  • Adenomyosis is a benign gynecological disease frequently affecting women of reproductive age. It has a negative impact on the quality of life, causing bleeding disorders, dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic pain, and infertility. However, the molecular mechanisms involved in adenomyosis development remain unclear. This paper summarizes the reports found in the MEDLINE database on the molecular mechanisms involved in the development and progression of uterine adenomyosis. The literature search included the following terms: "adenomyosis," "adenomyoma," "pathogenesis," "molecular mechanisms," and "gynecological disorders." Only peer-reviewed, English-language journal articles were included. This review focuses on the molecular genetics, epigenetic modifications, and pivotal signaling pathways associated with adenomyosis development and progression, which will provide insights into and a better understanding of its underlying pathophysiology.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of herbal medicine during the Western medicine therapy in adenomyosis. Methods: The author searched 5 electronic databases and search keywords were 'Adenomyosis' and 'Herbal Medicine'. We included randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) using herbal medicine therapy combined Western medicine for adenomyosis patients. Results: The author selected 12 studies. The systematic review of the 12 trials indicated that herbal medicine therapy integrated Western medicine therapy was more effective than Western medicine therapy alone. Conclusions: The herbal medicine therapy combined Western medicine for adenomyosis patients seems to improve pain relief and improvement of illness from this research. However, this result should be taken cautiously by unclear risk of bias. More clinical research will be needed to standardize the results of this study through herbal medicine.

  • Objective: A case report on the improvement of adenomyosis using cell correction nutritional therapy. Methods: A 39-year-old Korean woman who experienced severe dysmenorrhea after childbirth and had elevated levels of cancer antigen 125 (CA-125) during recent regular check-up. Results: Application of nutritional therapy resulted in relief of dysmenorrhea, elimination of oxidized blood, and reduction in CA-125 levels. Conclusion: Nutritional therapy can be helpful in alleviating symptoms and assisting in the treatment of patients with adenomyosis.

Results: As a result, 12 records (14 cases) were found to be analyzed according to their modes of diagnosis, symptoms, interventions, treatment period, follow up period and relevant outcomes. In diagnosis of adenomyosis, the most used method was ultrasonography. The most common complaint for patients with adenomyosis was dysmenorrhea. The most applied intervention for adenomyosis was herbal medication. Acupuncture was the second most used. Conclusions: Analyzing the domestic study trends would be helpful to establish a basic knowledge of the future study. It is anticipated that this review benefits the future in-depth study to confirm the efficacy of Korean medicine treatments for adenomyosis.

  • To avoid improper tumor volume contouring in radiation therapy (RT) and other invasive procedures, we report a case of uterine adenomyosis showing increased $^{18}F$-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake on positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) mimicking malignant tumor in a 44-year-old woman during concurrent chemoradiation therapy (CCRT) for uterine cervical cancer. The adenomyosis was not associated with her menstrual cycle or with normal endometrium uptake, and it resolved one month after completion of RT. This case indicates that uterine adenomyosis in a premenopausal woman may show false positive uptake of $^{18}FDG$-PET/CT associated with CCRT.
