The hydrogen storage mechanism of graphite was studied by measuring the electrical resistance change. Graphite was expanded and activated to allow for an easy hydrogen molecule approach and to enlarge the adsorption sites. A vanadium catalyst was simultaneously introduced on the graphite during the activation process. The hydrogen storage increased due to the effects of expansion, activation, and the catalyst. In addition, the electrical resistance of the prepared samples was measured during hydrogen molecule adsorption to investigate the hydrogen adsorption mechanism. It was found that the electrical resistance changed as a result of the easy hydrogen molecule approach, as well as of the adsorption process and the catalyst. It was also notable that the catalyst improved not only the hydrogen storage capacity but also the speed of hydrogen storage based on the response time. The hydrogen storage mechanism is suggested based on the effects of expansion, activation, and the catalyst.
Adsorption of phenol on activated carbon in a fixed bed was studied. The effects of fixed-bed length, superficial velocity (flow rate) and particle size of adsorbent on fixed-bed performance were investigated. Some characteristic parameters such as the breakthrough time ($t_{0.05}$), saturation time ($t_{0.95}$), length of mass transfer zone ($L_{MTZ}$), adsorptive capacity (W), and adsorption rate constant ($K_a$) were derived from the breakthrough curves. Adsorbent particle sizes significantly affected the shape of the breakthrough curve. Larger particle sizes resulted in an earlier breakthrough, a longer $L_{MTZ}$ and a lower adsorption rate. Superficial velocity was a critical factor for the external mass transfer during fixed-bed adsorption process. The external mass transfer resistance was dominant as increasing superficial velocity.
Aqueous phase adsorption of phenols by granular activated carbon was studied in a batch adsorption vessel. Adsorption Isotherms of phenol(Ph), p-chlorophenol(PCP) and p-nitrophenol (PNP) from aqueous solution on granular activated carbon have been obtained. The experimental data were analyzed by the surface and pore diffusion models. Both models could be applied to predict the adsorption phenomena. However, the pore diffusion model was slightly better than the surface diffusion model In representing the experimental data for the initial concentration changes. Therefore, the pore diffusion model was used to predict the change of operating variables such as the agitation speed and Particle size of adsorbent which have influence on the film resistance and intraparticle diffusion.

The new system for identification of organic vapours and analysis method of mechanism between organic vapours and sensitive materials were attempted using the resonant resistance and resonant frequency of Quartz Crystal Analyzer (Q. C. A.). The resonant resistance shift means rheological changes in sensitive LB films occurred by the adsorption of organic vapours, while the resonant frequency shift represent the mass of organic vapour loaded in or on the sensitive LB films. It is thought that we can obtain more accurate response mechanism of organic vapour using the resonant frequency and resonant resistance diagram. The polymeric sensitive material were quantitively depositied using the LB method. In the experimental results, the adsorption behavior of organic vapour response can be decided by two type ; surface adsorption and penetration into sensitive material. Organic vapours had different positions in the Frequency-Resistance (F-R) diagram as to the kinds and concentrations of organic vapours. Thus F-R diagram can be applied to the development of one channel gas sensing system using the Quartz Crystal Analyzer.
Resistances to pitting corrosion of additive manufactured (AM) Ti-6Al-4V alloys in 0.6 M NaBr and 0.6 M NaCl aqueous solutions were compared using micro-droplet cell techniques. With respect to the pitting corrosion resistance, this study focused on two different types of halide anions in aqueous solutions, i.e. $Br^-$ and $Cl^-$. The differences between $Br^-$ and $Cl^-$ halide anions for breakdown on passive films of AM Ti-6Al-4V alloy were explained using Langmuir adsorption model with their equilibrium adsorption coefficients. The results of the analysis showed that the lower resistance to pitting potential of AM Ti-6Al-4V alloy in $Br^-$ aqueous solution was attributed to the higher equilibrium adsorption coefficient of Br-. In addition, micro-electrochemical test results showed that the pitting corrosion resistance of dark grains in additive manufactured Ti-6Al-4V alloy was lower as compared to that of bright grains due to the larger volume of ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ phase that caused the susceptibility to pit initiation.
This study was carried out to know the difference of vapor transmission on the thickness of Paulownia wood(Paulownia tomentosa). The behavior of moisture transmission of wood thickness direction is generally estimated by vapor permeability and vapor transmission resistance. In general, Paulownia wood is known to use of inside material for furniture making, because of the excellent ability of vapor adsorption and/or desorption. Quarter sawing Paulownia wood material is prepared and the thickness is 6.0mm, 7.0mm, 8.0mm, 9.0mm, 10.0mm, respectively. The measurement of vapor transmission were conducted by the "cup method" in accordance with JIS(Japanese Industrial Standard) Z-0208. The experiment was made in the condition of 49.8mmHg vapor pressure difference and $40^{circ}C$ at constant temperature. From the experiment results, it was considered that Paulownia wood is very stable on moisture variation and any other material conditions. In this experiment we found that the vapor permeability and vapor permeance was reduced with the increase of wood thickness to vapor direction and vapor transmission resistance and specific vapor transmission resistance was increased with the increase of wood thickness to vapor direction. Besides moisture contents of adsorption and desorption side were about 5 percent and 14 percent, respectively. Mean value was 9.5 percent and about 10 percent in dry oven method. Moisture gradient was reduced with the increase of wood thickness for a small moisture difference of adsorption and desorption side.
