민감성을 둔화시키는 효과를 볼 수 있다.

  • Carbon nanofibers (CNFs) with uniform diameter and controlled size were prepared from catalytic decomposition of $\textrm{C}_{2}\textrm{H}_{2}$ with Ni-MgO catalyst treated by mechanochemical (MC) process. The properties of Ni catalyst, such as size, distribution and morphology, can be governed by tuning grinding time in MC process. As a result, size and structure of CNFs can be tailored. The effect of grinding time to the as-grown CNFs was studied. CNFs with diameter from 10-70 nm were synthesized. CNFs with bundle formation sharing one tip and twisted CNFs were also synthesized with catalyst treated by MC process.

  • This work conducts a validation study for loads analysis of the UH-60A slowed rotor at high advance ratios. The nonlinear flexible multibody dynamics analysis code, DYMORE II, is used with a freewake model for the rotorcraft comprehensive analysis. Wind tunnel test data of airloads and structural loads of a full-scale UH-60A slowed rotor are used for this validation study. This analysis predicts well the thrust reversal phenomenon at the advance ratio of 1.0. The section airloads such as normal forces and pitching moments and the oscillatory blade structural moments in this analysis are compared well or moderately with the measured data, although the higher harmonics components of blade torsion moments are not captured well. This validation study assesses the prediction accuracy and investigates the unique aeromechanics characteristics of a slowed rotor at high advance ratio.

  • Catalytic performance of Co catalysts supported on MgO for the formation of multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) Having 40-60 nm in diameter has been investigated through acetylene decomposition at $600^{\circ}C$. Scanning electron microscopy measurements show that the nanotubes are chain and coiled structures whereas x-ray diffraction patterns indicate the formation of MWCNTs with Co nanoparticles. In addition Raman spectra confirms the format ion of MWCNTs due to presence of characteristic radial breathing mode along with D and G bands.
