In this paper, we investigate the characteristics of wet soil concrete according to the addition ratio of liquefaction red mud addition rate by liquefying red mud. as a result, the compressive strength decreased and the water absorption ratio increased as the liquefaction red mud addition rate increased.
This study was carried out to evaluate the relationship between threonine (Thr) efficiency and Thr dehydrogenase (TDG) activity as an indicator of Thr oxidation on chicks fed with levels of diets (CP [17.5% and 21.5%] and Thr [3.8 and 4.7 g/100 g CP]; glycine [Gly][0.64% and 0.98%] and true digestible Thr [dThr] [0.45% and 0.60%]). Calculation of the Thr efficiency was based on N-balance data and an exponential N-utilization model, and TDG activity was determined as accumulation of aminoacetone and Gly during incubation of hepatic mitochondria. This study found that in the liver of chicks who received a diet containing up to 0.79% Thr (4.7 g Thr/100 g of CP) in the 17.5% CP diet, no significant (p>0.05) effect on TDG activity was observed. However, significantly (p = 0.014) increased TDG activity was observed with a diet containing 21.5% CP (4.7 g Thr/100 g of CP) and the efficiency of Thr utilization showed a significant (p = 0.001) decrease, indicating the end of the Thr limiting range. No significant (p>0.05) effect on the total TDG activity and accumulation of Gly was observed with addition of Gly to a diet containing 0.45% dThr. In addition, addition of Gly to a diet containing 0.60% dThr also did not result in a change in accumulation of Gly. Due to an increase in accumulation of aminoacetone, an elevated effect on total TDG activity was also observed. No significant (p>0.05) reduction in the efficiency of Thr utilization was observed after addition of Gly at the level of 0.45% dThr. However, significantly (p<0.001) reduced efficiency of Thr utilization was observed after addition of Gly at the level of 0.60% dThr. Collectively, we found that TDG was stimulated not only by addition of Thr and protein to the diet, but also by addition of Gly, and efficiency of Thr utilization was favorably affected by addition of Gly at the level near to the optimal Thr concentration. In addition, no metabolic requirement of Gly through the TDG pathway was observed with almost the same accumulation of Gly and a slight increase in TDG activity by addition of Gly. Thus, our findings suggest that determination of TDG activity and parameter of efficiency of Thr utilization may be useful for evaluation of dietary Thr level.
This experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of adding encapsulated-glucose, glucose, sorbic acid or prefermented juice of epiphytic lactic acid bacteria (FJLB) on the fermentation quality and residual mono- and disaccharide composition of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam) silages. The additive treatments were as follows: (1) control (no addition), (2) encapsulated-glucose addition at 0.5% for glucose, (3) glucose addition at 1%, (4) sorbic acid addition at 0.1%, (5) FJLB addition at a theoretical application rate of $2.67{\times}10^5$ CFU (colony forming unit) $g^{-1}$, on a fresh weight basis of Italian ryegrass. Although control and encapsulated-glucose treatments had higher contents of butyric acid (33.45, 21.50 g $kg^{-1}$ DM) and ammonia-N/Total nitrogen (114.91, 87.01 g $kg^{-1}$) as compared with the other treated silages, the fermentation in all silages was clearly dominated by lactic acid. This was well indicated by the low pH (4.38-3.59), and high lactic acid/acetic acid (4.39-22.97) and lactic acid content (46.85-121.76 g $kg^{-1}$ DM). Encapsulated-0.5% glucose and glucose addition increased lactic acid/acetic acid, and significantly (p<0.05) decreased ammonia-N/total nitrogen, and the contents of butyric acid and total volatile fatty acids (VFAs) as compared with the control. However, there were higher butyric acid and lower residual mono-and di-saccharides on the two treatments as compared with sorbic acid and FJLB addition, and their utilization efficiency of water soluble carbohydrates (WSC) was lower than that of both sorbic acid and FJLB additions. Sorbic acid addition showed the lowest content of ethanol and ammonia-N/total nitrogen, and the highest content of residual fructose and total mono-and disaccharides as well as the higher lactic acid/acetic acid value. Sorbic acid addition decreased the loss of mono-and disaccharides, and inhibited the activity of clostridial and other undesirable bacteria, and greatly increased the utilization efficiency of fermentable substrates by epiphytic LAB. FJLB addition had the lowest pH value and the highest lactic acid content among all additive treatments, with the most intensive lactic acid fermentation occurring in FJLB treated silage. This resulted in the faster accumulation of lactic acid and faster pH reduction. Sorbic acid and FJLB addition depressed clostridia or other undesirable bacterial fermentation which decreased the WSC loss and saved the fermentable substrate for lactic acid fermentation.
