  • The effect of moistening and air-drying of acid-conditioned dentin before priming on the formation of resin-dentin hybrid zone was investigated, Freshly extracted human molars were used and divided at random into 5 groups, Groups 1 - 3 consisted of specimens conditioned with 10 % phosphoric acid for 20 seconds; Group 1 served as a control in which the conditioned dentin was simply blot-dried with a damp facial tissue; Group 2 was air dried for 30 seconds ; Group 3 was air dried for 30 seconds and immediately remoistened for 10 seconds with air-water syringe. and then the specimen was blot-dried with a damp facial tissue. Groups 4-5 were not acid conditioned ; In group 4, the smear layer on the dentin was blot dried before primer placement; Group 5 was air dried only for 30 seconds, The acetone-based primer and bonding agent of All Bond 2 (Bisco. Inc., USA) and composite resin (Z-100, 3M Dental products, USA) were applied for acid conditioned dentin and non-conditioned dentin. The morphologic ultrastructure of resin-dentin hybrid zone was examined by the use of SEM and TEM. and the existence of inorganic material and analysis of Ca/P weight-percent ratio in the resin-dentin hybrid zone were revealed by the EDAX, The results were as follows : 1. In the moistened specimens from acid-conditioned groups, the resin penetrated about 3-$4{\mu}m$ into dentin and the denatured collagen smear layer was not present at the surface. The resin tag was formed to a thickeness of 3-$4{\mu}m$ at the upper part of dentinal tubule and compactively connected to each other by means of many lateral branching. 2. In the air-dried specimens from acid-conditioned groups, the resin penetrated about 2.0-$2.5\;{\mu}m$ into dentin and an upper thin black layer to a thickness of 30-35nm was identified between adhesive resin and demineralized collagen layer. The resin tag to have a diameter of $2.5{\mu}m$ was formed at the upper part of dentinal tubule. However the funnel shape of the tag was not notable compared to the moistened specimens. 3. In the remoistened specimens from acid conditioned groups, the resin penetrated about 2.0-$2.5{\mu}m$ into dentin and an upper black layer was not present. The resin tag at the upper part of dentinal tubule was formed less than $2{\mu}m$ and was weakly connected to each other by means of few lateral branching. 4. In the non-conditioned groups, the smear layer was formed to a thickness of $0.5{\mu}m$ at dentin surface. However, the resin-dentin hybrid zone was not identified by TEM. The evidence of resin penetration into intertubular and intratubular dentin did not show. 5. All the acid-conditioned groups showed that the detected calcium and phosphorus weight percent ratios at the $2{\mu}m$ upper portion from the resin-dentin interface into the resin were much higher than that at the $2{\mu}m$ lower portion from the resin-dentin interface to dentin. • The fuselage-wing intersection suffers from the cyclic bending moment of variable amplitude. Therefore, the influence of cyclic bending moment on the delamination and the fatigue crack propagation behavior in AFRP/Al laminate of fuselage-wing was investigated in this study. The cyclic bending moment fatigue test in AFRP/Al laminate was performed with five levels of bending moment. The shape and size of the delamination Lone formed along the fatigue crack between aluminum sheet and aramid fiber-adhesive layer were measured by an ultrasonic C-scan. The relationships between da/dN and ΔK, between the cyclic bending moment and the delamination zone size, and between the fiber bridging behavior and the delamination zone were studied. As results, fiber failures were not observed in the delamination zone in this study, the fiber bridging modification factor increases and the fatigue crack growth rate decrease and the shape of delamination zone is semi-elliptic with the contour decreasing non-linearly toward the crack tip.

  • The substrate patterned with the dry film has the cavity which has the $90^{\circ}$ wall angle. Electroplating Cu on this patterned substrate has the differrent shape history with the electrochemical parameters. By potential theory model, the reason of the variation of the shape change with the these parameters was investigated. The shape history could be explained by the current flow and the correlated area effects. By embedding the Ni layer between the Cu layers, shape history with the time was obtained experimentally and the results was compared with the numerical analysis by BEM. The adhesive Cr-Cu film in TAB application was etched with the various condition. The best condition for the etchant of the Cr-Cu film was found.

  • Carbon nanotube actuator, working under physical conditions (in aqueous solution) and converting electrical energy into mechanical energy directly, can be a good substitute for artificial muscle. The carbon nanotube actuator simulated in this paper is an isotropic cantilever type with an adhesive tape which is sandwiched between two single-walled carbon nanotubes. For predicting the static and dynamic characteristic parameters, the analytical model for a 3 layer bimorph carbon nanotube actuator is developed by using Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The governing equation and boundary conditions are derived from energy principles. The induced displacements of the theoretical model are presented in order to investigate the performance of the carbon nanotube actuator with different control voltages. The developed model presents invaluable means for designing and predicting the performance of carbon nanotube actuator that can be used in artificial muscle applications.

