Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the current acupuncture treatment of autism. Methods : 13 Chinese clinical studies published in the last five years were selected for analyzing. Results : Treatment methods were used; massage of acupoints, electro acupuncture, scalp acupuncture, the general acupuncture and special acupuncture treatments for autism as Jin's three needling, Intelligence-increasing acupuncture. Commonly used acupoints were sishencong(四神總), shenting(神庭), benshen(本神), yintang(印堂), naohu(腦戶), naokong(腦空), bohui(百會), neiguan(內關), yanyu1qu(言語1區), yanyu2qu(言語2區), yanyu3qu(言語3區). 10 studies were showed the effects of acupuncture with total improvement rate and 7 of them were higher than 80%. Also, most of the studies showed the acupuncture treatment was extremely effective in improving autism children's speaking ability. Conclusions : Acupuncture have been shown as an effective treatment on autism. Further studies about various treatment using by acupuncture and the evaluation standard would be needed.

This study aimed to provide the basis of treatment effects by analyzing randomized control trials (RCTs) on the use of thread embedding acupuncture (TEA) for low back pain that were published between February 2018 and July 2023. In total, 2,865 articles were retrieved from international and Korean databases. Nine of these articles were selected and evaluated based on the following categories: (1) year of publication, (2) type of disease, (3) sample size, (4) treatment interventions, (5) treatment frequency and duration, (6) insertion point and depth of thread embedding, (7) types and sizes of threads and needles, (8) evaluation indexes, (9) treatment outcomes, and (10) side effects. The risk of bias in RCTs was also assessed. This study also emphasizes the importance of further research on TEA for clinical treatment and the use of objective approaches. Furthermore, detailed method descriptions and results are important in determining the efficacy of TEA.

Objectives : 'Obtaining qi(deqi)' is a sensation experienced by a patient or an acupuncturist during acupuncture treatment, and it is considered to be an important factor in acupuncture treatment. However, previous studies reported conflicting results about the relationship between 'obtaining qi(deqi)' sensation and the effect of acupuncture treatment. Also, most of the previous studies investigating 'obtaining qi(deqi)' and the acupuncture effect, dealt with the analgesic effect of acupuncture. The objective of this study was to analyze the relation between the 'obtaining qi(deqi)' and the anti-itching effect of acupuncture treatment. Methods : Twenty one healthy subjects participated in this study. At the first visit, itch was induced to all subjects using intradermal injection of histamine on the lower arm. At the second visit, acupuncture treatment was applied using LI11 and 'obtaining qi(deqi)' was assessed. After acupuncture treatment, itch was induced again, and itch VAS and skin flare were assessed. Results: At the 6,8,10 minutes after histamine injection, the change of itch VAS between before and after acupuncture treatment was significant. Among 'obtaining qi(deqi)', subjects reported that 'dull ache', 'pricking', 'heavy' were most strong. Total score of 'obtaining qi(deqi)' sensation was not related to the change of itch VAS or skin flare. The 'electric shock' sensation is related to the change of itch VAS, and 'bruised' and 'heavy' sensations were related to the change of skin flare. Conclusions : Total 'obtaining qi(deqi)' is not related to the anti-itching effect of acupuncture, but several sensations showed relationship with the effect of acupuncture on itch severity and skin flare. Further researches based on various symptoms or acupuncture points, are needed.

Objectives: Round Acupuncture having blunt end has developed from acupotomy. This case report is to find out that Round Acupuncture is effective in treating patients with recurrent carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), which has not improved by steroid injection or acupotomy. Methods: Round Acupuncture was inserted into the distal fibers of transverse carpal ligament and released toward the proximal fibers. Treatment was performed three times in total. T ingling, numbn ess, night pain and swelling sensation were assessed, and provocative maneuvers were also used. Results: After treat ment, all symptoms completely disappeared and the patient had no recurrence until 3 months after treatment. Conclusion: Round Acupuncture co uld be an effective treatment for recurrent CTS.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of Jungja and Jungseon-Hyeol on the patients of neck pain. Methods : A retrospective study has been carried out for 30 cases of neck pain patients who visited Dongseo Oriental Medical Hospital from August 1, 2001 to september 30, 2001. We have treated them with acupuncture treatment of Jungja and Jungseon-Hyeol. Results : We have found out the excellent effects of Jungja and Jungseon-Hyeol on the patients of neck pain. Conclusion : The acupuncture treatment of Jungja and Jungseon-Hyeol is useful on the patients of neck pain.

Objective : Recently, Seguele of Traffic Accident patients are increasing, especially cervical injury bring only severe sequela but also mortal damage to the patient. In treatment of the disease, the east medical treatment is another effective method. Methods : The patient resisted the west theraphy improved greatly in movement and sensation by acupuncture, moxibustion, herb medication and Physical treatment. In MRI, The treatment result is proved. Acupuncture on Stomach Meridian(足陽明胃經) referring to Naijing(內經) is thought effective. Results : Tetraplegia by Traffic Accident is considered as Wei Symptom in term of the east medicine, By means of radial and physical study of the patient treated by the east medicine, we are conviced that the east medicine is the excellent method Conclusions : Referring to the past documentary data, The only Treatment on this disease is Surgical operation, but the operation isn't the successful one because seg. of spinal cord injury is mortal. The east treatment, acupuncture, moxibustion herb medication and physical treatment isn't only effective but also satisfactory. In the future, The study on this disease by the east medicine should be made thoroughly.

