  • Water repellent surfaces may enhance the condensation by efficiently removing the condensed droplets. However, such surfaces may lose their original performance as they are exposed to external mechanical stresses. In this work, we fabricated spray-coated mechanically robust superhydrophobic surfaces using treated titanium dioxide (Type 1) or silica particles (Type 2). Then we compared the mechanical robustness of such surfaces with the silane-coated superhydrophobic surface and PEEK coated surface using a controlled-sand blasting method. The results show that the spray-coated samples can maintain the same level of the contact angle hysteresis than silane-coated superhydorphobic surface after sand blasting at 2 bar. The spray-coating method was applied to the tube type condenser and the condensation behaviors were observed within the environmental chamber with controlled pressure, humidity and non-condensable gas. Previously-reported droplet jumping was observed in the early stage of the condensation event, but soon the droplet jumping stopped and only dropwise condensation was observed since the condensed droplets were pinned on the cracks at spray-coated surfaces. The static contact angle decreases from $158.0^{\circ}$ to $133.2^{\circ}$, and hysteresis increases from $3.0^{\circ}$ to $23.5^{\circ}$ when active condensation occurs on such surfaces. This work suggests the benefits and limitation of spray-coated superhydrophobic condensers and help develop advanced condensers for practical use.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of craniocervical flexion exercise on deep cervical flexor thickness and gait in children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy. Methods : Twelve children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy were recruited for this study. All subjects performed active craniocervical flexion exercise 3times a week over the course of 6weeks. using a pressure bio feedback unit. Ultrasonography was used to assess deep cervical flexor thickness, and a 10m walking test was used to assess gait function. For the statistical analysis, a paired t-test was used to compare the differences pre- and post-value. SPSS Statistics version 20.0 was used for statistical analysis, and statistical significance was defined as a p-value less than 0.05. Result : The results of this study indicate that children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy experienced statistically significant positive changes in both deep cervical flexor thickness (p<.05). and gait(p<.05) following the intervention. Conclusion : In conclusion, craniocervical flexion exercise can positively affect deep cervical flexor thickness in children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy, which in turn positively affects gait.

  • One of the most important subjects to develop a LPDi engine is to suppress the bubble generated inside the liquid LPG direct injector. For the purpose of this, the analogy visualization injector to visualize the generation and behaviors of bubble is manufactured, and the bubbling phenomenon and behaviors of bubble are visualized and investigated according to the change of the temperature around an injector wall, fuel pressure and a needle configuration. As results, it was found that the bubble inside the injector is generated around an injector hole and after rising by buoyancy it disappears around the top of a nozzle. The number of bubbles generated is little changed regardless of the lapse of time but it remarkably increases as the temperature around the injector increases. Also, it was known that as the sac volume in LPDi injector decreases the generation of bubble is more active and the rising velocity of bubble generated is increased.

  • Light-off catalyst has been used for minimization of cold-start emissions. Improved cold-start performance of light-off catalyst needs the optimal design in terms of flow distribution, geometric surface area, precious metal loading, cell density and space velocity. In this study, these influential factors are numerically investigated using integrated numerical technique by considering not only 3-D fluid flow but also heat and mass transfer with chemical reactions. The present results indicate that uneven catalyst loading of depositing high active catalyst at upstream of monolith is beneficial during warm-up period but its effect is severely deteriorated when the space velocity is above 100,000 $hr^{-1}$ To maximize light-off performance, this study suggests that 1) a light-off catalyst be designed double substrate type; 2) the substrate with high GSA and high PM loading at face be placed at the front monolith; and 3) the cell density of the rear monolith be lower to reduce the pressure drop.

  • Because of casehardenign effect of amorphous paclitaxel, residual solvents, methylene chloride and emthanol could not be reduced to the maximum value allowed, 600 ppm and 3,000 ppm, in accord with the guidelines issued by the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH, 1997), using rotary evaporation and successive drying in a vacuum oven. However, methylene chloride and methanol were reduced to 486 ppm and 403 ppm, respectively using supercritical $CO_2$ on purified paclitaxel. The optimum pressure and operating time were 80 bar and 30 min at fixed operating temperature ($40^{circ}C$). This approach serves as a novel application of supercritical fluid extraction to remove residual solvents from active pharmaceutical ingredients.

