Overlapping Decentralized Robust EA Control Design for an Active Suspension System of a Full Car Model (전차량의 능동 현가장치 제어를 위한 중복 분산형 견실 고유구조 지정 제어기 설계)

  • An overlapping decentralized robust EA(eigenstructure assignment) controller is designed for an active suspension system of a vehicle based on a full car model with 7-degree of freedom. Using overlapping decomposition, the full car model is decentralized by two half car models. For each half car model, an effective and disturbance suppressible controller can be obtained by assigning appropriately a left eigenstructure of the system. The performance of the proposed overlapping decentralized robust EA controller is compared with that of a conventional centralized EA controller through computer simulations.

Adaptive DC-link Voltage Control for Shunt Active Power Filter

  • This study analyzes the mathematical relationship between DC-link voltage and system parameters for shunt active power filters (APFs). Analysis and mathematical deduction are used to determine the required minimum DC-link voltage for APF. A novel adaptive DC-link voltage controller for the three-phase four-wire shunt APF is then proposed. In this controller, the DC-link voltage reference value will be maintained at the required minimum voltage level. Therefore, power consumption and switching loss will effectively decrease. The DC-link voltage can also adaptively yield different DC-link voltage levels based on different harmonic currents and grid voltage levels and thus avoid the effects of harmonic current and grid voltage fluctuation on compensation performance. Finally, representative simulation and experimental results in a three-phase four-wire center-split shunt APF are presented to verify the validity and effectiveness of the minimum DC-link voltage design and the proposed adaptive DC-link voltage controller.

  • This paper presents the active vibration control of flexible cantilever beam using piezoceramic actuators. The transfer function from the force input to the bending displacement was obtained via modal analysis results and piezoelectric constitutive equations. For the active vibration control piezoceramic actuators and sensors were used to construct a flexible smart cantilever beam. To further enhance the sensing and actuation properties of the piezoceramics, a typical interdigitated electrode pattern was fabricated. The PID controller was designed via various simulation and experiment trials. It was shown that the PID controller could suppress vibration of the beam effectively. Simulations and experiments verified good performances of the designed controller.

  • This study proposes a control method using a repetitive controller for a boost-type PFC rectifier with an APD circuit structure to improve the current distortion caused by DCM condition. Conventional proportional integral controllers have bandwidth limitations in DCM conditions. The performance improvement of the APD controller in the DCM region is verified through simulations and experiments on the compensation of harmonics by the repetitive controller.

Development of New Numerical Model and Controller of AFS System (AFS 시스템의 새로운 수학적 모델 및 제어기 개발)

  • A numerical model and a controller of Active Front wheel Steer (AFS) system are designed in this study. The AFS model consists of four sub models, and the AFS controller uses sliding mode control and PID control methods. To test this model and controller an Integrated Dynamics Control with Steering (IDCS) system is also designed. The IDCS system integrates an AFS system and an ARS (Active Rear wheel Steering) system. The AFS controller and IDCS controller are compared under several driving and road conditions. An 8 degree of freedom vehicle model is also employed to test the controllers. The results show that the model of AFS system shows good kinematic steering assistance function. Steering ratio varies depends on vehicle velocity between 12 and 24. Kinematic stabilization function also shows good performance because yaw rate of AFS vehicle tracks the reference yaw rate. IDCS shows improved responses compared to AFS because body side slip angle is also reduced. This result also proves that AFS system shows satisfactory result when it is integrated with another chassis system. On a split-m road, two controllers forced the vehicle to proceed straight ahead.

Simultaneous precision positioning and vibration suppression of reciprocating flexible manipulators

  • Simultaneous precision positioning and vibration suppression of a reciprocating flexible manipulator is investigated in this paper. The flexible manipulator is driven by a multifunctional active strut with fuzzy logic controllers. The multifunctional active strut is a combination of a motor assembly and a piezoelectric stack actuator to simultaneously provide precision positioning and wide frequency bandwidth vibration suppression capabilities. First, the multifunctional active strut and the flexible manipulator are introduced, and their dynamic models are derived. A control strategy is then proposed, which includes a position controller and a vibration controller to achieve simultaneous precision positioning and vibration suppression of the flexible manipulator. Next, fuzzy logic control approach is presented to design a fuzzy logic position controller and a fuzzy logic vibration controller. Finally, experiments are conducted for the fuzzy logic controllers and the experimental results are compared with those from a PID control scheme consisting of a PID position controller and a PID vibration control. The comparison indicates that the fuzzy logic controller can easily handle the non-linearity in the strut and provide higher position accuracy and better vibration reduction with less control power consumption.

  • This paper studies a semi-active suspension with ER damper controlled Fuzzy Net Controller designed GA(Genetic Algorithm). Apparent viscosity of ERF(Electro-Rheological Fluid) can be changed rapidly by applying electric field. Semi-active suspension for ground vehicles are expected to improve ride quality with less vibration. This paper deals with a two-degree -of-freedom suspension using the ER damper for a quarter vehicle system. In this paper, the GA is applied for generating Fuzzy Net Controllers. The GA designs the optimal structure and performance of Fuzzy Net Controller having hybrid structure. Computer simulation results show that the semi-active suspension with ER damper has good performances of ride quality.

  • Asymmetric cylinders are usually used as an actuator of active suspensions. The conventional optimal controller design does not include actuator dynamics as a state and force controller is needed to track the desired force. But the actuator is not ideal, so performance of an active suspension system is degraded. In this paper, we take account nonlinear actuator dynamics and obtain a linear model using a feedback linearization technique then apply optimal control method. Effectiveness of proposed method is demonstrated by numerical simulation of 1/4 car model.

  • This research is concerned with the multiple PPF and the modified LQG controller design for active vibration control of intelligent structures. The intelligent structure is defined as the structure equipped with smart actuators and sensors. Various control techniques aimed for the piezoceramic sensors and actuators have been proposed for the active vibration control of smart structures and some of them prove their effectiveness experimentally. In this paper, the multiple PPF controller and the modified LQG controller are developed and applied to the smart grid structure. The multiple PPF control and the modified LQG control can be classified as the classical and the modern control techniques. respectively. The experimental results show that both control techniques are effective in suppressing vibrations. Active Vibration Control of a Cantilever Beam using Electromagnetic Actuators

  • In this paper, an experiment for the active vibration control of a cantilever beam uses electromagnet as an actuator and uses a laser sensor to measure the position of the bending beam, constituting a non-contacting control system. A mathematical model of the overall system is derived to analytically design an appropriate controller. Dynamic equations of the electromagnetic actuator and the beam are combined to find the transfer function from the actuator to the sensor. The effectiveness of the obtained model is verified by various experiments and an improper PID controller is designed based on the obtained model. According to analysis, the coefficient of the derivative controller is the most important parameter for handling the performance and the stability margin of the control system. The experimental results of the active control system are compared with those of the open loop system.