Objectives : Because of the recent well-being syndrome, concerns about smoking cessation, as well as dietary improvement and exercise, are being increased. There are various methods for smoking cessation. Among them, recently acupuncture treatment is verified through diverse attempts. This research was conducted to examine the effects of acupuncture treatment especially on juvenile smoking cessation. Methods : From April 04 to Oct 04, this study had investigated 93 middle and high school students. 5 times of acupuncture treatment were given to each participant, and the survey was executed before and after each treatment. The acupuncture was treated to the ear alternately twice a week. The evaluation was taken before the treatment after the 1st treatment, and the 5th treatment with 6 questions of amount of daily smoking, desire to smoke, taste of smoking, subjective symptoms, smoking cessation proportion, Fagerstorm Tolerance Questionaire point. Results : Regarding amount of daily smoking, the significant tendency between before and after the treatment varied, but between the 1st and the 5th treatment, there was no difference. The 1st treatment had caused desire to smoke reduction in 46 students(49.5%), but the 5th treatment didn't have much effects on desire to smoke(43 persons; 46.2%). After treatment, 37.6% had no effect in taste of smoking, while the rest of them showed various reactions. Also, there were no difference of significant tendency between the 1st and 5th treatments. In respect to the amount of smoking, 70% of them achieved smoking cessation, or reduction in smoking, but about 25% of them showed no changes. Various subjective symptoms such as lethargy, decrease of appetite, headache were shown, and especially desire to smoke was shown pervasively. Regarding Fagerstorm Tolerance Questionaire point, the average of significant tendency in point after the treatment had decreased(3.1+-2.4 to 2.1+-2.1, p<0.0001). but for those students who had tried smoking cessation less than 5 times, Fagerstorm Tolerance Questionaire point had decreased significantly, but for the others who had tried smoking cessation more than 5times, there were no difference. Conclusion : In regard to 6 questions of amount of daily smoking, desire to smoke, taste of smoking, subjective symptoms, smoking cessation proportion, Fagerstorm Tolerance Questionaire point, various conclusion is drawn. These results suggest that acupuncture treatment on juvenile may have the tendency of smoking cessation.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the current state of clinical trials for acupuncture treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD) using neuroimaging methods. Methods: We searched for clinical trial studies of acupuncture treatment for Parkinson's disease that used neuroimaging methods in the MEDLINE (PubMed) database. The identified studies were then selected manually based on inclusion criteria. We subsequently analyzed the characteristics of the selected articles and reviewed the neural substrates of acupuncture treatment in PD. Results: Eight studies were included. The most frequently applied modality for PD was functional MRI. The most frequently selected acupoint for PD was GV34. Several studies showed that acupuncture treatment could improve the symptoms of PD. Through the analysis, we demonstrated that the neuroimaging method could capture the neural substrates associated with PD and that acupuncture treatment may affect the activation of brain areas that are impaired in PD in a different way than sham acupuncture. Conclusions: Applying a neuroimaging method could be helpful in clinical trials of acupuncture treatment for PD, and more efforts should be made in this area.

Objective : We want to have a correct understanding and the distance about the Oriental Medical therapy on the CP(cerebral palsy) children. Methods : We made up a question of parents of CP children and analyzed it. Conclusion : 19 patients were taken physical treatment and 12 patients were taken occupational treatment in company with physical treatment(In our OPD CP patient) Parents complained about poor surroundings of our hospital for children and deficiency of physical treatment. The most satisfactory thing is acupuncture treatment, then the next thing is aroma therapy. On the satisfaction degree about the Oriental Medical therapy, very good is 27.3%, good 45.5%, ordinary 27.3% and unsatisfaction is none. The place Oriental medical therapy before our hospital was taken is local Oriental medical clinic, 9 cases out of 22.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to explore the current research trend on acupuncture treatment for nerve regeneration and recovery effect. Methods : We investigated the researches so far, on acupuncture treatment for the nerve regeneration and recovery via searching Pubmed from 2005 up to October 2014. Data were extracted from the included studies regarding the authors, countries, type of nerve injury, type of acupuncture, treatment period, acupuncture points, assessment tool and results. Results and Conclusions : Twenty-four research papers were included in the review. Outcomes were measured by immunohistochemical results, motor behavior scores, and electrocphysiological results. All but one study favored acupuncture and electroacupuncture treatment for nerve regeneration and recovery regardless of type of nerve injury and acupuncture modality. Acupuncture treatment may have a potential for nerve regeneration and recovery and further research is required.