  • We have developed a radio frequency excited slab waveguide $CO_2$ laser. The dimension of active volume is 2${\times}$40${\times}$400 mm. One concave and one convex mirror are used to make the unstable resonator of the positive branch. The radio frequency is 123 MHz and RF input power is varied from 100 to 900 W. The laser gas is set to a pressure of 10∼60 torr and the mixing ratio is $CO_2$:$N_2$:He=1:1:3. The laser output power of 70.7 W was obtained which corresponds to laser power to RF power conversion efficiency of 9.2%.

  • The slotted type of hollow copper cathode was constructed and tested for its geometric stability and usability for laser operation at 780nm. The peak output power of copper ion laser emission was measured for different operating conditions. The IR-laser power was dependent on the parameters of the geometry of the hollow cathodes, discharge current and gas fillings. The peak power decreased with increasing neon pressure over 60%. One reason for this decrease in output power may be conjectured as hier due to the decreasing population of the upper laser level. The copper ion laser transition at 780 nm populated at the 5p level. The hollow cathode copper ion laser is operated in He and Ne mixture by electric discharge excitation and could be operated for more than 100 hours with only a 35% drop in the output power(2.8mW cw for 9.6cm active length).

  • We investigated the effects of SiH$_4$ gas on the surface of Hf-silicate films during the deposition of polycrystalline (poly) Si films and the thermal stability of sputtered Hf-silicate films in poly Si/Hf-silicate structure by using High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HR-TEM) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Hf-silicate films were deposited by using DC-mag-netron sputtering with Hf target and Si target and poly Si films were deposited at 600$^{\circ}C$ by using Low Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition (LPCVD) with SiH$_4$ gas. After poly Si film deposition at 600$^{\circ}C$, Hf silicide layer was observed between poly Si and Hf-silicate films due to the reaction between active SiH$_4$ gas and Hf-silicate films. After annealing at 900$^{\circ}C$, Hf silicide, formed during the deposition of poly Si, changed to Hf-silicate and the phase separation of the silicate was not observed. In addition, the Hf-silicate films remain amorphous phase.

  • Characteristics of $ZrO_2$ felt supported Cu/Zn catalysts have been investigated for the production of hydrogen via methanol steam reforming. Cu and Zn in different weight percent were loaded using wet impregnation over $ZrO_2$ felt support. The catalysts were characterized with BET and FE-SEM. The performance of these synthesized catalysts were investigated at SCR=1.5, $GHSV=2000h^{-1}$, temperature=$300{\sim}400^{\circ}C$, and pressure=2.5~19.5 barA. The results showed that the $Cu^{32.5}Zn^{7.5}ZrO_2$ catalyst was most active in terms of methanol conversion and hydrogen production. The methanol conversion in steam reforming of methanol was 84.6% at 19.5 barA and furnace $400^{\circ}C$ over $Cu^{32.5}Zn^{7.5}ZrO_2$ catalyst. The catalysts prepared using $ZrO_2$ felt show higher reactor temperature than the pellet type catalyst at same furnace temperature.

  • Gerotor is a planar mechanism consisting of a rotor and lobes which form a closed space, namely a chamber. As active contact points between a rotor and lobes are subjected to very high contact stresses, wear in one or both of the rotor and lobe cannot be avoided. Therefore, in the design of Gerotor used in hydraulic motors a compromise between high torque output and contact stress is of great importance and a thorough analysis of design parameters should be conducted to achieve this compromise. In this study, a contact point is modelled as a linear spring in consideration of equivalent curvature to analyze the contact stress. As the contact stress calculation in this problem is a statically indeterminate type, a numerical iterative scheme has been adopted to obtain the solution. To fully understand the influence of design parameters on the contact stress, the relationship between pressure force, equivalent curvature, contact force and contact stress are analyzed. It is shown that the equivalent curvature of the contact point is a dominant factor that affects the maximum contact stress.
