Cold expansion of fastener holes is a mechanical process widely used in the aerospace industry. This treatment leads to an improvement of fatigue behavior due to the developed compressive residual stresses on the hole surface. Despite its importance to aerospace industries, little attention has been devoted to the accurate modeling of the process. This study is devoted to the modeling and simulation of the residual stress resulting from the cold expansion of two adjacent fastener holes. Simultaneous cold expansion of two adjacent holes lead to much higher compressive residual stress than sequential cold expansion.

With the rapid progress of electronics and radio communication technology, human enjoys greater freedom in information communication. However, EMW (Electro-Magnetic Wave) environments have become more complicate and difficult to control. Thus, international organizations, such as the American National Standard Institution (ANSI), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the Comite Internationale Special des Perturbations Radio Electrique (CISPR), etc, have provided standard for controlling the EM wave environments and for the countermeasure of the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). In this paper, the status of EMW absorbers and the goal of smart EMW absorber in the future were described. Furthermore, design method of the smart EM wave absorber with heat radiating function was suggested. The designed smart EM wave absorber has the absorption ability of more than 20 dB from 2 GHz to 2.45 GHz band, the optimum aperture (hole) size, the adjacent hole space, and the thickness of which were 6 mm, 9 mm, and 6.5 mm, respectively. Thus, it is respected that these results can be applied as various EMC devices in electronic, communication, and controlling systems.
In the life style of the neolithic age, cooking and sleeping space was in one room dugout without differentiation of spaces, so to say one room system. Ro(a kind of primitive fire place) was used for both cooking and heating. However, in the early part of the Iron Age, the uses of Ro were separated into two major uses of cooking and heating. Especially, L-shaped Kudle(an unique under floor heating structure of Korea) was invented for the new system of heating, extending to Koguryo Period. The life style of Koguryo Dynasty could be seen through the mural paintings of tombs. For these mural paintings contain of cooking space(Kitchen), meat storage, and mill house drawing, we can recognize that houses were specialized many quaters according to their function. Also a kitchen fuel hole for preparing food was built without relation to L-shaped Kudle. But during Koryo Period, Kudle could be set up all over the room, the so-called Ondol(the unique Korean panel heating system) settled down. From this development of heating system, room could be adjacent to kitchen, and kitchen fuel hole and heating fuel hole be onething. This system was developed with variety, extending to Chosun Dynasty. In the period of Chosun Dynasty, a kitchen was made close to an Anbang(Woman's living room), and Anbangs Ondol was heated by the warmth of a cooking fireplace. Therefore Handae Puok, outer kitchen was used in summer. As for its storage space, it was seen that there were a pantry near the kitchen and a store house constructed as an independant building. In the latter, it was devided into a firewood storage, a Kimchi storage, and a rice storage, etc. Especially it is a unique feature that 'Handae-Duyju', an outer rice chest which keeps rice, was constructed as an isolated small building.

1. Introduction : Molecular diffusion of small molecules in polymers plays an important role in many areas where polymers are acting as barriers, and in separation processes, such as selective diffusion. Different applications of polymers have different requirements on their transport properties. Therefore, reliable predictions of diffusion coefficients for small molecules in polymeric materials could be a useful tool to design appropriate materials. For many years, the theories based on free-volume concepts have been widely used to correlate and predict diffusion behavior in polymer/solvent systems. In the theory derived by Vrentas and Duda, the empty space between molecules that is available for molecular transport, referred to as hole free-volume, is being redistributed. Molecular transport will occur only when a free-volume of sufficient size appears adjacent to a molecule and the molecule has enough energy to jump into this void. The diffusive jump is considered complete when the void left behind is closed before the molecule returns to its original position. In this paper, the Vrentas-Duda free-volume theory is presented and the methods to estimate free-volume parameters for predicting polymer/ solvent diffusion coefficients are described in detail.

