In vitro evolution is a powerful technique for the engineering of yeast strains to study cellular mechanisms associated with evolutionary adaptation; strains with desirable traits for industrial processes can also be generated. There are two distinct approaches to generate evolved strains in vitro: the sequential transfer of cells in the stationary phase into fresh medium or the continuous growth of cells in a chemostat bioreactor via the constant supply of fresh medium. In culture, evolutionary forces drive diverse adaptive mechanisms within the cell to overcome environmental or intracellular stressors. Especially, this engineering strategy has expanded to the field of human cell lines; the understanding of such adaptive mechanisms provides promising targets for the treatment of human genetic diseases and cancer. Therefore, this technology has the potential to generate numerous industrial, medical, and academic applications.
Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the concept of transfer anxiety in parents of children transferred from pediatric intensive care units to general wards. Methods: The hybrid model by Schwarz-Barcott and Kim was used to analyze the characteristics of transfer anxiety in parents of children transferred from pediatric intensive care units to general wards. Results: Transfer anxiety was defined by the following attributes: 1) stress concerning the adaptation process, 2) concern about the child's condition worsening due to the parent's caregiving, and 3) involuntary changes in daily life due to the treatment. Transfer anxiety has the following antecedents: 1) uncertainty; 2) a lack of knowledge about the illness, medical devices, and caregiving; and 3) a lack of social support. It resulted in 1) caregiver burden, 2) a decrease in the capacity for coping with caregiving, 3) delays in the child's physical and psychological recovery, and 4) decreased quality of life. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop an assessment scale that considers the attributes of transfer anxiety in parents of children transferred from pediatric intensive care units to general wards. Furthermore, an effective nursing intervention should be developed to reduce transfer anxiety.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to discover the nature from the life experience of a person with unilateral acquired blindness and his/her family after losing the eyesight and adapting in the environment and to find the meaning of life and how to solve the problem in psychosocial aspect. Methods: This study uses one of the qualitative research methods which explains how families with the unilateral acquired blind perceive blindness after experiencing it and observes how they signify it. starts with interest in lifestyles of individuals and their families and tries to understand the subjective existences of participants in accessible ways and draw the experiences after becoming one-side blind. It cyclically uses deductive verification process through inductive method and establishing hypothesis using materials. Results: According to the results of this study, unilateral acquired blindness studies, due to shattered life, they did not know what to do. Also, discomfort from struggling in a big tunnel and even will to live were found. trying to go out to the world, seeing the new world, and trying to encourage myself, strong attachment to life was shown to by saying, appeared. Each includes sub-topics such as feeling abandoned after confirmed the blindness, feeling disappointed to doctors, family, and friends, trying to live with hope, struggling in a tunnel with thinking how to live, closing the mind from the world, seeing outside the world in the midst of struggling, trying to forget the past with the will of life, having hope to live with care of family, and trying to keep the rest vision. Conclusion: Firstly, in nursing aspect for their adaptation, programs for disable people and nursing intervention focused on their families should be developed. Secondly, since it can be economic and psychological burden for their families and acquaintances, it is necessary to support the blind so that they can find fitted rehabilitation programs and come back to society. Thirdly, active participation of health care providers may influence social interest the improvement of national welfare policy for the unilateral acquired blind.
Prolonged exercise is known to increase steady-state serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-cholesterol) and apolipoprotein AI(apo AI) concentrations. We investigated the effect of adaptation to endurance exercise on the association of the genetic polymorphism in the apo AI gene with these biochemical parameters. 108 male subjects were randomly selected from a group of elite athletes, and 65 male samples used as sedentary control group from Korean general population. The genetic polymorphism in the apo AI gene locus was detected by polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and DNA digestion with Msp I restriction endonuclease. The genotype frequency for the Msp I RFLP was significantly different between the elite athletes and sedentary controls(P<0.05). There were, however, no significant associations between the Msp I RFLP of the apo AI gene and the biochemical parameters in elite athletic group. Therefore, our findings indicate that the Msp I RFLP of the apo AI gene was not associated with the serum apo AI and HDL-cholesterol concentrations in Korean male elite athletes.
Purpose: This study was to understand foreign workers' experiences exposed hazard chemical materials in korean industry. Method: The research subjects were 92 foreign workers worked in seoul, namyangju, ansan, suwon, pocheon, incheon, jincheon, and daejeon. It was that grounded theory method as qualitative approach was applied with in-depth interview, recording and dictation, and collected data was analysed line-by-line by research teams. The analysis process of in depth interview data was three phase. Results: The first phase was that find out meaningful data and confronted data for meaningful data was 53 meaningful items. The second phase was coding process of meaningful data, total coding items were 9, difficulty of new environment, existence of health hazard factors originated in work, performance of basic health management, management of hazard materials in work-site, self care of hazard materials in work-site, discrimination of disaster-compensation originated in work, perception of work stress, motivation of leaving position, satisfaction for present life. The third phase was 5 adaptation process, copying phase for new environment, management phase for health hazard factors, health change phase, life change phase, illegal stay phase. Conclusion: In summary, as a results it was concluded that foreign workers was experienced new environment and then has various problems in working site. But these evidences were not different from korean workers basically, undoubtedly reality of a korean small and medium enterprise. And foreign workers with long time stay have had many health problems probably, but they have want to long stay and so reach an unexpected result, illegal long stay. Therefore, we should make efforts for adequate foreign workers' health management at work-site and overall life in governmental and industrial nursing level.
GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone) is a supreme hormone regulating reproductive activity in most animals. The sequences of amino acid and nucleic acid of GnRH reported up to now are examined from the evolutionary framework of Chordata. All identified GnRH are classified into GnRH1, GnRH2, or GnRH3. In all three forms of GnRH both N-terminal and C-terminal are conserved, which allows for effective binding to their receptors. The three amino acids in the middle of GnRH1 sequence have altered diversely from the primitive Chordata, which is indicative of the adaptation process to the ambient environment. GnRH2 and GnRH3 sequences are well conserved. There are more diverse modifications in the nucleic acids than in amino acid sequence of GnRH1. These variations can result from meiosis, mutation, or epigenetics and indicate that GnRH is the product of natural selection.
This study proposes a means of guiding undergraduate research assistants programs in a more positive direction. This will be achieved by researching the reality of the programs operated in engineering departments for graduate school students and by analyzing the problems thereof. To achieve this objective, a literature study and research were conducted, which comprised of a survey on 204 graduate school students within the metropolitan area of Korea. The results of the study demonstrated that experience as an undergraduate research assistant has a positive influence on the adaptation to and life in graduate school. However, the role of the student and the level of salary varied depending on the role of the student, based on the capacity and support of individual professors. Thus, it is deemed that there will be a need for systematic program improvement and the development of a program that can provide significant academic activities, rather than simple experimental assistance.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a scale to evaluate posttraumatic growth in patients with cancer and to examine the validity and reliability of the scale. Methods: A literature review, semi-structured patient interviews and an expert panel consultation produced a 27 preliminary item questionnaire. Participants were 150 cancer patients recruited to test the reliability and validity of the preliminary scale. Data were analyzed using item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, convergent validity and internal consistency. Results: Item reduction and exploratory factor analysis led to 23 items, grouped into five subscales which were labelled new possibilities (6 items), coping skills (5 items), preciousness of life (5 items), relating to others (4 items), and personal strength (3 items). Convergent validity was evaluated by total correlation with the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (r=.45, p<.001). The final scale demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency (Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ =.94). Conclusion: Findings from this study indicate that the Cancer-Specific Posttraumatic Growth Inventory has validity and reliability and is considered to be appropriate for assessing posttraumatic growth in patients with cancer.
Objectives : It was to translate three neck and spinal pain disability questionnaires - the Neck Disability Index (NDI), the Neck Pain and Disability Scale (NPDS), and the Functional Rating Index (FRI) - into Korean language, and evaluate the psychometric properties of Korean versions of questionnaires to achieve a good cross-cultural adaptation. Methods : Forty (23 males, 17 females) subjects aged from 15 to 64 years old, participated to examine test-retest reliability. One hundred and eighty (76 males, 104 females) subjects with a primary diagnosis of non-specific neck pain and 81 healthy volunteers were undertaken to examine internal consistemcy, discriminative validity and longitudinal construct validity. Versions of each questionnaire in idiomatic modern Korean were developed using a procedure proposed by Beaton et al. (2000). To assess reliability, the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC $_{(2,1)}$) was calculated. Internal consistency was evaluated by Cronbach's alpha. Discriminative validity was examined with independent-group t-tests. Responsiveness was tested by calculating the effect size and standardized response mean for each questionnaire and using Pearson' s r and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. Results : Test-retest reliability ofthe translated versions of the three disability questionnaires was excellent (ICC $_{(2,1)$ = 0.86-0.90). High internal consistency was found in the three disability questionnaires (Cronbach's alpha ranged from ${\alpha}=0.88$ for the FRI to ${\alpha}=0.96$ for the NPDS and 0.82 for the Short Form McGill Pain Questionnaire(SFMPQ)). the VAS subscale of the SFMPQ was found to be the most responsive of the subscales (ES=1.44, SRM=1.37). The VAS was also the most responsive pain and disability index in internal responsiveness analysis, although disability indices showed marginally better responsiveness when compared with external standards. No floor or ceiling effects were observed. Conclusions : It is concluded that the questionnaires were successfully translated and exhibit acceptable measurement properties, and may suggest that they are suitable for use in clinical and research application.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a care promotion program based on nursing students' self-understanding. Methods: A quasi-experimental approach using a randomized clinical trial pre- and posttest design was used. Participants were assigned to an experiment group (n=29) or control group (n=30). Data were collected from June 23 to September 8, 2017. The experiment group participated in a care promotion program based on self-understanding for 24 hours through eight sessions covering eight different topics. The data were analyzed using t-test and repeated-measures ANOVA using SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: Compared to the control group, the experiment group reported significant positive changes for college life adjustment (F=28.74, p<.001), emotional intelligence (F=15.66, p<.001), and interpersonal caring behavior (F=9.37, p=.003). Conclusion: Findings from this study indicate that care promotion based on a self-understanding improvement program with the application of group enneagram education is a useful intervention strategy to promote the care promotion program based on nursing students' self-understanding. Care promotion based on self-understanding will be utilized as an intervention program to form positive values of care and interpersonal relationship through care awareness, self-change, understanding of others and care experience in the group.