Several new ion exchange resins have been synthesized from chloromethyl styrene-1,4-divinylbenzine with 1%, 2%, 5% and 105-crosslink and macrocyclic ligands of cryptand type by interpolymerization method. The adsorption characteristics and the pH, time, solvents and concentration dependence of the adsorption of uranium ion by this resins were studied. The resins were very stable in both acidic and basic media and have good resistance to heat at $300^{\circ}C$. The uranium ion are not adsorbed on the resins below pH 3.0, but the power of adsorption of it increased rapidly above pH 4.0. The optimum equilibrium time for adsorption of uranium ion was two hours and adsorptive power decreased in proportion to crosslink size of the resins and order of dielectric constants of solvents used and the adsorption for uranium ion was bin the order of $OdienNtn-H_4$ > $OtnNen-H_4$ > $OtnNen-H_4$ > $OenNen-H_4$.
The characteristics of the bacteriophage resistant Lactococcus lactis subsp. cremoris ATCC 11602-A1, the phage-resistant mutant of Lactococcus lactis subsp. cremoris ATCC 11602, was examined. Electron microscopic study of phage adsorption to A1 revealed that after 10 min. incubation of the host-phage mixture, A1 did not show phage adsorption, and after 60 min. did not show a real burst and the release of new phage particles which could be detected in the mixture of its parent strain and phage. However, the phage adsorption rate of A1 after SDS treatment increased to 98%. Moreover, when the cell walls from A1 and parent strain, and the polysaccharide(PS) and peptidoglycan(PG) of their cell wall were mixed with phage and incubated for 15 min., PS and PG from A1 did not bind phage, but only SD-treated cell wall bound phage, and the cell wall and PS of parent strain bound phage. Both A1 and parent strain treated with 0.2 N HCl-and 5% TCA(100$$C) did not bind phage. The results suggest that the phage receptor is still present in the cell wall of the A1, but a cell wall constituent hydrolyzed by SDS blocks phage adsorption by masking the phage receptor. It also suggests that the phage receptor of parent strain is associated with PS of the cell wall.
Relation the phage defense mechanism of phage resistant Lactococcus lactis subsp. cremoris ATCC 11602-A1 to its cell wall components was investigated. To determine whether teichoic acid which is known to be one of the phage receptor site present on the cell wall, phage adsorption was examined after treatment 5% TCA(60%$\CIRC $C) and concanavalin A to the cell wall of A1 and parent strain. However, the adsorption rate of two strains did not change. Total amount of phosphate after TCA treatment did not change in both strains, but a difference between the two strains was observed. Ribitol and glycerol, components of teichoic acid, could not be detected in the cell walls of two strains by GC analysis. These results suggest that although teichoic acid was not present in the cell walls of both strains, the composition of cell wall of two strains was not identical. Measurement of amount of protein and SDS-polyacryamide gel electrophoresis were carried out to examine the involvement of cell wall protein in phage resistance, showing that protein is nothing to do with phage adsorption of parent strain, but phage resistance of A1 is related to protein. Cell wall carbohydrates of A1 contained rhamnose, glucose, and galactose. Total amount of carbohydrate of 1% SDS-treated A1 cell wall was reduced to the level of parent strain. The results suggest that phage resistance of A1 was due to the presence of a higher level of carbohydrates then parent strain, and to interaction of carbohydrate and protein.

Adsorption equilibrium experiments for the phenol on granular activated carbon(16~25 mesh) and powder activated carbon(325 mesh) were carried out at $25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ and the results were expressed with Freundlich isotherm. Adsorption rate experiments were executed in batch adsorption system under the condition that can be neglecting mass transfer resistance at the external surface of the particle. The results were analysed with the Miller's method to evaluate the linear driving force(LDF) adsorption rate constant. Fixed bed adsorption experiments were performed by adopting different flow rates in the activated carbon-phenol system at $25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The theoretical breakthrough curves were estimated with the simple constant pattern solution. The adsorption rate constant of LDF model was not a fixed value but variable with adsorption amount. The experimental results were better agreed with the estimation of breakthrough curve using the variable adsorption rate constant than the results estimated using the average fixed adsorption rate constant.
