Desorption characteristics of VOCs were investigated for the effective recovery of gasoline vapor. The adsorption capacity and desorption capacity were excellent at relatively low temperatures. The differences in the desorption capacity were not large in the condition; desorption temperature $25^{\circ}C$, desorption pressure 760 mmHg, inlet air flow rate 0.5 L/min, but were relatively great in the condition; desorption temperature $0^{\circ}C$, desorption pressure 60 mmHg, inlet air flow rate 1.0 L/min. The desorption ability of pentane was increased to about 81.4%, and the desorption ability of hexane was increased to about 102%, also the desorption ability of toluene was increased to about 156.7% by changes of temperature, pressure, inlet air flow rate in the experimental conditions. The optimum desorption condition for the effective recovery of VOCs was in the conditions; desorption temperature $0^{\circ}C$, desorption pressure 60 mmHg, inlet air flow rate 1.0 L/min.
Desorption reaction characteristics of the commercial activated carbons which were used for the removal of industrial odorants were investigated. BET specific surface area was analyzed to investigate the chemicophysical property of activated carbon. Adsorptivity of activated carbon was estimated by iodine number. Thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) was used to investigate the desorption characteristics. Activation energies and reaction orders for reaction characteristics according to adsorption and desorption of activated carbons were estimated by employing the Friedman method and Freeman-Carroll method. Adsorptivity of reprocessed activated carbons were significantly lower than that of fresh activated carbons. In this study, it was found that the activation energies were 15.9~23.4 kJ/mol in Friedman method and 22.7~33.8 kJ/mol in Freeman-Carroll method.

This experiment was conducted to test desorption and recycling characteristics for silver ion adsorbed into waste coffee grounds by using various desorbing agents such as nitric acid, ethylene diamine triacetic acid (EDTA) and nitrilo triacetic acid (NTA). It is appeared that the highest desorption efficiency for silver ions was obtained as about 97.8 % by 1.0 M of nitric acid solution. Also, in the case of less than 1.0 of the ratio of solid and liquid (S/L) (g/L), silver ions adsorbed onto coffee grounds was desorbed as about 98~100 %, and most of desorption process was completed within 60min. In addition, adsorption capacity of reused waste coffee grounds for silver ions was highly maintained as about 43.9 mg/g until the $2^{nd}$ cycle, as compared with the adsorption capacity with 45.9 mg/g of the adsorption capacity for virgin waste coffee grounds.

In this work, the adsorptive and desorptive behavior of reduced sulfur compounds (RSC) was investigated using the combination of the Peltier cooling (PC)/thermal desorption (TD) unit with the gas chromatographic (GC) detection technique. To examine the adsorptive characteristics of RSC on clothing materials, a total of nine experiments were conducted in a stepwise manner. Once small towel pieces are exposed to significant quantities of RSC standards with high concentrations (10 ppm), the desoprtion stage was then induced by deloading RSC with ultrapure $N_2$ at three different flow rates (FR) of 20, 40, and 60 mL/min. At each FR, the total deloading volume of 400, 800, and 1,600 mL were maintained. These results were then compared in terms of odoring efficiency by dividing the total amount of desorption with the total amount used for exposition or RSC loading. The results indicated that desorption reaction of certain compounds ($CH_3SH$ and DMS) can be influenced significantly with the reducing FR, while they are not affected directly by the total deloading volume. In addition, when the extent of adsorption was compared for most S compounds by the odoring efficiency term, the extent of absorption generally occurred at approximately 1/1000 level of original exposition.
In this study, humidity control ceramics with good adsorption/desorption capabilities and high strength were fabricated from drinking-water treatment sludge (DWTS) and Onggi soil. The DWTS powder heat-treated at $800^{\circ}C$ and Onggi soil were mixed at weight ratios of 40:60, 50:50, 60:40, and 70:30 and fired at $800-1000^{\circ}C$. With increasing DWTS content, density and flexural strength increased. For the sample with a DWTS:Onggi soil weight ratio of 70:30, porosity and specific surface area decreased with increasing firing temperature, attributed to densification and grain growth at high firing temperatures. From the results obtained, a firing temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ is the optimum condition for fabricating humidity control ceramics with good adsorption/desorption capabilities and strength. The maximum adsorbed amount for the sample fired at $800^{\circ}C$ was $439g/m^2$.
This study was carried out to know the difference of vapor transmission on the thickness of Paulownia wood(Paulownia tomentosa). The behavior of moisture transmission of wood thickness direction is generally estimated by vapor permeability and vapor transmission resistance. In general, Paulownia wood is known to use of inside material for furniture making, because of the excellent ability of vapor adsorption and/or desorption. Quarter sawing Paulownia wood material is prepared and the thickness is 6.0mm, 7.0mm, 8.0mm, 9.0mm, 10.0mm, respectively. The measurement of vapor transmission were conducted by the "cup method" in accordance with JIS(Japanese Industrial Standard) Z-0208. The experiment was made in the condition of 49.8mmHg vapor pressure difference and $40^{circ}C$ at constant temperature. From the experiment results, it was considered that Paulownia wood is very stable on moisture variation and any other material conditions. In this experiment we found that the vapor permeability and vapor permeance was reduced with the increase of wood thickness to vapor direction and vapor transmission resistance and specific vapor transmission resistance was increased with the increase of wood thickness to vapor direction. Besides moisture contents of adsorption and desorption side were about 5 percent and 14 percent, respectively. Mean value was 9.5 percent and about 10 percent in dry oven method. Moisture gradient was reduced with the increase of wood thickness for a small moisture difference of adsorption and desorption side.
The biosorption of Pb and Cr by Sargassum thunbergii was investigated in a batch conditions. The Pb and Cr uptake capacity of Sargassum thunbergii was 232.5 mg Pb/g biomass and 91.6 mg Cr/g biomass, respectively. An adsorption equilibria was reached within about 0.5 hr for both the Pb and the Cr. The adsorption parameters for both the Pb and the Cr were determined according to the Langmuir and Freundlich model. With increasing pH values, more negative sites are becoming available for the adsorption of Pb and Cr. The selectivity of mixture solution showed an uptake order of Pb>Cu>Cr>Cd. Pb and Cr adsorbed by S. thunbergii could be recovered ken 0.1 M HCl, 0.1 M $HNO_3$ and 0.1M EDTA by a desorption process, and the efficiency of Pb desorption was above $95.8\%$, whereas the efficiency of the Cr desorption was below $50.7\%$.

