This paper proposes a sliding mode controller with fuzzy adaptive perturbation compensator(FAPC) to get a good control performance and reduce the chatter, The proposed algorithm can reduce the chattering because the proposed fuzzy adaptive perturbation compensator compensates the perturbation terms. The compensator computes the control input for compensating unmodeled dynamic terms and disturbance by using the observer-based fuzzy adaptive network(FAN) The weighting parameters of the compensate. are updated by on-line adaptive scheme in order to minimize the estimation error and the estimation velocity error of each actuator. Therefore, the combination of sliding mode control and fuzzy adaptive network gives the robust and intelligent routine to get a good control performance. To evaluate the control performance of the proposed approach, tracking control is experimentally carried out for the hydraulic motion platform which consists of a 6-DOF parallel manipulator.
H.264, a recently proposed international video coding standard, has adopted context-based adaptive variable length coding (CAVLC) as the entropy coding tool in the baseline profile. By combining an adaptive variable length coding technique with context modeling, we can achieve a high degree of redundancy reduction. However, CAVLC in H.264 has weakness that the correct prediction rate of the variable length coding (VLC) table is low in a complex area, such as the boundary of an object. In this paper, we propose a VLC table prediction scheme considering multiple reference blocks; the same position block of the previous frame and the neighboring blocks of the current frame. The proposed algorithm obtains the new weighting values considering correctness of the VLC table for each reference block. Using this method, we can enhance the prediction rate of the VLC table and reduce the bit-rate.
Although Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) is a very powerful and attractive tool, automatic interpretation of SAR images is extremely difficult because of several reason. Spatially, speckle noise reduction in SAR images is important step to interpret the SAR image at the preprocessing step. The speckle noise in SAR images is modeled to be multiplicative, and therefore, a signal-dependent noise. So, it has deflated many image-denoising algorithms that are based on additive noise model. In this paper, we propose an adaptive wavelet shrinkage method for speckle noise reduction in SAR images by analyzing the high frequency level in detail. We first decompose minutely the high frequency level to analyze the noise level. And then, we determine the weighting threshold value per the level, and layer. Finally, using those weighting threshold, we produce the efficient wavelet shrinkage method. So, this method not only reduces the speckle noise, but also preserves image detail and sharpness.
This study develops an extended inverse input estimation algorithm with intelligent adaptive fuzzy weighting to effectively estimate the unknown input wind load of nonlinear structural systems. This algorithm combines the extended Kalman filter and recursive least squares estimator with intelligent adaptive fuzzy weighting. This study investigated the unknown input wind load applied on a tower structural system. Nonlinear characteristics will exist in various structural systems. The nonlinear characteristics are particularly more obvious when applying larger input wind load. Numerical simulation cases involving different input wind load types are studied in this paper. The simulation results verify the nonlinear characteristics of the structural system. This algorithm is effective in estimating unknown input wind loads.

In this paper, it is proposed to improve the robustness of the Fast Recursive Least Squarea(FRLS) algolithms with the exponential weighting, which is an important class of algolithms for adaptive filtering. It is well known that the FRLSalgolithm is numerically unstable with exponential weighting factor λ<1. However, introducing some gains into this algolithms, numerical errors can be reduced. An accurately choice of thegains then leads to a numerically stable FRLS algolithm with a complexity of 8m mulitiplications and we shown it by computer simulations.
In this paper, we propose a weighting dependent mixed source model (WD-MSM) coder that is an improved version of a CELP-based mixed source model (C-MSM) coder. The coder classifies speech segments into three types : voiced, unvoiced and mixed. The excitation for a voiced frame is an adaptive source, and the excitation for an unvoiced frame is a stochastic source. The coder has a modified mixed source for a mixed frame. We apply different weighting functions for three classes. Simulation results show that the proposed coder at 4 kbits/s yields very good performance both subjectively and objectively.

In this paper, a comparative studies on the STAP and SFAP were performed, which are known as representative anti-jamming technology for adaptive array antenna. As a method of estimating the weighting vector for simulation, MMSE(Minimum Mean Square Error) algorithm was commonly used and the analyses of the simulation performance in various jamming environments were presented. Especially, performance comparison between STAP and SFAP according to the jamming power J/S(Jamming to Signal Power Ratio), performance comparison in the ratio of jamming bandwidth to signal bandwidth, and performance comparison of BER between STAP and SFAP were presented.

Based on the quincunx sub-sampling grid, the New Interleaved Hierarchical INTerpolation (NIHINT) method is recognized as a superior pyramid data structure for the lossless and progressive coding of natural images. In this paper, we propose a new image interpolation algorithm, Edge Adaptive Hierarchical INTerpolation (EAHINT), for a further reduction in the entropy of interpolation errors. We compute the local variance of the causal context to model the strength of a local edge around a target pixel and then apply three statistical decision rules to classify the local edge into a strong edge, a weak edge, or a medium edge. According to these local edge types, we apply an interpolation method to the target pixel using a one-directional interpolator for a strong edge, a multi-directional adaptive weighting interpolator for a medium edge, or a non-directional static weighting linear interpolator for a weak edge. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves a better compression bit rate than the NIHINT method for lossless image coding. It is shown that the compression bit rate is much better for images that are rich in directional edges and textures. Our algorithm also shows better rate-distortion performance and visual quality for progressive image transmission.

DSC-HDTV image compression algorithm removes spatial, temporal, and amplitude redundancies of an image by using transform coding, motion-compensated predictive coding, and adaptive quantization, respectively. In this paper, leak processing method which is used to recover image quality quickly from scene change and transmission error and adaptive quantization using perceptual weighting factor obtained by HVS are proposed. Perceptual weighting factor is calculated by contrast sensitivity, spatio-temporal masking and frequency sensitivity. Adaptive quantization uses the perceptual weighting factor and global distortion level from buffer history state. Redundant bits according to adaptation of HVS are used for the next image coding. In the case of scene change, DFD using motion compensated predictive coding has high value, large bit rate and unstabilized buffer states since reconstructed image has large quantization noise. Thus, leak factor is set to 0 for scene change frame and leak factor to 15/16 for next frame, and global distortion level is calculated by using standard deviation. Experimental results show that image quality of the proposed method is recovered after several frames and then buffer status is stabilized.
Many different schemes of the adaptive observer and controller have been developed for both continuous and discrete systems. In this paper we have presented a new scheme of the reduced order adaptive observer for the single input discrete linear time invariant plant. The output equation of the plant, is transformed into the bilinear form in terms of system parameters and the states of the state variable filters. Using the plant output equation the discrete implicit adaptive observer based on the similar philosophy to Nuyan and Carroll is derived and the parameter adaptation algorithm is derived based on the exponentially weighted least square method. The adaptive model following control system is also constructed according to the proposed observer scheme. The proposed observer and controller are rather than simple structure and have a fast adaptive algorithm, so it may be expected that the scheme is suitable to the practical application of control system design. The effectiveness of the algorithm and structure is illustrated by the computer simulation of a third order system. The simulation results show that the convergence speed is proportinal to the increasing of weighting factor alpha, and that the full order and reduced order observer have similar convergence characteristics.
