Wavefront Compensation Using a Silicon Carbide Deformable Mirror with 37 Actuators for Adaptive Optics (적응광학계용 37채널 SiC 변형거울을 이용한 파면 보상)

  • In this paper, we deal with the wavefront compensation capability of a silicon carbide (SiC) deformable mirror (DM) with 37 actuators for adaptive optics. The wavefront compensation capability of the SiC DM is predicted by computer simulation and examined by actual experiments with a closed-loop adaptive optics system consistsing of a light source, a phase plate, a SiC DM, a high speed Shack-Hartmann sensor, and a control computer. Distortion of wavefront is caused by the phase plate in the closed-loop adaptive optics system. The distorted wavefront has a peak-to-valley (PV) wavefront error of $0.3{\mu}m{\sim}0.9{\mu}m$ and root-mean-square (RMS) error of $0.06{\mu}m{\sim}0.25{\mu}m$. The high-speed Shack-Hartmann sensor measures the wavefront error of the distortion caused by the phase plate, and the SiC DM compensates for the distorted wavefront. The compensated wavefront has residual errors lower than $0.1{\mu}m$ PV and $0.03{\mu}m$ RMS. Consequently, we conclude that we can compensate for the distorted wavefront using the SiC DM in the closed-loop adaptive optics system with an operating frequency speed of 500 Hz.

Terrain Referenced Navigation for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (자율무인잠수정의 지형참조항법 연구)

  • Underwater TRN (Underwater Terrain Referenced Navigation) estimates an underwater vehicle state by measuring a distance between the vehicle and undersea terrain, and comparing it with the known terrain database. TRN belongs to absolute navigation methods, which are used to compensate a drift error of dead reckoning measurements such as IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) or DVL (Doppler Velocity Log). However, underwater TRN is different to other absolute methods such as USBL (Ultra-Short Baseline) and LBL (Long Baseline), because TRN is independent of the external environment. As a magnetic-field-based navigation, TRN is a kind of geophysical navigation. This paper develops an EKF (Extended Kalman Filter) formulation for underwater TRN. A filter propagation part is composed by an inertial navigation system, and a filter update is executed with echo-sounder measurement. For large-initial-error cases, an adaptive EKF approach is also presented, to keep the filter be stable. At the end, simulation studies are given to verify the performance of the proposed TRN filter. With simplified sensor and terrain database models, the simulation results show that the underwater TRN could support conventional underwater navigation methods.

  • In this paper, a new filtering scheme for vehicle tracking with distorted measurement is presented. This filtering scheme is essential for the implementation of the adaptive cruise control (ACC) system. The proposed method combines the IMM and the probabilistic fuzzy model and is named as the Fuzzy IMM (FIMM). The IMM is employed to recognize the intention of the preceding vehicle. The probabilistic furry model is introduced to compensate the distortion of the range sensor. Finally, a computer simulation is performed to illustrate the validity of the suggested algorithms.

An Adaptive FEC Code Control Algorithm for Mobile Sensor Networks (이동 센서 네트워크를 위한 적응적 FEC 코드 제어 알고리즘)

  • 전파(propagation) 오류가 빈번한 무선 이동 네트워크에서는 전송 성능을 향상하기 위해 FEC(Forward Error Correction) 알고리즘을 채택한다. 그러나 정적인 FEC 코드 제어 방식은 연속적으로 변화하는 전파 오류율에 알맞은 정정 코드(check code)를 적용하지 못해 성능이 저하된다. 일례로 측정한 고 오류 무선 센서 네트워크에서는 초단위 평균 BER(Bit Error Rate) 또는 분단위 평균 BER이 0에서 최대 $10^{-3}$까지 연속적으로 변화한다. 이러한 무선 환경에서 전파 오류를 $100\%$ 복구하기 위한 정정 코드를 채택하는 경우에는, 불필요한 정정 코드량은 전체 데이터에 최대 $20\%$를 차지한다. 본 논문에서는 무선 채널의 BER을 직접 측정하지 않고 패킷 전송 성공 여부에 따라 정정 코드의 량, 즉 FEC단계를 동적으로 변화하는 AFECCC (Adaptive FEC Code Control) 알고리즘을 소개한다. AFECCC는 트레이스 기반(trace-driven) 시뮬레이션에서 정적 FEC 방식에 비해 최대 $5\%$ 이상, 또한 실제 센서 네트워크에서는 정적 FEC 알고리즘에 비해 최대 $15\%$ 성능이 향상되었다.

