To investigate the influence of the prolactin receptor 3 (PRLR3) gene and the retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4) gene on the production traits of swine, genotyping was performed on 156 and 141 Berkshire pigs, respectively, that were carefully selected for economic traits. The frequencies of allele A in the PRLR3 locus and allele B in the RBP4 locus were 0.50 and 0.42, respectively. Neither locus was in the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. After a genotype was assigned to the individuals whose parents had the homozygous genotype, a statistical analysis was conducted for 291 pigs. The animals with the PRLR3 and RBP4 genotypes included 182 and 227 head, respectively. Even though the genotypic effects of PRLR3 (p<0.05) and RBP4 (p<0.01) had a significant influence on the pigs' back fat thickness, the interaction of both genes was not highly significant in terms of the back fat thickness (p = 0.1235). While the estimated epistasis effects of aaBB and aaBb decreased the back fat thickness and reduced the growth rate, the effects of AAbb and aabb increased the growth rate. Despite the insignificant difference in the PRLR genotypes in terms of the days to 90 kg and the average daily gain, the back fat thickness showed a significant difference (p<0.05), and the additive effect of allele A and the dominant effect of the hetero-genotype were -0.377 and 1.206 mm, respectively. The RBP4 genotypes had a very significant effect (p<0.01) on the back fat thickness, the days to 90 kg, and the average daily gain. The additive effects of allele B of the RBP4 locus on the back fat thickness, the days to 90 kg, and the average daily gain were 0.70 mm, -1.3 days and 6.2 g, respectively. Moreover, the dominant effects of the heterozygote for those traits were 0.63 mm, 9.9 days and -45.0 g, respectively. Allele A of the PRLR3 locus favorably influenced the back fat thickness, the days to 90 kg of the body weight, and the average daily gain and its dominant effect unfavorably influenced those traits. Allele B of RBP4 showed an incremental growth rate and back fat thickness, which could lower the lean meat percentage in the carcass. The RBP4 hetero-genotype negatively affected the pork production. These results strongly imply that the selection of allele A of PRLR3 and allele B of RBP4 would produce highly productive pigs in the Berkshire breed. Careful selection of allele B of RBP4 is required because of the increase in the back fat thickness.

The effects of $La_2O_3$on the microstructure and electrical characteristics of Pr-based ZnO varistors were investigated. The average grain size increased in the range of 21.9~56.3$\mu$ m with increasing $La_2O_3$additive content(0.0~2.0 mol%). La was, of course grain boundary, largely segregated at the nodal point. As $La_2O_3$additive content increases, threshold voltage and nonlinear coefficient decreased and leakage current increased. In particular, 2.0 mol% $La_2O_3$-added varistor exhibited low threshold voltage 17.0V/mm and nonlinear coefficient of about 6. Based on these results, this varistor can be said to be used as low-voltage varistor, if nonlinear coefficient is somewhat improved forward.

In many epidemiological and medical studies, a number of cancer mortalities in categorical classification may be considered as having Poisson distribution with person-years at risk depending upon time. The cancer mortalities have been evaluated by additive or multiplicative models with regard to background and excess risks based on several covariances such as sex, age at the time of bombings, time at exposure, or ionizing radiation, cigarette smoking habits, duration of smoking habits, etc. An interest herein is to examine an additive, synergistic, or antagonistic relationship between radiation exposures and cigarette smoking habits for cancer mortalities. The results revealed a highly significant antagonistic in uence for cancer mortalities from all non-hematologic findings, lung and respiratory system with negative interaction between radiation exposures and cigarette smoking amounts.
Effective way of cooking oil fire extinguishment is using water mist system which has cooling and smothering effects. Low pressure water mist system has advantage because it is compatible with existing sprinkler systems. To increase the effectiveness of low pressure water mist system, additives can be used which increase the momentum of water particle and the chemical effect. In this experiment, aqueous film forming form(AFFF) agent is used as additive and the effect of additive concentration and water pressure are experimented. For the extinguishment of cooking oil fire such as soybean and olive oils, AFFF agent is effective and can decrease the fire extinguishing time and water consumption.
Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), an octane booster that is added to the reformulated gasoline, has been a widespread contaminant in aquatic ecosystem. MTBE is a recalcitrant pollutant having low biodegradability. Due to its higher water solubility and low octanol-water partition coefficient, it can be rapidly transported to the surrounding water environment. Also, MTBE is a known animal carcinogen, and is classified as a possible human carcinogen by U. S. Environmental Protection Agency. The adverse effect of MTBE to aquatic biota was widely reported. In Korea, the recent detection of MTBE in groundwater near gasoline filling stations has drawn concern to public health and ecosystem. To address this concern, the effect of MTBE to human health and ecosystem was discussed in this review. Also, ecotoxicity data of MTBE for fish, invertebrates, and algae were extensively compared to estimate the hazard concentration 5($HC_5$) of MTBE as a screening level.