We performed the experiments to manufacture the hydrophobic $200cells/in^2$-zeolite honeycomb using HY-type zeolite of Si/Al ratio of 80 for separating and removing the VOCs emitted from small and medium size-plants by adsorption and to determine the drying method for the honeycomb at $105^{\circ}C$ without cracking, then measured performances of the honeycomb to adsorb the benzene, o-xylene, and MEK and to desorb the benzene and MEK saturated on the honeycomb by the nitrogen gas as the desorption gas. As a results, the good honeycomb was formed and the honeycomb was not cracked when the mixing ratio of the zeolite to bentonite to methyl cellulose to polyvinyl alcohol to glycerine to water is 100 : 8.73 : 2.18 : 4.19 : 1.38 : 126 and dried the honeycomb at $105^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours in the drying oven. The shape of the dried honeycomb was not changed after calcination, and the compressive strengths of the honeycomb after drying and calcination were 6.7 and $0.69kg/cm^2$, respectively. The adsorption efficiencies of the honeycomb for benzene, o-xylene, and MEK were $92{\sim}96%$ at the room temperature. The desorption efficiency at $180^{\circ}C$ was higher than that at $150^{\circ}C\;by\;1.5{\sim}13.8%$ depending on the flow rate of the nitrogen gas, and it was found that desorption efficiency is higher than 85% at $180^{\circ}C$ and 1.0L/min of the nitrogen gas. At $180^{\circ}C$ and 0.2 L/min, the concentration of the benzene and MEK in the used desorption gas are higher than 40,000 and 50,000ppm, respectively, so it be used as the fuel for preheating the desorption gas fed into the column in desorption cycle.

Two different experiments, adsorption/desorption and runoff by rainfall simulation of four pesticides, such as alachlor, ethalfluralin, ethoprophos and pendimethalin were undertaken their runoff and erosion losses from sloped land and to assess the influence of their properties and environmental factors on them. The mobility of four pesticides and which phase they were transported by were examined in adsorption study, and the influence of rainfall pattern and sloping degree on the pesticide losses were evaluated in simulated rainfall study. Freundlich adsorption parameters (K) by the adsorption and desorption methods were 1.2 and 2.2 for ethoprophos, 1.5 and 2.6 for alachlor, respectively. And adsorption distribution coefficients (Kd) by the adsorption and desorption methods were 56 and 94 for ethalfluralin, and 104 and 189 for pendimethalin, respectively. K or Kd values of pesticides by the desorption method which were desorbed from the soil after thoroughly mixing, were higher than these ones by the adsorption method which pesticides dissolved in water were adsorbed to the soil. Another parameter (1/n), representing the linearity of adsorption, in Freundlich equation for the pesticides tested ranged from 0.96 to 1.02 by the desorption method and from 0.87 to 1.02 by the adsorption method. Therefore, the desorption method was more independent from pesticide concentration in soil solution than the adsorption method. By Soil Survey and Land Research Center (SSLRC)'s classification for pesticide mobility, alachlor and ethoprophos were classified into moderately mobile $(75{\leq}Koc<500)$, and ethalfluralin and pendimethalin were included to non-mobile class (Koc > 4000). Runoff and erosion loss of pesticides by three rainfall scenarios were from 1.0 to 6.4% and from 0.3 to 1.2% for alachlor, from 1.0 to 2.5% and from 1.7 to 10.1% for ethalfluralin, from 1.3 to 2.9% and from 3.9 to 10.8% for pendimethalin, and from 0.6 to 2.7% and from 0.1 % 0.3% for ethoprophos, respectively. Distribution of pesticides in soil profile were investigated after the simulated rainfall study. Alachlor and ethoprophos were leached to from 10 to 15 cm of soil layer, but ethalfluralin and pendimethalin were mostly remained at the top 5 cm of soil profile. The losses of the pesticides at 30% of sloping degree were from 0.2 to 1.9 times higher than those at 10%. The difference of their runoff loss was related with their concentration in runoff water while the difference of their erosion loss must be closely related with the quantity of soil eroded.

[ $TiO_2-V_2O_5$ ] sol was fabricated using sol-gel method and $TiO_2-V_2O_5$ thin films were fabricated using dip-coating method. $V_2O_5$ sol was added 0.01mole, 0.03mole, 0.05mole into $TiO_2$ sol. As a results of crystalline properties, $V_2O_5$ peaks were not found in spite of $V_2O_5$ additive. Thickness of thin films increased $0.1{\sim}0.25{\mu}m$ every a dipping. Capacitance of thin films increased with increasing heat treatment temperature and it increased largest at $700^{\circ}C$. Capacitance of thin films decreased with increasing $V_2O_5$ additive and it increased largest at 0.01mole. Because adsorption time and desorption time of thin films was about 2 minutes 40 seconds and about 3 minutes 40 seconds respectively, adsorption time was faster about 1 minutes than desorption time.