It has been known that high-speed solar wind streams associated with coronal holes lead to quasi-periodic substorms that occur approximately every $2{\sim}4$ hours. In this paper we examined 222 repetitive substorms that occurred during high-speed stream periods in July through December in 2003 to quantitatively determine a range of energy input from the solar wind into the magnetosphere between two consecutive substorms. For this study, we have used the Akasofu ${\varepsilon}$-parameter to time-integrate it for the interval between two consecutive substorms, and have applied this method to the 222 substorms. We find that the average amount of solar wind input energy between two adjacent substorms is $1.28{\times}10^{14}J$ and about 85% out of the 222 substorms occur after an energy input of $2{\times}10^{13}{\sim}2.3{\times}10^{14}J$. Based on these results, we suggest that it is not practical to predict when a sub storm will occur after a previous one occurs purely based on the solar wind-magnetosphere energy coupling. We provide discussion on several possible factors that may affect determining substorm onset times during high-speed streams.
Objective : Arachnoid cysts (ACs) can be cured by making the definite and wide communication between the cyst and arachnoid space using endoscopy, but often it is impossible only through the usual working-channel (intra-channel) procedures. We discuss and propose a more valuable endoscopic technique with the presentation of our series of cases. Methods : We treated 9 patients with cortical AC in various locations with extra-channel endoscopic techniques. The patients ranged in age from 3 years to 60 years (mean age, 37.2 yrs). The follow-up period ranged from 12 to 26 months (mean follow-up duration, 17.2 months). All patients had large AC compressing the adjacent brain with clinical symptoms or signs. The authors performed extensive fenestration via single burr hole with the aid of endoscope. Being bypassed the rigid endoscope, through the space between the shaft of endoscope and guiding cannula (extra-channel method), fenestration procedures were done in the dry fields. Results : Eight (88.9%) patients had been treated successfully with endoscope. One patient required shunt procedure. Among the eight patients who were treated with endoscopic procedure, 6 patients (66.7%) showed cyst reduction, and two (22.2%) showed disappearance of cyst. Conclusion : We suggest that extra-channel method will be simple and easy to perform using more valuable instruments with wider working area, and may promise better results compared to the conventional intra-channel endoscopic procedures.

The buffer materials in disposal hole are exposed to the decay heat from spent nuclear fuels and groundwater inflow through adjacent rockmass. Since understanding of thermal-hydro-mechanical-chemical (T-H-M-C) interaction in buffer material is crucial for predicting their long-term performance and safety of disposal repository, it is necessary to investigate the heating-hydration characteristics and consequent T-H-M-C behavior of the buffer materials under disposal conditions considering geochemical factors. In response, the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute developed a laboratory-scale 'Lab.THMC' experiment system, which characterizes the T-H-M behavior of buffer materials under different geochemical conditions by analyzing heating-hydration process and stress changes. This technical report introduces the detail design of the Lab.THMC system, summarizes preliminary experimental results, and outlines future research plans.
The objective of this present study is to understand long term(500 years) thermohydromechanical interaction behavior on joints adjacent to a repository cavern, when high level radioactive wastes are disposed of within discontinuous granitic rock masses, and then, to contribute this understanding to the development of a disposal concept. The model includes a saturated discontinuous granitic rock mass, PWR spent nuclear fuels in a disposal canister surrounded with compacted bentonite inside a deposition hole, and mixed bentonite backfilled in the rest of the space within a repository cavern. It is assumed that two joint sets exist within a model. Joint set 1 includes joints of $56^{\circ}$ dip angle, spaced 20m apart, and joint set 2 is in the perpendicular direction to joint set 1 and includes joints of $34^{\circ}$ dip angle, spaced 20m apart. The two dimensional distinct element code, UDEC is used for the analysis. To understand the joint behavior adjacent to the repository cavern, Barton-Bandis joint model is used. Effect of the decay heat from PWR spent fuels on the repository model has been analyzed, and a steady state flow algorithm is used for the hydraulic analysis.
A new analytical model for the base current of Si/SiGe/Si heterojunction bipolar transistors(HBTs) has been developed. This model includes the hole injection current from the base to the emitter, and the recombination components in the space charge region(SCR) and the neutral base. Distinctly different from other models, this model includes the following effects on each base current component by using the boundary condition of the excess minority carrier concentration at SCR boundaries: the first is the effect of the parasitic potential barrier which is formed at the Si/SiGe collector-base heterojunction due to the dopant outdiffusion from the SiGe base to the adjacent Si collector, and the second is the Ge composition grading effect. The effectiveness of this model is confirmed by comparing the calculated result with the measured plot of the base current vs. the collector-base bias voltage for the ungraded HBT. The decreasing base current with the increasing the collector-base reverse bias voltage is successfully explained by this model without assuming the short-lifetime region close to the SiGe/Si collector-base junction, where a complete absence of dislocations is confirmed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM)[1].The recombination component in the neutral base region is shown to dominate other components even for HBTs with a thin base, due to the increased carrier storage in the vicinity of the parasitic potential barrier at collector-base heterojunction.