In this study, we investigate the effects of the weight function in the bounded influence regression quantile (BIRQ) estimator for the AR(l) model with additive outliers. In order to down-weight the outliers of X -axis, the Mallows' (1973) weight function has been commonly used in the BIRQ estimator. However, in our Monte Carlo study, the BIRQ estimator using the Tukey's bisquare weight function shows less MSE and bias than that of using the Mallows' weight function or Huber's weight function. Thus, the use of the Tukey's weight function is recommended in the BIRQ estimator for our model.
Carbon nanotube field emission display devices were fabricated using screen printing techniques. The CNT pastes are composed of organic binder, CNT, and additive materials such as glass frit, silver or ITO powders. The change in mixing ratio of various organic binders in CNT paste varied the electron emission characteristics. With increasing the contents of additive materials in CNT paste, turn-on field were increased, leading to decrease in electron emission current. The post-treatment process in this study induced the vertical alignment of carbon nanotubes on glass, resulting in the improvement of electron emission uniformity.

In order to enhance sustainable war fighting capabilities, it is important to maintain a good ammunition support system. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of Ammunition companies using Imprecise Data Envelopment Analysis (IDEA)-BCC and IDEA-Additive model, which can deal with imprecise data in DEA. In order to select a list of input and output variables, we used a multiple regression analysis. We could choose input variables that have significant effects on the output performance with stepwise regression model. From the regression analysis, the number of soldiers, officers, and ammunition warehouses were selected as the input variables. Seven out of sixteen Ammunition companies were found to be inefficient by the IDEA-BCC model. And using IDEA-Additive model, we could identify the input excess and the output shortfall in reaching at a point on the efficiency frontier.

With the variation of Ag concentration in bath, current density, additive and agitation for electroplating of Sn-Ag solder, the compositions and the morphologies of solder were studied. It was possible to control Ag content in Sn-Ag solder by varying Ag concentration in bath and current density The microstructure size of Sn-Ag solder decreased with increasing current density. Duty cycle of pulse electroplating and quantity of additive affected on Ag content of deposit and surface roughness. In this work eutectic Sn-Ag solder bumps with fine pitch of 30m and height of 15m was formed successfully. The Ag content of electrodeposited solder was confirmed by EDS and WDS analyses and the surface morphologies was analyzed by SEM and 3D surface analyzer.
The effect of high-temperature spinning and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) additive on poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) hollow fiber membranes was investigated using differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction measurement, and scanning electron microscopy, together with the corresponding microfiltration performances such as water flux, rejection rate, and elongational strength. Using high-temperature spinning, porous hollow fiber membranes with particulate morphology were prepared through PVDF crystallization. The particulate structure of the membranes was further modified by the addition of miscible PVP with PVDF. Due to these effects, the rejection rate and strength of the fibers were increased at the expense of reduced water flux and mean pore size, which indicates that high-temperature spinning and PVP addition are vary effective to control the morphology of PVDF hollow fiber membranes for microfiltration.