  • Data collected by sensors in field are transmitted to the base station gathering all of data. Because sensors have to gather data in surroundings and periodically transmit data to the base station, it makes energy consumed much. In this paper, we propose the scheme that is to avoid traffic congestion with achievement of energy efficiency, so collected data is transmitted efficiently. This is to adjust transmission rate differently in case of increasing or decreasing traffic and minimize the energy consumption with setting ideal options up basic CSMA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access) protocol in each sensor. Through the simulation, we find the ideal CSMA options and apply the proposed scheme of traffic control mechanism to them, then show energy efficiency and effective traffic control mechanism.

  • We have been developing an underwater robot for harbour construction using a parallel mechanism The robot is attached to the rope of a crane, which curries a large stone into the undersea The robot's yaw and pitch are controlled by hydraulic cylinders but its roll is uncontrollable. We mount propellers in both side of the robot to generate the roll motion This paper studies on the control for the roll motion of a underwater robot. A gyro-sensor is used to measure the angle in a roll motion We develop the dynamic model to describe the robot's roll motion by a second order non-linear system and identify the model parameters by recursive least square and adaptive identifier. PD control, recursive model based control and adaptive model based control are applied with the dynamic model which computes the control input to compensate disturbances. This paper introduces the underwater robot system and presents the simulated and experimental results of the proposed controller.

  • Distributed power systems (DPSs) has been widely used various industrial/military applications due to their various advantages. Furthermore, the "All electric" concept, in conjunction with DC DPS, appears to be more advanced and mature in the AEV(All-Electric Vehicular) industry. Generally, AEV carry many loads with varied functions. However, there may be large pulsed loads with short duty ratios which can affect the normal operation of other loads. In this paper, a converter with spilt capacitors and a simple adaptive controller is proposed as a active damping device to mitigate the voltage transients on the bus. The proposed converter allows the smaller capacitive storage. In addition, the proposed control approach has the advantage of requiring only one sensor and performing both the functions of mitigating the voltage bus transients and maintaining the level of energy stored. The control algorithm has been implemented on a TMS320F2812 Digital Signal Processor (DSP). Simulation and experimental results are presented which verify the proposed control principle and demonstrate the practicality of the circuit topology.

Smart Control System Using Fuzzy and Neural Network Prediction System

  • In this paper, a prediction system is proposed to control the brightness of smart street lamps by predicting the moving path through the reduction of consumption power and information of pedestrian's past moving direction while meeting the function of existing smart street lamps. The brightness of smart street lamps is adjusted by utilizing the walk tracking vector and soft hand-off characteristics obtained through the motion sensing sensor of smart street lamps. In addition, the motion vector is used to analyze and predict the pedestrian path, and the GPU is used for high-speed computation. Pedestrians were detected using adaptive Gaussian mixing, weighted difference imaging, and motion vectors, and motions of pedestrians were analyzed using the extracted motion vectors. The preprocessing process using linear interpolation is performed to improve the performance of the proposed prediction system. Fuzzy prediction system and neural network prediction system are designed in parallel to improve efficiency and rough set is used for error correction.

  • In this paper, active noise control is performed in a duct system using the periodic pulse train which corresponds to the periodic component of noise source as a reference signal. Control algorithm applied in this study is possible to eliminate the acoustic feedback which occurs in the conventional filtered-x and filtered-u LMS algorithm by using electrical reference signal and has the fast adaptation speed with low filter orders by using synchronous sampling method is discussed via computer simulations and experiments of case studies such as frequency modulation, amplitude modulation and frequency differency between source signal and reference signal.

  • The robotic welding has been adapted positively in many welding shops forthe purpose of improving the welding efficiency and liberating operators from the severe working atmosphere. But for a large-size structure with thick plates like ship-building and every kind of plants manufacturing, the application of the arc welding robots is not established yet. The reason is assumed that the conventional arc welding robots are not adaptive for multi-pass welding of thick plates whose grooves are not so accurate. As one solution to this problem, a guidance system which uses the welding arc itself as a sensor is largely used. In this study the velocity controller which changes the tip to workpiece distance for regulating the weld proposed. The proportional and integral gain of velocity controller were determined by using the computer simulation of the control system, and the simulation results compared with the experimental ones. It was revealed that the developed control system using the arc sensor principle has a good capability of tracking the weld joint, although some more studies will be needed to refine the model of arc current.