This study aims to investigate the possibility of elementary students' generalization from three-digit numbers to multi-digit numbers in principles for addition and subtraction. One of main changes was the reduction of range of numbers for addition and subtraction from four-digit to three-digit. It was hypothesized that the students could generalize the principles of addition and subtraction after learning the three-digit addition and subtraction. To achieve the purpose of this study, we selected two groups as a sampling. One is called 'group 2015' who learned four-digit addition and subtraction and the other is called 'group 2016' who learned addition and subtraction only to three-digit. Because of the particularity of these subjects, this study covered two years 2015~2016. We applied our addition and subtraction test which contains ten three-digit or four-digit addition and subtraction items, respectively. We collected their results of the test and analyzed their differences using t-test. The results showed statistically meaningful difference between the mean score of the two groups only for four-digit subtraction. Based on the result, we discussed and made some didactical suggestions for teaching multi-digit addition and subtraction.
This study was undertaken to find out the effect of eeg albumen concentration and addition of sugars on the functional properties of egg albumen before and after heat treatment at $60^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes. The turbidity was decreased until 8.3% protein concentration but increased as diluted and decreased again below 3.32% protein concentration before and after the heat treatment. The foaming power was peak at 8.3% protein concentration but decreased as diluted before and after the heat treatment. The foam stability was decreased as diluted before and after the heat treatment. The turbidity was not changed by addition of sucrose before the heat treatment and decreased after the heat treatment. The foaming power was decreased by addition of over 5% sucrose before the heat treatment and decreased by addition of over 2.5% sucrose after the heat treatment . The foam stability was increased by addition of over 5% sucrose before the heat treatment and increased by addition of sucrose after the heat treatment. The turbidity was increased by addition of glucose before the heat treatment and not changed after the heat treatment. The foaming power was decreased by the addition of glucose before the heat treatment and decreased by the addition of over 5% glucose after the heat treatment. The foam stability was decreased by the addition of glucose before and after the heat treatment.

As an effort to increase the use of tomato as a food ingredient, this study prepared noodle with adding tomato powder and measured its quality characteristics. In the noodle containing tomato powder (0.5~2% of flour in volume), the water content was lower in the 1.5% and 2% tomato powder addition groups, and with increase in the tomato powder addition ratio the crude protein content and the crude fat content decreased and the carbohydrate content increased. The weight and volume of boiled noodle decreased with increase in the tomato powder addition ratio, and the pH of the water that boiled the noodle decreased and its turbidity increased with increase in the tomato powder addition ratio. Value L went down, and as to value a, the tendency of (-) green was stronger in the tomato powder addition groups than in the control. In addition, value b went up with increase in the tomato powder addition ratio. All the measurements of mechanical texture became significantly higher with increase in the tomato powder addition ratio, and DPPH radical scavenging activity and the total polyphenol content also went up. As to sensory palatability, the tomato powder addition groups were significantly higher than the control group in color, chewiness, and overall palatability. Specifically, palatability in terms of color and chewiness was highest in the 1.5% and 2% tomato powder addition groups, and overall palatability was highest in the 1.5% tomato powder addition group.
