Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the role experience of preceptor nurses in general hospitals. Methods: Data were collected from 10 experienced preceptor nurses through in-depth interviews about their experiences. The main question was "How do you describe your experience as a preceptor in the process of role adaptation?" Qualitative data from field and transcribed notes were analyzed using Strauss & Corbin's grounded theory methodology. Results: The core category of experience in the process of role adaptation as a preceptor nurse was identified as 'being responsible to teach from beginning to end'. The participants identified five interactional strategies; 'abruptly having to take the role as a preceptor unwilling', 'difficulties in field training with variable situations', 'preceptor and new nurse with love and hate relationships', 'bring up preceptee as a child', 'redefining the concept of preceptor'. Conclusion: The results of this study provide useful information for understanding the role of preceptor nurses in general hospital who have to teach new nurses with patience and responsibility. It will be needed to establishment of preceptor's role and educational standards, and policy for their rewards by nurse manager. Additionally, making cooperative educational climate in nursing ward is important for teaching new nurse.
Objectives: Many female college students today control their lifestyle not for the purpose to promote their health but to maintain slender figures. The purpose of this study was to explore and describe the lifestyle of female college students from their own perspectives. Methods: Data was collected through interviews of 25 female students and was analyzed by using Colaizzi's descriptive phenomenology(1978). The phenomenon of interest was described, followed by collecting participants' descriptions of the phenomenon and extracting concepts from significant statements. These concepts were then organized into thematic clusters, followed by exhaustive descriptions into which data was applied to extract the final categories. Results: The results were deduced into 226 re-statements, 38 constructed meanings, 23 themes, 11 theme clusters, and 5 categories. The five categories include 'Increased interest in physical health,' 'Selective dietary patterns influenced by lifestyle,' 'Lifestyle formed by social adaptation,' 'Health complications caused by self-body images,' 'Engages in healthy dietary behavior'. Conclusion: This study described the experiences of female college students' lifestyles after completing a course in health promotion. These findings have important implications on health education for college students which should be considered in developing health education programs in preparation for adult years of life.
Concept analysis is a formal linguistic exercise to determine certain defining attributes. The basic purpose of concept analysis is to clarify ambiguous concepts in a theory, and to propose a precise operational definition which reflects its theoretical base (Walker, 1983, 27~28). In later life, elderly people are faced with various psychological problems such as depression, and lowered self-esteem for these psychological problems of the elderly. Reminiscence has been studied as an effective therapeutic measure by gerontologists and psychologists. It is considered to have potential as an effective nursing intervention with geriatric clients. The purpose of this paper was to explore the feasibility of adopting reminiscence as a nursing intervention through analysis of the concept. The concept can be defined as follows : Reminiscence is thinking and talking about one's past with or without a specific purpose. It is a composite mental process which involves psychological, emotional, and social interactional aspects. The defining attributes of reminiscence are : 1. Thinking about past experiences which are meaningful to oneself. 2. It includes the emotional aspect of past experiences. 3. It occurs with or without specific purposes. 4. It is communicated to others by means of language and the subject has the feeling of being heard. In regard to the consequences of reminiscence, it is expected to contribute to psychological adaptation by providing a sense of self-fulfillment and self-achievement, promoting the discovery of the meaning of life, decreasing depression, and overcoming guilt feelings and conflict about one's past. However, if the past is regarded as a total failure, it may be harmful to the psychological well-being of the subject.