  • The machinability of calicium-deoxidized steel is studied in turning by being compared with that of Fe-Si deoxidized steel under a given set of cutting condition. Tool life, cutting force and cutting mechanism are examined on a few sorts of steel. It is found that adhesive layer "Belag" is developed on the cemented carbide tool and the peak value is observed at the cutting speed of 300m/min followed by gradual increase in the thickness of Belag with the increase of cutting speed. the maximum thickness of Belag is also shown at the feed of 0.3mm/rev. On the other hand, the tool life of carbide tool is more favorable than that of high speed steel (SKH 9) in cutting calcium- deoxidized steel. It is considered that the steel deoxidized with Ca-Si shows better machinability a little than that with Fe-Si. However, the cutting force and the shear angle of the former are similar to those of the latter in turning.n turning.

  • This paper deals with the problem of plate separation and anchorage at the ends of steel plates strengthened by EBSP. Test results show that the reinforced concrete beams strengthened by EBSP occurs the premature failure without the beams achieving their full flexural strength at the end of plates. The premature failure is the cause of stress concentrations in the adhesive layer of plate, reinforced concrete incase of lack of plate length. Then a simple, approximate procedure for predicting the shear and normal stress concentrations is investigated by Robert's the ory based on partial interaction theory. The theoretical results are compared, and show close agreement with test results. A method is derived for determining the plate length that prevents the premature anchorage zone failure

  • This paper was designed to assess the adhesive properties of hard coatings on non-nitrided and nitrided various tool steels. Estimations of adhesion were done to scratch test which is mainly used in hard coating. The critical load$(L_c)$ between coating and substrate is defined through analysis of frictional load vs. normal load curve, signals of acoustic emission and optical observations. Coatings employed in this study are TiN, CrN and TiAlN, tools as substrates are STD11, STD61 and SKH51. It was classified to substrates with/without intermediate nitrided layer and hard coatings on substrate were deposited by arc PVD. Results showed that harder substrates and coatings give higher values of critical loads.

  • Molecular dynamics study of thermal NIL (Nano Imprint Lithography) process is performed to examine stamp-resist interactions. A layered structure consists of Ni stamp, poly-(methylmethacrylate) thin film resist and Si substrate was constructed for isothermal ensemble simulations. Imposing confined periodicity to the layered unit-cell, sequential movement of stamp followed by NVT simulation was implemented in accordance with the real NIL process. Both vdW and electrostatic potentials were considered in all non-bond interactions and resultant interaction energy between stamp and PMMA resist was monitored during stamping and releasing procedures. As a result, the stamp-resist interaction energy shows repulsive and adhesive characteristics in indentation and release respectively and irregular atomic concentration near the patterned layer were observed. Also, the spring back and rearrangement of PMMA molecules were analyzed in releasing process.

  • Advanced structure of metal-supported solid oxide fuel cells was devised to overcome sealing problem and mechanical instability in ceramic-supported solid oxide fuel cells. STS430 whose dimensions were 26mm diameter, 1mm thickness and 0.4mm channel width was used as metal support. Thin ceramic layer composed of anode(Ni/YSZ) and electrolyte(YSZ) was joined with STS430 metal support by using a cermet adhesive. $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Co_{0.4}Mn_{0.6}O_{3}$ perovskite oxide was used as cathode material. It was noted that oxygen reduction reaction of cathode governed the overall cell performance from oxygen partial pressure dependance.

  • Carbon nanotubes have outstanding properties which make them useful for a number of high-technology applications. Especially, single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT), working under physical conditions (in aqueous solution) and converting electrical energy into mechanical energy directly, can be a good substitute for artificial muscle. The carbon nanotube structure simulated in this paper is an isotropic cantilever type with an adhesive tape which is sandwiched between two SWNTs. For predicting the geometrical and physical parameters such as deflection, slope, bending moment and induced force with various applied voltages, the analytical model for a 3 layer bimorph nanotube actuator is developed by applying Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The governing equation and boundary conditions are derived from energy Principles. Also, the brief history of carbon nonotube is overviewed and its properties are compared with other functional materials. Moreover, an electro-mechanical coupling coefficient of the carbon nanotube actuator is discussed to identify the electro-mechanical energy efficiency.