This study analyzed the introduction of addition and subtraction, including the composition and decomposition of numbers in the Korean, Singaporean, American, and Japanese elementary mathematics textbooks. The analytic foci of this study included visual models and their connections with the given problem contexts, the introduction of addition/subtraction or addition/subtraction sentences and their connections with the visual models, and additional activities for students to develop a relational understanding of the equal sign. The results of the analysis demonstrated diverse connections, mainly because the problem contexts, visual models, and the introduction of addition/subtraction or addition/subtraction sentences were implemented differently for each textbook. There were differences among the textbooks in what order of problem contexts were presented. Regarding the use of visual models, two textbooks tended to use one model consistently, whereas the other textbooks used various models depending on the problem contexts. There were subtle but significant differences in introducing addition/subtraction or addition/subtraction sentences. For a relational understanding of the equal sign, all textbooks included activities emphasizing that both sides of the equal sign are equal. Based on the results of this study, this paper closes with several implications related to the problem contexts to introduce addition/subtraction and addition/subtraction sentences as well as the use of visual models, which can serve as a basis for a new unit for the subsequent textbook.
The sintering behavior and B-H loop properties of $Li_{0.5O4}$ with the addition of $Nb_2O_5$ and $V_2O_5$ have been investigated by observation of microstructures and measurement of semi-static hysteresis loops. The sintering temperature was lowered by the additions of $Nb_2O_5$ and $V_2O_5$ and the effect of $V_2O_5$ addition was greater than that of $Nb_2O_5$. The abnormal grain growth was observed at about 100$0^{\circ}C$(d:4.6g/㎤) and 85$0^{\circ}C$(d:4.5g/㎤) in the specimens with the addition of $Nb_2O_5$ and $V_2O_5$ respectively. The addition of $Nb_2O_5$ retulted in a large and uniform grain size, and the addition of $V_2O_5$ resulted in a uniform grain size but the final density was lower than that of the pure specimen. The squareness was increased and the coercive force was decreased by the addition of $Nb_2O_5$, and the squareness was decreased and the coercive force was increased by the addition of $V_2O_5$. These effects could be explained by a large and uniform grain size, and by a lower final density of specimens with the addition of $Nb_2O_5$ and $V_2O_5$ respectively.
The effects of Backryeoncho (Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten) powder addition (0, 0.4, 0.8, and 1.2%) on the pH, titratable acidity, lactic acid contents, microbial contents, texture, and sensory evaluation of cabbage Kimchi, stored at $10^{\circ}C$ for 36 days were studied to establish an optimum recipe. Upon addition of Backryeoncho powder, pH was higher than that of Kimchi without powder after 36 days of fermentation. The titratable acidity was increased by the addition of Backryeoncho powder, and 0.4% powder added Kimchi showed the slowest changing level. During the fermentation period, the degree of salinity decreased with the addition of powder from 2.52 to 2.19 to 2.10. The a value was higher in Kimchi with added Backryeoncho powder in a dose-dependent manner compared with control Kimchi. The cutting force and compression force were higher during the fermentation period, and especially addition of 0.4% powder showed the highest value of hardness. The addition of powder slowed growth of lactic acid bacteria as compared with the control samples. In the sensory evaluation of overall taste, 0.4% addition of powder improved the quality of Kimchi. Therefore, addition of 0.4% Backryeoncho powder apears to be an acceptable approach to enhance the quality of Kimchi without reducing acceptability.
The present study was carried out to investigate the changes in chemical and sensory properties, and cholesterol lowering effect of evening primrose oil (EPO) addition in cholesterol-reduced Cheddar cheese. The cholesterol removal rate reached 92.07% by ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin in the cheese before EPO addition. The thiobarbituric acid (TBA) value of cholesterol-reduced and EPO-added cheese increased with both ripening time and amount of EPO addition. Addition of 5% EPO resulted in a significant difference in TBA value after 4-week ripening, compared with no addition of EPO. The production of short-chain free fatty acids (FFAs) increased with ripening period in all treatments. From 4 week of ripening, the amounts of short-chain FFA in 3 and 5% EPO-added groups were significantly higher than those in other groups. Among sensory characteristics, rancidity was mostly affected by EPO addition, however, the rancidity value of 1% EPO-added was not significantly different from that of EPO-free and cholesterol-reduced cheese. Also, Cheddar cheese flavor was not profoundly affected by 1% EPO addition in all ripening periods. Total blood cholesterol dramatically decreased from 184.0 to 137.1 mg/dL with 5% EPO-added and cholesterol-reduced cheese following 8 weeks of feeding. The present results indicated that 5% EPO addition resulted in a profound lowering effect on blood total cholesterol with some adverse effects on chemical and sensory properties.