This study was to explore the living experiences of the disabled adults who were participating in public education Yahak program held at evening class. The study designed in-depth interviews with ten disabled people using a grounded theory approach. Through analyzing process, 34 concepts, 15 subcategories, and eight categories were deduced. In axial coding, casual condition, 'Suffering from unknown cause disabilities' and 'Isolated by social cause', context condition, 'Taking discriminative treat for disabilities' impacted on phenomenon, 'Overcoming their conditions by themselves'. Intervening conditions was 'Taking social supports' and action-interaction condition, 'Enjoying public programs' totally lead to consequence in 'Controlling daily life' and 'Exploring their own social roles'. The periods of process were divided three stages, reflecting disabled situation, formation phase of social relation, and self-developing phase. The core category, 'Trying to be recognized as a member of society' incorporated the relationship between and among all categories and explained the process. The study indicates that social education program for the disabled helped to develop themselves as a member of society. Therefore, we suggest there may be a need for training for professionals who work with disabled people to develop social adaptation.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate correlation of childhood trauma experience and parent-adolescents' assessment reports on problem behavior through comparison of delinquent and general adolescents. Methods : First, delinquent adolescents and general adolescents were asked to complete the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ). Then, 71 pairs of delinquent adolescents and their parents and 133 pairs of general adolescents and their parents were asked to complete the Korean Youth Self-Report (K-YSR) and the Korean Child Behavior Checklist (K-CBCL). Finally, responses from 410 people were used for the analysis. Results : First, childhood trauma experience score was significantly higher for delinquent adolescents, compared to general adolescents. Second, t-test showed a greater difference between K-YRS and K-CBCL for general adolescents than for delinquent adolescents. Third, in the case of delinquent adolescents, the correlation analysis of K-YSR filled out by adolescents and K-CBCL filled out by parents showed significant correlation in certain areas, including social immaturity, delinquent behaviors, internalization issues, and externalization issues. On the other hand, the correlation analysis of K-YSR and K-CBCL of general adolescents showed significant correlation in all sub-categories. Fourth, the correlation analysis of delinquent adolescents' CTQ and K-YSR showed minimal yet significant correlation in social adaptation, withdrawing, depression/anxiety, and delinquent/aggressive behaviors, however, no correlation was observed between CTQ and K-CBCL. The correlation analysis of general adolescents' CTQ and K-YSR, and CTQ and K-CBCL showed significant correlation in all sub-categories, although the degree of correlation varied. Conclusion : Delinquent adolescents had more childhood traumatic experiences. However, general adolescents' childhood traumatic experiences showed minimal yet significant correlation with various adaptation indicators and their parents responded in a similar way, indicating that general adolescents with childhood traumatic experiences need close care and attention even if they have not shown prominent delinquent behaviors.
Background: This study was designed to investigate the effects of usual negative emotional experiences on biological aging progression of human. Methods: A total of 237 subjects who visited the Health Promotion Center at Chungnam National University Hospital from May 2013 through September 2013 was enrolled. Each subject had been drawn up a structured questionnaire about usual experiences of depression, anxiety, anger, and anger expression. The degree of biological aging progression of each subject was computed by a specific formula which consisted of chronological age and biological age reflecting obesity and aging of main organs. Results: Trait anger and low education level showed the significant correlations with biological aging (r=0.160, P=0.014, and r=-0.189, P=0.024, respectively). Trait anger and low education level solely displayed the significant $R^2s$ for biological aging in consequence of multivariate analyses; $R^2=0.044$, P=0.020, and $R^2=0.022$, P=0.038, respectively. Conclusions: This study suggests that the significant relationship between usual anger experience (i.e., trait anger) and biological aging would be present. In addition, lower education level may be related with biological aging.
The purpose of this study is to examine how the long-term care effects the elderly that adapt themselves to the caring facility, what their experiences are and what kinds of behavioral characteristics they present. We have analyzed the research conducted on 15 elderly individuals who are living in an elderly long-term care facility, by using the grounded theory approach of Strauss and Corbin (1998). As a result, 170 concepts, 42 sub-categories, and 15 categories were set by the open coding process. During the adaptation process in a long-term care facility, the primary experience or feeling by the elderly is that they had been 'deserted'. However, when consolidating the casual conditions, contextual conditions, intervening conditions, the action/interaction strategy, and consequence, the primary experience was that the elderly came to an 'acceptance'. Such acceptance was then sub-categorized into a destiny-resignation type, reality-acceptance type, and voluntary-selection type. Based on the results of this study, we recommend practical alternatives which will improve surrounding circumstances including caring facilities, its employees, relationships with other elderly individuals, and family support.
The relationship between perceived social support and adaptation to maternal role for first-time mothers was investigated in this descriptive correlational study. A nonprobable sample of 90 first-time mothers were selected, who had uncomplicated perinatal experiences and delivered healthy and term newborns as well. The data was collected during a home interview at 4-6weeks postpartum. The outcome of adaptations was defined as the level of sensitivity in parent-infant interactions and of the self confidence in infant care. The perception of social support in the primiparous was assessed by the NSSQ during the postpartum. The results obtained from this study are summarized as follows : 1. The mean score of the perceived total functional support was $116.6{\pm}37.5$ points (affective : 38.1 affirmative : 39.3, aid : 39.3), and the score of the total network support was $45.2{\pm}13.9$ points (size : 4.9, duration :19.8 frequency : 20.4). These scores tended to be slightly low. 2. The mean score of the self confidence on the infant care activity as the subjective aspect of the maternal role adaptation (MRA) was 56.5 points (86.9%), whereas that of the sensitivity of the mother-infant interaction of the MRA was 78.9 points (63.2%). 3. The subjective aspect of the MRA has showed a positive relation ship with the aid dimension of the functional support. And the objective aspect of the MRA also showed a positive relationship with the total functional support and the total network support. However the correlating degrees were slightly low. In conclusion, the primiparous mothers perceived that they had received a small amount of social support during the postpartum period, suggesting the need of various kinds of social support to promote the MRA for the primiparous.
