  • In this paper, aperture coupled stacked microstrip array antennas are proposed and their operating characteristics are analyzed based on analytical. In order to evaluate mutual coupling between slot-coupled microstrip patches in finite array, analysis uses the reciprocity theorem and the spectral domain Green's functions for dielectric slab in a moment method solution for the unknown patches and solts current distrbution. By introducing an N-port equivalent network, the impedance matrix of an affay of N-element slot-coupled patches is evaluated directly from its network current matix of order N$^{2}$, and it can be programmed to be run on a PC. Numerical results show mutual coupling, radiation pattern, active reflection coefficient versus scan angle, radiation efficiency and active element gain pattern.

  • In this paper, the single-fed microstrip parasitic array antenna for low-cost three-dimensional beam steering in 5.8GHz ISM(5.725GHz~5.825GHz) band is designed and implemented. The antenna is comprised of one feed active element and four passive elements with variable reactance loads. The beam steering range of implemented antenna is achieved three-dimensional beam steering of ${\pm}28^{\circ}$ at azimuth angle ${\Phi}=0^{\circ}$, ${\Phi}=45^{\circ}$, ${\Phi}=90^{\circ}$, and ${\Phi}=135^{\circ}$ by adjusting variable reactance loads. The maximum gain of the antenna in the beam steering range have within 7.23dBi~9.36dBi and the bandwidth of return loss lower than -10dB covers 5.8GHz ISM band regardless of the beam steering angles.

  • In the mobile antenna systems for satellite multimedia communications, the active way antenna having a low sidelobe antenna pattern is described in this paper. This designed and fabricated array antenna is satisfied with international beam pattern regulation on moving states. The subarray of the proposed mobile antenna system is arranged with a stair-planar structure and non-periodic array spacing. This subarray is designed with three-layered microstrip patch as both receiving and transmitting radiator of which are improved with antenna gain and bandwidth. Also, the optimum subarray spacing is designed to make the lowest sidelobe pattern by genetic algorithm. In addition, the characteristics of a GA-perturbed array are investigated from simulated and measured beam pattern results.

  • In this paper, a compact doppler sensor with oscillator type active antenna operating at 2.4GHz frequency band is proposed to measure the distance or speed of a moving object. The active antenna has been realized by oscillator using radiator, patch antenna, as its resonator. The oscillation frequency is shifted depending on approaching of the object, and a detection circuit discriminates the frequency deviation. The oscillator type active antenna has been designed and simulated. The prototype fabricated has a very small circular disk type of diameter 30mm and height 4.2mm. As for antenna performance, broadside radiation pattern with beamwidth of $130^{\circ}$ and oscillation frequency of 2.373GHz has been measured. Test results as a doppler sensor shows that doppler signal voltage of about 190mV has been obtained for conducting plate moving 1 meter away from the sensor. And, doppler signal voltage has been linearly increased to the ground from 4.5m height by free-falling the sensor.

  • In this paper, a synthesis technique for nonuniform filtering structures to be employed in active integrated antenna layouts is presented. The idea is to suppress the higher harmonic contribution due to the presence of nonlinear components through a nonuniform transmission line properly designed via Orlov's synthesis formula. The theory presented is applied here to synthesize an amplifier-based active antenna layout for wireless local area network (WLAN) purposes working at 2.4 GHz. The numerical results presented show the capabilities of the proposed approach.

  • In this paper, GPS / GLONASS receiving a small active antenna is proposed. A microstrip patch antenna which supports dual-band (GPS and GLONASS) was optimized. The antenna size is $13{\times}13{\times}3.6mm$. The jig was changed to confirm the proposed antenna characteristic size, was adjusted to feed gap of the patch antenna, it was confirmed by change in LNA shield case or not. The antenna jig size is $65.6{\times}13{\times}0.8mm$. The maximum gain of the GPS band is 3.78dBi, the maximum gain of the GLONASS bands is 4dBi. To amplify the Satellite reception signal level, one-stage low noise amplifier(LNA) was designed. The LNA chip was using the BGA715 N7, the LNA gain is 19.9dB. The utilization possibility of the GPS / GLONASS receiving a small active antenna could be confirmed according to compare and analyze the simulation and measurement data.

  • TX/RX dual microstrip 1$\times$8 sub-array antennas are designed, fabricated, and measured for a wideband array antennas in communications. They have a Right Handed Circular Polarization (RHCP) for TX from 7.9 to 8.4 GHz and Left Handed Circular Polarization (LHCP) for RX from 7.25 to 7.75 GHz. Two stacked patches are used for a wideband characteristics and cornertruncated square patches are adopted for a circular polarization. To enhance bandwidth characteristics of a circular polarization, 1$\times$2 sequential rotation arrays are applied. From the measured results, 1$\times$8 microstrip sub-array antennas have a good agreement with those of the simulation. Therefore the sub-array antennas are applicable to satellite communication antennas, active phased array antennas, and radiators in other antennas.

  • The radiation characteristics of a pin array patch antenna phased array are compared to those of a conventional patch antenna phased array. The performance of a pin array patch antenna phased array is much improved than that of a conventional patch antenna phased array because the mutual coupling between the adjacent pin array patch antennas is very small compared to that between the adjacent conventional patch antennas. The radiation characteristics of a pin array patch antenna phased array show the superior performance such as low variation of the gain of the main beam and the side lobe level for the variation of the direction of the main beam.

  • In this paper, the oscillator type active antenna used as an element of active phased array antenna is designed and fabricated using slot coupling. The radiating element and active circuit are fabricated on each layer respectively and coupled electromagnetically through slot on the ground plane. This structure can solve the problems such as narrow bandwidth of microstrip antenna, spurious radiation by active circuits, and spaces for integration of the feeding circuits which are caused by integrating antennas with oscillator circuits in the same layer. The active antenna in this paper, the oscillation frequency can be tuned linearly by controlling the drain bias voltage of FET. The frequency tuning range is between 12.37 GHz to 12.65 GHz when bias voltage is varied from 3V to 9V, thus frequency tuning bandwidth is 280 MHz (2.24%). The output power of antenna is uniform within 5dB over frequency tuning range. Therefore this active antenna can be used as an element of linear or planar active phased array antennas.
