The present study was the primary research of developing prevention program for adolescents'deviant behaviors in low-income families. Subjects of this study consisted of 176 adolescents drawn from 8 social-welfare institutions in Chungbuk province. The pilot study was done to examine the applicability of survey instrument. Data were analyzed by the frequency, percentage, Pearson correlation, stepwise regression using SPSS/WIN program. The results were as followings: 1. There was statistically correlated with each other in environmental high-risk and protective factors except an housing environment. The results implies that environmental contexts itself surrounding adolescents in low-income families can be either high-risk factors or protective factors. 2. The adolescents in low-income families perceived that stresses from consumer and school environments were high-risk factors among other environmental contexts. 3. The adolescents in low-income families perceived that resources from friend and school were protective factors among other environmental contexts. 4. The stresses from friend and eating behaviors were significant factors predicting adolescents'relative psychological adjustment. However, the behavioral adjustment was not predicted by environmental contexts. 5. The resources from school, consumer, and eating behaviors were significant factors predicting adolescents'relative psychological adjustment. Also, the resources from school, eating behavior, and family were predictors of behavioral adjustment. This research implies that the findings can be based on the development of prevention program for adolescents deviant behaviors in low-income families.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the mental health and health risk behaviors of multicultural adolescents according to their mothers' native country. Methods: For this study raw data from the 11th Youth Health Behavior Online Survey (2015) was examined. Mental health and health risk behaviors for 62,985 adolescents were analyzed according to their mothers' native country. Collected data were analyzed with the SPSS program using descriptive statistics and logistic regression analysis, to which the complex sample design was applied. Results: The odds ratio of depression in multicultural adolescents compared to Korean adolescents was 44.92 (CI: 5.77-349.59) for adolescents whose mothers came from Cambodia and 3.00 (CI: 1.57-5.76) for adolescents whose mothers came from North Korea. The odds ratio of attempted suicide was 14.73 (CI: 3.09-70.22) for adolescents whose mothers came from Cambodia and 8.63 (CI: 3.45-21.62) for adolescents whose mothers came from North Korea. The odds ratio of problematic drinking in multicultural adolescents was 7.47 (CI: 1.71-32.67) for adolescents whose mothers came from Mongolia. Conclusion: Findings indicate that when planning a health promotion program for adolescents from multicultural families, a customized approach should be sought taking into account the characteristics of mothers' native country.

The paper will also explore the mediating role of impulsiveness between adolescents' emotional bonding with parents, authoritative parenting attitudes and cellular phone addiction. The subjects were made up of 237 adolescents. The data were analyzed with frequency, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and structural equation modeling by PASW and AMOS. The instruments used were Lee et al. (1997) Parenting Attitude, Hudson (1982) Child's Attitude Toward Parent (CATP), Lee (2001) BIS (Barnett Impulsiveness Scale) and Lee (2008) Cellular Phone Addiction. The major findings were as follows: the sex of the adolescents was significantly different with cellular phone addiction and their family economic status was significantly different with adolescents' emotional bonding with parents and cellular phone addiction. Authoritative parenting attitude was negatively correlated with adolescents' emotional bonding with parents and positively correlated with impulsiveness and cellular phone addiction. Emotional bonding of adolescents with parents was negatively correlated with impulsiveness and cellular phone addiction. Adolescents' emotional bonding with parents influenced impulsiveness and cellular phone addiction negatively, and impulsiveness mediated the effects of adolescents' emotional bonding with parents, authoritative parenting attitude and cellular phone addiction. Authoritative parenting attitude influenced adolescents' impulsiveness and cellular phone addiction positively, but impulsiveness influenced cellular phone addiction positively. • Family environment plays a significant role in adolescent development. Multicultural adolescents in Korea are brought up in a distinctive family environment, where they get to experience two different cultures within their families. Thus, it is important to examine how internal characteristics of the family environment in multicultural families and interactions between family members influence adolescents. The aim of the current study was to examine structural relationships among Southeast Asian mothers' and Korean fathers' bilingual socialization, adolescents' attitude toward mothers' native culture, and mother-adolescent relationship satisfaction. Specifically, the following two questions were addressed in this study: 1) Does bilingual socialization of each parent affect adolescents' attitude toward mothers' native culture? 2) Does children's attitude toward mothers' native culture affect mother-adolescent relationship satisfaction? To answer these questions, the survey data from the '2012 Nationwide Survey of Multicultural Families' was analysed, using SEM. The sample consisted of 318 multicultural adolescents (aged 9-17) living with Korean fathers and immigrant mothers from Southeast Asia. The main findings were as follows. First, Korean fathers' bilingual socialization had a positive effect on immigrant mothers' bilingual socialization. The path from Korean fathers' bilingual socialization to adolescents' attitude toward mothers' native culture was significantly mediated by immigrant mothers' bilingual socialization. Second, adolescents' attitude toward mothers' native culture had a positive effect on mother-adolescent relationship satisfaction. Results suggest that Korean fathers' bilingual socialization is an important factor for bilingual socialization of multicultural adolescents. It is also worth noting that each parent's bilingual socialization helps multicultural adolescents to form a positive identity as a member of multicultural families.

  • This study aims to understand whether the effect of poverty is translated to adolescents' mental health though their exposure to violence, which is aggravated by the dangerous environments of the neighborhoods. For this purpose, the study analyzes whether poor adolescents tend to reside on neighborhoods with toxic environments, and whether living in the disadvantageous neighborhood causes the poor adolescents to experience greater violence victimization and fear of violence, and eventually, greater depression and anxiety. The study utilizes secondary analysis of longitudinal data of the Korea Youth Panel Survey. Structural Equation Modeling is used as an analysis method. The study results reveals that poverty has both direct and indirect effects on the level of adolescents' symptoms of depression and anxiety. Especially, poverty affects adolescents' depression and anxiety indirectly through increasing the possibility to reside in more dangerous neighborhoods. Explaining more in detail, living in dangerous neighborhoods seems to expose adolescents more to violence and fear of violence in the neighborhoods and this experience increases the level of depression and anxiety. The study argues that the negative effects of poverty on adolescents should be examined from the view of neighborhood environments. Finally, the study discusses the importance of increasing neighborhood competency as practice and policy implication.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve ubiquitous fashion design which adolescents can be satisfied with. The methods of this study are documentary research of previous studies, survey research and deep interviews. For this study 371 students are selected as samples of survey. As a result of this study, we could know that the adolescents of the 21st century are enjoying actively the culture of consumers and the culture of information era. Domestic adolescents have much knowledge and interest in information and in UFC fashion products. So we can predict that domestic adolescents' interest and desire of UFC fashion products will increase gradually. As for using occasions, adolescents will use UFC fashion products for 'mobile', 'exercise', 'social followship', and as for using purposes, they will use UFC fashion products for 'listening to music', 'playing games', 'communication', 'search for information', etc. So when we develop UFC fashion products for adolescents, we'd rather develop the products for entertainment than for studying. To satisfy the various tastes of adolescents, UFC fashion products must also consider the design factors like styles, colors, materials, etc. In conclusion all UFC fashion products for adolescents must have not only the basic qualities like functions and conveniences, but also the qualities of designs.
