  • The thesis proposed the Text Extraction Algorithm which is a text extraction algorithm which uses the Coiflet Wavelet, YCbCr Color model and the close curve edge feature of adaptive LoG Operator in order to complement the demerit of the existing research which is weak in complexity of background, variety of light and disordered line and similarity of text and background color. This thesis is simulated with natural images which include naturally text area regardless of size, resolution and slant and so on of image. And the proposed algorithm is confirmed to an excellent by compared with an existing extraction algorithm in same image.

  • For fast capacitance computation, a simple mesh refinement technique on MLFMA(Multi-Level Fast Multipole Algorithm) is proposed The triangular meshes are refined mainly in the area which has heavy charge density. The technique is applied to the capacitance extraction of three dimensional conductors. The results show good convergence with comparable accuracy. An adaptive technique concerned with MLFMA is useful to reduce computation time and the number of elements without additional computational efforts in large three dimensional problems.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy rule extraction method using EM(Expectation-Maximization) algorithm and a design method of adaptive neuro-fuzzy control. EM algorithm is used to estimate a maximum likelihood of a GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model) and cluster centers. The estimated clusters is used to automatically construct the fuzzy rules and membership functions for ANFIS(Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System). Finally, we applied the proposed method to the water temperature control system and obtained better results with respect to the number of rules and SAE(Sum of Absolute Error) than previous techniques such as conventional fuzzy controller.

  • The conventional adaptive detectors can not maintain sufficient detection performance at the presence of non-stationary clutter with unknown characteristics. This is caused by the lack of a priori information about clutter parameters changing over radar coordinates. To solve this problem, it is necessary to use clutter classifiers which have functions, such as the selection of the applied algorithm and its parameters extraction according to clutter conditions. In this paper, we describe the implementation of a clutter environment classifier for adaptive processing. In the environment classifier implemented on Visual C++, the extraction of the parameters and selection of processing algorithm for the adaptive processing unit are possible, and the result of algorithms can be verified at each stage.

  • This paper describes to extend the MLFMA(Multi-Level Fast Multipole Algorithm) for three-dimensional capacitance computation in the case of conductors embedded in an arbitrary dielectric medium. The triangular meshes are used and refined in the area which has heavy charge density. This technique is applied to the capacitance extraction of three-dimensional structures with multiple dielectrics. The results show good convergence with the comparable accuracy, and this adaptive technique coupled with MLFMA is useful to reduce computing time and the number of elements with least additional computational efforts in large three dimensional problems.

  • The quasi-static component of the moving vehicle-induced dynamic response is promising in damage detection as it is sensitive to bridge damage but insensitive to environmental changes. However, accurate extraction of quasi-static component from the dynamic response is challenging especially when the vehicle velocity is high. This paper proposes an adaptive quasi-static component extraction method based on the modified variational mode decomposition (VMD) algorithm. Firstly the analytical solutions of the frequency components caused by road surface roughness, high-frequency dynamic components controlled by bridge natural frequency and quasi-static components in the vehicle-induced bridge response are derived. Then a modified VMD algorithm based on particle swarm algorithm (PSO) and mutual information entropy (MIE) criterion is proposed to adaptively extract the quasi-static components from the vehicle-induced bridge dynamic response. Numerical simulations and real bridge tests are conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed extraction method. The results indicate that the improved VMD algorithm could extract the quasi-static component of the vehicle-induced bridge dynamic response with high accuracy in the presence of the road surface roughness and measurement noise.

  • This paper proposes ACA (Adaptive Component Analysis) as a method for feature extraction and analysis of the content-based image retrieval system. For satisfactory retrieval, the features extracted from images should be appropriately applied according to the image domains and for this, retrieval measurement is proposed in this study. Retrieval measurement is a standard indicating how important the value of a relevant feature is to image retrieval. ACA is a middle stage for content-based image retrieval and it purposes to improve the retrieval speed and performance.

  • In this paper, I propose the wavelet image coding method using band adaptive quantization and the significant cluster extraction. The proposed method can reduce to unnecessary additional seed data which create on conventional MRWD coding, because it eliminate cluster which smaller than structuring element by using morphology. And it make fast coding possible, because it is reduced to computational complexity by using band adaptive quantization. Consequently, the proposed method reduces computational complexity with $20\%{\~}33.3\%$ according to bit rate in quantization process.

  • This paper describes a depth extraction algorithm in the stereo endoscopic images using adaptive window. First, The relation between the 3D coordinates in the world and the 2D coordinates in the image plane is estimated using camera calibration. Next, stereo matching is performed to find the conjugate pairs in the left and right images. To improve the precision of the matching result, adaptive window which can be varied on the shape as well as on the size according to the area characteristics is used. Finally, the result from the stereo matching and that of camera modeling are combined to extract the real depth information.
